Hey guys. I have been reading reviews on the phone, and it seems like the battery is terrible along with the speakerphone, the phone overheats, and it's way underpowered due to thermal throttling. The battery apparently is on par with the GSM Galaxy Nexus, and so far my experience the the CDMA Galaxy Nexus has been terrible, so I can only assume that this will be just as bad. The only reason I am switching off of Verizon and ditching my Galaxy Nexus CDMA is because of the battery. I promised myself that my next phone would have incredible battery life, and it seems like this device is unable to deliver. What do you guys think? I know many of you in this thread are extremely excited about receiving your devices but if you could try and keep your bias out of the way that would be extremely beneficial. I was considering a Note II. I heard the battery life on that device is incredible. FYI I will be switching to AT&T.

How do you plan on carrying the phone? For the price, N4 trumps all, battery appears better than GNex, CDMA Nexus sucks because Verizon controls updates instead of Google, N4 on GSM should be a better experience, processor is good enough, and on cold days a little extra warmth generated from your phone goes a long way.
I don't think we would have solid data on battery until people have used the phone for a few days but from what I can see so far it's pretty average. If your primary need is a huge battery life then this isn't really the phone for you. Get a phone with a removable battery and replace the battery with a high capacity one instead.
Having said that, it is a very good phone so far, but if it's not for you then you might want to look at something else.

Are you getting rid of your Note II for the Nexus? Despite the much more powerful processor, the Nexus will get about the same performance as the Note II thanks to throttling.

The batteries are not on the same playing field, you have a 2,100 Mil battery in the quad-core Nexus 4 vs. a 3,100 Mil battery in the Galaxy Note II. So of course if you are looking for better battery life the Note II trumps the Nexus hands down but the Note is a pretty big phone and is no where near pocketable. The Nexus 4 has a large screen and has a must smaller build without bloatware and Touchwiz to slow down the system. So if it comes down to just battery life then YES 100% to the note but if you are looking for an overall pure google experience with quick software releases then just keep your order for the Nexus.
If battery life is your primary concern, why not pick up one of the new moto phones. That way you get very good battery life and you get to keep your lte.

Get a Razr HD Maxx I think. Or, get the nexus but get an external battery 'pack.' They come is a variety of sizes and for a 5600 mah battery it's like $25 to give you some idea.
Sounds like the RAZR MAXX HD is for you.
But as to your other concerns, lots of people did say positive things about the speaker, battery, WiFi/cell signal, and performance outside of benchmarks.
As for thermal throttling, there's a good chance Google will patch it or we will hack it with custom kernels, I remember being able to change the throttle on my Galaxy Nexus.
Cancel it... The more who cancel the better chance I get at getting mine..

I checked signal strength in store. I compared my sg4 to note3 and lg g2. The note 3 was a stable 108db every now and then it fell to 106db. My sg4 106db to 105db. The lg g2 did 101db.
I want the note 3 but I cant purchase until after an update proves it software related not hardware related

One phone shows -111 db other shows -106 db side by side consistently. My t mobile on att shows less signal compared to wife's att note 3. Is mine faulty? If don't know , just observation.

maybe its a frequency thing if not then maybe one is fault or that side by side the few inches make a big difference

Another way of wording that is the closer to ZERO the better the signal.
Anyways I've found the Note 3 to be pretty bad... Seems like this phone has a pretty weak antenna in it...

Perhaps as bad as the S4? Well for me, yes. Roll on 5.7 inch iPhone LOLzzz. Once I went droid I cannot go back!
I am still not deciding what to get between S4 and Note 3.
Is the +150$ of the note 3 + huge size outweigh for the advantages it has over S4?
Will the lags of s4 be ironed out by TW 4.3 and match note 3 smoothness?
What are the differences and advantages of both phones?
1. 3GB RAM, 4.3 out of the box, 4K video recording (Snapdragon), S Pen.
2. There's still some bugs that can be easily ironed out with a software upgrade. But as I said just now, if TW wants more memory, it can get more from the Note 3 as it has 1.5x that amount on the S4.
3. Bigger screen -> Better MWC functions. Basically you get all S4 features and more add-ons with the S Pen and some spec bumps.

Hmm, well I would do it if I were you.
Why? S4 is nearly at the end of its life cycle and S5 would be released in a couple of months. The Note 3 just came out so it still has one year life span, soooo I'd also take that into account.
Before I wondered why ppl bought the Note, but once I went Note, I never looked back.
Plus the added USB3.0 and all the added new functions make the Note 3 a worthy phone.
If it's just adding 200$, sure. But if you're gonna shell out outright pricing then maybe think twice.
This isn't like the iPhone 5 and 5s, there are actual changes to most every aspect of the phone, with the design, software, and hardware, making it a worthy upgrade.

