:crying:So my girlfriend managed to drop my beautiful white s3 and now i wanna drop her ass. somehow she managed to break it the same day i rooted it and started to truly enjoy it.
Screen cracked at the top corner now theres a spider crack all over the top of the screen with a couple of cracks that run down to the middle phone still works, but the crack is killing me on the inside hehe. Now funny part is i bought the defender for it the day i bought it cause i knew it was too weak to handle a hard drop, and i've been checking the mail for it for 2 weeks now. then she comes and does that just the day before it arrived. After crying inside a while and just wanting to punch someone i managed to start looking at options.
checked online and the parts cost $240-$290, bell and best buy can fix it by it'll cost at least $325. I also bought the best buy protection plan (12.99/month). am thinking I should be able to find some cheap non-samsung parts for much cheaper than that, replace the screen and give it to best buy for an exchange as long as something is wrong with it (not sure wt though )

Only thing I could think of is they might do it different over there in Canada. I think that is where the OP is from.
Just posted about this in the other cracked screen thread...
"Missed my damn pocket on Saturday night, and dropped mine on the garage floor. Got a small crack about as wide a finger nail from the right side of the ear piece curving up to the edge. Which is strange, cause the only other mark on the phone is a small scuff at the bottom of the back cover. But, I have BB insurance, so its in being fixed with no deductible! I've dropped my epic a few times in the last year, and not scratch on the screen. Makes me wonder what they changed in the formula from og gorilla glass to gorilla glass 2.
As much as I don't want to add all the bulk to it, the Otterbox Defender, or Trident Kraken may be in its future...

not sure how you guys manage your finances, but if there is a fee, shouldn't see be paying for it?
If I dropped my girl's laptop, phone, crashed her car (or w/e) and we weren't pretty much married, I would cover it to get whatever it is fixed.
I dropped my friend's motorcycle helmet while handing it to him several years ago. he didn't have a good grip and as I passed it, it slipped into his hand from mine and fell to the concrete floor. it was still intact, but had nice bruising from the concrete. I apologized and got him a new one within a week...

What girlfriend?
The PEP from Best Buy in Canada is different than the one in the US. It does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, basically they call it "stupidity". I'm not calling it that, that's how they word it. PEP from Best Buy only extends the manufacturer's warranty. So instead of getting refurbs, you get brand new replacements. And you can pick a different phone if you want. I posted in another thread indicating that no carrier or 3rd party store in Canada offers insurance anymore. At least not that I'm aware of. It sucks because Best Buy charges $12.99 + taxes per month for the PEP. I have 2 PEP's from Best Buy. On one of my PEP's, I already got 3 brand new replacement phones. On my
2nd one I got one brand new replacement in which I chose a different model.
So both already paid itself.

Wow I can't imagine trying to sell that to customers. It's already hard enough trying to get people to get the 9.99 plan that replaces the phone with no deductible. Customers say "if I break the phone I'll buy a new one for 200, not realizing the phone is $650.

I think the deductible for our phone is $150. Which it's still cheaper than replacing just the screen.

If you wanna be technical about it then she's my fiance... I'd expect her to pay otherwise for sure lol... I guess a broken 4.8" screen makes you a bit bitter lol...
Yea best buy Canada is another story they do not cover physical or water damage... Am gonna try calling visa today to see if there is any insurance that my purchase can be covered under... But after reading online about this am no longer hopeful for anything....

So I was offered to buy a used HTC HD2. I have no idea how much it'll cost considering its condition. So can someone help me shed some light and give me an estimated price of phone? Everything is in tact and the only things I noticed on it was a couple of dings on the corners. Some help please?
Your location would help but for a used HD2 there would be no point paying any more than £100 I think.
I live in the California, United States
I would say around 75 to 115USD for a good working one, higher price being a very clean example.
A scruffy HD2 with dinks. poor battery cover, worn buttons & perhaps opened for repair but with unknown details on what done & by who is worth about 50USD tops if working ok.
I can buy EU HD2 in my location for about 100USD & that will be clean example unopened with original void tags & fully working with battery & original charger.
Hd2 is a diacontinued set, how can you buy it sealed??? No shopkeeper keeps it boxed for sale now, you will only get it in wron condition.

Void tag seals on handset screw-heads is what I am referring to.
New stock is still available, can be had in MBK if hunt around but would not go that route myself or pay the asking price ...

100USD and probably a bit more if sold on eBay or Amazon with some international shipping destinations but all down to you as a buyer on what it worth to you.
Do bare in mind digitizers are very common failure point & mainboard cpu bga also is a weakness & that tends to get hammered worse under Android nand builds.

I see my teacher on a daily basis unless he has a sub.
Ugh, it JUST happened.
To be specific, my screen is now completely unusable. The cracks are likely within the digitizer so nothing shows up properly.
I have no Sprint warranty on this phone, it's only a couple months old and sadly I bought it off of Craigslist to save a little money on the full price.
What should I do?
I went on ebay and got everything replaced with the exception of the motherboard for $155.
It's really easy to do yourself. YouTube, a screwdriver, and 7 screws.

That's the expensive route. If he didn't break his digitizer (screen is still responsive) then he can just replace the glass that should be about $50 and take about 15 mins to do.

