[HELP] Galaxy S4 AMOLED Issue - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I woke up today with my i9505 having a little pink smudge. It's on the screen. I don't think it's because of pressure applied to the screen.
What can be the cause of this? How can I fix this?

Can you upload photo?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium HD app

imgur . co m/rkNeGlx
It's very unnoticable on the picture because I took it with a ****ty camera. But it's a real annoyance to my OCD. It's somewhat noticable on white backgrounds.
Can't paste a full link. Forums say I can't post a photo when 10 posts or less.

I had a pink vertical line almost going through the center of the screen 3 months ago, it is mostly due to pressure applied, but i took it to the Samsung Service Centre and they replaced it for free! Dunno if they do it in other countries though. Took around 3-4 hours before i got the phone back good as new!

I am about to take it to my service center, but I am still thinking that my warranty might be void solely because I don't have my warranty card / receipt. They got washed out when my place got terribly flooded. So, I'm taking my chances if there are atleast any fixes to this.

Up. Help please. T.T

Help please.

What do you need help with?? And why do you keep bumping your thread??
This is XDA DEVELOPERS, not XDA service centre, warranty information centre or anything else.
You have a faulty phone, take it back to where you purchased it from. SIMPLE.
No one here on XDA can help you any more than they have already.
good luck!

'Patchy' backlight - what happen?

I've noticed recently the backlight on my HD2 seems to have suffered some sort of malfunction or something. Might be a bit of a strong way of describing it perhaps.
Basically imagine if you have a blank white screen/image showing on the phone, there's a couple of bits on it that always stay in the same place where the brightness is not the same as the rest. I'm certain it's only been like this recently but no idea why.
You can only really notice it with very pale or bits of white on the screen but am wondering:
1 - if anyone else has this,
2 - how it's happened,
3 - anything I can do about it,
In particular if it's a fault with the phone (as I'm certain the phone has never been knocked and it definitely has never been dropped or pressed hard etc), is this something I could get done under warrantee.
If it is, can I get it fixed on warrantee even with no receipt since I bought it on Ebay? Every single HD2 is still in its warrantee period so I hope they could do.
Thanks!
I have the same, they advised me to contact support, but i kinda neglected it for the time being.
I have the same kind of spot in the middle of my screen, i only really see it when the screen is white, annoying tho :/
I dont like the idea of having to send the phone out and missing it for a few weeks :'(
I had the same problem on my device so I called HTC and they picked it up, repaired it and sent it back. Well they sorted out this particular problem (by replacing the LCD panel) but, alas, created few more. The buttons were not placed properly, the body was damaged and etc. So Angry and Disappointed Me called them up and they picked it up again. This time they replaced the whole unit (the actual body if I am not mistaken) and sent it back. Finally I was glad to have my phone back after two weeks.
Funny enough most of the HTC employees that I spoke to had very poor English. And I spoke with quiet a few of them. Luckily I am talented at mimicking broken English and didn't have much problem getting my message across. I'd imagine for most people it should be very difficult to explain their problem and arrange repairs.
Thanks for the replies.
Is it possible to do this without a sales receipt and still not have to pay? I don't think I should have to pay since it's not very old at all but I can't prove it's actually my phone I guess.
Did you just contact them via the XDA website or something?
I got the same issue. Most annoying when reading long emails or articles. I thought about sending it in for repair but I have voided my warranty already and don't want to be missing my hd2 for a couple weeks and get hit with a massive bill. I think it has something to do with the layers in the LCD not being completely flat. But I havent got that far in my explorations of this phone, maybe I will on my next trip.
You should contact HTC support by calling at the number for your country that you can find from the HTC website.
They can do everything with the phone's serial no. At least that's how it worked for my Kaiser I got on ebay too when I had a prob with it.

