Unbranded fro MI7 to MJ3 with stock odin - can I still root? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I apologize whole heartly for posting this noob question as it probably was answered already but I couldn't find the exact answer myself:
I updated my vodafone branded german n3 from MI7 to unbranded MJ3 downloaded from sammobile.com.
The flash was successful and everything, but then I read in different places (but without further exlanation) that with the new bootloader which is included in this MJ3, you can no longer root? Or does this only mean the RTDLV method with knox 0x0?
I can't live without root, so I need to know please, because if I can't root any longer now I will hve to get an exchange phone asap.
Please somone answer this one or me please.
(and if rootin mj3 with new bootloader is possible still, can this be done knox-friendly? in the rtdlv thread I didnt get an answer so pls apologize for asking here)

please someone answer shortly - I am very busy with work lately and this weekend I finally got some time to root and set everything up on my Note 3 - but if I ****ed it up by updating the firmware through stock odin I need to know so that I can get a phone exchange before it end up with Knox 0x1 or even worse a bricked phone.
I will be modding hardcore (while still remaining on stock) and will give all you guys tips n tricks that I will find out during this etc - but I just need to get initial root on my phone - preferably with Knox 0x0.

[Q] To update or not to update...

Hi All
Having had every previous version of the Galaxy S, I've finally gotten around to getting the S4.
I've been reading up on all of the extra security issues this device now has (a la Sony) and am disappointed that I can't be as flash happy as I like to be for fear of voiding the warranty.
Anyway, I'm on Vodafone UK and am running an old firmware, XXUAMDD. Kies is offering me an update to MGG, but I know this will lock the bootloader.
So I'm wondering if there is any point in upgrading now? Ideally I'd like to have 4.3 running, rooted and warranty still valid, but I think at the moment this may be asking too much.
Any views welcome please!
Cheers
Well my advice is simple , if it s not broken do not update. there are no differences between those 2 versions apart from having a locked bootloader and the pain in the ass knox.
The mgg firmware will also give you the ability to move apps to sdcard but foldermount is a better alternative that will work fine with your version.
Are you sure MGG has new bootloader? I don't think it does.....
Sent from my GT-I9505
yes mgg was the first one with the new bootloader . you can always refer to the knox questions and answers thread for various information about knox .

[Q] Is there a way to root MJ7 without breaking Knox ?

Hi !
I made a mistake... I flashed my brand new Note 3 with the latest unbranded firmware from sammobile (N9005XXUDMJ7) with Odin. Flashing was successful and everything works fine. But I made it before I even read something about rooting that phone... Now I know that MJ7 is very hard to root without breaking Knox Is there a possibility to reverse it back to MJ3 ? Or maybe there is a way to root with flag 0x0 ?
If there is no way to do this I must wait until somone much smarter than me find the way...

have a look here but read all i think its knox free
Thx for fast reply ! But in post from your link is written that this method will break Knox and will void waranty... (flag to 0x1)... I'am looking/waiting for clear way to root my phone and set CSC code to my country (XEO)... (I live in Poland but bought phone from UK because it was 30% cheaper...)

[Q] Does the official I9505XXUBMGA FW contain the KNOX bootloader?

I can't find a solid answer on this, so I was hoping someone here could help me.
I'm trying to find the latest, official, Polish firmware for my S4 which DOESN'T have the KNOX bootloader. I'm currently on I9505XXUAME2, so I don't have the nasty warranty flag, and I'd like things to stay this way.
Can someone give me a straight answer on this?
No. From the thread stickied a few above yours (which you should have read before posting): 'XXUDMGG was the first one'.

[Q] Questions about rooting my phone and the warranty.