Yeah of course, but in the product life cycle, not the development life cycle. If you decide to sell your s4 after the s5 is released, you will get less money than getting rid of it before the s5 comes out. So I was saying, if he sells it now he can get the Note 3 for 200 more, rather than selling it later and adding around 300-400 for the Note 3 instead.

I will definitely go for Note 3. S4 is not really good due to it internal 2GB RAM is not that really enough for all new bundle features did by Samsung.
Beside this, Note 3 (N9005 edition) is better than S4 of:
3GB RAM - enough for all new Samsung features.
S800 instead of S600, this is really something difference in Snapdragon, S600 is not that big different compare with last year S4 Pro, but S800 is different case.
4K Video record and playback support.
The best AMOLED screen so far, it is even better than S4, thanks to it bright display.
More future proof in data access, the LTE is actually LTE-A, but currently everywhere only utilize LTE except Korea.
i skipped S4 to get Note 3 because of all the features listed, plus then some
Note 3 is actually ultra thin, and light weight compared to previous Galaxy line phones
if you put the Note 3 in your front Shirt pocket, your Shirt doesn't sag down to the side due the weight.
my old Note 1 will sag down the Shirt horribly.
So you can't really tell the difference between a Note 3 vs S4 unless you look for the Spen
What about the camera issue in low light?
S4 doesn't have this issue.
Also the Note 3 size can be a problem if you want to:
-Take a photo one handed.
-Put a cover (it will be even bigger and heavier)
-Put your phone in your sports pants or shorts (will fit but will look horrible)
-The size of this thing when you put it on your ear...
I agree the extra brightness of the Note 3 screen is a big plus here for sunlight visibility.
Is it louder than S4 for ringtones?

I don't have the camera issue in low light, I guess I was lucky
- As I have big hands, I usually hold my phone with one hand, with One-hand operation turned OFF.
- I am getting a metal bumper, to make it wider and heavier, but thats why I like big phones, to actually feel the device haha! But in all seriousness, you can opt for no case, or just use a thin case from eBay.
- Easy, don't put it in your sports pants! haha. Fits my pockets well, even in tight jeans (back pocket usually)
- I'm used to the Note when I put it up to my ear, but that's because my hands are big, it looks natural.
The speaker is now facing you, rather than what it is being laid on, isn't that much better?!

Most people delete most of the Samsung crap as soon as they get root, 2GB RAM is enough for most people.
I don't see anything different with Note 3 in terms of speed even when I compare it to Note 2
I don't see any point of 4K recording and playback, it's for future but by then this phone will be old enough to change anyway.

Not everyone remove bloatware.
Also, Note 3 camera seems better base on some review site.
Note 3 design much nicer.
4K record is not gimmick even now, even the GSMArena had mention it get much details than record in 1080P by watching at any device. This is confirm as I test before, those though 4K video must watch at more than 100" 4K TV is way too wrong, check yourself then you know the different, even look inside the phone itself - 5.7" can see the different.
The camera position at bottom is the most correct way speaker shall, rather than put at behind.

Of all reasons you listed, why didn't you just stick with your Note II then?
Also, how can you even block the current speakers when you hold your phone? Do you like to keep it standing vertically on your palm all the time? I find it physically impossible to cover the current speakers with my hand when I use the phone.
Please enlighten us on how you can block the speaker 'usually', when using your phone to call, or text or even watch a movie.
I don't see any logical reasoning behind covering the bottom at ANY time, it's just the most awkward way to hold a phone.
The current speaker layout is MUCH better than the Note II imo, when I sleep, my phone is facing upward and not downward, my alarm is much louder this way because its right near my ear, rather than being muffled on the table.

I don't use any phone for more than a few months, just makes me bored. It wasn't easy to take a picture lol This is how you hold a phone which has almost no bezel and software buttons -apparently my screen is very dirty, didn't notice it without that flash- (you'd hit the capacitive buttons if you put your thumb on the front). How do you hold your phone? I also put my phone in portrait position on my bed while I'm lying, browsing the net and listening to some stuff, thankfully I enabled 180 degree rotating so I can use it upside down.

