So iam Thinking of selling my note 2 and buy an s4, but after seeing the vast bad consumer reviews on both the german and uk amazon about the failure rates of the display and overheating issues its starting to worrying me.
Did you guys have any issues with your s4?
Should I wait for a less defective batch?
The version available to me is the l9505
People are going to have different opinions. Some will say fw will fix problems. When the Note 3 and/or the S5 come out, I know what I'm doing. I'm going to wait a little bit, not too long though and get a feel of what consumers have to say about the device before purchasing. To each their own.

Problems you read about on the Internet can happen, however, in the case of S4 some of the problems have been solved by Samsung with firmware updates.
Overheating seem to happen more often on i9500 than on i9505. I personally never had a problem with overheating.
I personally wouldn't wait.
Therr are 2 versions of s4.
1. I9500 - has heating problem due to the octa core processor.
2. I9505 - comparitively, gets lets heated up.
About the screen issue, most of it is caused due to not handling s4 properly or by heating issue.
Anyway, note 2 is an awesome device. I own one too. Apart from note 2, I own s4. I must say that s4 is way better than note 2. You can see significant performance with s4 along with the amazing software support from samsung.
The choice it yours. You should look at some reviews on youtube becuase there is nothing called as 'less defective batch of s4' unlike the defects found in htc one.

If you are using note 2 then at least you should wait more one or two months...i dont think s4 is so big update over note 2
Yes..if you are using other devices like note 1 , s2 (or s3 may be) etc then you can buy s4 now and now you can get much price cut on s4
After all its your choice
if you come from the note 2 then my advice is to wait for the note 3
its the best choice for you and the note 2 is still a very capable device that runs anything currently out well

This thread is going towards comparison b/w S4 and Note 2. isn't it.?
BTW, I do have both devices S4 octa V & Note 2.
Both have different parameters. Better to use this thread for comparison -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334012
I have SGSIII E210K and SGS4 I9500. Both have heat issue. And i wouldn't say I9500 have exceptional heating. Nope. It's comparable to E210K, but may be a little more hot. But, hey, I9500 has more powerful CPU as well.
Thus heating level is normal if compare to other powerful devices. If u don't play 3D games and don't use live 3d wallpaper then I9500 won't heat much.
Note 2 (and Note 3 will as well) has bigger size and thus more efficient in heat dissipation. So, it's obviously will work better even with the same CPU. And has room for bigger battery as well.
If you are user of Note 2 then upgrade to Note 3 will be more pleasant than to S4 where u will have some trade-offs.
As a i9500 user I haven't experienced any reset due to camera or heating. Heating is moderate even when I am running benchmarks. Everything seems fine to me and performance is extraordinary! Only thing I wonder is we might not get google edition rom but there is a possibility that samsung will release a fw for i9500 that will run all 8 cores which is exciting!

8 cores at the same time would equal very low battery time.
Well that might be the reason behind late developing process.

Hi Guys,
I'm planning to buy S4 but have found quite diverse feedback, like the issues with heat up, lagging etc. I had to choose between HTC One & S4 but the image quality in daylight shots, SD Card & removable battery was what I prefer the most.
I would also love to know which one should I go for i.e. i9500 or i9505.
I'll be playing some casual games not the most graphic intense games and that too for about 30-40 min at a time, will be always on wifi ON, emailing, fb etc.
I would love to hear from S4 users who are using it from quite sometime.
Thanks
Been using i9500 for seven months. Perfectly happy with the device. Never had a problem with a single game. After 4.3 update it has become extremely smooth. No overheating. All stock.
Thanks for your reply. I would also love to know if there is any difference between the two in camera shots.

