Hello everybidy as Froyo is just gona Release it will take ages for HTC to upgrade our Incredible and also we are missing on rooted OS.
The only solution to the date is asking HTC for Nexus One type SPL and which is perfectly as far as Legality and After Sale Service Issue is concerned as you Unlock SPL Warrenty is void.
Lets ask HTC to allot us new SPL like Nexus One which Support

You mean like the disclaimers in every custom rom thread, where people still manage to brick their phones, and then talk about taking them back to the store for a new one?
HTC doesn't even release legally-obligated kernel sources on time half the time, if you think they're going to go an extra step beyond that you're dreaming.

I believe they're talking about the disclaimer that you get when you unlock a nexus one. HTC will refuse to warranty most nexus ones if the bootloader is unlocked.... and thats the risk im willing to take
But you have to remember that Verizon will get say in that as well and they do not like people messing with their stuff. It's a long shot....

Actually, I already have the cdma nexus one hboot. But it's useless to us until we can flash to start. The version is pretty far from the HTC one as well so it's useless in our attempts. Stay patient.
Not to be a total retard, but is Froyo just a codename for Flash integration, or is it like an entire OS upgrade for the Android? Why would you say it would be ages until the HTC Incredible gets updated?

It's an entire upgrade for andriod, well from 2.1 to 2.2, but some good changes. HTC has to go through a ton of testing phases before releasing an upgrade so it usually takes them awhile and no question is a dumb question
I work for the mobile industry and have worked for the computer industry for years, and have never been one to believe the talk about obsolete devices soon after you buy them. It angers me that this incredible is my first Android and I can't root it like my friends who have the Droid and Nexus One, Dream, etc.
I'm almost tempted to take it back and get a diff android, but this damn phone is so cool.
Hey OP while were at it why dont we ask htc for a bigger screen too, heck maybe they can turn our phones into EVO's........ J/K

Root will happen. As is, this phone is far from obsolete. 2.2 still needs to be released on an actual device before its mature enough for daily use. Trust me, I went to 2.1 way too early on my last device and it sucked. Then 2.1 devices came out and all of the sudden it was good enough for daily use.

I agree. Not only does it enable things VZW disabled intentionally but it increases the chances for issues that can lead to unsatified customers and returns.
HTC probably wouldn't want to go against their customer who is VZW not us. We buy from VZW not HTC.
We just have to trust in our developer community and hope they are able to accomplish root in the near future. I believe every HTC Android device has been rooted in the past so why would the Incredible be any different.
I remember reading an artible about how the G1 would never be able to be upgraded to 1.6 and devs got that phone running 2.1 so I am hopeful
Just a FYI, I was on the phone with one of my friend HTC engineers, long distance from outside the USA, which he gave me some good gossip about the G2.
*Take it for what is worth. I do admit this my not be new info to some.
1) There is a OTA update coming for the G2 which will DEFINITELY cause you to loose root, and A LOT OF WORK has gone into the update to prevent rooting. Matter of fact, my HTC friend tells me that the encryption algorithm will almost make it impossible to root. My opinion, nothing is impossible!
2) BTW, there IS MAJOR development in up coming new tech with 3D displays. My little 'rumor mill' friend informed me that he seen a Android live wallpaper in 3D fire that looks so realistic that when you tilt the device forward, the icons actually go through the flames.
3) He told me that when the G2 was originally released, it was purposely done to make it hard to root, and now with the Gingerbread OTA update just around the corner (he said it may happen in July) by the time IF anyone figures out how to root it, the phone will be completely outdated.

I dunno, but its true that bootloaders and rooting are 2 separate things anyway. He's referencing rooting this latest stock GB rom, not unlocking bootloaders.

It seems there is an 'official' leaked rom out there that is digitally signed by HTC and also T-Morgul (misspending is applied) that after flashed, perm-root has not yet been achieved. Now the great devs that stripped the GB rom (from the raw, has rooted it), so you can flash a rooted version, but hasn't yet rooted after flash.

I would say he is lying, but after spending some time in the irc its not looking so good. They even blocked the fail safe goldcard method for downgrading. I think this is bad news being one of the first to receive a 2.3 device back from them I have tried everything to help get this thing rooted hope there is a way to root it soon before all the devs leave for newer devices.

