Straight Talk speeds - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

I wanted to get an input on what speeds everybody is getting using Straight Talk. I know the speeds depend on coverage area and all but the speeds I am getting using the speedtest app seem a bit off. As you can see all my download speeds are the same they never vary only the upload speeds come up deIfferent this is what got me wondering if I am getting accurate speeds. Please note your speeds and where you are from. I am in NJ and about 14 miles from NYC.
My download speeds always come up as 0.01 Mbps and my upload are between 0.03 - 0.07 Mbps. Those are just some very odd numbers. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the speedtest app. Hope someone can shed some light on this. And before anyone says anything, i know Straight Talk speeds are not as fast as regular ATT or even GoPhone for those that got it to work with the tab. I just want to compare Straight Talk speeds. Thanks.

OK it seems that the speed test app does not support the tab, I am stating this because I used my tab to test my 3g speed on their website and it worked (see picture) the one thing I noticed is that the Mac address of the tab to test the ping comes up as being in Kansas and not where I live, NJ. Just want to note that the highest download I got was close to 6 but upload only close to 1.

Try the FCC speed test app. That allows you to change locations in the settings.

Ego download speeds

I just got me evo yesterday and I am loving every minute of it. I was just wondering if maybe you guys think my download speeds are slow or on par. I am using non WiFi 4 bar 3g and getting dload speeds of less than .5 mbps. Is that normal? Anything I can do to improve my performance? Thanks

Unfortunately, Sprint's network seems to have taken a beating. Even worse, if you have rooted your phone, your PRI gets dropped to 1.34, which is a lot slower than 1.40 from what I've heard - I haven't noticed a difference in data speeds between the stock phone and what I have now but that may just be my area.
BTW, I am testing an average of 600-800 kbps using the Xtreme Labs Speedtest from the market and about 200 upload.
It seems to vary a lot for me. I get from .8 mps to 1.9 mps on average. On wifi though, I have a 1.5 mps connection, and that is usually about what I get.
Sent from under the bed using XDA App on my Evo
I get 1.5mbps to 2.X+mbps on 3g easily.
I get around 1-2 mbps on 3G and 3ish on WiFi depending on signal. I have a wireless n router at work and I've seen over 7 mbps on that.

Speedtest.net app question

Alright.... I'm on my mt4g, and when I run a speedtest on here, it says my server is out of Washington state... this morning, it says its in Utah... only problem is, I'm in fort worth, tx... even with the Hsdpa w/e signal, max dl speed I've been able to hit is around 2.94 mbps... usually, its only about .94 to 1.20... any ideas why its doing this?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
In seattle here and it started doing this to me yesterday as well. They're probably just having some problems. It used to pick Seattle servers just fine
Do you have the new sim cards? With my old sim I was get getting .93m and with new sim im getting 2.0m+ on average and I'm not in hspda+ area
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
the problem I seem to have is that each consecutive test, the speed gets lower, lol. I started at 1.8Mbps down. it picked the correct server for my location, but it would do what you are explaining on my sprint epic (on 3g).
Sometimes when we are working on a switch, we re route the traffic through another switch. This may be what is going on here.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
It's highly dependent on where you're at. At home I get around 6Mbps, but if I travel 4 exits down the freeway, I get 1.2Mbps.
But yeah, the actual SpeedTest app is weird. My friend and I both installed it and my phone shows my local city as the nearest server. His phone shows like Dallas, TX or something 1000 miles away.
Just change the server in the speedtest app settings to whatever city u want
SpeedTest app selects servers based on IP -- chances are T-Mobile has (for whatever reason) assigned your phone an IP of a different geo-location.

update: Was still getting connected to servers in montana so I just uninstalled and re-installed speedtest and it put me back on the correct Seattle server. I'd suggest trying that.

Im from Fort Worth as well and the same here. I used to be able and find a white settlement or fort worth server that were either 18 mi or 24 mi away but now there is cities in Washington and Oregon.

Speedtest ping?