Hmmm, good point. I have a custom rom on it so mine probably would be void too right? If I change it back to the original rom it should be ok though presumably?
Thanks anyway - glad this is not me.
I am also seeing this on my HD2. It is very faint and only really noticeable on white screens. Once you know it is there though you can't help but keep looking for it
To be honest I can put up with it as most of the time you can't actually see it, for example I can't see it now due to the keyboard being up.
I'd be interested to know if anyone in the UK sends their phone off for repair as I might do the same. I can't be without my phone though, it would be like loosing my arm!

Ah yes, so you did. Sorry I was looking at the flag on your profile not your location
I have a small crack on the glass of my HD2 as well between the bottom of the phone and the power / end call key. It looks like a small hair stuck under the button Not sure if they would replace the glass for me as well if I sent it off?
I got my phone from O2 so I'm wondering if I'd have to go to O2 for repair or direct to HTC, maybe I could do both
Anyway, for now I think I'll refrain from sending it off unless it really starts annoying me. A bit of a pain though
I've emailed HTC as well to ask about this.....

Cracks in the aluminum

Cracks in the aluminum. Just noticed today that my phone has cracks in the aluminum, i have never dropped the device and have had a Silicon cover on it.
I called the reseller and they want to send it to samsung, but that's gonna take like 2-3 weeks And samsung said that the warranty is gone, cus i have rooted it, but it has nothing to do with the software.
Anyone else that have seen this?

From CF-Root 6.4 thread:
How to uninstall
This is by no means an extensive guide for unrooting, but if you want to sell or warranty your device, I advise the following procedure:
- Use Triangle Away to reset the flash counters, and pull the battery immediately after rebooting starts
- Boot into recovery and perform a wipe, and pull the battery immediately after rebooting starts
- Go to SamMobile and get the stock firmware for your region
- Flash that stock firmware on your device
- Let Android boot, go through device setup (without doing any logins) until Android is fully usable again
- Reboot
- Wait at least 10 minutes
- Check Settings->About device->Status and make sure Device status is not "Modified"
- Perform another factory reset
- Boot into download mode and make sure the flash counter and system status are all set to official
Some of these steps may require further info, if you can't figure it out, do some more searching, or ask people who aren't me

Interesting... It does not look like a crack but a precise vertical cut.
Oh for God's sake this is like the 50th thread about this! And it's not a cut these phones do crack.

Sorry, i did try to search, but the search function seams to be broken?
I honestly don't know what to do, flash stock and send it to repair or just live with is :/
One it does look like a cut from the picture but visual inspection may show a crack .
What will Samsung say crack or cut when they look at it .
But you do say cracks not one crack .
Two removing traces of root is easy and returns phone to a warranty state .
So do you want to remove root return the phone and get it back in a few weeks saying not warranty its damaged .
In that respect could you not get a local store to just look at the crack first to confirm it is and save wasting time .
jje
I have one of these too!
I have vertical CUTS at all 4 corners, where they smooshed together the pieces. There is no space between the two sides of the cut, and you can't even feel it, but it's there and visible if you look for it. My phone has been dropped a fair amount, but the cuts were there the day I got it.
"Don't worry about it" is my advice.
* BTW, yours is definitely a crack. I still just wouldn't worry about it.
I have one on the bottom right corner too. And it looks more like a joint than a crack

Don't listen to the others telling you nit to worry. If you haven't dropped it get on to the place of purchase asap. I made the mistake of not doing that and dented my phone a little after so I'm out of luck. It will split all the way through soon. The ones in the four corners r normal.

I did drop my phone. Samsung are say the cracks are from the phone been dropped.
I think it's from the over heating problem the phone got.

