Question is, is there something you need in 4.4.2 and not got it in 4.3? When not I would stay on 4.3.
Some changes in KitKat are the lower RAM, better Battery (a lot better), some security things and a lot of other changes in the background
is there a changelog for 4.4.2 somewhere?

Sorry mate ,
Samsung only gives a changelog number , no a changelog list.......the higher the number the higher the change

Who doesn't need a better battery?
I have the same question weather or not to update
but I'm hesitant because some people say their battery life got worse!
How much better is the better?

Yes but this are all small changes. The permission of writing to SD Card is also a bit different. But I would upgrade
I didn't felt any better battery drain after upgrading to 4.4.2.
Unfortunately, after upgrading to Kitkat I experienced a lot of problems in the camera and screen.
Now I'm using custom rom and developer options to solve these problems.
BTW, my device is I9500.

Yes I rooted it. I installed custom recovery, philz touch recovery, and than it autochecks if you got root when you leave it, so you have to apply or not if you want it or not.
doing this you tripped knox, isnt 'it?

Exatly it tripped the f***** Knox, but I wont use the Knox app so it isn't a problem. My garanty is also over so there is no point not to do it that way. Towelroot don't tripps knox, but the in the newer firmwares towelroot don't work anymore

Hi, i have been reading 4.3 update for my version of galaxy s4 and i have a couple of questions. Is it recommended to do this update?(i have version i9500). Is knox included in 4.3 update? I mean, i only read that knox bootloader is for i9505 so far...
PD: My current android version is 4.2.2 JellyBean (Official firmware)
Thanks you in advance
Get one thing straight, this 4.3 is an official update, so yes, you should upgrade. Yes, Knox is included. There will be loads of nuisance saying don't upgrade and all, but stop paying attention to clueless comments.
1. If you have a rooted device would suggest you to a wait as many people with rooted devices don't want the 4.3 update. Else you can definitely update to 4.3.
2. Yes obviously 4.3 includes the Knox for i9500 as well.

Isn't there a downside of having Knox? Btw, has anybody tried out the unknown firmware yet? Should i perform a factory reset if i decide to update my phone via ODIN(There's no update for my country yet)?

I don't really know, it is put there by Samsung for a reason. If you don't like Knox stuffs then you can disable/freeze them via Titanium.
You can download Indian 4.3 ROM and flash it via Odin. I don't know whether it'll wipe your device or not, but it's an official ROM, so I guess it should not wipe your data. Still, to be safe, make a full backup of your phone via Titanium or any software of your choice.

I heard that u can't root the device if u have Knox bootloader, so i dont think Titanium will work. Did u already update your GS4? If so, how's the overall functionality?

There's a way around, and it's pretty simple. Just look under general section, there's a topic by Degraded Shadow (sorry if I misspelled).
No, I have not flashed 4.3 yet, only one reason, I use a custom kernel, and I know that kernel is having a typical wakelock problem at the moment, when it's fixed I will flash 4.3. I am excited by the users feedback though, lots of people said lot less lags in camera and gallery, the device feels smoother overall and finally a true full screen browser and all.....all are users reviews, not mine
Is it safe to upgrade my i9500 to 4.3, because i heared some problems of battery draining , overheating and some other problems, im still on 4.2.2 MG9 build, is it safe to upgrade and not be afraid of having any problems ?
Hi guys,

I am currently on a i9500 international s4 with the stock rooted 4.2.2 rom using the latest perseus kernel to overclock to 1.7ghz. If I upgrade to 4.3 with the samsung roll out will it cause any problems and will I have to reroot?

no problem with upgrading to 4.3, you need to reroot after if you want
Wouldn't recommend it unless you want a knox bootloader.

After upgraded my S4 i9500 from 4.2.2 to 4.3 XUEMJ5 via Kies, I'm having a lot of troubles regarding battery drain and overheating.
I came to the Samsung Services Center yesterday and asked them to downgrade my device back to 4.2.2, but their answer is "Sorry, we cannot do it. Once upgraded to 4.3, there is no way to reverse to 4.2" ?!?!!?!?!
Is it true? Has anybody tried to downgrade your S4 from 4.3 to 4.2
Thanks for your advice!

I had the same issue. There seems to be a problem downgrading to certain 4.2.2 roms. I eventualy managed to downgrade using the South African version (I9500XXUBMH1) . After you've flashed this, you can re-flash whichever ROM you prefer.
Give it a go and let me know.