Hello, I just joined this community
I switched from iPhone and got me a Samsung Galaxy S5(Canada model, Rogers carrier, SM-G900W8) a few weeks ago and I want to root it.
My question is, does rooting it void the warranty? And if for example I have it rooted and then after some time It suddenly breaks(hardware failure)
Does making a factory reset/unrooting or whatever leave any traces that it has been previously rooted so Samsung dosen't know and my warranty can still be valid?
Sidenote: On my rooted Asus TF300T, after unlocking the bootloader to install a custom ROM and root, every time it boots there is a message "This device is unlocked." on the top left of the screen...
I'm not very familiar with Samsung devices rooting but from what ive read rooting it could trigger KNOX?
Another thing... Does all of this also apply to switching Kernel?
I already searched a bit on this subject, it does answer on some of my points but partially, so if I broke a posting rule I'm sorry and take the necessary actions
Thanks in advance

That's because you didn't try looking for them. There are lots of answers in the forum, this question has in fact been asked and answered hundreds of times in existing threads. Had you read a few threads in the forum or did a Google search you'd had the answers yesterday. You say that you searched but your questions contradict that. Any reasonable search would have answered most if not all of your questions. If you really searched, tell us how and what you searched for.
Have an actual look and if you have any remaining questions after reading some existing threads, come back and we'll answer those questions.

I searched on Google + the forum's search bar and I haven't really found... Perhaps they were asked and stated differently?

Rooting with CF Auto Root will always trigger KNOX, this also goes for flashing a custom recovery or kernel. You need to downgrade to an older firmware version like ANE2 and then root with Towelroot. Then install SuperSU & BusyBox and after that Mobile Odin Pro (enable Everroot) and flash the latest firmware version and still keep root and KNOX on 0x0.

Thank you for the help, I will inform myself on this method! Any idea if this makes the device About > Status "Official" to "Modified"? And is it easily unrootable without leaving traces?

Install Triangle Away from Play to reset the system status and binaries to official.
Unrooting:
- Use TA to reset the status and binaries to official, check it in downloadmode.
- Unroot from within the superSU app
- Reflash the latest rom with PC Odin
- Data factory reset and you`re done.

I have the Bell Galaxy S5 and I rooted my phone with an app called Towelroot which won't trip knox. Now, if you want to install a custom recovery and custom rom on your phone, knox will be tripped but by rooting your phone with Towelroot, knox will still be 0x0

Hi Mike, search the forums before asking any questions. Search google. Don't expect everyone to do your job for you. Post your threads in the right section. This question has been asked and answered a million times and you'd know this if you took 5 minutes to search a little bit.
Here's your answer https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys5/comments/2ubsbs/guide_rooted_android_50_for_the_international/
out of curiosity, why dont you want to trip knox flag
"This question has been asked a million times and you'd know this if you took 5 minutes of your precious time to search a little bit."
Ironic for a man that follows people around *****ing at them to post in Q&A

What model do you have? Find out in phone settings in system / phone info. Sm-g900a has locked bootloader. I think verizon's phone also has a locked bootloader.
The link I gave you shows how to upgrade to lollipop, root it and keep knox 0x0.
Isn't that what you're looking for?

my bad, you did. 900f has an unlocked bootloader. when you upgrade to stock lollipop through OTA or Kies (or odin) it already includes bootloader and modem. When you do it the way described in that reddit link you flash the lollipop firmware, modem and bootloader separately. Apparently that method of updating needs it to be done so.
Honestly I have Knox 0x1 so I never cared for those methods, btw if you live in Germany then there's no need to care about Knox. In EU we're allowed to flash whatever we want and the guarantee stays intact even if you have Knox 0x1
ps. yes =p

Honestly, I don't know. That reddit link I gave you, I haven't read the guide myself. I just skimmed though it to be sure it was real but I don't know the details of it. Yes all G900Fs have an unlocked bootloader. :good:

Do you mean ota stock firmware notification? If yes then you will have it if Knox is still 0x0 if Knox however is 0x1 you will no longer be able to update via ota.
If you want to upgrade from KitKat to lollipop you must wipe data from recovery to avoid any issues. It is also not recommended by me to use titanium backup to restore apps because some might not be compatible with lollipop yet or some of the app data made for KitKat may have a conflict with lollipop system, however lots of apps have compatibility with lollipop and there is a chance you will have no issues at all when using titanium backup. Even if I said I don't recommend restoring data after such a major upgrade I do recommend having a backup whether it's with titanium backup or nandroid etc because you're able to restore apps one by one and make sure that what you restore won't be problematic.
Edit - if you update with flashfire app, there is an option to keep root when flashing from rooted KitKat to lollipop and users have reported that that feature does work for them (I personally haven't tried it).
