3 phones, same location, same operator, 3 different speed navigation

How do I explain this?
I did an experiment with 3 phones (sony ericsson live with walkman, galaxy nexus, huawei vodafone), all located in the same space (side by side), all with the all inclusive option wind and navigation 3g.
I launched at the same time the application speedtest on all phones and I had the results veramenti distant from each other. I repeated the experiment 3-4 times.
results:
huawei: just over 1 meg
galaxy nexus: a little over 2 mega
sony: over 5!

The modems I would think is the explaination

and ofc phone signal reception...
I even had an xperia mini pro sk17i and my girlfriend had the same phone, both on 3 with super internet and my phone didn't receive signal at all when I was not under an aerial... (euphemism)
Sadly we had the same baseband too, so it was an hardware problem i guess..

Yeah i also think it is the hardware. If you remember iphone 4, that had a bad signal if hold it in the wrong hand and plus companies always try to save money through using cheapest material, i wouldnt wonder ...

Will you switch to Galaxy 4 again?

last week, my glaxy S3 I9300 exploded during the phone call, and my mild chin got hurt, I don't know If I should continue to believe Samsung Galaxy S models again, Will you switch to Galaxy 4 if you were me?

I only support companies that have products blow up in my face.

I seriously dont beleive that it "blew up". Were you using a non oem battery?

This is the internet, so "Pictures or it didnt happen". I can tell you right now that if this happened to me I would take pictures of my phone and my chin. So where are yours?

Proof that your phone actually blew up?

Odd... considering only a very small fraction of those that have "blown up" have ever been recorded and those that did made it to major electronics sites.
The most that has happened to an s4 has been the charge port frying and catching fire. Even then 95% of people are thinking in regards to voltage with the charger.

Haha I like how this guy makes a thread to only say that. Then doesn't respond 3 days after. This is nonsense. And I think he is just being a troll using then story that came out of China in believe last week that some guy claims his galaxy blew up or caught on fire.

Going from the GS2 to the GS4 gets a "meh" from you? Really? The screen alone is a massive upgrade in every way. Different strokes I guess, but jeez.

The screen is just about the only thing that is noticeably better between the two, IMO. Well I suppose if you already have LTE rolled out in your area, that would also be a welcomed improvement. I did have an iPhone 4s for a short time. For me, the jump from the g2 to the g4 would be like going from a 4s to a 5. Higher resolution and slightly larger screen and LTE vs 3g. Other than that, the differences are only slightly incremental and aren't a night and day difference that can be noticed immediately or even after a week of usage.
The stock battery on the s4 does seem to last longer than the stock s2.

Galaxy Note 3 radio / modem weaker than Galaxy S2

Just wanted to compare experiences here.
Before I switched to Note 3 I was mostly using my S2, and seldomly Note 1
(The reason I rarely used Note 1 was due its horrible battery life)
Do Note (no pun intended ) I'm comparing reception for AWS band (1700/2100)
So S2 was my main phone until I got the Note 3, the S2 can get great signals even at bad reception areas like toilet / stairwells / elevators inside a building without windows nearby.
However with Note3, I'm sitting right next to a Window and it keeps on losing reception.
Perhaps it has something to do with its power saving feature in the kernel (I'm not talking about the "Power Saving Feature" in Settings)
The reason I believe this might be the case, is simply due the fact that If I initiate a data session then it'll suddenly get signal again, and my SMS / missed calls will come through just fine, but if I let it idle, then it loses network connection and I'll miss reception.
I'm on the Stock ROM, only rooted, no other changes have been made.
Share your experience.

i think i have to agree with you.....my signal is weaker on the note 3 than it was on the note 1 (everything was changed on this one). i'm looking to change the modem as it is still the one that came with it and no updates to the firmware as yet on vodafone uk

I also jumped from s2 to note 3 and I agree, what I have seen also and share it here is that mj2 modem is better in Wifi less power consuming but mj1 is better in carrier signal but more power consuming so I rolled back to mj1.

Significantly lower power combined with immature software. I'd alai be willing to bet the radios weren't the greateston the s2 right when it came out.

This is also the first snapdragon 800 device I believe. If you'd rather not wait for them to get the power correct, you can tune it yourself...

Let's not forget about the snapdragon variant of the s3.
Idle power had an extra 0 appended to it and ended up with an idle power draw of 30ma instead of 3ma.

+1 agreed, S2 still had unbeatable radio/modem. On my S3 had installed custom Kernel to matched with S2.

Speedtest Apple 5s vs Galaxy S4 WTF??

I use an Iphone 5S for work, and have a Samsung S4 for personal use, I overwhelmingly prefer the S4, but . . .
I did an experiment today, phones sitting side by side, both on LTE...
Iphone 5S - 24.66d/14.44u, ping 18ms
Galaxy S4 - 6.4d/1.12u, ping 119ms
What is going on here? Is our modem that bad? Anyone have any tips to improve speed?

There is no real way to improve speeds. There are some "tweaks" that exisit somewhere for 3G idk about 4G. It could just be that at that certain point when you ran the speed test the IPhone had better signal than the GS4.

They were sitting on my desk and I ran them both at the same time and to the same server. Both were showing two bars at the time.

Did you look in the speed test app that you were using on each phone to make sure that they had connected to the same server?
You can't base anything off of a single side by side speed test. You should do the test several (at least 10) times in different locations and at different times of day. Record the results and take an average.
At the very least twice when you are doing so to check for discrepancies.
Anyway, I have never had an issue with the LTE speed on GS4. Just ran a quick test and got 21 down, and 6 up. The LTE reception is kind of bad around here too.

TMO folks, how does the signal strength compare with GS6?

I live out in the sticks, I rely on wifi calling. I am hoping there is some improvement with the modem. Both my GS6 and Note4 cannot make a reliable call here without WIFI.

Curious to know about this as well..

I have better service so far with the S7E on T-Mobile than my S6E. That's for sure. Noticed last night

I'll be back in my office with less-than-stellar coverage on Friday. My Note 5 used to struggle for LTE until recent radio updates allowed it to pull 3-4 bars fairly easily (not in an active Band 12 area for this office). Hoping the S7 Edge can do this too.
Has anyone figured out how to tell the phone to prefer Band 12 over others? I used the same Samsung Service Mode from the Note 5, but the options are laid out completely differently.

My Note 5 had much better reception inside the building that I work. Hopefully an update will make it better.

My Note 5 & S7E has about the same signal strength. But, from speed wise, Note 5 is pulling about 10Mbps faster than S7E (35 vs 25). Also, another strange thing is that Note 5 is LTE towers while S7E is using GSM towers. I couldn't find any switch to fix that...

Side by side with my s6 I'm getting an extra bar on the s7

For some reason the signal is been pretty spotty compare to my Note 5. Hopefully, Tmobile has an update in the works.

Better signal but more important then that is faster connect. A lot of times on my s6 there would be long pauses before ringing. The s7e is much faster.

I've noticed that my LTE signal in the office is slightly weaker than my Note 5, but it still works.

Noticed my LTE signal is weaker in the office as well (Coming from note 5). Hope a update fixes the issue.
