Ultimate Throttling Prevention - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Those who have T-Mobile (which I use) or any other IP probably get throttled on a daily basis and the only way I could counter this is to use a VPN called Private Internet Access at privateinternetaccess.com and works flawlessly. Also your internet use is completely encrypted so they can't track what you are doing which causes the throttling on popular sites like YouTube, Hulu, Facebook, and others. Very cheap as well for 35 bucks a year. They don't store your uses ether so nothing can come back to you if you are a torrent user like me (no logging). Works great on my G2 via app from play store made by them. Also can change location and can be used on your PC as well (multiple devices).
Happy Surfing!

Xperia X10 with no data?

I found a used Xperia X10, I called the seller and he claims it is unlocked, and that ATT won't see it as a smartphone or whatever. I want the phone, but I want to make sure that ATT won't charge me randomly for data. So can I opt out of Data, or cancel data on the line if I get the phone. Is there a way I can get the phone, put in my SIM card and only use the calling and texting that I've been using currently on my Samsung Impression?
Thanks in advance!
zxd3
You could turn off data or change your internet settings so there not the one from your carrier. This would stop the phone accessing the internet but still allow it to function as a phone.
But what's the point of a smartphone without internet?
Mainly because I like to consolidate all my devices into one gadget. So that I don't have to carry around a camera, phone, and iPod, and instead just carry around one thing. Secondly I don't wanna pay for data rofl
I've got an unlocked x10 that I bought in may and as soon as att announced that their x10 was about to be on sale, I got a text from them saying that my phone required the smartphone data plan. Now I was already using the media net data plan, so not sure whether they still make you get a data plan if you have none, but I know that they will recognize the phone and your only option for data is the 25 bucks for 2gb smartphone plan.

That's what I'm worried about, will ATT still charge me for data if I get the phone, even though I won't use data.

No, they won't/can't.
And you can still use the smartphone functionality over Wlan, like syncing contacts, calendars and so on.
Wtf Stop being a cheap ass buy a damn data plan how old are you 12?

If you want to carrying around a device that does everything cheaply then get a Nokia. Use your brain, x10 is a phone to interact with social media..this isn't 10years ago!

thanks ddewbofh that's exactly the answer I needed.
Before u start using the x10 call att and have them put on a data block. That should stop them from charging u for the plan and u from accidentally using data.
Hope this helps

The X10, well Android in general, does a couple of pretty neat things that makes life easier even without a cellular data connection.
For example: My social life is centered around Google as far as mail, calendars and contacts go. Google calendar makes keeping track of multiple schedules and planning events much easier. Same goes for email and my address book. As soon as my phone has internet access I can have those synced automatically with my phone and vice versa.
It's not something earth-shattering but not having to do that manually is pretty convenient. I'm sure Nokia can do something similar with an exchange server or Gmail's servers but Android handles it really well with all the features you have on the "full" versions. If you use Google's services a lot then getting an Android phone is just logical.
I think I will probably do the data block thing AND debrand the phone, just to make sure. And yes, alot of the things I do are google central, calendars, mail(ALOT OF MAIL), contacts, docs, a lot of stuff... so it's worth it for me.

Yay or nay

There is a company called simple mobile. (www.mysimplemovile.com) that signed a MNVO (Moile Virtual Network Operator AKA re sells Tmobile serice) i am current paying 95 a w tax for unlimited text talk data. My vibrant is unlocked. Why dont pursed simple mobile service (is uses tmobile towers so i wont be loosing out on anythgin) It was cost me 60 a month including tax for the SAME EXACT THING IM GETTING NOW. What do you guys say go for it?
here is a refrence link
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Simple-Mobile-Announces-MVNO-Deal-with-T-Mobile-USA-138401.shtml
Ive had simple mobile for about 8 or 9 months now, and couldnt be happier. its exactly what tmobile is, except cheaper price. its great service, in my opinion. oh and btw, you dont need to unlock the vibrant to work on simple mobile, any tmobile phone works. only unlock it if its a att phone.
im very glad to hear that. i would be sving roughly 40 bucks a months. in 5 months i would have my early terminate fee paid off and then be saving fourty bucks on from there. im main question is 1. does asurion still offer warrnty for us like they do through tmboile. and 2 is there anything u can think of that you can do on tmobile that you CANT on simple mobile?
1-Not sure if they do.
2-Cant think of nothing. Only thing tmobile has that simple mobile doesnt is pretty much phones. You have to bring your own phone. Other then that, nothing really.
I have used simple mobile for about 6 months, the only difference between tmobile and simple mobile is that you can't add calls to call while you are talking (if that makes sense), besides that its great!

I haven't heard about this company, so I did a quick google search. I came up with an article at the Consumerist web site. It sounds like they resell T-mobile service, but they have a lower cap than T-mobile, and it is a hard cap vs a soft cap. So, once you hit the cap, they stop your data.
At least with T-mobile, If you hit the cap, they just slow you down, not cut you off completely.