Yeah. Check that video out on YouTube. It is not that easy. It should take 15 mins if you have done it before. You also run the risk if breaking the lcd in your attempt making the $50 purchase useless.
You have to use a heat gun to soften the very tough glue that holds the glass to the digitalizer and slowly and carefully pry them apart. Don't get glass on the lcd (scratches) and don't get fingerprints, lint, or hair on there either (pain to completely remove).
I'm actually really good at hardware repairs (prior Apple repair tech) and even that fix makes me uneasy, but it's your call.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
So basically, I have no good options to get the digitizer repaired at a low cost other than to do it myself? What a waste of money this has been and now with repairs I'm bringing the cost back up to full retail price. This has been a bad day.
I actually bought my phone off of Amazon; and when I activated the phone through Sprint, I was able to put the mobile insurance on it. Maybe you can call Customer Care, and put the insurance on your device. Then take it into a corporate store, and they should exchange it.
@redchevy90 what do you mean by mobile insurance?
insurance
I mean the premium insurance that sprint has. Its like $7 or $9 a month, and it covers your device.
I just called in and they said I activated this phone ONE DAY over a month ago so they won't do it for me by phone. They said I could take my chances at the corporate store. If this works, I *could* actually get a free replacement. But the corporate store would have been nice enough to give it to me...
You dropped your phone, you broke it, they won't replace it. That is an Assurian claim if you had insurance, which by the way is $11 a month not $7. Plus you will have to pay a $150 deductible. Sounds like the cheapest route will be fixing it yourself and next time being more careful. What was suggested earlier is pure fraud and the reason why the insurance deductible keeps going up. Own up to your failings and fix it yourself instead of increasing the fees and deductibles for the rest if us.
Sent from my icrap 2 using Tapatalk HD
Yeah, forget the fraud option. Didn't fully understand what was going on with that anyway. I found someone semi-local who has an extra digitizer that I'll just pay for and repair myself. Life's a ***** but you suck it up and move on.
The phone is still new, but radio shack now fixes screens for around $70 I believe. That's lower than a deductible.

Where did you get everything but the motherboard for 155? Who was the seller?
just bought a used sph-l720 (sprint gs4 with good esn) on the cheap
the lcd dont display anything and the digitizer is cracked of course
when i do power the phone on i do hear the sounds and the bottom capacitance buttons light up
anyhow i been following taredown guides off youtube and to my understanding (as i sit hear with my phone mostly disassembled) is that the digitizer and lcd are actually one piece unlike the s3 and s2 and almost every other phone i have had in the past?
it looks like to me the lcd and digitzer use the same "one" connector that plugs in
the digitizer and lcd used to each have their own cable connectors
so what is this actually called? its not just a digitizer and its not just an lcd is it just now called the "screen" since they are both combined into one unit only?
no info from anyone on this?
Is anyone here familiar with how much I'll have to spend to get the screen repaired for me?
My screen finally cracked after someone knocked it out of my hand, my bumper wasn't sufficient for this kind of impact. The bottom half of the screen doesn't function.

Doesn't make sense to spend nearly $200 on repairs for a problem that's affecting ~15% of my screen. I've been using my phone upside via rotation to overcome the dead zone.
However I cannot stand knowing a crack is on my phone, this is the first device I've allowed this to happen to ever.

Because these repair centers are usually authorized one and can quote anything. Happened with my HTC sensation. They charged me Rs. 11000 for the screen and when I confirmed with HTC they said its for 4000 about 2 years ago. So be sure about getting it repaired anywhere. Hope things work out for you. Hello Rishav,
I dropped my Nexus 4 yesterday...the display is now cracked and unresponsive to touch, so I cannot get past the screen unlock pattern. I read your post that it costs Rs. 4500 to get the screen/digitizer replaced in India.
I was wondering if you know where I could get it done in Pune. I see that your location is Gurgaon but any info you have / could provide would be appreciated. I searched on Google for Nexus 4 repairs in Pune but haven't come across anything useful.
Thanks in advance!

Just contacted LG via live chat, and apparently it'll be between 100 and $180. I'm going with 180 because the frame, digitizer, and screen are all damaged. Sadly I don't have $180 right now(have to worry about tuition, transportation, bills, etc.). Think I'll just sell it on eBay or whatever.

Hi I work in a phone repair shop in the uk. I don't recommend just changing the glass. It's nigh on impossible to do without damaging the digitizer. You need to change the glass/digi/lcd and frame complete. The part you need is about £85 on ebay so a shop is gonna do it between £120-£150. Anything over that is a bit pricey.
LG is repairing mine this week for 153.00
Symptom/Cause: Damaged housing need full Refurbishment (LCD, TW, Back glass, Cosmetics)
Repair Cost: $ 153.00
Back in the fall I dropped my two month old Nexus 10 and shattered the glass. Everything else still worked but with shards of exposed glass it wasn't to safe to use. I had insured the tablet and ending up buying a new one but was able to keep the old one. I'd like to get the orginal one going again now. I know Samsung will repair it for close to $300. It's not worth $300 to fix it so I'm hoping there are cheaper alternatives I just haven't been able find. Are there any DIY or shops that will do the repair for less?
Thanks!
Well, that depends on your location. Alternatively, if the screen wasn't too shattered, you can try applying a screen protector, that way its still some what usable. Maybe even connect it to your TV as a media device.
It's definitely past the point of a screen protector saving it.
I'm in Austin, Texas.
Its still worth 150 though right?
