I had a S3 i747 and I was pretty satisfied with it, I had it with CM11 and just love it badly and think that an S4 upgrade will be unnecesary because I didn't see why the people get excited when it was first launched.
Recently I had the oportunity of hold a S4 in my hands and I see that is not larger than a S3 and I liked so much its design, the size of the LED button, its screen size and the quadcore procesosr improvement also was good so I decide to go for a S4. I bought a second hand i337m S4 for about US 300 after sold my i747 in about US 250 so it was a no thinking situation for me. I haven't noticed any annoying bug on stock rom, the camera app was pretty cool with plenty of effects and WatchOn app was great to control your TV. I'm a hardened CM fan so I can't wait to see it on my cellphone so I installed it and so far (I have CM for about 5 days now) the only bug I have see is that while the phone is charging, you can't power on the cellphone (you just have to disconnect it and power on, not a big deal), for TV control I use Peel Smart Remote App and it works just as good as Samsung's app
In conclusion: I would say that if you feel good with your S3 you have no particular need for buy a S4 (probably get the same experience with some improvements) but if you have the oportunity of upgrade at a good price, then go for it

Hi,
some users have problems with Kitkat and some don't.
In general custom roms are running better than the original system. My guess. I'm very satisfied with S4 developed custom roms
It is your choice. There aren't any big hardware changes except full HD screen and camera quality.

thanks for yr reply...... yes custom roms are amazing... ill buy a S4 and see....hope no problems
thanks a lottttttttttttttttttt

I had S3 and I have now S4 (i9500) with Kitkat update, S4 have 2 GB Memory (S3 only 1 GB) & it is more smooth than S3, S4 also doesn't lag as much as S3 do.
in general S4 is a nice update for your current S3, but if you want my advice try to get S5, the screen in S5 is way more accurate and better than S4 screen, the battery also is more powerful.
it depends on how much you are ready to pay $.

Hi i also upgraded from s3 to s4 last October, i would. Recommend You to upgrade to s4 as it is a really good and compact device with 1080p display and thin bezels, unlike the ugly s5 which isn't compact.

Should i buy this phone?

hey all, im thinking of getting either a galaxy s3, the htc one x or the galaxy note.
now iv read that the htc one x has serious overheating issues so im not going to bother with that now. so that leaves me with either the galaxy s3 or the galaxy note.
some reports are saying the galaxy s3 has heat issues too but nothing certain.
question is, does the galaxy note have any issues that i should be aware off? if its prone to overheat or failures of other kinds then please let me know and i will not bother to purchase it.
thanks all.

Well there is the emmc issue, which basiccly means if your wipe/factory reset your devices while on a stock ICS rom it can brick your device, other than that no issues really
S3 has the best hardware, fastest CPU and probably the biggest life span since it's newest.
Note has big, amazing screen, great hardware and amazing battery life.
One X has terrible battery life, can't replace battery, no sd card and not that great performance for a quad-core device.
I just got my s3 and have to say speed wise it leaves the note well behind no lag and very smooth overall.
However.
It feels like a toy compared to the note the screen is not all that on the s3 and the note feels a better quality device.
Ive played with the s3 for a bit and now its just sittig there for work duties. the note deffo jas the edge in my books

I'd get the s3. Who knows if Samsung is going to update the note anymore beyond ics... also the s3 has a better processor, it also has a better camera and is certainly more future proof. I'm actually thinking of dumping my own note for the s3, buying two. One for me and one for my partner. I played with it in the store and boy does that device fly. It's just so fast and it seems like it's a lagless device. The note isn't a bad device. But we're talking about a 2011 device vs a 2012 device. Also the new flagship device. I really hope Samsung does keep updating the note because this device is awesome as it has an awesome screen and the pen which originally I found useless but then I started to use it and it's grown on me to the point where I'm not sure I'll be able to survive without it. Haha. How about that? Lol.

really it depends if the s-pen matters to you or not.
if it doesn't, then just go for the latest and greatest device.

Yes I agree about the lag and smoothness; but only if we're talking about stock roms. Flash your note with a custom rom (CM9), and you won't find a difference plus you will have a wonderful big screen:good:
very tempted with the note, the s3 does seem like the logical choice since its newer has faster tech in it but the s3 forums seem to be complaining about overheating issues. im just not sure if i want to risk going with the s3 for those reasons. iv used the s3 in tescos and it is truly a fast device. im also considering getting a google nexus 7 so not sure if the galaxy note is ideal for me. although it does look amazing since the screen is so big.
main thing is that im worried about the reliability of these devices. if there were no reports of overheating of the galaxy s3 then that would have been my first choice.