Unfortunately it states:
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
Warrant Bit: 1
But it doesn't really bother me for now, until I have to send it back for repairs I guess
I'm sure the Chainfire guys will eventually be able to reset this counter as the TriangleAway is currently not supporting the GS4 I9500.
Cheers
So is there a specific way you have to flash it or do i just use odin?
Do i flash the roms back to back or what?
Hello,
I can't find any reliable information for my question.
I'm planning to buy a (used) german Note 3 with MJ7-Bootloader.
Is there any way to root this phone WITHOUT tripping Knox?
I know there are several rooting-methods (e.g. the controversial KingoApp-root), but some of them don't work.
Does KingoApp work? I also know about the security-related things about this app!
Any information would be very useful!
Best regards and thanks a lot

If Official Android 4.4 is on its way to NOTE 3 in the early quater of next year ...why root now and facing upgrading issues later? Morever all the encounters and experiences mentioned here is very inconclusive because majority of the forumers not only do not read first, they also do not know the phone well enough to express clearly how they had rooted their phones ( failures and/or success ).
Be patience is the key. Meantime just wait. I am sure someone will provide a safer rooting for MJ7.
Wait till someone is capable to come up with a safe rooting of MJ7

At this time - No.
I think the only safe way of rooting MJ7 at this point is if you're coming from MJ1 and can root MJ1 first. If I remember correct, MJ3 and above installs a new bootloader which has been patched to prevent RDLV and similar to get around knox. Android 4.4 KitKat is almost here, so I wouldn't worry about it.. I rooted mine just to disable knox but apart from that it's not that much else to do with it.. A few mods with Wanam Xposed if you want, but there's not that much in there that is needed for the Note 3 in my opinion..

What is the relation between rooting or tripping knox and issues getting android 4.4/kitkat later? You are not making sense.
And to OP, there is no way to root and not trip knox counter on mj7 for now.

Getting ota is related to the phone being in official status not knox. Even if you have issue with ota you can just download the official rom and flash with odin. There is no way tripping knox is going to prevent future rom upgrading.

Should I upgrade from MJ7 to KitKat?
An uprage for KitKat arrived on my N9005 and I don't know if I should install it. I have the international Note3 version with MJ7 firmware and I would like to root my phone and install alternative ROM without knox tripping.

KK for me is way much better than JB. Battery life is way much better than JB, and it is much smoother. This is what I've experienced on my phone. So it's your decision to make. But, my suggestion, if you want to upgrade, don't take from OTA, better you flash from ODIN (download the official firmware from samfirmware, and flash it from ODIN), and do a factory reset after that.
If you still want to stay at MJ7, and root it, I can only tell you, up to now I write this, there's still no method for a safe tripping root method for MJ7, because this firmware has a new bootloader for 4.3 which has a samsung patch. And don't ever think to downgrade to earlier 4.3, coz this is also impossible.
If you want to safe your KNOX flag, at the moment, don't root. If you want to root, you have to let go your KNOX flag.
You can wait, but nobody knows how long you should wait. because at the other end, samsung also keep on updating its bootloader.
Choice is yours, mate.
Cheers.

Thanks for a prompt answer! As I'm a bit of a newbie, I would like to ask you, what is the advantage of flashing through Odin? I guess my data won't be deleted and knox won't be affected.
I'm a bit afraid to choose wrong firmware and brick my phone. Is there anything I should be careful about?
I just selected the firmware from sammobile based on the filter model and country. I hope, it's the right one.
Also is the factory reset necessary? I have quite a lot applications with adjusted settings on the phone. After the the factory reset I would need to reinstall everything and also do the settings again.

Flashing full firmware through odin is better. Coz I experienced bad thing through ota before. As well as kies, but could be a bad download though.
Yes u just find a firmware for ur device and flsh through odin.
Btw u can use NC2 czhech... this is the newest.
Factory reset is needed once u complete the flashing and stuck at bootloop. And yes since u r not rooted, I don't think u can backup nd restore ur current apps. So u will need to reinstall after a reset.

Thanks, it worked fine. Everything remained installed, so I don't have to reinstall or restore anything. Also knox if still fine.
But I'm quite disappointed by Samsung approach. I'm missing some features from my rooted SIII, so it's probably only a matter of time before I root the device (with or without the knox).

Not trying to scare u. But u better backup ur contacts, sms, or other stuff from ur internal storage.
My last bad experience was... yes device nver ask to factory reset after update. But after few weeks of usage, it suddenly freeze until very hot, and reboot, and voila... all gone.
This happen to note 2 when upgrade via ota from 4.1.2 to 4.3. and device belongs to my boss, and I m the one who did the ota update. So happy when don't need to factory reset, but I got Fcuk when his data all suddenly gone.
Anyway... no harm back up ur important data.