If you are going to have to choose between a variant of the S4, then why not go for the i9506 (if it's available in your area). It has advanced LTE, Snapdragon 800 (faster than the 600 on i9505 and Exynos on 19500) and also Adreno 330 GPU.
I also compared the battery life and performance with a friend running the i9505 and it lasted about 1 hour longer and looked a tiny bit faster in opening games. This is the latest model of the S4 and if it's available, you should definitely get it. Also it doesn't have the annoying knox warranty issue like the i9505, so rooting it would not be a problem (although rom development is a bit slow)

Unfortunately, i9506 isn't available in our area. I have to choose between i9500/i9505
i9500 uses Sony Exmor RS sensor compared to i9505's Sony Exmor R sensor.
so, i9500 takes better picture to i9505
Camera is better on the i9500 from what I've read so far. But yes, custom rom development is much less than that of 9505. If that doesn't matter to u much, then go for 9500 as it is a little better than its cousin in almost every respect.
So, i9500 will be a good choice to choose between the two.
Can we expect the overall performance including battery performance to improve once we have official KitKat for S4?
I9505 for development. Ability to flash Google Edition Roms and there are many custom TW roms and AOSP roms. It is better supported by the devs if development is important.

Yes, I would want the ability to flash & custom roms, but if Samsung makes KitKat available for i9500/i9505 at the same time than I'll go for the stock i9500 as we didn't have 3G coverage yet (talking about 4G is over the moon here).
How different are the camera performance on the two. I have seen quite a few shots & found that sometimes I would see i9500 doing good & the other times i9505
Also can we expect the camera performance to get better with new firmware or KitKat.
Both cameras are probably on par. The I9500 has a newer sensor inside it. Firmware updates bring camera firmware updates too. Both should be fine, but obviously your not going to get picture quality when you compare to a digital camera or DSLR.
Both are adequate in good lighting conditions and compare to the other handsets currently out there.

Hi There.
I am thinking of buying a SIM-free Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. I currently reside in the UK and the last update i saw for the S4 (my wife had one until she sold it to a friend) was 4.2.2.
Now, I heard Android 4.2.2 is now live and available to (almost) everyone in the UK.
But, what i want to ask is about the camera. As someone who owned and have actually tried i can say that the S4 camera app itself is slower than the one on the S3 and the iPhone 5. I'm talking about opening/starting up the app and the shutter lag (i.e. pressing the camera shutter button and in-between shots).
Is there any mention on camera enhancements on the Android 4.4.2 for the galaxy S4?
Please advice. Thanks.

I just tried a test where my device will be inside the pocket and I have to take it out and take a pic.
My first shot took me exactly like 5.5 seconds starting from taking the device from pocket to firing up the first shot.In the next 4 seconds I was able to take
around 5-7 shots.
So basically , I was able to get around 7 shots within 10 seconds time frame.
In second test , I tried burst mode.It took me 7 seconds to start burst mode.By the end of 9th second , I got 30 shots.

Everything is same as 4.3.The speed of shots , camera launch time etc.
If you want to compare against 4.2 , only improvement is camera launch time which is reduced from 6-7 seconds to 3 seconds.

Well, think twice before you get it if you care on camera, the S4 its a good phone overall but... look at my POST
I've seen your post and it does confirm what i'm fearing that...the camera is slow to start and shutter lag is awfully slow.
So, why Samsung came up with the 4.4.2 update for the S4 with only "incremental" improvements in the first place?
Camera issues like slowness and sluggishness especially the shutter lag leaves me wondering why it wasn't updated.
If i'm too worried about camera startup and zero shutter lag what Android phone should i be looking at?

I had a S3 i747 and I was pretty satisfied with it, I had it with CM11 and just love it badly and think that an S4 upgrade will be unnecesary because I didn't see why the people get excited when it was first launched.
Recently I had the oportunity of hold a S4 in my hands and I see that is not larger than a S3 and I liked so much its design, the size of the LED button, its screen size and the quadcore procesosr improvement also was good so I decide to go for a S4. I bought a second hand i337m S4 for about US 300 after sold my i747 in about US 250 so it was a no thinking situation for me. I haven't noticed any annoying bug on stock rom, the camera app was pretty cool with plenty of effects and WatchOn app was great to control your TV. I'm a hardened CM fan so I can't wait to see it on my cellphone so I installed it and so far (I have CM for about 5 days now) the only bug I have see is that while the phone is charging, you can't power on the cellphone (you just have to disconnect it and power on, not a big deal), for TV control I use Peel Smart Remote App and it works just as good as Samsung's app
In conclusion: I would say that if you feel good with your S3 you have no particular need for buy a S4 (probably get the same experience with some improvements) but if you have the oportunity of upgrade at a good price, then go for it

Hi,
some users have problems with Kitkat and some don't.
In general custom roms are running better than the original system. My guess. I'm very satisfied with S4 developed custom roms
It is your choice. There aren't any big hardware changes except full HD screen and camera quality.

