Anyone on T-Mobile with slow upload speeds - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did a couple of speed test, my uploads are so slow, and downloads are inconsistent. Anyone on T-Mobile with the same problems?
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app

Yup I do, I live in glendale, az with uploads range from 0.14 to 0.59 mbps.
When I'm in phoenix uploads range from 1.10 to 7.91 mbps.
Stock rom and no root tmob g2

No issues here in Chicago

I have no idea what happened to download speed the first time I tested.

I'll contact support tomorrow, hopefully it isn't a phone problem

Those appear to be download/upload speed while using WiFi... see that wifi logo at the top, and no 4G or 4G/LTE symbol.

Straight Talk speeds

I wanted to get an input on what speeds everybody is getting using Straight Talk. I know the speeds depend on coverage area and all but the speeds I am getting using the speedtest app seem a bit off. As you can see all my download speeds are the same they never vary only the upload speeds come up deIfferent this is what got me wondering if I am getting accurate speeds. Please note your speeds and where you are from. I am in NJ and about 14 miles from NYC.
My download speeds always come up as 0.01 Mbps and my upload are between 0.03 - 0.07 Mbps. Those are just some very odd numbers. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the speedtest app. Hope someone can shed some light on this. And before anyone says anything, i know Straight Talk speeds are not as fast as regular ATT or even GoPhone for those that got it to work with the tab. I just want to compare Straight Talk speeds. Thanks.

OK it seems that the speed test app does not support the tab, I am stating this because I used my tab to test my 3g speed on their website and it worked (see picture) the one thing I noticed is that the Mac address of the tab to test the ping comes up as being in Kansas and not where I live, NJ. Just want to note that the highest download I got was close to 6 but upload only close to 1.

Try the FCC speed test app. That allows you to change locations in the settings.

Yikes, something isn't right. How do things like Google maps, locations in Facebook etc work on your phone?
I'm stock, rooted.

I'm having similar issues: I'm using MapMyRun on Xylon/Franco, and it reports very strange distances. It's very weird because I can pull up the map on the app, and it looks right. When I upload the route to their web interface and access it from my computer, the distance gets calculated correctly. But the phone vastly overestimates the distance traveled (up to 10x--i.e. 30 miles for a 3 mile run).
Google maps and Foursquare are dead on, and GPS activates quite quickly.

I just saw we're both using Franco's kernel. Maybe that's the problem?

Also if you dont wait until Endomondo says GPS ok in the bottom left of the screen the it uses the last know GPS location, and moves you to where you actually are when it gets GPS lock. I hav experienced this on ALL older devices (havent been out with the N4 yet)
RunKeeper has been working fine on the other Nexus 4 in my house (distances are almost exactly the same as the Inc's were).

So I`m guessing your in a 2G/EDGE area or GPRS, There is NO way to get better speed unless you use wifi
bhai,
there have beenmany tweaks .. but none of them actually INCREASE the speed ,
just check if your phone is gprs Class 12 capable ..
if yes u might get a speed of more than 100kbps(depends on the signal strength).
LK
just check your gprs and edge version and also try to get a better signal at your phone.
Are you sure your area have 3G coverage and above ? You can try to call your provider for support. By the way have you tried to edit the buildprop file ?

you may need to move
I think there is no way to increase your internet speed unless your area has 3G or LTE signal.
Hello,
If you simply browse page, you may try to use a compressor proxy to reduce download time.
Some browser may provides this automatically (I know chrome beta does, but it's not available for your phone), and it will only work if server don't already compress data.

Hello,
https://developers.google.com/chrome/mobile/docs/data-compression
NOTE that I really don't like this because a lot of server already compress data so that going through the proxy will only slow things down.
Ok.. Thx

Antenna to increase speed
You could use an antenna (should your phone support it) to increase signal strength and thus speed. I have used 900mhz Yagi antennas to increase range. Of course, when already in reception the download speed is increased.

[Q] I'm being throttled

My ISP is throttling my phone's port on my home wifi... I'm getting 0.40mbps down when I should be getting 15mbps down. How do I unthrottle myself?
You may not be able to. In the meantime, switch to 2G. It might be faster.
I think there is some confusion here. He is saying his home isp and not his cell provider. If it is, check your router settings.
Also switching to 2g, for me at least, did not help speeds after t mobile started throttling me today. I was getting dialup speeds on both edge and hspa. I guess it could help with battery life though.

I thought port 80 was http traffic, wouldn't that mean that everything on your network is getting throttled? I need more info lol
It its the only thing on your network that is getting throttled, check any qos settings on the router. Did you buy the router yourself or using one from the isp? I would think its impossible for an isp to single out a single device on a router since 192.*.*.* ips are nonroutable... Meaning they are invisible to the internet.
+1 on QoS, also check your signal strength and do a few speed tests

Agreed. Your ISP can't throttle any single device on your home internal network. Reboot your modem and router and see if there are still issues. Either that or reboot your phone. It's either a phone, modem or router issue.

And another thing...why do you think you should be getting 15 down? I'm assuming you are using cable internet, which means your connection is shared with your neighbors. For instance, I have a 20 down and 2 up connection. However, it varies depending on how busy the network is in the neighborhood.

And another thing, lol, more info is needed. Are any other devices on your network having a problem? How long ago did this start? Anything change configuration wise when this issue started?

Loss of data?

I added a line to my girls account to get this phone. I've had problem since day one that I foolishly never took care of before the fourteen days. If I go into certain areas of town or sometimes even just on its own regardless I'll lose 3G and get error code 67. Updating prl or profile don't work, airplane mode, restarting the phone, nothing. It either kicks back in by its self in a couple hours or sprint has to be called to refresh the data. Anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if it's just my phone or if it's my account. Happens across all roms and on stock too.

Are they upgrading the towers in your area? Here in Denver 3g keeps going in and out, 4g lte finally started popping up about 20 blocks north of my house
I've looked into it several times and I don't think so. My city isn't even on the list of cities scheduled to receive new towers soon. That would be great lol but I don't think it's the case.

Rochester /Upstate NY..... Yeah about the only way to ever fix the problem is by calling Sprint or waiting for it to fix it's self whenever it feels like but it seems to happen again and again regardless. I forgot to include this usually just initiates when the phone starts updating the prl and profile by its self (can't figure out if it's by areas I go into or completely random) and either fails or loses data even after being successful.
