[Q] Full Backp Without Custom Recovery (Knox 0x0) - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to create a nandroid like backup that can be used to restore to a previous state? Something that's Knox safe.

For now, there is no way to revert, restore, or recover KNOX once tripped.

There is also no way to create a nandroid backup without custom recovery...
The only thing you can do is connect to Kies 3 and do an emergency firmware recovery BUT this will not work if you flash a rom that has the new bootloader if the stock recovery from your area has an older bootloader, you will get bootloops....
Also this will wipe your device completely...

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery?

So, I have a regular U8800 with Oxygen and ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6.
My question is: what does Nandroid backup? If I manage to null my IMEI, will a restore bring it back? And if I brick it in some way, but manage to get into Recovery, will it restore everything?
I want to install the Aurora ROM, but if I mess up something, I want to know if Recovery can keep me somewhat safe.
a nandroid backup is protecticting you from any soft brick. By that I mean any software faults. For example if you accidentally delete something from your system a restore will make your phone identical as before. If you flash aurora and you want to revert to your backup this will make your phone look identical as before. I don't think that it is protecting you from a null IMEI though. If you want to be sure and to backup your phone completely you can follow this guide:

Ok, I will do that as soon as I get home. Thanks!

[Q] Online Nandroid Backup and pre rooted ROMs

Well, I really appreciate the pre rooted ROMS for the i9505 and everything is working good, even OTA and official status. :good:
As flashing a custom recovery makes it unofficial (so no OTA), the only way I've found in order to make a full nandroid backup is using the Online Nandroid Backup app from the Google Play Store. I obtained a CWM backup file that I stored on my external SD card.
Now, in order to make a full nandroid restore of my previous backup (not only apps but the whole system), I have to flash again a custom recovery. Sadly, when doing this, I have to reflash again the stock recovery, to use Triangle Away and to make a full wipe for having official status and OTA back again :crying:
I wonder if there is another way to restore my full nandroid bakcup without using a custom recovery or without affecting the flash counter/official status ?
Thanks !

Can i restore backup from another phone?

I've got 2 sets of note 3, and both rooted and flashed with custom rom. I did a backup on one of them for the stock firmware before i flashed the custom rom. Question is, can i use the backup for the stock rom and restore it on the other note 3? Will there be any issues?
Thanks!

Restore just the System partition and the Boot partition. It should work.
Out of curiosity, why not use odin?

Will that unroot the phone and get it back to stock firmware (the backup is stock firmware)
what i was trying to do is to get the phone back to stock as much as possible.
When you said odin, you mean download a stock firmware and use odin to flash it?

Yes, it will restore everything to stock, exactly like the backup.
But, you should use odin. It will restore everything to stock.

Thanks! but can you tell me more? If i have that backup, what advantage does odin has over downloading a stock firmware?

Well, for one, odin will restore EVERYTHING to stock. Including the recovery.
Second, the recovery will probably reject the backup if it checks for MD5, you might have to disable it before restoring.
Third, it is more convenient.

I sadly had to go through that on my old note 2 (super slow connection in my country), well what i found out that to skip md5 check in TWRP, i had to backup my EFS (just to let twrp create its folders and settle up) then i moved the backup from another phone to the folder twrp just created, Restored system and /data with no problems
When the recovery check for MD5, open MD5 file on notepad, clear everything and save it. The recovery will not reject it. Trust me

Nandroid Backup and Knox?

I am currently on NE9, rerooted and have been having some issues. I want to flash back to stock in ODIN to NCG. However, I have been unable to find any information on whether I will be able to restore a Nandroid backup without tripping Knox. I have my backup saved on my computer, so my plan was to flash back to NCG stock, reroot, then install Busybox, Supersu, Safestrap, and Nandroid Manager. Then move backup from computer to SD card and restore via Safestrap. Is this the correct process to follow to restore an NCG Nandroid backup from NE9? More importantly, will restoring a Nandroid backup via Safestrap trip my knox counter to 0x1? Any information would be greatly apprreciated.

[Q] Odin or restore?

I have a n900w8 running cm11. I need to go back to stock.
I have a nandroid of my stock rom and was wondering if i can go back using my backup or if i need to use odin to downgrade?
Just want to make sure there are no issues with bootloaders etc if i restore my backup.
Thanks
Well as technically Nandroid backups are just a clone of your previous OS you should be able to flash it just fine, BUT you should not. Cause in doing that you will face several problems, multiple apps force closing would be one of them. So yes, just wipe the phone first, I mean a complete wipe, then flash a stock ROM of your choice via Odin, root, then restore apps with their data manually using Titanium. I mean the option in Titanium which says install the missing apks only, just hit on that, not the whole system wide restore, cause that will create problem too.
I don't know what model is that though, I have a N9005, so what I said might not even be applicable for your model.

Better to flash the latest stock firmware for your device via Odin.
and restore app(s) later.
