Hello everyone,
i've got a TrekStor Surftab ventos 10.1 (10,1", 16GB memory) and a Google Nexus 7 2012 (7", 8GB memory).
I bought a movie on Google Play in HD, and i can watch it HD on my Nexus, and on the Surftab its not in HD,
because it hasn't got a HD screen. I want so save it on my device(s), but the movie is 2GB (HD) and i need
the memory on the nexus. When i save it on the SurfTab, it's in SD. And SD quality looks ugly on a 10,1" screen.
Now my question:
Can i force GP Movies to download it in HD? I tried to change the DPI from 160 to 300, but it's still in SD.
Please help :/

I read somewhere in this forum my fone plays 720px hd videos (normal profile) .. recently I downloaded a hd video from YouTube (keepvid.com) and transfered it to my phone .. when I try to play it from my gallery, I can hear the sound but the video is blank as in just a black screen .. the video quality is as shown : 1280 x 720px h264 29.967fps 1999kbps bit rate and audio: aac 124kbps 48 khz .. anyone knows wat the problem is or am I missing out something ? maybe because of my class2 SD card ? currently using class2 8gb micro SD .. I can play 800 x 480px videos though ..

its because the nexus one only supports up to 800 x 480 resolution i believe.
Playback of HD vids 720p isn't yet supported... Its a part of Desire ROM by MoDaCo but the feature is still unusable on n1..... but soon it will be... check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636048 and read the So what works?
You can play 720p videos. You have to convert your 720 with handbreak. Use the ipod profile on handbreak and resize the video back to the original *** x 720 resolution and nexus will play them...note nexus wont actually run at 720p no matter what since the screen is only 480x800 its not possible.
Yes Nexus can easily play 720p videos.
But it can't play "main profile", neither "extended profile" or "high profile", only "baseline profile" .
First of all you got to ask yourself, why even try to play 720p?
That high of resolution on screen this size seems pointless to me. The 800X480 resolution looks great. Maybe people have told me that my DVD quality encoding looks like HD. I just tell them yep while laughing in my head.
Higher resolution only starts to matter when you have a bigger screen.

its not just about playing it on the nexus.. u see I want to be able to use the same hd videos I watch on computer and the nexus .. that way I don't have to encode my videos again just to make it work on my fone .. make sense getting the best out of both worlds? I have been trying to use handbrake but I think I messed up with the details .. I will try again using ipod profile ..
As a test I copied a 1080p mkv file and tried to play with the stock app but couldn't.
Can someone independently verify this?

Not tried but I dont think it would as it records 720p so I would think that its the max until new phone comes out.
He plays 1080p files only with other players, with fps around... 2.
This is something I was going to try tonight, so far I have played a 720p xvid which the phone breezed. What was the video bitrate that you tried?

I've also had tried to play one with the stock app as well with no success, retrying 2 now...yeah, I get unsupported file type, I think that stopped me from loading more onto the phone. However, I have successfully played these onto my TV through DLNA.
Maybe I'll try to load more later.
i'm quite sure if you use rock player you could
but it'll be slow as hell
To be fair the specs always said 720p playback
what's the point in playing 1080p content on a 480 x 800 screen?
I'm curious, does any other phone play 1080p without being very slow?
Not really a complaint just an observation as I was planning on putting some of my kids movies onto the phone for the rainy day and I have some 720p as well as 1080p movies.
Just means that I have to alter those before I put them on the phone

at 1080p you wont be able to keep many movies in your SD card
you'll have a better luck at 720p
I managed to playback this 720p @ 60fps flawlessly , not 1080p but damn it is awesome.

I'd output them to a TV, I've had mixed results, but perfect 1080p playback on a TV is highly desirable.
i converted a 1080p .mkv file into a .mp4 format on kies and it just convested to 1280x720 but it still runs Amazing good sound perfect picture
still not solved to get 1080 playable?? i tried following and i´m still out of luck
Hi i successfully got a working ubuntu on my microsd class 10 32 gb card
i used a samba fileshare to mount the huge partion (ext4) on my sgs
if i try to play a 17gb 1080p file its always jerky with any player.
i also got successfully connected thru otg adapter my usb harddrive (with an usb hub) formatted to ext3. (can be connected to any windows pc via ext2fsd btw)
there are fullhd movies also on it and sgs2 is still jerky while playing any movie
its OC to 1600Mhz ... GPU also tried to OC to 400 Mhz still out of luck.
so i wanna watch fullhd (1080p) movies over my phone streaming via the mhl adapter to my tv 42".
booth wont work microsd card and usb hdd ... CPU and GPU OC wont help either.
Asking a bit much I think. I was floored at how flawlessly it can play 720p in the first place.
Get an SGS2?

