[Q] Sudden wifi slowdown - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is running 4.3 rooted stock, i never had problems with my wifi speed before but it suddenly just slowed down yesterday. First, i thought that it was the wifi itself but my laptop and other devices were getting "normal" speeds. Is there something wrong with my n4? I hardly can send messages from messenger, loading a webpage takes too long etc. i do not want to do a factory reset as i only have 600+ mb storage left which means backing up would take a very very long time. How did this happen? Has anyone had this trouble before?

a factory reset doesnt touch your storage, only your user data.

same here, but any solutions to my problem?

try to forget the network on the phone and reconnect it or reboot the phone.

yup, if you just factory reset it only clears the user data. if you wipe the device, thats a completely different story.you can enable it in the phones settings, but your apps will restore themselves, plus much of their data.

Update to 4.1.2 waiting to download

Hi Guys,
I have a question about the update to version 4.1.2.
When I go to Settings > About > System update, I see that the update to 4.1.2 is found but it says that it is waiting to download but it stays like that forever and nothing happens.
Has anyone else seen such behavior? Do you know why it is happening and if it is normal?
Thanks!
Maybe a stupid question but... are you connected to WiFi when you see the message?

I also forgot to mention that I am fully stock, unrooted and locked.

Make sure you have a good WiFi connection. The WiFi in my dorm shows a good connection (String signal) but the internet can sometimes timeout easily. Make sure your connection to the internet is superb.

My connection is very good. For just in case, I put the Nexus besides the wifi router and still nothing happens.

Yes, I know what the arrows mean but my question is why this is happening? Is there a way for me to force the download? Or maybe I just have to wait more (it's been like this since yesterday)?
Try powering off the Nexus and then starting it up again. If that doesn't work, try using the technique to trick it into updating mentioned in this thread (yes, it's for a different situation but still worth a shot)

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. I tried powering off and on and it didn't work.
Then I tried the method to force stop the Google Services Framework and when I went to the System updates screen, I had the option to check for updates. I checked and I am back to where I was before - the update shows but is only "waiting to download"

Well, I bought the N7 recently and I want to see how it feels without rooting and custom roms. But later on, I will most probably unlock it.
Hi everyone. I have the same problem with the download. Mine N7 is also stock. Tried the method with the framework multiple times, tried to restart, tried another internet, still no luck in downloading. Any further suggestions?

Same issue here! I see the update, but it's waiting to download forever. Could this be connected to the location? Same as the the other guy I'm located in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Yeah, I'm starting to think the same, as I am in Sofia too.
Anyway, I could not find a solution, so I rooted and installed CM10, so no issue for me anymore.
Another one from Sofia. Waiting to download and after some time... unable to download.....

If you are rooted, I would do a nice backup and start fresh (factory reset).
Random bits of leftover data are usually what cause little annoying bugs like that. Also for the battery, use a wake lock app to see if any app/service is constantly waking up the device, and not letting it sleep

Nope , not rooted, never was. i update when the notification came and that is all. I did two resets and still the same.(all of them were "clean" resets , meaning i unselected the option to restore all my data.)

Hmm.. So you updated over WiFi? Like the ota? Since you have already reset, I would flash the phone stock 4.3 using either a toolkit you find here, or through fastboot if you have the know-how.
Because doing a wipe clears data, but if there is a problem with the actual system files you need to reflash it

[Q] System slowdown/lag during app installation/uninstallaton

Is this normal to n9005 or am I the only one experiencing this?

Isn't normal, unless it's a big app that is getting in/uninstalled. Or something is eating RAM/CPU at the same time, try a reboot.. If not factory reset usually does the trick.

Already tried factory reset but still the same - freeze/slowdown untill installation finished (the bigger the app the longer the freeze). Just want to know of users experiencing the same and if there's any known fix. I didn't mind this before but I now i am starting to worry if my unit is defective.
Haven't had it myself, and I cannot recall anyone posting regarding it within the last 7 weeks or so. So potentially you may have a faulty unit yes
Little lag yes, freezing not at all. If it's a small app, there's no lag either.

Internet unresponsive

Hello all. So I use my Nexus 4 as an internet device. I've been doing this for about a month, but today, my N4 is unresponsive on the internet. My WiFi is working, I can connect with my N5, N7 and my PC. Certain websites will eventually load, but not all. And some that load will display a blank screen with the website address in the address bar. I have rebooted several times. I toggled WiFi on/off. But it still will not load. Will this require a manufacturer reset? Thanks for any advice.
First try another browser. How about dolphin or chrome browser?

Google play is also unresponsive. The loading circle just spins. Earlier there was an app trying to update, got to 90% then stopped. It eventually did update though.

Im using my Nexus 5 as my main squeeze right now. The Nexus 4 is just another internet device when my N7 drops low on battery.
I want to confirm if there is something wrong with your radio signal. Maybe it isnt just your wifi.

I bet its not the phone but the router. have you tried turning off the router for 3 minutes, then turning it back on?

I believe you were spot on about that. I tried calling and SMS, all worked but still no WiFi activity. I did as you suggested and so far it worked. Thank you. Its just odd how all of my devices worked on my WiFi, but not my N4. Odd.

this thread, well almost identical to it, i must have read 50+ times over the last 6 years, lol. and the answer is almost always the router itself, where a simple reboot of the router fixes the problem

Galaxy S5 Randomly Corrupted

Monday morning my device working great. Then randomly my finger print scanner stopped working. I also noticed my SD card is no longer working, says it's corrupted and asking to format. I now have to access my phone via a pattern and for some reason it is VERY slow to show the screen after pressing the power/home buttons. I cannot install any applications, and alerts me my device is running out of storage even though there is 500MB+ remaining. It's now also very slow in response.
I tried checking the finger print scanner settings but alerts me that and error has occurred and to restart the device. - doesn't work..
I've had my device for two years and never has an issues.
Device is rooted but still has stock.
Model: SM-G900P
Kernal: 3.4.0-9634333
Android Version: 4.4.2
Software Version: G900PVPU1ANCB
I also want to mention that I got a text message the other day saying that I'm eligible for an upgrade from Sprint... Day later phone starts acting up. I'm sure restoring the phone or installing a custom rom might fix this, but I'm wondering what would cause this.
Thanks
Try booting into recovery and clearing the caches, often cures random problems like that
500Mb is not a lot... I would back up your SD contents, format it like its asking, then put your backup back on it, low space would certainly explain the lag and what not, not too sure about the fingerprint scanner though.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately that didn't work.
Perhaps it is some sort of virus or malicious attack on my device?

Didn't install anything. Really just use my phone for text, email, and calling. It's really bizarre. I think I'll just have to back up and restore or get a rom.
Thanks for the response.

Did you try my above suggestion? If you're open to it then yes, I would factory reset.

Resetting it to factory fixed all my issues.
Thanks everyone for the responses and helping out!
