[Q] Would a SDcard cause lag/slowness? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

been browsing the BBS threads and saw that the SDcard can cause wakelocks...
I just bought a 64GB.. all ready to use it with my Note 3
just wondering if the SDCard will really cause such issues? or is it due to corrupted files, etc

I got my class 10 / 64 GB SanDisk
I found nothing of lag just only while restarting or turning off the phone it takes longer time as it mount the exsdcard... Coz i try to remove the sd and restart/turning off the phone it was fast
Sent from my SM-N900 using Tapatalk

nothing boot from ext-memory and nothing run from it
SO lags are not because of ext-memory unless u see delay when loading photo, movie & etc that stored in ext-card.
:good:

thanks! I can finally use my SDcard to do a Titanium Backup of apps before cleaning the bloat off my phone (all the Samsung Cloud sync bloat)

[Q] Blank/Black Screen

Ok so here's the problem...Whenever I try to transfer my music or any other medias from my MediaGo Library to my X10i, the whole system's speed drops signifcantly...After dismounting, I wait for it to autolock...And when I unlock it just goes to a Blank/Black Screen...Then from there on, nothing will happen and just wait for it to drain the battery...I've tried repairing it via PC Companion countless times but still nothing happens...I have to dismount the SD card just to return to normal...So does that mean that transfering/storing medias in my x10 is useless and cannot use it for multimedia purposes??
Never seen such an issue before here in xda try flashing stock 2.1.435 rom and if that doesnt help well im afraid that i wont be able to help you, its surely not an physical issue tho.

are you using any rom?
Nope just the official 2.1 update...Tried rooting it via SuperOneClick to have access to the speed of the SD but the rooting didn't work...I tried transferring 354 songs, 700MB worth of videos and 400mb worth of pictures and wait for it to load for 6 hours and it works..But when I add beyond 354 songs, the problem returns even if I wait for it for more than 6 hours...
Your using the 3d gallery correct?
Try get quickpic it's much faster.
Does the same thing happen when transferring files by dragging and dropping to the sd card?
You sure about the capacity of your sd card? I've bought a few fake 1s from ebay that when they get past 2gb full (of 32gb) it starts to cause problems. Search for fake flash/ fake sd cards to find tools to test.

Have a 8gb SD card and with all the 354 songs, 700mb videos, 400mb photos, it would easily consume 4gb worth of space but you have to wait 6 hours though for the phone to return back to normal...But when I add more songs, thats where the problem starts...I tried also deleting all the videos and photos and replace them with songs and add beyond 354 but thats where the problem occurs...
I had the same issue with another phnoe. Your SD card might be dmaged.. try to use another one. there are a lot of softwares to make a low level format an repair. hope it helps.. And try to clean the Micro SD pins with a rubber or isopropilic alcohol
Good luck

Constant Reboots

need your advice on this, I've just unbox my Galaxy Note few days ago, it keeps rebooting itself, one time I was copying data from the SD card to the other storage in the phone suddenly it reboots. I've had unknown reboots. Now using XXLA4 and seems doesnt solve the issue. Any ideas or suggestions?
Make sure all your applications are licated on internal SD

Have you tried changing sd cards?

yep they are all on my internal SD ... any ideas> Thanks
1 Does it happen after you load your applications or on a clean Rom as well? Could be a app that's causing it.
2 the xla 4 install could have been a bad flash. Did you check the MD 5?

Do one thing just clear your dalvik cache.. i was facing same thing...
so now at the moment my note is in constant reboot mode, don't know if I should let it, I haven't root my devices yet I tried every method available on this homepage but doesnt seem to work at all. I tried installing some games on my note this morning, it failed to download and ever since that it reboots all the time. Any suggestion?
Edit: Now it stops rebooting when I plugged in the USB charger but it says the temperature of the battery is too low or too high and it doesn't charged

welcome to the club, i am in the same boat.
my phone works fine all times without sd card but sometimes goes crazy (restaring / freezing constantly for 7-8h non stop!) with sd card in situ.
some of my apps are on internal 1.9gb memory, some on internal 11gb memory, some on external card. trying to figure out how to force on stock unrooted device to force all apps to internal memory (1.9gb or 11gb) to prevent these issues. or will try new card. my old card works fine on my htc desire. dont know if the htc folders present on sd card are causing soem issues
have tried with apps2sd pro and stock app mnager to move apps to internal 11gb memory. but the phone has a mind of its own and some stay on 1.9gb internal memory some go to 11gb internal memory and some go to external sd card and i cant seem to force moveable apps to internal 11gb memory only instead of sd card as mentioned in the other concurrent thread today on this topic.
Hi,
I also had similar problem like this. It appears that the Android Program at times cannot seem to access the Ext SD card program/s installed and that will cause a reboot and repeated so.
I really do not why this is happening? It will seem to work fine ant reboot when the Ext SD is removed - but those programs installed in the Ext. SD will no longer be accessible.
There is a hidden folder in the Ext. SD ".android_secure" which contain all the programs transferred to that Ext. SD. If you empty this folder of it programs by transferring them to your PC and reinsert the Ext. SD card, it will function normally and you can access your file like photos, videos, music, and ebooks. But you will not be able to access your programs in the Ext. SD.
I had tried un-installing the apps in the Ext SD and re-installing them into Phone memory it will work but it will not transfer to Int. SD (the 11 GB) and keep informing me there is no Ext SD. This of course will eat up all the 1.9 GB of the Phone memory, which is not what I had wanted. Although I still have a lot of memory in the Int. SD (about 8 GB) it will not transfer there, why I am not sure.
Can some of the Android expert please look into this problem and advise. Thank you.

