Apologies if there are similar threads.
I am looking for an 'easy way' to root my GALAXY Tab. I have used the android z4root application but it didn't successfully root my device and just hung for a while and did nothing.
I would like to know if there is another way to root the device. I want to have root so that I can slightly overclock the CPU, for now I am not majorly interested in custom ROMS as I know there still in early stages of development.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks peeps!
Same here. Z4root crashes on my device with latest firmware
I installed the tools with OCLF one click lag fix then ran z4root. You can also install busy box with Titanium before you get root.

Thanks, but is there no tutorial on XDA that explains in detail how you can go about rooting your device. I've not be able to find anything with the search tool...?
With z4root being so easy and available on so many devices, alot of the tutorials with adb push (or what ever) or how to manually root have disappeared with few exceptions. Now it seems people find work arounds to Get z4root to work as the alternative is more difficult. It took a very long time to root on my SGT. On my DroidX it took three times to work and root.
And to the poster above about OCLF. I did the Install ext2Tools. The OneClickLagFixv2.2+ became available. When I run the OCLF 2.2+ I get an error with code: Could not mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 onto /dbdata/rfsdata: mount: device or resource Busy.
I rooted with z4root first and then VZW Tab bootstraper by Koush CWM which converted to EXT4, then I ran OCLF EXT2Tools. Would this be an issue? Sorry I'm a bit new to SGT.
And I don't mean to hijack thread. Tia

Check the sticky in the tab dev section
Thankyou! Found it in the reference Bible. That is a very nice sticky and should keep me busy.

Got an AT&T flipout. Motoblur is horrible, otherwise a solid phone. I've had trouble finding a WORKING rooting guide on here. Has any one successfully flashed or rooted the flipout in the US?
I've been a G1 owner so I'm not a beginner over flashing/root access. If I could just get it rooted I can live with using titanium backup to uninstall all the **** apps.
Any help?
Theres a rooting guide on here, for att you dont have the unknown sources option in devtools so youll have to install the apk over adb but once i installed the app it worked like a charm for me

the first post has all I needed to root
and for adb its pretty easy to learn what you need using what google has out there, there might be some moto drivers I'm forgetting about, but if there are I probably found them on here, just explore a bit more

Hello,
I have same problem as you. I can not root my I9000 via Software like SuperRoor, OneClick Root ..etc
So I have root my phone via odin. It's very safe. Just follow the steps perfectly to root it without crack your mobile.
Let me know the android version of your mobile OR you can search in goole.com for that like "Root Galaxy S Odin 2.3.3"
THankyou all for adivce, hope it works
So I have a Samsung-SGH-I337 with Android ver 4.2.2 Baseband UCUAMF3 Kernal 3.4.0-812098
All was well prior to this update and my root but when I took this last update (4.2.2) I lost root and even using my "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper" I am not able to restore root.
As a side note I have TWO Superusers on my phone which I don't think I am supposed to have two am I? I have "SuperSU"(with yellow triangle and red "#" sign) and "Superuser"(with blue "#" icon as app icon.)
Basically I want my root back and clean up and have only ONE Superuser if that is the proper way. **AND NOT ERASE ANY DATA OR SETTINGS ON THE PHONE AS IT IS!***
I am sure this may be discussed here in many separate different threads but can anyone explain all processes in here simply?
Bump. If anyone can at least help me with ANY part of this issue I sure would appreciate it. I know I asked for kind of a lot but maybe the first step at least? Thank you guys/gals!
See if you can get rid of superuser. I'm not sure if the old version has the cleanup and removal like the new super su...
I have the I9505 and the easiest way to get root is flash cf-autoroot in ODIN. Not sure about yours.
On the same note I tend to flash all other updates on Mobile ODIN. This allows me to maintain root. Again though, you'd need to check if Mobile ODIN is compatible with your model..
Root using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577
Then use a file manager with root access and delete both su apps in /system/app. This will most likely make you lose root so you will have to root again but should only have 1 su app. No data will be lost

That link worked thank you! It took many tries till I figured out the correct order. You need to FIRST remove all Superuser's from the phone, restart phone, then use this method then restart then run Superuser and its all good =) :good:
The i337 is att or Canadian variant phone. We have our own forums for those and that root method would have been stickied at the top. So please just look over the att forum and read. There's no recovery possible for the MF3 build at the moment so please do not do something wrong.

Ah I see you first go to the the carrier section then index your phone that way. I did not know that. I just searched for my device in the main search bar. Thank you.
It is a USA version and all went well with the instructions above =) :cyclops:
