I have a n900w8 running cm11. I need to go back to stock.
I have a nandroid of my stock rom and was wondering if i can go back using my backup or if i need to use odin to downgrade?
Just want to make sure there are no issues with bootloaders etc if i restore my backup.

Well as technically Nandroid backups are just a clone of your previous OS you should be able to flash it just fine, BUT you should not. Cause in doing that you will face several problems, multiple apps force closing would be one of them. So yes, just wipe the phone first, I mean a complete wipe, then flash a stock ROM of your choice via Odin, root, then restore apps with their data manually using Titanium. I mean the option in Titanium which says install the missing apks only, just hit on that, not the whole system wide restore, cause that will create problem too.
I don't know what model is that though, I have a N9005, so what I said might not even be applicable for your model.

Better to flash the latest stock firmware for your device via Odin.
and restore app(s) later.

Rooted my G2 in December 2010 but did not install any custom ROMs on it. I have SuperUser and ClockWork Mod on it. The OTA 2.3.3 update finally made its way to my phone, but does not update because of root.
I have seen too many threads explaining how to update the phone, leaving me confused Can somebody please explain how to or point me to a relevant thread.

There are pre-rooted versions posted in Development. Just download from there, put on your SD card, and flash from ROM Manager. You are also S-Off?
If you install an official ROM, you lose root. You don't want that.

bone stock pre-rooted OTA. Flash through CWM recovery. Doesn't replace Radio or anything. Its just a ROM.zip you can flash. Wipe data/factory reset before flashing of course.

One last question for the folks here, I performed a Titanium Pro Backup before upgrading the ROM.
Which one of the following restores should I perform now that I have upgraded to 2.3.4?
1. Restore missing apps with data
2. Restore all system data

4. Restore newer versions of user apps
5. Restore all apps with data

I usually do 5. Restore all apps with data when moving to a new ROM. (never restore system data unless you're re-flashing the same ROM). I usually select it, then scroll through the list and uncheck some apps that may cause issues. Things like Clocks, Browsers, etc. often overwrite system-level apps and can cause problems. YMMV.
Its in your best interest to perform a nandroid backup before doing a big restore of 100's of apps, as there is a chance that there may be some problems or incompatibilities that cause issues, and you want to be able to go back to a state before installing all those apps to troubleshoot without having to re-flash the entire ROM.
I've got 2 sets of note 3, and both rooted and flashed with custom rom. I did a backup on one of them for the stock firmware before i flashed the custom rom. Question is, can i use the backup for the stock rom and restore it on the other note 3? Will there be any issues?

Restore just the System partition and the Boot partition. It should work.

Will that unroot the phone and get it back to stock firmware (the backup is stock firmware)
what i was trying to do is to get the phone back to stock as much as possible.
When you said odin, you mean download a stock firmware and use odin to flash it?

Yes, it will restore everything to stock, exactly like the backup.
But, you should use odin. It will restore everything to stock.

Well, for one, odin will restore EVERYTHING to stock. Including the recovery.
Second, the recovery will probably reject the backup if it checks for MD5, you might have to disable it before restoring.
Third, it is more convenient.

if you want to restore the data it should be no problem. i already test it on all of my phone.

I sadly had to go through that on my old note 2 (super slow connection in my country), well what i found out that to skip md5 check in TWRP, i had to backup my EFS (just to let twrp create its folders and settle up) then i moved the backup from another phone to the folder twrp just created, Restored system and /data with no problems
When the recovery check for MD5, open MD5 file on notepad, clear everything and save it. The recovery will not reject it. Trust me :laugh:

I've installed a flashable zip via TWRP and I think it may be causing some problems. Due to lack of forsight, I did not make a backup.
So, how do I get everything back to stock so I can start from scratch and make a backup the right way? Can I use the factory reset option in TWRP?
The zip I flashed was supposed to unlock my wifi tethering, but it didn't work. I think it altered some system files.. If I use TWRP which boxes would i want checked?
Reflash stock rom of your device. It will be back to complete stock with no root what so ever

Factory reset does not help to revert back to stock.
Install Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Firmware Browser' to find and download stock firmware for your device.
Then boot into download mode and flash via Odin software.