[Q] Nexus 4 from Note 2 question

Hi all,
Well, hope someone can give me their opinions here.
I have had a Samsung Galaxy note II for a couple of months now, but I am considering getting the Nexus 4 since I want stock Android and get access to the latest Android updates.
Also, the Note II has been a little big to me.
I heared somewhere that the microphone of the phone is not that good, is this really true?
How do you like the phone? Is this a good choice?
I know that some peole may chooce the Samsung for it's screen, but other than that?
Another thing is the built in battery on the Nexus 4 wich I don't like, but suppose one has to live with that.
Any comments please!
Many thanks!

I had a note 2 before the N4 came out. And for me the note 2 was just too big. I like being able to use the whole device with one hand.
That said. The mic on the N4 is fine when making voice calls. the problem I noticed is when recording video, or using apps like voxer walkie talkie or VOIP apps. Basically anything other than voice calls. I can't explain why, but it just sounds like your always way to close to the mic.
The ear piece has some fuzz sound on voice calls (unless they fixed it in newer revisions.).
I also feel like the signal is worse with this phone. What ever the logistics are it will often go from 3 bars to 1 bar without evening touching it, but doesn't seem to affect the use of it unless you're in a poor coverage area already then it will show no service much more often than my G nex or Note 2 did.
The note 2 has much better battery life because of size and I like that it is removable. I also really like the wireless charging on the Nexus. I miss SD slot on note.
All that said. I still prefer the nexus over the note 2 at this point.

I also had the Galaxy Note 2 and it is a great phone with very good batterylife. But what i like more is the pure android xperience without the touchwizz shell over it, the bleeding edge cpu and gpu and fast updates. Also i like the size and usabilty is better than on th GN2. And since 4.2.2 batterylife has improved a lot. I would recommend the Nexus 4 for daily use and speed and the Note 2 if you like using the S-pen features and appreciate the screen size.
Hi,
Many thanks for your replies!
That sounds good, I don't use the S-pen and it's OK with not using the big screen as the Note 2 has and as i said, want to get the new Anroid updates and I don't know if the Note 2 will be updated to v4.2. I don't like the touchwiz that much either so I can live without it.
How is the loud speaker on the phone then? Is it OK?
Some people have said that this is a downgrade from Note 2, but I don't think so.
Many thanks!
The speaker is okay to me, but I don't expect a lot from phone speakers. Definitely not as good as the note's though.

The Note II will probably be updated to 4.2.1/4.2.2 around Q2 2013 (so that is when the next v. of android will be announced.)

Galaxy S4 or Xperia Z/ZL or Nexus 4??

Guyz i have a budget of 30K and options i made out are Nexus 4, Xperia Z/ZL or Samsung galaxy S4.
Can you give suggestions??
My requirement is : Music like Xperia phones, Camera sensor like Xperia phones, Display like AMOLED or S-LCD.
My last device was Xperia SP and it totally sucked. Pathetic display. Pathetic camera. Sold out after 10 days use!!!
Go for nexus if you want pure stock ROM

I had a Z and now I have a S4. Worst decission ever. Going back to Z.
In the end, it's a matter of personal preferences. I like the XZ because of the premium feeling, music (I listen a lot of music during the day), and exclusivity. I have seen S3 and S4 all around the place I live, and if I pay a lot of money for a gadget, I want to have at least a little exclusivity.
About the screen, I like the one on the XZ. The thing with the viewing angles is non existent at this point.
The camera has been greatly improved.
You should check the XZ forum and read about that phone in there.
I haven't had a Nexus and I don't like it (Find it too boring), so I couldn't tell you about it.
Anyway, with any of the options you'll have a great device.
All Questions must be posted in the Q/A section
I have the Nexus 4 and the S4 .
The Screen of the S4 is better, the Battery is a lot of better , for the N4 there are tons of roms and kernel out there, this is one thing i am missing here ( i am a flash junkie, only AOSP Roms and Kernel )
All in all , both are great Phones. Cant realy say wich one is better. I keep both Phones.
xperia z cabt even compete with s2, it has the worst washed screen, terrible battery life and super stupid screen response. .. used it for 3 days and I couldn't stand it anymore
n4 isn't bad at all but you shld consider that on screen soft buttons will make your typing really hard ( pressing on home button instead of space alot)

Well. I had nexus 4 and I must say that it was the smoothest and most fluent experience. It felt like the software was actually optimized for the hardware. Ok one or two stutters mostly with third party apps like Facebook. But...i now use a i9505 with 4.3 GE build JRV66V which is incredible. I now have a better nexus experience, a much better camera (compared with the nexus 4 ) and great battery life. Can't say anything about xperia z/zl other than to assume that the same SOC/GPU/RAM with the nexus 4 but with a bigger screen and also a higher resolution, cannot bring a better os experience than a nexus one. The differences are in looks, Oem software and personal affinities.
Hope it helped. Cheers.