I had S3 and I have now S4 (i9500) with Kitkat update, S4 have 2 GB Memory (S3 only 1 GB) & it is more smooth than S3, S4 also doesn't lag as much as S3 do.
in general S4 is a nice update for your current S3, but if you want my advice try to get S5, the screen in S5 is way more accurate and better than S4 screen, the battery also is more powerful.
it depends on how much you are ready to pay $.
Hi i also upgraded from s3 to s4 last October, i would. Recommend You to upgrade to s4 as it is a really good and compact device with 1080p display and thin bezels, unlike the ugly s5 which isn't compact.

is the Note 4 worth getting when i have a s5 ? i would like to experience the Note phone as i never had one before and i like the spen thingie looks cool.
did anyone here had a s5 and jumped to the Note 4 ?
i dont really want to get the S6 nor the Note 5 mainly due to no Removable back for battery swapping and the use of msd.
yesterday i had sell my s5 for a note 4! it is really better for performance battery camera everything! for me is it a good option!!!

awesome thanks, but how much extra did you pay on top of it ? i think if i sell my s5 in the city here i would barely get 200$ for trade in and would need to pay about 250$ for getting the note 4.
my biggest question is the screen bro,
how is the screen in your eyes??? i saw the note 4 screen from a friend and i didnt like it like MY eyes hurt from looking at it , as it is a QHD display will you get used to it ?? its sooo sharp ,
thanks for the feedback
I sold together with the gear neo 2 so I did not pay anything. an affair!
the screen is much larger of s5, MUCH! and everything is very clear ..sharp! the best display for me. the brightness is very high, to not have problems I keep it to less than half !! if you can buy it!
the memory is 32 gb ..i have 32 micro sd therefore at the top with removably battery!

nice , i am thinking of getting the 910F variant so i can have CM installed on it
thanks for the feedback, so in your opinion it is defintely worth it and it is much better than the s5 in everything ?:fingers-crossed:
I've had s5 for a year and I think it is much better. pictures at night for example are really the best.It is reactive with the TouchWiz !!! good buy!
ps i have 910F european version!
I didn't have an S5 but I did upgrade from a Note 3 to the Note 4.
In my opinion the Note 4 is a fantastic phone- the camera is superb and the screen is face-meltingly awesome.
However, just it can be laggy at times- I'm pretty sure it's a common issue amongst Note 4 users (I have lag and I'm running SimplRom- which in my experience gives the smallest amount of lag in comparison to other custom ROMs I've tried).
The battery life is pretty good too.
Personally I'd make the upgrade but just be warned- there is a fair amount of lag.
Perhaps have a look at review videos etc on YouTube? There's bound to be a comparison video somewhere.
Good luck!

Hmm, difference in performance from your S5 to a SD Note 4 will be very minor. Specially because the display has a higher resolution.
Quite frankly, official 5.1.1 by Sammy is looking glorious. Phone is so ridiculously fast that I find myself playing of opening and closing apps.
I used CM variants at my S3 for 2~3 years straight, but apart from the cleaner look I honestly don't miss anything about it.
If you're dead set on using CM then the 910F is going to achieve daily driver level much sooner, but the 910C is a better device.

i see.. well i like CM alot, i had the Exynos S5 900h and i swapped it with a QualComm 900f, i really dont want to do that again, since the 910c is a Exynos based model, i think there isnt much of a difference personally.. cause i know this from owning the exynos/qualcomm based s5's.
how much do you like the Note 4 ? is it a very fun phone , like more fun than the smaller displays e.g s3/s4/s5 etc. the ones ranging from 4.7'' - 5'' etc. ?
oh and one more thing, how long will it take me to get used to the sharpness of the n4 screen ? the qhd is the thing that hurts my eyes, when i looked at the one from my relative his n4 hurt my eyes, it is non fake , he has the 910h < exynos one.
will my eyes adapt to the huge sharp screen in a matter of days ?
