[Q] noob questiom - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I am new here and I have a questiom .. right now im using 4.3 firmware on my i9500 .. before i flashed it i made a backup of my 4.2.2 firmware through CWM to my sd card .. I wonder will i be able to restore it? Or this is the same case as downgrading and it may harm my phone?
Note: my phone is rooted and i installed the cwm but i am scared to hit restore on cwm

You woun't damage your phone.
Your phone will be restored to the exactly same state as it was at backup time.
Another question is how to restore your backup correctly
Google for clockwokmode, cwm, NANDroid backup

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery?

So, I have a regular U8800 with Oxygen and ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6.
My question is: what does Nandroid backup? If I manage to null my IMEI, will a restore bring it back? And if I brick it in some way, but manage to get into Recovery, will it restore everything?
I want to install the Aurora ROM, but if I mess up something, I want to know if Recovery can keep me somewhat safe.
a nandroid backup is protecticting you from any soft brick. By that I mean any software faults. For example if you accidentally delete something from your system a restore will make your phone identical as before. If you flash aurora and you want to revert to your backup this will make your phone look identical as before. I don't think that it is protecting you from a null IMEI though. If you want to be sure and to backup your phone completely you can follow this guide:

Ok, I will do that as soon as I get home. Thanks!

[Q] Complete Backup

Hi Everyone,
I have an P5110 running stock Samsung 4.04 ICS firmware it's rooted and has cwm touch recovery installed and titanium backup pro (root) installed.
My question is this how do i verify a Nanodroid backup ?
I have read it checks the backups before a restore.
However, When running version 5.xx of CWM recovery it failed twice to restore data and since i couldn't i find a way to check the data before i restored it.
Data was overwritten, however cwm reported a fail to write to data, and sure enough no data had been written but /data had been formatted.
Is their a way to verify a backup before i choose to restore it ?
i am now using ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.1.0
thanks

[Q] Online Nandroid Backup and pre rooted ROMs

Well, I really appreciate the pre rooted ROMS for the i9505 and everything is working good, even OTA and official status. :good:
As flashing a custom recovery makes it unofficial (so no OTA), the only way I've found in order to make a full nandroid backup is using the Online Nandroid Backup app from the Google Play Store. I obtained a CWM backup file that I stored on my external SD card.
Now, in order to make a full nandroid restore of my previous backup (not only apps but the whole system), I have to flash again a custom recovery. Sadly, when doing this, I have to reflash again the stock recovery, to use Triangle Away and to make a full wipe for having official status and OTA back again :crying:
I wonder if there is another way to restore my full nandroid bakcup without using a custom recovery or without affecting the flash counter/official status ?
Thanks !

Quick question about rooting.

Hey all,
I just ordered an G2 and when it arrives I want to install CM10.2. I have a quick question. When installing a new rom will it delete any backups that I made previously? If so, is there a way for me to store the backup of my stock LG rom/ui on my PC for safe keeping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can make a nandroid backup which you can store on your phone's SD card or on your computer. This requires a custom recovery, however, thus meaning that you will have backup of a stock, rooted device with custom recovery.
Remember to back up your EFS partition too.
You can download your stock (and unrooted with stock recovery) .kdz here
EDIT: You can install TWRP without root Sorry for misleading informations!

Just replace YOUR IMEI with your actual IMEI

[Q] Nandroid Error backup and restore

Device: Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M)
Android:5.0.1
Rooted
cwm custom recovery touch version.
When I do a Nandroid backup it seems to do successfully but I see errors in the log file.
And when I restore using the same backup after it finishes restore process, all the services stop working (example: google.app ....)
I attach screenshots and log file for backup process.
Please explain why this is happening and how to fix it.
Thanks
Sam

As lennyz & Reaper suggested I switched to twrp, both backup and restore are working smoothly.
Thanks for help.
CWM isn't updated anymore. So you should either swith to TWRP or Philz (thought Philz isn't updated anymore either but it still works).
Maybe that could fix it. Also make sure you have plenty of space left when you make a nandroid. Something like 5gb when you are on TW rom.
Use PhilZ, as it is based on CMW, so it should work with your backups. If you don't care about the backups anymore then go with TWRP. Haven't had any problems with TWRP so far.