Hi,
How do you make sure all the Apps are located in the Internal SD?
I have an Ext SD and some apps are transferred there. I cannot transfer these apps into the Int SD.
I uninstalled the apps and reinstall them without the Ext SD and then try to transfer to Int SD. It will not transfer and a message "you do not have an Ext SD card"
Will appreciate any assistance. Thank you.
I don't have any apps installed on the internal SD nor external SD, I notice this that everytime an app failed to complete (eg loading) it goes to looping reboots. The last one I was playing some game something called mission, cannot remember the game name, it was loading all the time then I decided to switch it off and turn it on again. It goes constant reboot. I need a good phone which doesn't rebooot all the time ...

Its seems like you had an issue with leakage current on cpu. Its caused the battery drain fast and heat up. The only solution is to change the main board. Well, this is use to happen on htc phone. Not sure on sammy phone

yeah my phone also used to reboot after some time... the problem i found was the installation of an app called es file explorer... i disabled the app and it works flawlessly...so some of the app on your phone might be causing you the problem...

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 Memory Card Issue

I am using a 16 GB micro sd SANDISK ULTRA Class 6.
Since I have been Using it there are various problems of unsupported Memory card.
Phone Lags while Opening the gallery, and crashes it.
Also while Playing Music, player stops playing and says player cannot play this song.
My data in the sd card has also been corrupted, some of my movies and videos have been corrupted and it does not appear in the gallery or the my files.
When I Looked into the Memory Card, it had replaced many of the corrupted folders with an initial "μ" such as μusic, μideos.
Basically my phone ceases to read my Memory Card and crashes.
I did Format the Memory card as well as RESET the Phone but all in vain.
If anyone could suggest Me anything about it any home remedy, I'll be Grateful.
Thanks.
I have the same problem

I have a very odd thing happening to do with my 32GB SD card from GSkill - recovery keeps having issues with /cache - where it got to the point that I couldn't backup or restore anything without reboots..
Have tried reformatting it into Fat, Fat32, and exFat and it doesn't make a sh*t of difference which format its in, it Still does it - its only been doing it for the last week..
Sadly sandisk have admitted that some of their cards in the markets are from a bad batch and will fail in a shorter than normal time.

SD Card Help

Hi guys,
I need your help becasue this looks very weird to me. This is my situation: I have a I-9500 (Stock ROM 4.3, no root) with Kingston SD Card 16 GB Class 4. On the SD I keep only my music in one folder, nothing else. Also because I have a lot of music, more than 14 GB, the card is almost full. Sometimes the back of the phone where the SD slot is, becomes to warm up a lot and battery starts to drain very fast. It has happened to me in different situations (and also prior to update to 4.3): once I was indeed listening to music, so using the card, but another time I was taking photos and watching a video saved on the phone. Like I said, I save everything (ecxept music) on the phone.
To solve, I have to either take the card out or format it in the phone. Once I do either of them, the phone cools off and battery drain goes back to normal. Once it even went into a boot loop, before I realized I had to take the card out.
We have 3 options:
1. it's the phone
2. it is something in my music folder (I have photos of the cover albums, which shows up in Gallery... could this be the cause?)
2. it is the SD card brand, capacity, class... I read on many forums about problems with certain brands, even though, if I recall correctly, it affected mostly 64 GB cards...
I want to add I have a Note I-5100 with a Sandisk SD 32GB Class 4 and never had any problem, I want to swap the two, but I know that even if something happens, it will not be immediate and I prefer to have the big one in the note. If I knew changing SD would solve it, I would go for it immediately, but I would like to know what you think first. I have also read Samsung SD cards perform better in Samsung phones. Is this true?
Thank you very much for your help!
I just noticed that many album folders have a file named n7p_art, which is created by the music software (I use stock Samsung Music Player). could this be the cause?

Lag, freezes, SD issues(doze?) Idk

Hello, received my T-Mobile S7 Edge yesterday and while I love this phone is anyone else experiencing a lot of lag and freezes randomly?
Also not sure of it's Doze, but if I am transferring a lot of files to my internal memory or sdcard, the phone will time out and disconnect from my PC. If I and transferring to my sdcard i see a notification right when it happens like if I just inserted the sdcard for the first time.
To add to that, that SD card notification pops up all the time, doesn't make any sense.
Maybe I just need to reset it and start fresh. Idk
Can't edit, but the disconnect also happens when the screen times out, updating apps also stops when the screen times out.
My phone is having similar issues as well. What I did to fix the problem was . I went into recovery and deleted the cache. reseated my memory card an added a little bit of tape . Power cycled the phone. Then when it to recovery and deleted the couch again. My phone has been lag free every since.
Also even the benchmarks don't mean whole lot
I ran antutu benchmark before and after the process and noticed a huge difference in score

The problem ended up being my microsd card. Not sure if the microsd card was damaged without my knowledge or if Samsung devices don't play well with Sandisk cards. Eitherway I was able to get another card and don't have the issue anymore.
i got the new sandisk 200gb i have no problems at all.
