[Q] LG g2 power button - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, do any of you have a problem with the power button? More specifically, when I try to wake the phone, instead of using the knock knock feature, u sometime press the power button. What happens is, the screen turns on, and then immediately after 1-2 sec turns off again. It seems that I only can turn the screen on by using knock knock

It does that when the proximity (right next to the front speaker on the top front, to the left) is covered, so it doesn't turn on in your pocket. It's a safety feature. So it has to be completly clear before you press the power button.
A bad screenprotector can cause it to happen.

I have no screenprotector, and I held the phone in may hand. I choose to restart the phone and it helped.

Yay, proximity sensors just sometimes **** up. It used to do on my old phone. I thought they had fixed that long time ago though, hence I didn't mention that possibility.
Good you fixed it!

Same thing happens to my phone and it bugs the sh*t out of me. There better be a fix soon for this.

It's just due to the proximity sensor. Nothing to be worried about.

So how does the proximity sensor error work exactly? if it detects low light (like being in a pocket) it won't let you unlock? Wouldn't that mess up unlocking in the dark?

It's a light detector AND proximity sensor.
Uses the light for the screen light (auto brightness)
The proximity sensor checks if there is something covering the screen. (like being in your pocket)

Stop screen light activating when locked.

Ok i noticed when the phone is locked, any press of any key on the front activates the screen light, now when the phone is in my pocket will thid be happening all the time, or will the proximity sensor stop the light from activating?

It will activate anytime a button is pressed.
Yeah thats what i said already, but you didnt answer the question about the proximity sensor?
I think he did....
The light will activate when a button is pressed even when in your pocket.

As far as i know, the proximity sensor only works when being on the phone and not when device is using other apps or is locked....
The proximity sensor will only turn off the screen/backlight when you are in a call. It will not turn off the screen/backlight if any buttons are pressed while keylocked in your pocket.
thats just lame!
No it's actually not that lame. Proximity sensor that's always on will be draining your battery.
No so much as pressing the bloody backlight every 2 mins, will need a fix for that, crap.
I think its a nice idea. Im very sure the proximity sensor doesnt drain that much power so you can use it to manage the backlight when in pocket.
on the one hand it would be nice to use that sensor to keep the backlight off while in pocket, but I can't really say I had that problem. When I put my HD2 in the pouch it only turned on the backlight when I pressed the buttons. I can't say it happened while it was in my pocket, every time I took it out of my pocket the backlight was off.
Just cus it was off when you took it out, dont mean you were not activating it on occasions, you cant see it can you?

I don't know what you're doing pressing things in your pocket for every 2 minutes, but I suspect that if you get caught doing it in public you'll risk getting arrested.
If it's such a world-shaking problem, write a program to do it yourself, it should be pretty simple. Chop chop.

Unhelpful but amusing...
I am surprised that you are pressing the buttons all the time in your pocket. If the phone is locked (ie press the hang up key once) the screen goes off, and if I touch the screen it doesn't come back on. I have to press a button. Those need a little press to them, so surely not something your leg is doing when the phone is in your pocket. Unless you wear skin tight jeans or something...
3D witch hunt started, forget it....
Yeah, I don't know what their problem is with this question.
It is very easy for the buttons to be pressed while the phone is in your pocket, especially when it is held tightly in the leather case -- any depression along the case will press buttons that are already tightly packed inside the case. This can happen without your hands coming close to your pocket -- it can happen just from the phone shifting in your pocket while you sit up or down, or from your pocket bumping up against a wall or piece of furniture.
There also seems to be a problem with the backlight not turning off automatically until the PIN is entered. So if you accidentally press any button, such as by sitting down and shifting the phone in your pocket, the phone's backlight will stay on forever until you either press the power button or enter the PIN.
Until this issue is fixed, the HD2 is basically useless as a phone for me -- battery life is 4-5 hours max.
Just dicks i guess, obviously their opinion is a better one.