But just to put some things straight:
- The goldcard to downgrade method also needed temp-root to change the main version in the misc-partition.
- At the moment we do not have a working temp-rooting method for gingerbread (besides gingerbreak but this has been patched in our version)
- We are not working on a new temp-root very urgent but this will change

well if you think about it, if GB update from htc has been in development for the past 6 months (with specific configurations for different phones). and during this development phase they're stance was to still lock rooting and bootloaders. it would be near impossible to get a release June/July with a different development path based on the statement by the CEO.
either they will push back the OTA update, or roll out and meet the deadlines with their current path and with other phones already getting updates the past few months. I would say they're rolling it out with just configuration testing and QA on our phones
Why not just do this...sell rooted devices and locked devices. Or just sell all devices rooted. Lets face it most people now with android phones have no clue what the os is capable of and buy it off of hype.

I dont think they can just ota overwrite the custom rom. When you have a custom rom you dont receive the other ota updates why would you receive this one.

So the S3 is showing up with a locked boot loader. The only carrier on the planet doing that. Why? I've heard all sorts of silly excuses from Verizon apologists but ... The recently released HTC Incredible 4G has just been unlocked using the HTC developer site unlock tool. It seems they really don't have a valid reason or they would have forced HTC to lock the 4G down (HTC is hurting very badly financially and is much more likely to have to kiss V's butt that megacorp Samsung).
Flip side: Maybe it's high time for a company that doesn't need to kiss butt, with arguably the worlds most popular phone on their hands, to do something like HTC and make a developer unlock tool. That would make them the heros and add even more positive spin on the phone and the company.

I think with how huge the S3 is compared to the INC4G, they maybe wanted to treat it differently. Besides, not all is lost. Looks like Samsung left a few doors open. The situation doesn't look nearly as bleak as Motorola phones.
I mean..people have only had it a few days and look what we've got so far with the bootloader situation: root and a workaround for custom kernels. Things will come. I think people are just being really impatient because a lot of people don't have it yet and all the excitement, anticipation, hate for Verizon, and anger about the situation is festering and people are causing an uproar much too early.
I'd say if things are still looking bleak after a month or so, you'd have the right to be upset. Definitely not a few days after SOME people get it. At least wait until it's been officially available for a week
Good question! All I know is right now I am enjoying my stock S3. But I am on ATT. I guess last month when I was looking to leave Sprint I made the right choice huh? GSM forever for now! LTE or not!

It's likely a combination of a few things. Locked bootloaders allow them to get you to purchase more phones as upgrades slow down. But in their defense, a significant portion of users with custom ROMs that allow bad software (not really sure what) could actually be harmful to the network. Their product is the network, they don't really care about the few percentage of people that actually care about this stuff.
Which sucks for us.

Not rootable? no custom roms? Since its CDMA and NOT GSM, there is no "unlock" to use on another network? I'm a little confused (and an android noob)

Basically, when we say locked we mean encrypted. Pretty much every phone comes with a locked bootloader, it's just often easy to unlock.
When you boot up a phone, the bootloader is the first thing that loads. It checks signatures of whatever ROM you have, in some cases. This is called a signed bootloader. So you'd have to have a ROM/kernel/whatever signed with the same signature as the bootloader-- i.e., Samsung, in this case. You can sometimes spoof this key, but this bootloader is encrypted, on the SGS3. When a bootloaderis encrypted, it is pretty much impossible to fool, and it becomes very hard to load custom software on the device.

You can still flash custom roms I believe but no custom kernels until the boot loader is unlocked. It also makes other mods and recoveries a pain to install and run....it's mainly just a pain in the ass.

Agreed. Unlocked bootloader = easy root = tether apps run = more drain on the network = greater expense for the carrier. People who run modded roms and kernels tend to hold on to their phones longer, carrier may be losing money.

The fault in your logic is that tethering is included in the shared data plans now. Anyone on these new plans can use it which I would guess could soon outnumber those who root and tether.

Good news about the custom ROMs. I suppose this means that the phone may be rooted, so wireless tethering and nice programs such as Titanium Backup are possible. But, what is the additional advantage of having a custom kernel? Is that something to really look forward to?

I have been looking for an answer on the question whether the Developer edition of the HTC ONE. Some sources said it is some said it is not S-off. So I decided to do some investigation myself. Contacted HTCDev, and got this as a response:
The second question it is answering whether I would be able to flash a T-Mobile radio on the phone...
I thought this might be useful info for all.