Just checked it out on the Play store; looks like it redirects to sammobile for firmware downloads. I already tried to download my firmware via sammobile on the PC and it seems like the link is currently broken. However, I found it over on samsung-updates. Hopefully that's a reputable site as well.
My plan is to re-flash with stock, re-root, install TWRP, and then immediately make a backup. Is that a solid plan, or should I use titanium backup before/instead of TWRP backup?
Also, are the default options in TWRP backup good enough? Is Titanium backup redundant if I use TWRP?
A TWRP makes a full backup of the ROM, so its more useful if you mess up and its is highly recommended you make one.
Titanium Backup is useful if you wanna change ROMs, but keep your apps and app data

So for example, let's say that I want to install some mods on top of the stock firmware (like this one that supposedly unlocks my wifi tethering). But then I change my mind and I want to revert back to stock -- I can restore my TWRP backup to revert back to before the mods were installed (with default backup options checked?) and then use titanium backup to restore my apps and app data?

Yep you are correct! Restoring the TWRP backup will restore the ROM, data, apps etc that were there when you made the backup; you can, however, use TB to backup any apps or data and then restore them when you restore the TWRP backup

So, I just re-flashed the stock firmware and all of my apps are still there. The recovery mode went back to stock so I put TWRP back on. Then I rooted again and TWRP was gone again! What is going on..

In short, TWRP creates a backup of whole partition, e.g system partition - where Android OS is stored, userdata partition - where user data is stored (including all installed apps and their data, settings), etc...
While Titanium creates a backup of individual apps inside the userdata partition.
Hello.
I had my Note 3 with 4.3 firmware working properly but it's starting to give me problems so i guess it's time to upgrade to Kitkat with a fresh install.
I have the phone rooted and i have a lot of pictures, apps and tweaks i did (like un install bloatware...).
What's the best way to do a fresh update with latest rom and install back my pictured and apps?

If you have a phone with unlocked bootloader then just download the KitKat ROM of your choice (I recommend same region ROM as your living location, like if you are in UK download the UK KitKat ROM) from www.sammobile.com, and flash with Odin in desktop. Before doing that take a system wide backup with Titanium Backup Pro and send the backup to your PC. Then go to recovery, and wipe everything (master wipe) and then flash the KitKat ROM as I said at beginning.
The restore process via Titanium is different than taking backup though, you can't restore by using the option system wide restore, that will create problems, you will need to use restore missing applications with data option.

I have a Sprint Note 3 and I am having the dreaded "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped" problem.
I tried every single fix I found online. Even the stupid ones I knew wouldn't work. I finally caved and did a full wipe. Low and behold, on the very first setup screen the error message immediately popped up.
I am stock (whatever the latest version is) and rooted.
If factory reset doesn't work I don't know what else would work. That's usually the last recourse. Any suggestions? HELP!
Do I maybe need to re-flash the stock rom? If so, can someone please provide a link?

Yes, you need to re-flash stock ROM (search in updato). I'd also suggest you do a full DATA wipe with TWRP before and THEN flash stock ROM. Make sure you backup everything before anything.

Holy crap. I downloaded a stock ROM from Updato and my phone isn't bricked but I'm worse off now.
Somehow, nothing at all changed on my phone after I flashed the ROM. All my apps, data, screens, everything is still there. However, I lost root and I lost my custom recovery and I still have the problem I had before.
Two questions:
1) I still have a Nandroid backup of my rooted phone from before I flashed the stock ROM. Can I restore this Nandroid backup with the stock recovery?
2) If not I will install TWRP again. At that point can I just restore the rooted Nandroid and gain root again or do I have to root first and then restore the Nandroid?

It's a legit website but you need to wipe everything before flashing stock ROM. The order would have been: Boot into TWRP -> Wipe/Factory reset -> Format Data -> Reboot to download mode -> Flash stock