Samung India refused the build quality frame crack issue

If anyone is facing build quality or Frame crack issues, Please report it here. dont post if the phone is dropped or mishandled by you.
If you are able to see any hairline cracks near the frame, or battery covers then post it here, This Samsung india is lying to me that none of the users have reported about this issue. but i can see so many links saying that intial peices which came from korea were of less build quality, starts devleoping cracks all over the frame after 3 to 4 months of usage. I was samsung fan , I had ever samsung gaalxy phone, SIII disappointede me a lot. I wont buy any samsung products from now on.
FYI...I am not talking about joints in the four corners

For all the ones that say that is a small crack, the phone is not going to fall apart, well, it won´t but for a phone that is expensive, this shouldn´t happen.
It´s the same that if you bougth a Ferrari and the Fascia gots a small crack rigth down the middle, it isn´t acceptable.

Please let me know how to raise the complaint. Can we raise complaint thru online or we have to go to service centre?
Pease raise a complaint through Online. Go to Samsung india site to raise the complaint, or call them in their Helpline no. and raise the complaint, Just use the same mobile no for every complaint you raise. So that they can track the history of complaints.
My suggestion first call them and raise a complaint and then again write to samsung care through their website (You need to open your battery cover and get the serial no imprinted on your phone). also attach the image of your Phone while you write them

I had earlier complained on the frame cracking issue near the USB port, I am doing this again since samsung india is not acknowledging this issue as in warrantable issue, rather charging me 7200 Rs to repalce the Unit, why do i need to pay if the problem is on your side. FYI i bought this pebble blue once it got launched in india, Those initial were found to be defective with less build quality around the frame. to prove this I have attached the pic of my phone with cracked area near the USB port, With lots of reference link to you, to know that this is a known issue,
Please ask samsung india to contact Samsung UK regarding this frame cracking issue, They are taking this as under warranty issue.

I kindly request Samsung india to get in touch with Samsung Korea to investigate on affected units , The initial phones were made with less build quality near the frame. Wthout investing dont just close this issue , Possible cause of this crack is known as the material does withstand the heat produced from inside, it starts expanding leading to a crack. failing to take proper resolution will lose a samsung fan . Every product from my home is samsung but i feel cheated after buying SIII, one of the worse proudct samsung ever made. if you fail to resolve my issue. I am not going to buy any samsung products in future. consumer compalint will be raised. also the article will be posted in every techincal forum to highlight the issue for other customers who are facing the same issue

Hi,
Not all Indian phones are facing this problem
Most of the people are facing. If your phone is fine then you are lucky. Be happy
problem lies with initial pieces which were shipped at time of release date. It was not a shipping defect , i didnt find any crack when i got the phone, It didnt come out of the box, This mysterious crack starts to arise after a few weeks or months, You are lucky you didnt get it yet, It doesnt mean that your peice is defect free. It may arise after some months bcos of poor build quality, As said it arises due to heat from inside of your phone (Metal frame is plastic , Im not sure about the new peices , some people say they are of good quality bit thicker than the early ones). But if its the case then samsung has cheated the people who bought it initially. still if you had bought recently and still see a crack (see the MFG date).
FYI , I play and browse daily for atleast 2 to 3 hours. so a mediocre user , If you are a die hard gamer or browse too much you would have cracked it within weeks,, Thats the reason it took me 4 months for the crack to appear. Depends upon the usablilty.

[Q] Section of touch screen not working

Please see attachment, it is a screenshot similar to the problem I have.
A part of the screen is not touch-respondsive. It only happened recently, never had this problem before.
Possible to fix? I have trouble unlocking the 9 dots pattern everytime I turn on the phone because of this problem.
Please help, thanks.
Never mind, flashed a different kernal and its working now.
edit: Wait, no it's still there.
update: I wiped everything and installed factory 4.2.2 patch (occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.tgz) but still cannot fix this problem. Please help!
update: Tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2027476 still not working :crying:
update: This also not working for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163924... possible hardware issue?
verdict: I will live with this for now, after 1 day and still can't fix it then I will contact google hopefully for a replacement.
bump
I am having the exact same issue. That almost makes me think it could be a software issue but you said you already did a factory reset.
The weird thing is that it looks like the same part of the screen. Its a horizontal section in the very middle.
My best conclusions are that its the digitizer. It just started happening out of no where though. Very frustrating. Makes it impossible to hit the send button on the stock messaging app without minimizing the keyboard! I take excellent care of my Nexus 4. It has a case and it hasn't been dropped. It hardly has a scratch on it! Its a month old.