Asked the question again, same site, same question, different answer...guess we will only know next week.

so what is the point of purchasing the "developer edition?" other than it being a 64GB device? this is totally effed...
You also get unbranded firmware and update quicker.
It is not designed for developing roms, it is designed for developing programs. Rooting and installing custom roms invalidates the warranty on any HTC one, including the dev edition.

Before I get my head ripped off asking what appears to be a silly question, what is S-off? I gather by your reactions the HTC One I bought on pre-order at the HTC.com website has a security feature that by default is turned on and not off? So what there is another layer of security that must be unlocked to flash custom ROMs? I'm putting my wife into this device given her line of work...medical migrating from Windows Phone 7.8 so forgive me if I am not entirely up to speed on all things Android. Thanks!

It is not required to flash custom roms. It is required to change certain items in the phone such as the country code. It is turned on by default until someone figures out how to hack the phone.

Most people don't need S-Off, it allows you to brick your device, and more importantly to relock it so that HTC don't know you've put custom ROMs on it for warranty purposes.
On the One X it would have been useful to flash updated firmware so that JB ROMs could be installed on carrier phones before the carriers bothered to get round to validating the update, but that's a fairly rare scenario.
It also allows you to flash different radios, but again, it's pretty rare that's required.
So yeah, other than those rare scenarios and AT&T phones who prevent the phone from being bootloader unlocked via htcdev.com, it's not needed if you just want to flash custom ROMs or lie to HTC.
I don't think flashing radios is a rare scenario... I've done it a dozen times on my One XL.
I want s-off to see if we can flash a T-Mobile radio on dev edition to enable all T-Mobile bands.

Hi i have the galaxy s4 from verizon but it's actually on ebay trying to sell it because i bought the LG G2 and it's arriving today but i see that there is really only 1 decent ROM out which is CleanRom. I was wondering when CM and AOKP will be coming so i can customize my navigation buttons too and a whole bunch of other features. I havent followed up on the unlocking/rooting but when was root/recovery achieved for this device?

The bootloader hasn't been unlocked yet and I spoke with someone close to AOKP last week on Reddit and he said that none of the maintainers will be getting G2's but since the Nexus 5 will be built off of the G2, that there may be some compatibility. So it'll be a while. The N5 isn't even out yet.
We also don't have kernel source yet which makes any CM or AOKP base kinda hard to get running.
Development for anything non-nexus or locked bootloader is going be slow. This phone is brand new, however this is a concern coming from a Nexus with all the latest updates. I will be patient and happy for now, but the flasher in me and the ability to have full control over my own device is a little......sobering.

This phone has LOKI, which means business as usual for custom ROMs and kernels.
Locked bootloader means nothing at this point, except bragging rights for saying they got it unlocked (if they unlock it, which I think will happen someday, but make no mistake this is not stopping development)

I'm planning on getting a G2 and Nexus 5 for Sprint as soon as I can swing both. Bringup will take some time but probably not as long as other devices, especially if we can get started based on CAF.

garwynn! Good to see you're planning to pick up a G2. I made the move from our beloved E4GT to the G2 myself, but also moved to AT&T. I finally had enough of Sprint's data network being so far behind.

Seems Sprint phones get a lot of dev support, maybe when it's released on Sprint it will pick up.
CM/AOSP bring up is already in progress. I don't foresee anything being particularly difficult to get a basic CM build up and going in pretty short order. I'll be getting the Verizon version later today but won't have time to really start helping until next week.

You have no idea how happy I am that you are on the case, especially with a Verizon G2. You did great work on the HP TouchPad, can't wait to see what you can do with the G2!
Isn't the nex5 basically the g2 but with a crappier camera?

Do you know the main PIC of that effort? Even if I have to hold off on getting it I'm more than willing to do whatever I can to help Sprint users. We always seem to need a little love on devices..

I'm lucky being here in Chicago for Sprint, the G2 and Nexus 5 should be in prime shape to take advantage of Tri-band LTE. I'm not feeling the love from Samsung and I know I need the Nexus 5 for AOSP projects. Maybe I'll wait and see if someone sells a G2 over the holidays.

Very cool, thanks for the hard work.
This is good to hear, I've been eyeing the G2 but am reluctant to leave my S4 because of the Google edition ROM working so well. Will be watching to see what progress is made