Sounds like the limit is a bit ambiguous but it does state that they will slow you before they disconnect you. Tethering is not allowed.
1. Permissible and Prohibited Data Uses
Your Data Plan is intended for Web browsing, messaging, and similar activities on your device and not on any other equipment. Unless explicitly permitted by your Data Plan, other uses, including for example, tethering your device to a personal computer or other hardware, are not permitted.
Examples of prohibited uses include but are not limited to: (a) server devices or host computer applications, including continuous Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, automated machine-to-machine connections or peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing applications that are broadcast to multiple servers or recipients, "bots" or similar routines that could disrupt net user groups or email use by others or other applications that denigrate network capacity or functionality; (b) as a substitute or backup for private lines or dedicated data connections; (c) any activity that adversely affects the ability of other users or systems to use either Simple Mobile's services or the network-based resources of others, including the generation or dissemination of viruses, malware or "denial of service" attacks; (d) accessing, or attempting to access without authority, the information, accounts or devices of others, or to penetrate, or attempt to penetrate, Simple Mobile's or another entity's network or systems; or (e), running software or other devices that maintain continuously active Internet connections when a computer's connection would otherwise be idle, or "keep alive" functions. For example, you cannot use a Data Plan for Web broadcasting, or for the operation of servers, telemetry devices and/or supervisory control and data or (f) engaging in atypical web usage behavior.
2. Protective Measures
To provide a good experience for the majority of our customers and minimize capacity issues and degradation in network performance; we may take measures including temporarily reducing data throughput for a subset of customers who use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth. Additionally, in the event that a customer is in violation of the Permissible and Prohibited Data Uses listed above, we may reduce your data speed for the remainder of that billing cycle or terminate data service without notice or refund. We may also suspend, terminate, or restrict your data session, Plan, or service if you use your Data Plan in a manner that interferes with other customers' service, our ability to allocate network capacity among customers, or that otherwise may degrade service quality for other customers.

[Q] Anyone using Google Wallet on at&t having issues?

There are about 3 threads on here for GW and T-Mobile, but none I can see specifically for at&t.
My issue is that GW is only working at Walgreens for me. I've tried it at Meijer, Toys R Us and McDonalds, all of which do take pay pass, and the app either doesn't work at all our won't go past the first tap. If I get to the first tap, it'll either stick on the spinning wheel or give me an error that it recognized the first tap but to have the cashier restart the transaction. Now, when I use it at Walgreens, it's fast and 100% working.
My GW is all set up and i can see all my cards, so it is working (to a point) technically. Any thoughts, ideas? Anyone else in my boat?

I'm not on AT&T but I'm starting to think this is a hardware issue. I had a problem similar to yours - I used GW to pay for something at a pharmacy, no probs. Day later, tried at a convenience store, didn't go through. Even tried twice. Since then, any time I open GW, I get stuck at the "spinning wheel" you mentioned.
Some people have no problems with GW on Tmo and AT&T, and some have problems.
Guys, gw does not require a data connection, or any connection for that matter. Here's how it works.
1)Registering your C.C. on GW.
2) GW actually links a different CC used by their company to your cc you have on your account
3) when you use it to pay, your phone is sending the linked (or made up company credit card that represents your personal card(on googles side) info through the terminal> goes to GW's company and from there they charge your personal card.
So really, everything is processed on googles side. No need for a connection.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I know that GW makes a dummy MC CC that gets charged at the terminal, but did not know that no data connection is needed. So then the problem is either bad software or faulty hardware. Since I can pay for things just fine at Walgreens, I'm guessing it's GW software then.

data plan for nexus 7?

Could people share what data plans they use in the UK on their Nexus? I would probably prefer pay as you go rather than a contract. It seems quite difficult to choose.
Hi there,
Probably im not the best person to help you in this regard. Im from Portugal and i use a monthly plan from Vodafone that gives me free calls, sms, and 150mb per month, my N7 is wifi only, so i use my ace as a wifi hotspot, needless to say that with this plan i barely download anything, i use it only for social apps like tapatalk, Facebook and such. It all comes down to what use you are about to give to it. But i can tell you that my 150mb barely get to the end of the month lol. And i rarely web browse with it.
Like i said, since i am from a different country this could not help at all.

Thanks a lot for the comment anyway. I was thinking about buying a Wi-Fi only Nexus, but decided against it. First of all, tethering is not allowed in my plan, so there is a risk that the operator might block my internet access if even only temporarily. Also tethering is quite battery consuming. Also the price difference is not that big and with PAYG plan I hope to use 3G only when I don't have access to Wi-Fi.

In Portugal the diference resides in 50€ more. Quite a raise.
I agree with you though, tethering is a battery drainer.

