[Q] How to completely disable Touchwiz in stock ROM - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm now using a custom launcher but TW seems to remain in the RAM at least partially. My note 3 is rooted but remain with stock ROM. It appears that some integral OS functions are tied to TW as it's actually merged into the OS. It is still consuming around 70MB of RAM in the background while I'm using another launcher. Has anyone been successful completely disabling TW without installing a custom ROM?

you cant "get rid" of tw on stock.. the only way to get rid of tw is by flashing a nAOSP rom, eg CM, AOKP, AOSPA, PAC, Etc

On Titanium Backup Freeze the "Ec.pr.TouchWiz 4.3-N9005XXUBMaa". aa depends Your Rom. Or...
On system/app MOVE to sdcard the files SecLauncher4.apk + .odex. Reboot and no more TouchWiz.
On system/app there are also the EasyLauncher.apk +.odex. You can try move this also.

Any potential adverse effects doing this? Would I lose functionality e.g. S pen etc by removing TouchWiz, esp if it's an integral part of the OS on the note 3.

You can try whitout problems. On Titanium Backup You can defreeze it easy and work.
Whit files moved You can return it to system/app and reboot.

Does the above advise worked for someone? I would like to try but I'm afraid..

Just remember if you have a launcher installed as a user app, and remove the touchwiz launcher from system.. if you ever do a factory reset, your phone won't get past the setup screen as there is no launcher.

superclean vs stock questions

I have stock EB01, and have removed or frozen most of the apps that came stock, but kept touchwiz, calendar, calculator, vcast song id, media player, file browser, weather clock, gallery, clock, email, write and go, task manager, and opera.
if I go to a superclean rom, can I successfully add all these back in? will there be much of a point installing a superclean rom if I am just going to add these things back in? and last but not least, if I keep all these apps and touchwiz, is there any other "fat" I can trim from the stock rom?
I ask because some have said not all apps will install right from a clean rom?
You can root it the way it is now and use root explorer to copy the apk's from /system/app and paste then to your sd card and put them back when you install your new rom.
You can also use titanium backup to save the apps and data you want and restore them when you flash your new rom.

That will work if the ROM he is on is deodexed. If not, the apps won't play nice with a deodexed ROM.

like my post says, it's stock, de cluttered with titanium backup, nothing else.
how do I deodex it? what does this do?
titanium backup doesn't actually let me reinstall anything, not sure if it's titanium backup, or something else, but I'm starting to regret having payed for this stupid app, as it doesn't seem to work as advertised.
is there a better, free app that actually works?
Just to clarify, your phone IS rooted right? I can see Titanium not letting you uninstall stuff if it didn't have root access, but the first thing I did when I got the phone was root it so I have never tried to use it un-rooted.
if the phone wasn't rooted, how would I be running eb01? of coarse it's rooted. uninstalling isn't the issue, installing from backup is.

ok smartass... Then back up a few posts and realize that you did more than just root as you also had to install some rom to get EB01. What rom was it? Go to that source to make sure its deodexed.
If it is then you already have your answer in the first two replies.

My advice is to nandroid backup your current setup and then just try a superclean ROM with the apps that come with it, (maybe try a theme with custom apps as well,) then change out the things you still want to change (the list will shrink). If you don't like it or find you can't get an app to work that you need, just nandroid or flash back to your current setup.
SuperClean doesn't just remove stuff, it puts in better stuff in its place.

From what you are asking here I can tell you this... From SC2.8 you will be able to add back TouchWiz, Calendar, Media Player, Gallery, Email and Task Manager. There are a number of different clocks that are included, but I'm not sure which ones you specifically are looking for. Adrynaline has provided a number of "stock apps" that you can selectively download and install (I'm personally grateful that he included Daily Briefing). As of yet I have not seen any APK's for Write and Go. Also Opera is a separate install from the Market. It is not included in any stock distro from VZW or Samsung.
Just download Adrynaline's patches listed at the bottom of his latest SC2.x post. He has other things like Nuance and ThinkFree Office too.
Hope this helps.
Titanium backup installs the app when you restore it. I'm not sure what you mean by not working as advertised. Back-up an app that you got from the market place uninstall it. Go to the bottom of the app list in titanium it will show the app greyed out with a line through it. click the app hit restore and choose app and data. Its very simple.

right, that only works for market apps I can get back very easily. when it comes to an app I might need to restore to get back OS or phone functionality, or that I can't get from the market, the restore button is greyed out.
If the restore button is greyed out, you never backed up said application. Data maybe, but not app.
Hi. I'm a big fan of SuperClean. I'm currently running SC 2.8 Voodoo with EB16. My battery life is just OK. Adrynalyne recommends to downgrade the modem to DL09. However, I like to tether. I'm wondering if the DL09 modem has the Verizon monitoring in it or not. Thanks for your help. I would post directly on the developer form, but I don't have enough posts
I'm running superclean 2.9 nonvoodoo. Superclean uses less ram than stock. My battery is excellent running for about a day & a half with moderate use

Deodex an existing ROM?

Hi folks,
I think I know the answer to this already but I'm asking anyway just in case... is it possible to deodex a device as-is? Meaning, if I have stock EI22 installed, can it be deodexed in place?
I'd like to be able to run K0nane's CIQ remover script but its only for deodexed ROMs and I'm real happy with the stability & config of my phone now so flashing a new ROM and setting everything up again is an idea that doesn't thrill me.
Thanks,
Frank
No. Use a back up app to save system settings and apps, and flash the desired rom.