Display goes on and off during calls

When I'm on handsfree during a call and trying to access the phones menus or programs, the screen first lights up after pressing pwr button, stays on for about 0,5sec, then goes black, then flickers on again, then off, then on again, and then off!
Sometimes I manage to get it to stay on by pressing on the screen repeatedly during the first 0,5sec. But usually I go through that whole procedure and have to repeat it until I manage to access the phone.
Anyone experienced the same thing? Only happens during call.

Same thing here, I use a BT headset. It is quite annoying.. I think it is trying to shut down the screen, because of battery saving. But I want to use the phone while speaking
Could have to do with the proximity sensor maybe?
Yeah it is to do with the proximity sensor. To solve this issue I try not to hover my finger over the top of the phone where the speakers are located (I think this is where the proximity sensor is placed).

yes, it is placed to the right of the speaker.
if u look at the phone in bright sunlight you can see the sensor

Display goes dark when starting a call

i read that the problem could be the screen protector so i removed it. still the same problem. as soon as i start a call, the display goes dark and cant be reactivated until the call has ended. i already reseted the phone. didnt help anything.
is the sensor dead?
Have you tried turning the screen on after you pick up?
of course i did but it doesnt work. or it just flashes randomly very fast after pressing the power button multiple times.
Do you have a screen protector on there? I had a Realook screen protector on there for a day and it kept happening. It covers the sensor so after you start the call, it goes dark immediately. Thought it was hardware problem until I remembered it was working fine before I put on a screen protector.
i removed the screen protector, as i said in my first post.
That's a common problem, its due to a bug in the proximity sensor.
Try keeping it away from your face for a few seconds and than pressing the power button to turn it on, if that doesn't work, than there is no real fix that I am aware of.

well the thing is, i never put it near my face. i always hold it in my hand and dial/call.
It could also be a faulty proximity sensor. You can get apps the check the prox. sensor. See if they're picking it up correctly.
If it seems like it's not working, you could send it in for repair.
when you start a call the display is on and will turn off when you cover the top left, I enabled power button to hang up and it didn't come on when i moved it from my ear on a long call till I pressed the power button lol,
I will have to try with swipe to wake or another way to turn display on,
you rooted?

[Q] N910G proximity sensor

When i make a call, and place the phone on my ear, the screen will go black (turned off), but when i take it away from the ears, thr screen stays off. I had to press a button like power or volume to turn on the screen.
This wasn't a problem when i first got the phone (3 months ago).
Only recently i got the problem.
Phone is stock, not rooted and still on 4.4.4
I searched the settings, but couldn't find any.
I tried *#0*# to being up the hardware test, went to sensors, waved on the sensors, and i got green screen and the phone vibrated, so i assume the hardware is working fine.
I'm guessing this got to do with software?
Please help
Anyone?
Hey...so in the test where you cover the prox sensor and it turns green and vibrates, does it stop when you lift your finger and then able to repeat that?
If so the sensor should be fine, try a restart. Pull battery out or hold power button > restart phone. If you haven't already.
When i moved my hand over the sensor, it turned green and kept vibrating. Only way to stop it was to press back on the capacitive button.
I have restarted, took battery off etc. No luck.
Any other suggestions?

R u using any screen guard? If yes first try to clean that area or make sure it's not covering sensor.

I did, and I thought that too, so I remove the screen guard, and still the same.
I've cleaned the surface etc... :crying:

display won't stay off

I have a s7 att with all latest firmware and updates. When I'm in a call using bluetooth and I press the power button to turn the display off so I can slide it into my pocket. The display goes black then wakes again after about 3 seconds. Tried a factory reset, reboots and general troubleshooting. Even smart stay and proximity sensor. Even changed my case in case something was triggering it...
Any assistance?

The only work around I have found is to hit the home button, or leave the call app in any way, then lock the screen.
This is SUPER annoying!!!
