Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but I have checked back 12 pages and have not found anything.
I have rooted and installed recovery on my N9005 but seem to have a problem with most Roms I have tried.....
I do a full wipe then try to install a ROM and I either get my phone rebooting back to recovery, a message saying that there has been an abnormal factory reset and to put my details into the Samsung account which I have not done yet to get past. On the one ROM that did boot up fine' the WiFi button would not come on.
Do I have to put in my details on the Roms that ask to get by?
Cheers.

Best thing is sign up for a Samsung account and when it asks you just sign in that should be it
I will try that.
Thanks.
I signed up for a Samsung account online but after I enter details on phone I get the message - processing failed. I can't get any further?

I made a backup with stock when I first rooted, I have just done what you said and the new ROM has upgraded.
Do you think I would be able to do a full wipe now that I have registered my account on this phone?
Thanks

hi there
ive been reading the last few days, and decided to flash a custom rom. i had wanted to do CM 7 nightlies. but i had trouble flashing clockwork recovery 3.x.x.x for some reason, i decided to go with CM 6.1.2 RC 2, so that i didnt have to flash it and could just install Clockwork Recovery 2.xxx via ROM manager.
Ok, so i did the nandroid backup. Wiped. Installed the CM 6.1.2. Then my phone wouldn't turn on... i thought i had bricked it. But i took out my battery, sim card, and SD card and tried again and it turned on. I was super relieved.
Anyway, now on CM 6.1.2, im having a few issues/bugs.
1) how do i restore all my old info? Contacts/apps all that stuff? Im not sure how to bring it all back.
2) My home button doesn't work. I have to keep using the back button if i want to get anywhere.
Thanks to the community for helping me achieve this! Just a few more questions though, thanks !!

Once you sign back into your google account, your contacts should flood back in...apps can be reinstalled via the market (if you flashed the google apps package)
Try rebooting, your home button may work after that
tried to add my old google account and it said 'unable to open connection to server'
?
and i rebooted and that didnt work, for the home screen. i went back and wiped everything again and installed CM 6.1.2 again and the home button still doesnt work.
very aggravating.

just a question. If you wipe and flash Sense back to the phone does the home button work?
im not sure, do i just do a factory reset or something?
or restore from the recovery reboot?
also, market place is not on the phone?

Then it sounds like you did not flash the G/AAPS as well. If you only flashed CM6.1.2RC2 you will not have ANY Google Applications. G/Mail, G/Talk, Maps, market. all those will be missing.
just did the restore -
home button works, everythings just like i left it.
its an RC so im unsure of it being a bug? Not really sure what else it could be.
maybe an earlier build? i dunno

I would just upgrade to clockwork 3 and flash CM7 Build 23, everything (with the exception of qik) works here and its gingerbread!

how else should i have done it?
would there be any downside to just using applanet?

UGH, thats what i tried initially, but i was having trouble flashing clockwork recovery 3.xxx to my phone (keep in mind im a super noob)
i saw that link someone posted for people that are having trouble, where you push the flash_image file to your phone.
it said put the flash_image file (and yeah, i unzipped it and used the file not the .zip) in the root of your SD card.
and im not quite sure where that is (i know i know, im learning dont laugh!)

ON CM6.1.2RC2 /which is an Android 2.2 ROM/ yes it will install pre signing it..... you can either sign in at the beginning to auto download the applications or you can skip it and add it via, Accounts & Sync to skip the auto downloading... Only Gingerbread currently installs G/APPS post signing in.
If they are having a problem connecting to the Wi-Fi you should still get all the applications it will just not allow you to do anything.

much much much thanks to this guy
he walked me through flashing clockwork recovery 3.0.0.5 to my phone. i had a few issues with renaming the clockwork recovery file a .img, and where to put files and such, and he helped me through all that.
i was able to do it successfully and then push CM 7 nightly 23 to my phone, and am running it perfect
so its my first day doing this and ive pushed CM 6.1.2 RC2 to my phone, and now CM 7. it was a great day in learning for me.
one problem is, i logged in to my google account, and it says everything is sync'd and im getting emails and such - but my contacts still haven't transfered. no biggy though, i can put them on again.
question - in the future is there a way that i can make a backup of all my apps, and all my data and that stuff, so that if i put another nightly over it, or switch to another build i can keep all that stuff?