Strongertyer I can feel your frustration.
Here's mine (the one in my op was found from google). Mine is a bit lower, it blocks the top half of the qwer line on the keyboard and the yes/no buttons on prompt windows.
I can still type qwer just fine by pressing the bottom half of the keys, but for the the prompts I have to tilt and rotate the screen every time so the buttons aren't under the "dead zone".
Strongtyer are you also thinking of sending the phone back to Google?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Just talked to support and they seemed helpful. However, his first suggestion was to do a factory reset of course. He said if that didn't work then I could send my phone back for a replacement. Did a factory reset and still the same issue. Looks like I'll be calling again tomorrow.
I guess the plus side is that they send brand new phones and not just refurbished ones.
Any luck on your end?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I gave up fixing it already as you can see in my 2nd post and I believe it is not possible to fix it other than having the whole screen replaced, so I asked directly for a replacement under warranty. Then after a brief moment google emailed me a set of instructions for packing the phone.
So on Sunday evening I booked the courier, printed the documents, picked everything back in the box, warped and taped it. And today the courier came and collected my phone.
Now I have to use my good old HTC Legend again. However it uses regular SIM card, so I had a bit of fun making myself an adapter to up size the Nexus 4's micro-sim!
I talked to Google today and they are sending me a replacement. They told me I can keep the phone till the new one arrives. I just have to return it within 21 days.
Just crossing my fingers that they don't say the damage is my fault. I don't know how o could have caused it. I haven't does it and I take really good care of it.

You should contact google anyway if you want a warranty replacement. Go to the link below, click contact google, answer a few check box questions and there should be a phone number.

Because I believe that the only way to fix this is to have the screen replaced.
Have the same problem here. I have the phone for 1 month now.
I live in the Netherlands and the nexus 4 did not get official release here. Should I still contact Google?
Could it be this problem only happens with the newer phone's? I have the one with the little feet on the back. Version 605 I thought. What version do you guys have?
Also should I unroot and lock the boot loader when I send it in for repair ?even though the problem has nothing to do with it.
Sorry for the poor English...

Welcome to xda-developers. Your English is fine.
You should contact Google.
Interesting that you mention the newer version of the phone -- I'd be interested in knowing if this is in fact a result of a newer manufacturing process, different materials, or maybe the place of manufacture (Korea or China). The place of manufacture can be identified by the letter in the fourth position of the serial number found on the box.
can someone update us on this issue? I have the same problem and i am so sad! I saved up 8 months to get this phone!

well, its certainly a hardware issue.
Digitizer, for what I know.
But no easy solution.
Would have happened due to the faulty charger.
But google is not helping!
I have the same exact issue. Playing PVZ2 is now extra difficult because of this issue.
Is there any other fix other than an RMA (currently not in the US)? :crying:

I have the same problem but mine is like 2 inches from the bottom of the screen. I can use the softkeys in portrait but they are unusable in landscape. I have had the phone since Nov 12 so sadly my phone is now out of warranty. LG's approved repair centre want £95 for a new screen. I am thinking maybe buy a Nexus 5 and trade this in for £70. I could sell it for like £130 but I would feel bad selling a phone I know the screen is on its last legs.

