I like to set my email notifications to silent. I upgraded to 4.3 today and now I'm getting a notification sound when I receive an email. I've looked in the sound menu in the phones settings and the gmail menu. Where's it at?

Nevermind, found it. Had to click on the email address in gmail settings to edit the individual email account settings.

Is there anyway to add a alert to other events not listed in the alerts menu.
At the moment there is no alert for when pop3 mail arrives.
TIA
Hi,
Try: control panel, personal tab, sounds and notifications, notifications, then click the dropdown box and look for "Messaging: New e-mail message" then choose your sound, let me no how u get on!
tried that already...no joy :-(
When I get an email in Gmail on the Xperia X10, there is a quick, "New Email" that flashes in the menu bar. After that there is nothing. Why is there no steady email icon on the menu bar? Is this a 1.6 deal? I've been using 2.1, till yesterday.
I've checked off "Notify In Status Bar When Message Arrives" in Gmail settings.
go to the email app and set your notifications and how often it checks for email. not the gmail app. the email app.
No. That doesn't do anything.
Hi...I created a ringtone and added it to a folder called Notifications. I found this out from another site. However, the ringtone fails to associate itself with emails - - it rings when I plug my phone into a USB for example. This is a normal "notification" and not what I want. I did find a notification folder under media>audio>notifications. When I moved my ringtones to that folder they showed up under my ringtone options. However, the ringtone does not trigger when I get an email. Still playing around with it. I've lost the notification for emails which is probably due to something I've done editing folders on the phone...

I spoke to Sony Ericsson tech support about this and they draw a blank. I called Rogers Wireless, which offers the phone and they don't know. Any Android phone I've ever used, and I've used several, has a Gmail icon in the notification bar when you have mail in the inbox. Not this phone.
Hey guys, i don't like have one notification noise for ALL my notifications. now i can't tell the difference between emails, sms etc. i looked under settings but it only allows you to set one sound over all. is there any way to get individual sounds for individual events?
Each one of those have a settings tab. You can change them idependently. IE: Open Messages and go to settings, Notifications and change it. Same with gmail and exchange.
Just picked up the G2 yesterday and I love it for the most part. Hoping some of you can help me on one thing.
I generally keep my phone on vibrate mode and want notifications for text messages, calendar reminders, etc... but not when I receive a new email. I've checked my Gmail settings, and vibration is turned off there. However, my phone still vibrates for every email.
I've gone through every general setting I can, but I can't seem to figure out how to turn this off. Anyone have an answer?
it's not under the general settings, its under the account settings.

Gmail account settings? If so i already have those settings set correctly. If not which settings are you referring to?
Anybody else? I'd really like to solve this issue.

I went to accounts under settings and removed my gmail from the Email accounts. There is no reason to have gmail there when you can just use the gmail app... kinda annoying. Then you can just have gmail give you notifications when you get a gmail.. like it should be?
I know this thread is a bit old, but I still can't figure out how to stop Gmail from vibrating every time I get an email. Has anyone figured this quirk out?

If you are using the Gmail App then go to the gmail app settings > click your email> then "Inbox sound & vibrate" > uncheck vibrate
That's just it though, it still vibrates even when vibrate is not checked.
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
Anyone figure this out? I keep my phone on vibrate also and gmail vibrates every time even though it's unchecked.
Did you ever figure this out? I am also being affected by this problem.
Hi guys, yes I managed to make the incredible annoying vibrating to stop each time I get a new e-mail or message (sms).
Go to the Message-app - in the right corner (on the phone) press Menue - Settings - Turn off "Vibrate".
Now you should get no vibrations at all when receiving sms/mms or email (I have a Sony Xperia P).
this worked for me

Open gmail icon then in menu mode, look for settings under label settings. Not sure why it's there but it is. Open label settings and choose the device notifications
Sound, and under sound choices choose Silent. It's at the top of my lg choices. I can't think why they combined text and email. Who in their right mind want a d
ing every time an email comes in!??
Strange problem. Don't seem to get Gmail push and/or notifications to work when I receive e-mail. The checker is clearly checked in the gmail settings (though the sound is not). But no notifications are visible in the notification bar when I receive new e-mail.
Anyone with the same problem?
