Hey guys so I made a huge booboo. I was using the nexus root toolkit 1.72. And I wanted to flash stock. I downloaded the stock files and tried to install but it said my baseband which was .33 was too old and needed .84. So I tried to flash the Google stock image. However when I did that I never backed up the previous cyanogen I was running. Now the phone is stuck in a Boot loop. When I try to go to recovery it doesn't allow me to. It brings up an android guy that's on his back with a red hazard symbol. Oh and also when I try to re install the Roms it won't work says adb isn't present but I have all the drivers. I can't put the phone into USB debugging because it won't turn on so its like I'm screwed no matter what. Do you guys have any idea how I can fix my bricked nexus 4? I'll do anything.

OK but how do I flash if I am unable to get into recovery? And my nexus root toolkit will not complete the flash correctly...I feel clueless right now which is strange because I've done this before on other phones.

it gets flashed via fastboot while youre in the bootloader. no root toolkit needed, the way its supposed to be done.

If the toolkit doesn't work {although in my case always saved me in trouble} check this guide for manually fixing your problem.

I feel kind of sick...
I hope someone can assist. I screwed up, big time.
I decided to full wipe my device and choose to flash stock using Toolkit. However, usb debugging isn't shown as being enabled (I think) and I'm unable to get back into a ROM to enable it, since fully wiping my entire storage.
I have tried reinstalling drivers on so many occasions, I've tried pushing files, using sideload. Nothing works. I literally cannot find a way to flash any rom onto the device. I have CWM recovery, but no way of getting zips onto the device. I cannot access usb debugging. Toolkit always reads the serial for fastboot but never shows any active devices for ADB.
I'm stumped and currently have no way of using my device.
I should've never tried to wipe it to begin with.
Thanks to anyone who might be able to assist. I'm sorry to burden you all.
if you can access via fastboot just flash your system.img to the phone with fastboot flash system system.img!
too bad google pulled the nexus 4 factory image
I have the factory image for the Nexus 4. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the link to it on my Drive.
Use the nexus 4 toolkit to download the stock image for the phone and use keys on phone to boot to fastboot. Then connect phone to your PC and run the nexus 4 toolkit. It should detect your phone in fast boot mode and allow you to flash stock rom

Where might I find my system.img? I've never needed to look for it before but would know how to flash it via fastboot if I could find it! :good: (as long as this would solve my issue?)

It doesn't actually download, despite attempting to. I'm not sure why.
Google pulled the files on Dec 12 hence no download. What toolkit are you using? The one from WugFresh has a link to the images on goo.im.

Many thanks man. The factory image worked like a charm. I didn't even have to extract it. I just flashed in via toolkit. I dropped the file into the put_google_factory_image_here folder and then flashed it using option 9. I'm so relieved to have a working device again.
Thanks to all that attempted to help my situation. I appreciate every effort made. Thanks for being so very patient.
Please feel free to use the thread to discuss similar matters further. I'm sure many in the future will find it very informative to refer to. It saved me and my N4 from a lifetime of despair! :good:

Cool. Glad to help!
Hi - I have had my Nexus for several months and its been great, using nightlies from CM and nothing too exotic.
Anyway - the latest nightly completely messed up my phone, can't make calls etc, so I tried to flash it back to a stable release - the problems were still there.
Then I tried another CM - and I entered the CM symbol on loop - so I knew something was wrong.
So I try for the complete factory image reinstall, I wipe EVERYTHING from the phone so all I have now is a blank phone.
So I can get into bootloader - I can get into recovery - but I can't do anything as there are no files on the phone (so recovery doesn't help).
I downloaded the Google Nexus 4 Toolkit - and when I try and connect the phone via USB - it can't even locate it - the program says "Waiting for device".
I'm a bit lost here lads! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
I'm not sure but similar thing happened to me with my S3, I was bricked for days, something I tried was UNrooting the device, completely wiping it clean with stock firmware and doing few other specific things for my device, maybe try flashing a stock Rom to get it alive again and once your into your device then you can flash whatever else you want, another good thing to do is always make a backup of your rom Inc efs files, but try this now you may be able to get the stock firmware from here or online, hope it helps