IMO just stay away from XZ/ZL crappy display - bad cam - tiny speaker
Nexus very good device with fast updates but it had bad cam with no SD + glass back ( chance of breaking the glass x2 ) , no 1080p display
GS4 : I9500 more powerful CPU than I9505 , games work better than I9505 , better DAC , better Battery , better cam sensor
I9505: better AOSP support - more powerful GPU than I9500
BTW Htc One is good option too
my 0.2 $
I am using s4 9500 htc one and iphone5, as you can see i am a gadget maniac.
Didnot use nexus 4 so i cannot post anything about it.
I just sold my XZ 2 days ago. For me;
if you want to play games and use big screen go for s4
if you want something you can daily use go for Htc.
Htc one is very stable and no lags.
s4 has so many lags (for me) and not much rom support like 9505.
if you want to shoot good pics go for s4, htc camera is totally crap (big failure).
Htc one is handy you can use easily with one hand.
Both screens are excellent both 1080p.
Hope helps
cheers;

I am waiting for Note 3 'cause i was keen admirer of note2. If you can wait just about a month then go for note 3
You meant i9500 has poor roms choice, the i9505 has as much as the One,I am using sometimes the launcher + weather widget from XZ one my One thanks to codex and it rules!
The 13mp of the S4 is awesome though and make me want to swap from my One to S4
if youre going to use the S4 then get the 9505

how is the battery life on the xperia z since the latest update
I got the 9505 my wife the Nexus 4.
Being honest I wouldnt buy the S4 again.
One big plus is the cam (only on stock rom!). But it is so damn lagging. Cant believe this by a so called flagship. I really love the "nexus experience" of the N4. The N4 has also a great housing, in my opinion better than the S4. The screen of the S4 inside buildings is great, outside the amoled is not bright enough.
Maybe you should check the Moto X if available in your country.

Correct. Unfortunately the Cam isnt that good with GE.
For 1 S4 you get 2 N4. This is why for me the N4 is the better option
The n4 performs really good but speaker sucks on it.i have gs4 but it does lag on touchwiz rom.u can juat flash aosp rom and your good. Now the htc one performs really well I really recommend that phobe

Used both The HTC One and the Galaxy S4 S600 version... if you want something with a better camera and slightly better battery life go with the S4... Everything else go with the HTC One. The HTC One, despite running 4.1.2 is as smooth and quick as my SGS4 on a 4.3 Nexus ROM. For development, the HTC One has more kernels and ROMs too.

XZ' s battery life is good but with the update i felt little bit of more juice in stamina mode. But of course when screen is on juice runs out more quickly.
S4 > Htc One > XZ . For my statistics these are the battery times.
I tried the N4 then the S4.
The S4 is better for me ! More expensive but more better !
Sorry for my english
lol the xperia phones are a disgrace.. why would sony put such a bad screen on their flagship device?
i have a galaxy s4 myself running on the latest touchwiz rom, it rarely lags , the screen is amazing except for the "ghosting/smearing issue" everything else is great
im gonna be switching to the GE 4.3 rom when its available (probably tomorrow) :good:

Nexus 5 Worth It?

After the nexus 5 launch, I was amazed at how well the phone was built. However I currently own a Galaxy S4 and want to ask, is it worth getting the Nexus 5 over the GS4? Or would the smoothness be much better on N5?
Also this thread has no intention to hate on the GS4 in any way, I personally love the GS4, I just want an honest opinion about which is the smoother phone.
Thanks.
its depending how you want to use your phone.
If you can live without a external sdcard and removeable battery then go for N5 :good:
But if you need more space as the build in memory and are a power user and need more then 1 battery for a day then you have to go for s4
and with s4 I9506 you got the latest spec in you phone :good:

The only other difference maybe the IR Blaster the S4 has. It allows you to use phone as a Remote for your DVR/Cable Box/TV etc. I don't think the Nexus has this.

Hi,
Before you read my comment I'd just like to remember you that it's YOUR money! Don't take it personally, just give a thought and some more reflection in this.
So, Nexus 5 is indeed an amazing device, however for what you speak of what you want to do GS4 is still great! I'd like to remember you that the companies wants you to buy every latest release, think about it: you'll get N5 now and in some months GS5 is released, for sure GS5 will be smoother, but think if it's really worth changing in such short time span.
The last device I had before my S4 was a X10 Mini Pro, which lasted 3 years, I believe you should keep your device for some more time, you got it this year! After Xperia Z1 was released I was crazy about buying it, but then I thought: "Dude. I got my S4 some months ago... I just finished paying it... Do I really need more?". My conclusion was: for more that I like Sony, the best is to keep my device now and in some years change. It is still a beast and very smooth! I have no lags on it and I am very happy with the device!
Hope this helps you ,

I usually go between 18 months to two years before I get a new phone. That way I am on the cusp so to say.
I have an S4. I've just bought a N5 to try it out. The software is great. Buttery smooth. If this is your priority, you will enjoy it. The quality of the camera is also nice. There are hardware features on my S4 which I missed though. The IR Blaster, the external memory card slot (32GB is never enough), and also the barcode transmitter for Beep and Go. For me, it wasn't worth making the sacrifice. I'm just being patient and waiting for the Google Edition Kit Kat Rom to come out for the S4 now.