You can flash the stock deodexed rom found in the development forum

Then do an advanced restore of /data and everything will be just how you had it.

Could you please explain that last part, doing an advanced restore of /data? How would you do that? (I'm new.)
I'm with the original poster -- flashing a ROM and then having to reinstall apps and set up everything again isn't exactly the most appealing thing. And if I want to change ROMs for any reason, I'd have to do it all again (right?). If there is some relatively quick and easy way to restore things to make that process easier, I'd like to know more about it. So far, it seems like using Titanium Backup or the like is what most people suggest, but if there's another option, it would be good to know it as well. Thanks.
If you're rooted and have clockworkMod installed as your custom recovery you can copy and "image" of the phone system and data drives. (System and data are on separate partitions, like a c:\> and d:\> drives on a computer. You can use clockworkMod to just restore the data image back to the data partition and it will be just like you had it. Icons on your home screen, your place in angry birds, alarms, vol. Settings. It is a wonderful thing to have, even if you just want stock.
Thanks for the info. I did recently root my phone and have the ACS recovery installed, so I should be able to do this if needed/wanted. Not to sidetrack the original thread too much, but are there any particular pros or cons to this method? It seems a bit easier, but would there be reasons to prefer something like Titanium Backup over this type of data restore? I'm not very familiar with these sorts of things (this is my first time rooting), so I'm trying to make sure I understand the options and what they do. Thanks.
In the case the OP states it would be nearly identical roms so there should be little to no conflict with a data restore. I've been moveing my data. Like this from froyo EC05 thru all the leaks and now to offical GB. But if I didn't want to stay on a leaked GB and I wanted to move to a froyo rom or back to stock I would use my titanium to move a few apps at a time bec, ause the data in gb is a little differnt and might not migrate proper.

Boost HTC EVo Design 4g and handicapped apps

ok this might be a really stupid question/ theory but...
i just got this phone thanks to my lovely wife who gave it to me for Christmas i am noticing that the htc scene has seriously handicapped the ICS experience in comparison to any other ICS phone out there so the question is after i have rotted it can we just replace the default apps with the standard ICS apps ,dialer,Messages, people, and what ever other apps have been tweaked i would love to get the app drawer back
this phone has the kingdom recovery loaded and it has root access i guess the next logical course would be for me to find a decent rom for it
if anyone has any place for me to read point away or advice i would greatly appericate it
You could get a Cyanogenmod rom, make a back up of all the stock apps to your sdcard (apps like the dialer, contacts, etc.) and then find yourself a good ROM and reinstall those after deleting the ones built into the rom
You can also use Titanium Backup to integrate apps into the rom itself (and back up the apps in the part above) so that they are part of the system and not "user" apps
I think this is what you're trying to do

so were would i find said image then how would li go about extracting the apps has anyone done this
Get Ultimate Backup from the Play Store (the free version) and then open it and backup all the stock apps you want
Then restore your regular backup (or flash the ROM you want if you haven't yet) and get a file manager (like ASTRO)
In the file manager, go to your sdcard and look for a folder that says "App_Manager", thats where Ultimate Backup puts all the .apk's it makes
Then just go through and install all the stock apps (click on them and hit "install"), but before you do this make sure you UNINSTALL the equivalent apps in the ROM you're using (you can do this through Titanium Backup, just select each app you want to delete and hit the "batch uninstall" option)
apps
Okay just to make sure I have the straight
A mango backup my existing ROM with titanium backup which I I have already done so
And then I need to go find a ROM that does not have HTC sense 3.6 in it for my phone which does I have not had any luck in finding installed that ROM backup applications I want from that revert back to my semi-stock ROM mentions uninstall the stock sence And replace them with stock android 3.0.4 apps this it may be so much easier some it is an .apk for this

Are you rooted, what ROM are you running at the moment?
You could factory reset and start a fresh, make sure to backup up any important files data first. I know after using a phone for a while I tend to install and uninstall a lot of apps and so there are files and folders that get left behind. Once the internal sd is formatted, you can start again and install the apps that you are currently using.
If you don't want to do that you can try the below app for cleaning up any old/unused files. Or if you are using an SD card, backup the important files, format it and put the files you want to keep back on there. Theres also the Greenify app to help with apps/processes running in the background.
I run a custom stock based ROM and remove a lot of the bloat apps that come pre-loaded or uninstall anything I don't use. You can disable a lot of the existing stuff if you are stock unrooted.
Its hard to say what ROMs are best as everyone has their own opinion, but if you decide to factory reset, it would be a good time to try a few out to see what suits you best.

a way to save your arrangement of apps on home screen?

Hi, is there a way to save your app placements on your homescreen so that when you do a clean wipe and a fresh install of a rom everything will be in the same place? So basically the applications will get moved to their folders or places on the screen without having to move them around manually after a fresh install. Thanks

That's how I do things when I switch from ROM to ROM. Been using Nova for a few years now, and it keeps getting better and better. I flash ROM, Gapps, then a Titanium zip with all my apps and data, set Nova as my launcher, and all the icons and widgets (have to be individually restored, but that just takes a tap) are where they're supposed to be.
this launcher is awesome! thanks guys!
Google now launcher backs up your arrangement automatically. After a clean flash during the end of the setup it asks you whether u wanna restore a backup. Select one. It also restores your arrangement of apps and folders. And it does it in a pretty cool way.
Edit - You need to flash your ROM and gapps package together so that u get the setup screen.