HTC Repair Centre

Has anyone any experience sending their phone to the HTC repair centre after bricking their phone?
Long story short but i flashed the wrong boot animation and completely wiped the phone and despite several attempts to get a ROM on it again (spent days) I was unable to do so so brought it back to the shops where I bought it (was locked to o2 but I got it unlocked)
They sent it to company here called Fonemenders, i got a text today saying it has to be sent for level 3 repairs and mentioned something about the motherboard, now that has scared me a bit, it's bad enough I have to wait another 7 to 10 days but does anyone think I'll get charged given they'll see that it says tampered on it, i fail to see how it could be a problem with the motherboard too.
Has anyone any experience sending their phone to the HTC repair centre and what was the process.
Seriously contemplating never flashing anything again on my phone after this nightmare

I don't have any experience with HTC's repair centers, but I've sent in several rooted Samsung devices and a bricked Asus Transformer for repair. My experience has been that the people in the repair centers really don't give a crap. Relax and hope for the best :good:
Samsung phones are seriously easy to modify compared to HTC, I'm no noob and read extensively on here and followed instructions to a t but still couldnt manage to get a stock or custom ROM back on my phone after that bad flash and me wiping it, no matter what I done.
Feel like I'm missing a limb here have gone over a week without it and now have another week wait, i won't rest easy until I have a fully working phone again.
Hope you are right my friend.

I don't think HTC phones are difficult to flash, sure, not as easy as Samsung, but on the other hand, much harder to brick.

I'm a bit concerned though why they mentioned the motherboard (see attached) there was nothing wrong with the motherboard all that needed to be done is for stock ROM to be flashed back on it.
I'm reading some reports of people being charged a lot when they are informed the motherboard has to be replaced, i should have just sent it into a repair shop in town for €25.
Well the flash ROM is soldered to the motherboard, if it is bricked, it would require a new motherboard.
It's probably not bricked, but in order to maintain your warranty, sometimes they say they must return it in "factory condition", which means unlocked. Which means a new motherboard. That's probably not really true in most cases, but once it's been unlocked, it's possible to overvoltage and overclock, which has the potential, however slight, to cause hardware damage.

they r very easy to flash
I'm very curious to see how HTC will replace the motherboard without causing dents in white polymer or screen damage, as we saw in ifix only with heat and a scalpel can be open the ONE.
Unless HTC repair center have an opening method that we dont know, they should give you a new device.

I sincerely hope you are right mate, I'd snap up a new device now.
I will report back anyway, if they come up with obscene charges I'll have to just leave it into a mobile repair shop here, i already went there and they said it would take a week and I thought that was too long but in retrospect I should have just left it with them.

Sorry when I said bricked it's just a term, i could get into recovery and I even relocked the bootloader so i tried all the various commands but i simply could not get anything to work, can't they just flash a ruu.exe for my device, i tried that myself but the ruu.exe in question was not compatible with my phone (earlier version)
What happens in an event that they fix it and then try and charge me and I refuse to pay or is it likely they'll be contact me first to inform me of this, and if i refuse to pay they'll just give me back the phone as it is?
I'm skint and haven't really got the money to pay for repairs, can afford a few quid but not over €100

iFixits teardown was flawed. If you pop the two speaker enclosures off there are screws that allow you to open the device.

Oh lord...... I hope that is true, in that case the chances of choosing the ONE increase to 95%, because I'd really like to have one.
Even i will not have the need to open it, I get psychologically rested with this subject.
thx.

Yup. The detachable speaker covers are the last seal in the assembly but iFixit acted under the assumption it's fully zero gap, so they broke it
Check the anandtech review discussing assembly :good:
is it possible to buy the speaker covers, i dented one of them :crying:

I haven't been able to find just the speaker covers But you can buy a ton of other parts here.
I'd bookmark it, they might add the speaker covers eventually. And who knows, if you're feeling adventurous maybe you can just do a color swap

Could you show me the path to that discussion, already searched on google and can't find.
thx.
If they have identified an issue with hardware then thats good for you as you'll get a new device and your flashing has not been identified as they issue..... Your lucky they're doing it under warranty.
Mate don't worry about sending it off I've done it before sometimes its delivered earlier than expected and had my screen replaced before and there was nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned...I was happy with the service some people may have different experiences

HTC repair centres vary by country. HTC usually employ a company to look at them. So each experience will be different.
