So, I have a regular U8800 with Oxygen and ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6.
My question is: what does Nandroid backup? If I manage to null my IMEI, will a restore bring it back? And if I brick it in some way, but manage to get into Recovery, will it restore everything?
I want to install the Aurora ROM, but if I mess up something, I want to know if Recovery can keep me somewhat safe.
a nandroid backup is protecticting you from any soft brick. By that I mean any software faults. For example if you accidentally delete something from your system a restore will make your phone identical as before. If you flash aurora and you want to revert to your backup this will make your phone look identical as before. I don't think that it is protecting you from a null IMEI though. If you want to be sure and to backup your phone completely you can follow this guide:

Ok, I will do that as soon as I get home. Thanks!

When you restore a nandroid do you restore the whole nandroid?
or do you only restore a part of it?
Doesnt the nandroid back up the bootloader or something like that & if i tried to restore it through nandroid wuudnt it brick it?
Since we can fastboot into CWM and make a back up, are we able to restore that backup with CWM with no issue. Has anyone acutally done this successfully and not had any major problems?
I just made a backup with CWM and would like to be able to restore it just in case I screw some thing while I am messing with the sytem.
I've been able to Backup/Restore with no problems. It works just the same as it does on any other model.
Yep i backed up and restored without issues.

Thanks guys, I know before with some other devices I was able to flash and backup up but beucase CWM wasn't completely ported for that device the actual restoring process was corrupted, so I didnt not want to find out the hard way. Good to know I can screw up and restore back to normal.
Hello guys!
I was updating from 4.4.4 to lollypop via OTA, then I realized that even if I run the stock ROM, I am still unlocked + root, meaning that the OTA won't run.
I did a complete nandroid backup via Wugs Nexus Toolkit, including data.
Then I wiped and flashed the new 5.0 via Nexus Toolkit, but when I tried to restore only the data it didn't work.
I decided to go back to 4.4.4. and do things properly, but now I'm not able to restore anything.
I am not bothered with the apps and stuff, but I had plenty of pictures which I forgot to backup, and I want to restore them. I even tried to access the nandroid backup files, but no success!
I was accustomed with the old CMW, where you had the .img files, but I got no clue on what to do here!
I add the picture of the nandroid backup folder on my PC ( I think the data files are splitted, but I cannot open them in any case, not even with 7zip).
The nandroid was executed via Nexus Toolkit, but I guess it has been done through TRWP.
Long story short:
1) how can I access the pictures inside the nandroid backup?
2) how can I restore a nandroid backup that keeps failing?

Maybe CWM does things differently, I don't know, but with TWRP, a Nandoid backup doesn't back up your SD card partition, so if you wiped everything, all your pics are gone. Sorry.
Yeah, I guess so.. Managed to recover something with DISK DIGGER (its an app, free on the store). Just wanted to write it here, so if anyone has the same issue can recover this way!
Ok, so I had to get a replacement Note 4 due to camera hardware issues. I made a TWRP backup of my original phone, now I want to restore things on my new phone. My question is what should I restore? The things I backed was everything I could:
Boot
Recovery
System
Data
Cache
EFS
Modem
Should I restore everything? I get the feeling that I shouldn't try to restore EFS for some reason, but I am not sure. Anything I definitely should not restore on the new device? Thanks
am i all set to just flash cm13 through recovery, or do i need to downgrade firmware and modem or something?

No need. Just make sure you backup your efs and radio because you need it if you want to go back to Touchwiz ROMs. Otherwise, you won't be able to call or use any sort of network options on your phone. EFS is super important. Make a backup, flash cm13. Whenever you wanna go back to stock, restore efs and radio with recovery.

what is entailed in backing up efs and radio? like, will a full nandroid cut it? or, a modem nandroid specifically?
EDIT: nevermind, searching is my friend.

Yes a full nandroid backup will backup your efs too, but have an individual backup on your phone and on your PC all the time. Believe me, you're gonna be very happy someday when you need it.