Emmm.... this is a SGS1 (I9000) thread and not SGS2 (I9100) thread.
I heard SGS2 could play 1080p movies that have bitrate up to 24mbit, you should check that in your own forum.

With SGS's only option being RCA with the max resolution of 768x576, I would also like to know why would you want more than 1080p.
And for all the other that are wondering why your SGS doesn't play 1080p movies, the answer is very simple:
Too low hardware!!!
1080p movies need at least dual-core CPU.
So, get over it, it ain't gonna happen, so stop asking!
/thread closed!
Actually afaik it's GPU support that would be needed. The SGS would choke on 720p if the GPU didn't handle the decoding. Want to see trying playing it in something like rockplayer rather than the stock video player. Slide show without GPU acceleration.

Hi,
Did anyone here managed to play HD videos of 1080p or 720p format? I only managed to play 360p on my phone.
Not possible..Im mean they will play in Rockplayer 1.5.5 ARm6...but will lag sufficiently and not allow you to enjoy movie smoothly...
I think about 620 p should be fine in Rockplayer..or yxplayer...not above that..you will have to resize them...
Even 720p is quite laggy with rock player. Processor is just not fast enough
Why would you want to when the screen doesn't have the resolution to show any difference?

@bullchicken: it's just that my friends had gave me lots of 1080p HD MVs but I couldn't played it. He is able to play all HD videos in his Samsung Galaxy though. Maybe you're right due to legend processor limitation but i'm wondering if there is any customized/tweaked ROM which able to support it.

Google it: tablet apps. There's a whole website dedicated to tab apps.
I use these: Evernote, Quickoffice HD.
Pulse is a really great tablet app for news articles etc. Takes advantage of the bigger screen quite nicely.

Wow... Thanks... Mx video is the best video player i've tried I just have one question. Is there any way the xoom can play 1080p mkv video files. They lag. 720p video plays perfectly. If there is no way to play 1080p mkv's, is there a format of full hd video file that can be played on the xoom. I know that full hd videos have a larger resolution than the display on xoom, but i have a lot of recorded full hd videos that i would like to keep on the xoom (so i can copy them to other computers if needed) but there is no point if the xoom can't play them and i would not like to convert to 720p. I'm willing to convert to some other 1080p format that can be played on the xoom.
Is there anything i can do?

here is what i do. for 720p mkv, diceplayer will play the video flawless. for 1080p, i convert my movies (they are about 4gb per blu ray movie) to mp4 using dvdcatalyst, which has a few xoom presets. so yes, you can convert a 1080p video to mp4 and still keep it as 1080p. it should play with no problems using mxvideoplayer.
I prefer Dice player over Mx player. Try it out. Never had problems.

yep I bought MX and it had a few juddery moments with some video... Dice player was very smooth.. I bought that then used Mizuu as a front end and set the default player to Dice...
Mizuu is great! the closest thing to XBMC! (looking)! downloads movie info, cast, case thumb and fanart.... coupled up with a 64Gb micro SD card loaded up with media! I'm ready for my holiday!!
Files by zenfield is very nice for file managing
I use kingsoft office for word processing, although not strictly tablet optimised it is the best in my opinion and contains the most settings, its also free which is an added bonus.
I like quick office HD 5, but I wonder, does anyone know if the galaxy not uses special hardware or is it just an s-pen and software. That app/port would be intriguing. BTW every XDAer needs xda premium hd

The apps I find myself using most that make good use of the tablet landscape mode are GMail, Google Reader, Pulse News, CNN, YouTube and TweetCaster.
On the gaming side of things, I think Samurai vs Zombies looks and plays wonderfully on a tablet

Well, I use Rockplayer and Moboplayer to play my movies. My experience has been mixed. Some movies ocassionally produce some lag but others play smoothly. I attribute it to bad encoding more than anything. Otherwise Xoom is definitely capable of playing full HD videos but it downscales it to 720p on the fly and hence conversion should not be necessary. I have about 5 video players for this reason. Its a software shortcoming and different players play different mkv files properly. Till now I have not faced the need to convert my HD videos. In fact, I watched the movie Tangled in blu-ray 1080p format while reading it from an external hard drive and it played as smoothly as any other video.

Hey all I have two questions
1. What resolution should I change movies off itunes and amazon mp4's to to work the best on the Nexus 7
I know the screen is 1280 X 800.. do I want to use that resolution for the actual movies?
2.So I recently bought a hd movie from the playstore which I'm able to watch in HD on my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7.. However when I tried to watch it on my computer (through the playstore website) I noticed it would only display at 480p..
Does anyone know if you can watch HD movies from the playstore on your computer? Or is it just HD on android devices..?
Sorry I didn't know which forum to post this
Thank you