I had the same issue I installed the latest Samsung drivers onto the pc still had no joy and I'm sure I found a stock firmware from a site saved it to my external card n tried flashing it via recovery, it was ok after that, mine was an md5 file, try that also if it doesn't work with the drives, try using Odin, hopefully it should work, sorry I can't be more precise as my experience was with a different device, hopefully you'll get it working, gather as much information you can about unbricking, there's some videos on YouTube you may find one for your same device

If you're using the tool kit there is an option to install the drivers. That should be the first thing you do. Try a different cable or port or PC until you get the right combination and fastboot sees the device. Good luck

You should be in fastboot mode while you're trying to install the drivers, but follow the instructions in the toolkit. It's pretty much idiot proof.

I ended up searching for the drivers when I downloading the SDK from Google - seemed to recognize the Fastboot set up.
Then I followed these instructions to flash stock 4.3 on.

Hello forgive me if this is the wrong place on this forum for this topic.

Can someone help me. I want to go 4.3 and keep it stock, and rooted: )

Do it manually by downloading the Google factory images and flashing them yourself. Can either flash them through a toolkit like I did (which most people wouldn't recommend), or you can flash them yourself with fastboot. A quick search or look around will show you how to do it

You don't need udb debugging in fastboot mode. Flash the full factory image.
Nothing worked so far

Managed to flash full factory image.
When I flashed 4.3, its stucked at "Android is upgrading.... Starting Apps" screen.
When I flashed 4.2 its managed to boot successfully but I don't get the network coverage.
When i try to search network its "Error in searching network".
The baseband version is stated as unknown.
Reflash 4.3 and wait for the installation to finish. If it gets stuck on "Android is upgrading" just restart the phone. This time use THIS toolkit. it has always worked for me.
Me too did try flashing 4.3 again and again twice but still stuck up with x screen.

I too had this problem with my Nexus 4. I flashed the factory image (I tried with Android 4.2 and 4.3) with fastboot and I got exactly the same errors as you. I finally sent back my device to Google, the new one should arrive next week. I have no idea what can cause this problem :/
This thread is old, but if you have a problem with booting, you don't have to go unlocking bootloader and flashing anything if it can be fixed by just going into stock recovery and wiping cache or factory reset (you will lose apps data, but not data in your phone storage.)
Hold Power + Volume Down when the phone is off to go into "fastboot mode". Then use the Volume keys to navigate to Recovery. In there, press some combination of buttons of Volume and Power to bring up the menu (I forgot what the combination is, just fiddle around), then you can wipe cache or factory reset.
If even factory reseting doesn't help, you might need to unlock bootloader and flash factory firmware, but if you unlock the bootloader it will wipe the phone entirely and you will lose all your data. You can try to boot the phone and connect it to your PC, even if it doesn't boot fully there might be a chance MTP is loaded so you can copy files off.

You should do a factory reset in recovery before flashing. Follow the instruction here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312, and make sure you use the correct firmware image when flashing it.
So when I try to install the new 4.4 update it is stuck on the rebooting now screen, It has been there for 20 minutes. I am unlocked and rooted if that makes a difference. Also I tried to flash thunderkat and that also failed in twrp. I have no clue why. Just seeing if anyone might have an answer for my problem.

I had exactly the same, you must exit out of bootloop, factory reset then continue. WUGS NRT for N10 tells you to do it and how and when. I've only had this issue on N10, not my N7 or N4.

In the mean time, you can return to normal by reflashing the cm nightly/stable ROM you were running when you tried to update to 4.4. I had the same issue, but managed to reflash the stable cm 10.2 zip and my nexus began to function again.

Yes.
So? I backup myself and restore myself, using LAN file-server for small files and a USB drive for large files.
There is more time wasted in trying to keep data and settings than the time it takes to re-enter.