[Q] Tethering without carrier (3UK) knowing?

Hi guys,
I'm sending back my iPhone 5S to Apple tomorrow (terrible battery life!).
I'm thinking of purchasing a Galaxy Note 3 when I get my refund through.
Now my only concern here is the fact I will lose the TetherMe application.
I'm on a 3UK PAYG plan for £15 a month and I get All You Can Eat data.
However, because I'm not on the One Plan I am not "allowed" to tether.
Please do not reply to this thread to say "solution: get the one plan" LOL!
TetherMe spoofed it to make it look like data was coming from your phone.
I actually got away with TetherMe for 2 weeks and they still didn't block me.
Is there an application on Android that will do pretty much the same thing?
I'm not just looking for a hack that enables tethering. I want to hide it too.
I understand PDANet has a "Hide Tethering" feature. How effective is it?
To clarify, if 3UK detect tethering they'll redirect all browsing to this page:
"Are you using your phone as a modem or personal hotspot?" Familiar?
I'd show you a screenshot of this precise page, only I can't post links.
Anyway, as crappy as the iPhone battery is, I will really miss TetherMe.
But I've decided I can't have a phone that dies every 4-5 hours either.
Well I've never had an issue tethering anything on Vodafone UK. Android has the functionality built in. But in terms of the block, I'm assuming it's looking at browser user agent. If you spoof your browser, (firefox has addons) that will probably work, if it's looking at protocols, you just won't be able to use bit torrent etc. Don't take my word for it though. Just a few ideas.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
TetherMe on iPhone worked without spoofing the browser's user agent.
Meaning to say I used it just as I would use any normal desktop internet.
Even downloaded windows updates and updates to Ubisoft games on it.
I don't want to make my 24 inch PC screen load mobile pages for sites lol!
And based on the above I'm not entirely sure that user agents come into it.
I'm guessing they can tell with their own software. Maybe flashing a stock btu (non 3 branded rom). A mate of mine has never been detected by 3. He does use blutooth tethering mainly to save battery apparently. Not sure if this prevents the detection?

To be fair, I don't know "why" TetherMe worked, but I do know that it "did" work.
I'm wondering whether anyone has had any luck with sneaky Android tethering.
I mean, on iPhone, the native tethering feature is enabled by default anyway.
But try and use it and you get redirected to that page on their site. It's useless.
But with a jailbroken iPhone with TetherMe installed: that's a very different story.
I was delighted/surprised by just how much I got away with when using TetherMe.
There are a gazillion android apps and hacks to "enable" tethering.
But my concern is how many actually work without carrier detecting.
TetherMe works. But TetherMe isn't available on Android, only iPhone.
Before I got the one plan and tethering part of my plan, I was tethering for well over year probably closer to 2 without any problems, despite it "not being allowed" as long as you don't take the p£&@ you'll be fine, from my experience anyway.

Do you tether often? Are you a heavy user or just an occasional light browser?
Of course I'm a heavy user who likes to stream stuff like Netflix on unlimited.
Obviously my home internet isn't unlimited hence why I resort to the mobile.
Also, is this with the native tethering feature or do you use a hack or a VPN?
Native WiFi hotspot in notes setting and light to medium rethering I would guess, mainly when our virgin router goes down ... So maybe twice a month but then it would be hammered for those times.
The wife tethered a whole season of sons of anarchy the other Sunday with no issues.

As I said above: "Please do not reply to this thread to say "solution: get the one plan"
I have my reasons. This post wasn't helpful.
Most, if not all UK telecom giants won't offer tethering on PAYG, for whatever reason they don't let us know. - There used to be a few apps around that can get around the tethering but when I tried I got the msg about 30minute disconnect etc. -- While you may have your reasons for not going contract, it would seem the One Plan is the only option that you can actually use for it.

There are hacks that work. TetherMe is a classic example but TetherMe is only available on iOS.

But yes, in terms of native tethering and hacks that don't work properly, yes, tethering is blocked.

Hi guys,
I have a Note 3 and I'm using Three Mobile UK with All-you-can-eat data. Since the beginning of the year, I've been using an official Poland ROM, which was the first one I got with Android 5.0 and I just kept it because my tethering was not being detect since then.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to change my ROM with one based on the Note 5 and this was very good, but unfortunately the tethering have started to be detected. I've tried everything that I could think of, but nothing would hide the tethering from Three.
I got feed up with it and went to find out what Rom did I have before, which I did. I went then to SamMobile and downloaded the same ROM I had before, installed it and it the tethering immediately stopped being detected
All this say that according to my experience, the best thing to do is to install a foreign official ROM in your android if you want to hide your tethering. The Poland one works for me, but probably some others would work as well.
Once installed, you just need to change the language to English and that's it. Simple as that!
