[Q] SeLinux enforcing should i be worried? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry for n00b question guys... i receently updated to 4.3 on my I9500 S4 with out any problems everything is booted up and smooth
but why does the selinux state enforcing? what does it mean? should i be worried? or just ignore it?
Thanks!

Nope
There's no point in worrying now - you can't go back! There currently is no way of downgrading from firmware 4.3 as Samsung have locked the bootloader with that update. If you're happy with that and don't miss any of the 4.2.2 features, then it won't be a problem for you.

im not bothered about that but what if there is a new 4.3 update with more changes i can always update that yea? and will it always be on 'ENFORCING' now?
so all 4.3 updates are set to enforcing?

Would also really like to know. Read over in other forums you can change it back to permissive and I'm guessing you need root for this and a little more so a bit out of my comfort zone with beyond root, so is it gonna be a problem down the line?

[Q] Galaxy S4 i9500 updating to 4.3

Hi, i have been reading 4.3 update for my version of galaxy s4 and i have a couple of questions. Is it recommended to do this update?(i have version i9500). Is knox included in 4.3 update? I mean, i only read that knox bootloader is for i9505 so far...
PD: My current android version is 4.2.2 JellyBean (Official firmware)
Thanks you in advance
Get one thing straight, this 4.3 is an official update, so yes, you should upgrade. Yes, Knox is included. There will be loads of nuisance saying don't upgrade and all, but stop paying attention to clueless comments.
1. If you have a rooted device would suggest you to a wait as many people with rooted devices don't want the 4.3 update. Else you can definitely update to 4.3.
2. Yes obviously 4.3 includes the Knox for i9500 as well.

Isn't there a downside of having Knox? Btw, has anybody tried out the unknown firmware yet? Should i perform a factory reset if i decide to update my phone via ODIN(There's no update for my country yet)?
Thanks you in advance

I don't really know, it is put there by Samsung for a reason. If you don't like Knox stuffs then you can disable/freeze them via Titanium.
You can download Indian 4.3 ROM and flash it via Odin. I don't know whether it'll wipe your device or not, but it's an official ROM, so I guess it should not wipe your data. Still, to be safe, make a full backup of your phone via Titanium or any software of your choice.

I heard that u can't root the device if u have Knox bootloader, so i dont think Titanium will work. Did u already update your GS4? If so, how's the overall functionality?

There's a way around, and it's pretty simple. Just look under general section, there's a topic by Degraded Shadow (sorry if I misspelled).
No, I have not flashed 4.3 yet, only one reason, I use a custom kernel, and I know that kernel is having a typical wakelock problem at the moment, when it's fixed I will flash 4.3. I am excited by the users feedback though, lots of people said lot less lags in camera and gallery, the device feels smoother overall and finally a true full screen browser and all.....all are users reviews, not mine
Is it safe to upgrade my i9500 to 4.3, because i heared some problems of battery draining , overheating and some other problems, im still on 4.2.2 MG9 build, is it safe to upgrade and not be afraid of having any problems ?

Upgrading to 4.3

Hi guys,
First time poster to the forum.
I am currently on a i9500 international s4 with the stock rooted 4.2.2 rom using the latest perseus kernel to overclock to 1.7ghz. If I upgrade to 4.3 with the samsung roll out will it cause any problems and will I have to reroot?

no problem with upgrading to 4.3, you need to reroot after if you want
Wouldn't recommend it unless you want a knox bootloader.

No, you can't go back. So unless you don't want to root and or flash custom roms, stay away from the official firmware.

Question is, is there something you need in 4.4.2 and not got it in 4.3? When not I would stay on 4.3.
Some changes in KitKat are the lower RAM, better Battery (a lot better), some security things and a lot of other changes in the background
is there a changelog for 4.4.2 somewhere?

Sorry mate ,
Samsung only gives a changelog number , no a changelog list.......the higher the number the higher the change

Yes but this are all small changes. The permission of writing to SD Card is also a bit different. But I would upgrade
I didn't felt any better battery drain after upgrading to 4.4.2.
Unfortunately, after upgrading to Kitkat I experienced a lot of problems in the camera and screen.
Now I'm using custom rom and developer options to solve these problems.
BTW, my device is I9500.

Yes I rooted it. I installed custom recovery, philz touch recovery, and than it autochecks if you got root when you leave it, so you have to apply or not if you want it or not.
doing this you tripped knox, isnt 'it?

Exatly it tripped the f***** Knox, but I wont use the Knox app so it isn't a problem. My garanty is also over so there is no point not to do it that way. Towelroot don't tripps knox, but the in the newer firmwares towelroot don't work anymore

[Q] SELinux help? (kitkat 4.4.4)

Hey everyone, I'm fairly new here but I have a Samsung S4 SGH-I337 running kitkat 4.4.4 from AT&T.
I recently rooted my s4 with towelroot and everything went okay, but now I'm trying to find a way to turn SELinux from enforcing to permissive. I've tried the SElinux mode changer and wanam xposed but both of them weren't able to switch SElinux to permissive. Most of the threads I read said I should find a new kernel with the SELinux set to permissive but all the kernels I've found so far are for kitkat 4.4.2 or jellybean 4.3
Also liked I said, I'm pretty new to this thing and I wanted to know would the kernels for the t-mobile sprint and global s4 work on my AT&T model? I looked them up and it does seem they have different model numbers so I don't want to try flashing it just to end up bricking my phone.
I'm trying to get my phone to mirror with my AppRadio3 through chromecast. I've gotten it to mirror and everything works except for touch, which I'm thinking is due to SElinux being set to enforcing. If anybody could help I would greatly appreciate it!

Ah I didn't know the kernel couldn't be rooted. I followed the instructions from droidviews to root my phone but if I can't do anything with the kernel then it looks like I'm out of luck
Is there any way to downgrade my s4 from kitkat 4.4.4 to something else like kitkat 4.3 or jellybean 4.2? I've seen some tutorials on how to downgrade from 4.4.2 to jellybean, but I haven't been able to find a tutorial on how to downgrade from 4.4.4

Yes check the general thread regarding Odin to stock. I downgraded to nb1 but some people care about tethering. Not sure which one allows tethering.

Oh okay, I'll go read up on that before trying to downgrade my phone. I used odin in one of the steps to root my phone but its probably a whole different process to downgrade it. Also thanks for your fast replies, you've been really helpful I really appreciate it!

Hi guys,
I want to update my phone to lollipop 5.1.1. but my phone is rooted. So I unrooted my phone and flashed 4.4.2 on my phone and tried to take an OTA update but it wouldnt let me.(because of the tripped KNOX counter i think)
Is it safe to you just flash 5.1.1. on top of it? Or do i need to do anything special?
Please help.

This may sound like an odd question, but is your phone a retail or developer version? Considering the developer version is the only that's been able to rooted, I had to ask.

Not that i know off, i just bought it at a store. It the 910F. And im currently on Kitkat so wouldnt know.
You can still get OTA even with tripped knox as long as your phone is not rooted. You can try factory reset if its ok with you setting up your phone again.
It's also safe to just flash 5.1.1 over your existing kitkat rom.

Thanks, I flashed 5.1.1. on top of it and everything is working fine now. I was scared that it might bright my phone if i flashed on top of it so everything is fine now!