Buy Titanium Backup from the market! It's the best $5 you'll spend. You can backup your existing apps with the data. You can also freeze bloatware if there are any on the phone. I doubt you'll need it as CM7 is very very slim already
EDIT: Make sure when you reinstall your contacts, you sync it with google. Next time you do a clean wipe, you can sign in and they will apprear. On the nightlies, you can just flash the new builds over the old ones. I do a clean wipe every 3 builds to keep it clean. You can also backup you ADW or LPP settings so it will be easy for you to restore on a new wipe. Hope this helps!
So, I have a backup of my rom from another device that I installed. What I need to do is change the sync account, but it says I can not remove it. Fine, so I try to add another and it says google can not establish a reliable connection.
If I factory reset the device, it will sit at the boot logo and keep crashing until I restore from backup.
If i install a new rom, only one actually worked but it seemed to be an older one (Different icons, missing the Hubs)
What can I do? I already completely bricked one device trying to get this fixed. I really gotta get this going, how can I either wipe it all out completely so I can set it up new again, or find the stock USA/Canada Rom?
Thanks!!
Ps, here is the thread I already have where i speak about bricking my other phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175098
Dude please stop whatever you're doing. You seems to be getting yourself in a mess.
First do some reading on how to flash with Odin and then flash a stock firmware to the device and do a cache wipe and factory reset in the recovery menu. When you boot into the device do a hard reset and then stop messing with the device.

The thing is, if i do a factory reset, it will not boot for some weird reason :/
Thats all I am trying to do, I just need to get back to stock then i'm sitting there. The only thing that actually seems to work is the backup I have on it right now, but I can not reset any of the settings to actually be able to start using the thing
this is the second one you've messed up? use one of the other 2 but don't try to do a restore just download all your apps manually. and send me one of the messed up ones.

I have a Jig on the way, ill see how that goes
Well I would also like to change the sync account, which it will not let me ://
I just reflashed like 8 times in the last hour trying different roms, none are working

There is a bug when you wipe, which stops boot...
Affects older stock roms.
Newer ones should be OK, as should custom ROMs

The only thing different is it by default has some widgets added, and the Messaging app has a different icon. All the hubs are also intact

All seems to be working now. Woo whoo!
I have 4 And 2 of the 10.1 tabs
I am working closely with Samsung on one of their new marketing projects, which is why I get all of these
So, factory resetting this image screws up too.
But its okay, as I got a blank backup now with no accounts. So I'm all set
Also, just got the email confirmation that my jig shipped out.
You should probably donate one of the "b0rk3n" device to a dev.

Best bet is a complete reset

But my phone isn't running on the Stock Rom, would a hard reset mess the phone up? I'm on the MIUI Rom
turn the phone off, or pull out the battery. start the phone into recovery, wipe data and cache, and then flash a new rom on it. That'll take care of the problem.

If your dad's phone already back-up, you could reboot on recovery, mound storage to place ROM on SD card, and then full wipe & flash the ROM.

I was hoping for the email option too, but I just remembered that right after I flashed the ROM, I gave the phone to him without setting up Gmail or anything, he doesn't use those stuff at all. He only makes and receives phone calls, not even text. I did set up a Gmail account on the stock rom before I flashed it though, would that still work? And after trying a few times, the phone will say you've tried over 30 times, please wait 30 seconds before you try again. And how do I boot into recovery ? I still have the ROM file on my SD card, can I reflash the same Rom again ?

Did you sync contact list on stock ROM to Gmail? If yes, you can restore the contact list. To boot into recovery, you pull out the battery in 5s, place on battery again, push power + volume down at the same time, you can boot into recovery.
I think you need to full wipe before reflash the same ROM.
No, I didnt sync contact, my dad was gonna use the phone, not me. So I left everything as it is except for the email account since I was prompted to enter it when I was trying out Market Place. So let me make this clear before I decide to venture on:
This is the best option as of now.
1. Boot into recovery
2. Do a full wipe, Data and Cache
3. Reflash the same ROM again
Right? Calling T Mobile wont help and doing a Hard Reset isn't possible because I'm not on Stock rom.
Thank you for all of you inputs and knowledge.
If you just wipe data, you do NOT have to reflash the ROM since everything is still in /system. Wipe data = factory reset to the ROM your phone has.
Thanks Gazalan, data wipe did indeed remove the lock screen code. Thanks for everybody's reply. Didnt have to reflash the ROm again

If you had USB Debugging on, you could also adb shell into the phone and remove a file that disabled the lockscreen code.

Why not flash a new stock rom onto it? That way you start truly fresh. Do a search for Flashtool or something like that or you could root and flash a custom rom onto your phone, it's simple and you will benefit alot from it!
first, I am sorry about your sister..
second, try install xrecovery or clockworkmod recovery
then, you may do factory reset by them

Yes a new rom should fix the problem!!
Or a reboot will fix the problem too!!
Thanks for the feedback.

Ok did you follow everything properly??
Ok so try and go into recovery!!
Hold home button while booting and you should
see a list of options. use the volume key to find your way.
Go to wipe cache and click yes.
then go to wipe data and click yes.
then go to advance and wipe dalvik cache and click yes.
go back using power button and reboot!!!
That shuld solve the problem!!!