I should select the server in NY since I live in nyc right? Well I get horrible ping on both 3g and 4g and it lags a lot while DL'ing and UL'ing, but I get (relatively) good speeds at the end.
On my hero, speedtest gave ~30 ms ping but on the epic its 100-200....why?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Bump?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That said ping varies by how many hops you have to do, it is possible that something changed on the servers end or on sprints end as well, or your tower is using a different bandwidth provider..overall 100ms is not that bad...Its what I usually get on my TP2 as well..and I'm also in NY...
Only thing you can prob do is update your PRL maybe?

going to need more info about your phone...ex...version,rooted or non rooted, any kernel...like that...
just did mine and it was 2.53 dl and 1.08 up...with nero3 beta...
...and are you using Speedtest to measure 3G or your wifi or what?
I'm sitting in my house right now in a major metropolitan area and the 3G speed on my stock Vibrant is about 4.2 Mbps down and 1.8 Mbps up. When I turn on the phone's wifi connection to my Fios network, I get about 22-24 Mbps down and about 3-4 Mbps up. If I move around or go outside, these speeds will vary.

It appears as though you have exceeded the 5gb data limit. After this billing cycle is over, your connection will return to normal.

You should know. You would have gotten a text.
Jesus...
Or you can reboot and try again. You also might be in an area with a high amount of data traffic. For example when i'm at disneyland, I get full bars but my data speeds are crazy slow. It's probably the same when at a sporting event. 40k people and at least half of them with smart phones trying to access the internets will cause a slow down. But like the other guys said, we're going to need more information.
Ditto, sounds like your being throttled. Try it on wifi. Remember, download **** on wifi if you can. Don't go rom crazy on 3G.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Recently I was in phoenix and the 3g was full bars buy totally unreliable. I switched to edge and it was three times faster than hspa
You might want to switch to only gsm network and see if that helps

No. The fastest you will see from this phone is a little over 5Mb's down (in near perfect conditions) and i'm not sure about upload but the fastest i've ever had was 1.8Mb up.
Even if it were available over the T-Mobile ? Why or why not...just trying to get a better understanding as to why over wifi and not over the network IF it were available

kinda need more. did you have WAYY higher data speeds before? your problem could be 1 of 2 things...maybe both.
1)Bad coverage
2)data throttle
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872570
check my thread about a temporary fix for throttling. its just easy as changing the APNs. i'm working on a permanent fix by creating a services.jar mod,but its not working out so well.
This is ungodly slow? 4 speed

How are you getting that high of internet speeds using your FIOS network? I have FIOS 30Mbps download and 15Mbps upload, and the highest download speed I've gotten on my Vibrant is 13Mbps. I am using a D-Link Wireless N Router (2.4 and 5ghz) which consistently gives my wireless computers 30Mbps, but not my cell phone.
I'm curious to hear what radio you're using and your current setup (router, router settings, service plan, phone settings, etc). If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know what you're doing to get above 13Mbps on Wifi.

Just did mine in New Port Richey, Florida.
5.73 Mbps Download
1.48 Mbps Upload
I believe our phones are capable of 7.2Mbps download on our Hsdpa network connection. Most of the new t-mobile phones that are coming out are capable of about double the download and upload speeds that we can actually achieve.

Why is my G2 getting 6 mbps on wifi while my mytouch 4G slide gets 19 mbps on the same wifi?
This seems weird because the G2 has hit 17+ mbps on other wifi anyone have any idea why its getting low speed compare to the slide?

I have noticed my G2 not getting a full 12mbps from my wifi router that is 15 feet away it only gets like 8mbps or so, whereas the computer right next to the phone gets the full 12mbps - so I know just what you are referring to!
I have not yet figured out the cause myself

Did your phones both connect to the same server when you performed the test? Perhaps that may have contributed to the difference in speed.

You misunderstood my post. Speedtest connects to a server usually hosted by a company somewhere nearby to perform the test, and the mobile app uses GPS to find the closest. Perhaps your phones connected to different servers for some reason. If you run a few more tests on both at different times of the day then you can rule it out.