Thanks heaps for all the comments, I have read deeply into each one and decided to wait longer, also to save up for better upcoming devices. Afterall I'll probably end up buying the GS5
just my 2 cents what you get with a nexus device is instantaneous and long term updates . also the price is very competitive 400 $ for a 32 gb model , and let s not forget a greater community development . i will be getting a nexus 5 just waiting for the dust to settle before making my purchase.

I've got both too. As much as I like the N5 I can't give my S4 up. Why you may ask? Well for one the blacks on AMOLED destroy any IPS panel out there the N5 is brighter and has crisper whites but the blacks appear dark grey and there is some light bleed and viewing angles at certain degrees is noticable. The IR blaster is useful and something I make use of so I'd lose that if I was to move. I've got a 64gb memory card with all my google play music on it as well as big games with foldermount and all my pictures and videos too. So space is not a concern were as I'd be limited to the 26gb or so on the Nexus.
The Nexus runs the greatest and latest OS which is lovely but 4.3 still works well for me so I can wait for an update. I prefer the bigger screen and hardware buttons on the S4.
By switching I'd be loosing more than what I'd be gaining so I'm sticking with the S4 for the time being but don't get me wrong the Nexus is fast very fast and you'll have new updates sooner compared to OEM devices.

I've just got S4 a few days, I know I should wait for Nexus 5 to announce first. But from my experience with LG NExus 4, I have to hate LG. The power/vol buttons are hard to press, I have to press (use lots of force) for a few time to make it work... it's so annoying. The speaker on N4 is so flat. I bet LG make flat speaker... I also hear same flat sound from LG G2, so I bet Nexus 5 won't be better. Anyway, I reserve my judgement after I test it, I love it though.... but maybe Nexus 5 is not good enough for me to dump S4 yet.

[Q] How is your note 3 holding up?

I currently own a HTC One M8 and thinking about going to the note 3. Because I love big screens and a decent camera on a phone, none of which the M8 has.
So I just wanna know how you guys are finding it ?

Ive owned this device for almost 6 months now and I love it more today than yesterday.
Seriously though, the only flaw I see on the note 3 is its camera in low light. Other than that, a simple installation of nova launcher and your note 3 would be as smooth as silk. No other issues whatsoever.
I've used many, many Android phones in my time, and the Note 3 is the best. Bar none.

I'm a big htc fan and thought I'd never jump ship but I did to the 2 and now the 3 which I've had for 5 months. I still love it and would buy it again.

I had the s4 for barely a month and I was going crazy at how awful it felt in my hand. Got a good offer to jump to the note 3 and did so in a heartbeat. Dont regret it even one bit! Although still plastic it feels much better. I used nova launcher mostly and recently rooted and jumped to cm11 and the phone works great! I dont game much, a quick session if im bored or a new fun game comes out, but that lasts for only a day or two. I have noticed a slight battery drop on cm11. Its still in "beta" so im not to worried about that. But on touchwizz it could last a long time on H+ data. Just couldnt stand tw, its so ugly!
I'm coming from S4, and camera here is that much better, escpecially night mod! Love it.. And everything else.. Two sim model rocks.. I think for now dual sim note 3 is the best device you can find on market. So go ahead, buy one, fck htc.. i've had M7, and didn't like it.. liked the look, but not their android and camera for example

Been a nexus fan, used to root devices as soon as I got home from the shop. The Knox flag is a major issue for those of us that like to toy around with different ROMs and tweaks, but the device itself is spectacular. I'm very pleased by the build quality, light and quality materials, very, very, very smooth. 8 days uptime and still devouring everything I throw at it. Battery life is more then decent and the overall experience is a joy. Buy it.

The only weakpoint of the Note 3 is the outdated TW version, hope Sammy will bring the S5 TW to other devices too

Are you a bit obsessed with this S5 TW being brought to Note 3 thing ?
I don't like it at all, the S5 TW.
Just sayin.
And to contribute to the thread... Of course, go for the Note 3. I own it since its launch, and I couldn't tell you nothing bad about it. The screen size and the super amoled are perfect. The camera rules too, a bunch of options. And for me, having the Spen (the reason I bought the phone), it's even more of a joy to use the phone.
I'm running a custom stock kitkat rom, visually changed some things with Wanam xposed and I love it.

Lord no, not obsessed. What i meant more is the bloatware that is included with the Sammy roms. Installing Echo rom as we speak with all the S5 UI looks
Almost got rid of it and got m8 but thanks to this leak their is hope