Well, the point of a Note 3 is to take advantage of the big screen and the S Pen, which is why people usually tend to run TW based ROMs on this device. With an S device, you can just convert it to a Nexus and not lose any functionality.
If you do decide to go for an N900 you get the advantage of having no known KNOX counter in download mode when flashing ROMs. Just import a 9005 from a website or get your friends to get one for you overseas, it's worth it.

I dunno, I usually keep that area free of blockade, maybe because I'm used to PSP/PS3 controllers I tend to keep my fingers off those areas when I play a game.
I barely use my speaker to play music, I only use it for Alarms and the rare occasion of showing someone a Youtube video on the street. Listening to music or watching my videos all rely on my BT earbuds.
Hope someone can help! I've been sitting on my Galaxy Note 3 waiting to find a 128GB version of the Note 5, only to discover a disappointing lack of features in the Note 5. So I've decided to "upgrade" to the Note 4 for now and wait for the Note 6 specs.
Based on my location/carrier, it is the SM-N910W8 that would be most suitable, however I was hoping to get the bronze/gold phone and I'd like to maximize my travel flexibility. I've been researching all the region/processor/band intel trying to figure out if there is a compatible model that a firmware/modem flash could tweak to achieve the correct band communication for my "home" and "away" options.
For instance I discovered the SM-N910T has similar specs, and added WCDMA. I've been comparing the specs from sammobile so hopefully this information is accurate. Unfortunately the SM-910T doesn't seem to come in bronze/gold, unless I buy out of Hong Kong and then am I really getting a genuine SM-N910T?
How much of the band capability is software driven (and therefore flashable) and how much of it is base hardware driven? Is there a universal base model from another country that operates on similar bands that I can flash/tweak?
Thank you for any help on this - I'm going cross-eyed from all the research but am no closer to a solution!
Anyone able to help on this? I'd like to pull the trigger on a Note 4 asap!
Thanks!
Sorry if this is unhelpful (i hate folk responding for the sake of it , contray to this....) but if you check frequency bands of nation , see whcich nation uses similar & go from there , I upgraded to note4 from 3 in April (difference is unprecedented) ; Simple Kernel functionality & perfomance improves massively.
I was reading (literally Last night) an XDA article (Search for it on the blog section) that the Note5 doesn't contain the same performance boost that the Note4 had compared to the note3.
https://www.xda-developers.com/search/Note5
No MicroSD or removable battery
However there are notorious issues with Note4 like balck screening & the lackk of adhesive between the LCD digitiser & Screen & the base body , I Yesterday replaced my screen myself , i mention this because I had to revert back to my note 3 for a week & in doing so (Very impressed its still being maintained) I realised my signal was absurd constantly drropping having to restart the phone only to have to restart again , playing with APNs etc ; Nightmare.
---- A simple modem update using a NordicModem via RRmx 6.xx Topic (I use that Custom Rom on both) & my signal literally hasnt been better.
Carriers are always having to adjust through government , telecommunication regulations & hardware capabilities & of course public health (these are wireless frequencies we have soft tissue & if your fortunate enough to know anything about RF this is quite serious)
Thats the main reason I went to note 4 , the last of the top variants that allow for a removable battery , I ordered via amazon an Sunzos & RavPower replacement battery (Highly recommend) & literally throw them in my pocket (obviously need an external battery charger)
I live out in the sticks, I rely on wifi calling. I am hoping there is some improvement with the modem. Both my GS6 and Note4 cannot make a reliable call here without WIFI.
Curious to know about this as well..

I have better service so far with the S7E on T-Mobile than my S6E. That's for sure. Noticed last night
I'll be back in my office with less-than-stellar coverage on Friday. My Note 5 used to struggle for LTE until recent radio updates allowed it to pull 3-4 bars fairly easily (not in an active Band 12 area for this office). Hoping the S7 Edge can do this too.
Has anyone figured out how to tell the phone to prefer Band 12 over others? I used the same Samsung Service Mode from the Note 5, but the options are laid out completely differently.
My Note 5 had much better reception inside the building that I work. Hopefully an update will make it better.

My Note 5 & S7E has about the same signal strength. But, from speed wise, Note 5 is pulling about 10Mbps faster than S7E (35 vs 25). Also, another strange thing is that Note 5 is LTE towers while S7E is using GSM towers. I couldn't find any switch to fix that...
Side by side with my s6 I'm getting an extra bar on the s7
For some reason the signal is been pretty spotty compare to my Note 5. Hopefully, Tmobile has an update in the works.
Better signal but more important then that is faster connect. A lot of times on my s6 there would be long pauses before ringing. The s7e is much faster.
