Hi,
Did anyone here managed to play HD videos of 1080p or 720p format? I only managed to play 360p on my phone.
Not possible..Im mean they will play in Rockplayer 1.5.5 ARm6...but will lag sufficiently and not allow you to enjoy movie smoothly...
I think about 620 p should be fine in Rockplayer..or yxplayer...not above that..you will have to resize them...
Even 720p is quite laggy with rock player. Processor is just not fast enough
Why would you want to when the screen doesn't have the resolution to show any difference?

@bullchicken: it's just that my friends had gave me lots of 1080p HD MVs but I couldn't played it. He is able to play all HD videos in his Samsung Galaxy though. Maybe you're right due to legend processor limitation but i'm wondering if there is any customized/tweaked ROM which able to support it.
What type of video files, does the Xoom play?
I would like to just drag my iTunes HD Movies that dont have DRM play them on the XOOM will this be possible?
Please let me know I was able to do this with my Galaxy S.

They "Might" play, however the Xoom has issuers with High-Profile video.
The file format (MP4, h264/aac) is supported by the Xoom, but most of the more advanced settings used in iTunes files are not supported, which results in either non-playable files or stuttering playback.
Rockplayer lite works pretty good for avi movie

Google it: tablet apps. There's a whole website dedicated to tab apps.
I use these: Evernote, Quickoffice HD.
Pulse is a really great tablet app for news articles etc. Takes advantage of the bigger screen quite nicely.

Wow... Thanks... Mx video is the best video player i've tried I just have one question. Is there any way the xoom can play 1080p mkv video files. They lag. 720p video plays perfectly. If there is no way to play 1080p mkv's, is there a format of full hd video file that can be played on the xoom. I know that full hd videos have a larger resolution than the display on xoom, but i have a lot of recorded full hd videos that i would like to keep on the xoom (so i can copy them to other computers if needed) but there is no point if the xoom can't play them and i would not like to convert to 720p. I'm willing to convert to some other 1080p format that can be played on the xoom.
Is there anything i can do?

Not that I know of. However that does not mean it cannot be done. Search tje forums and net. You might find your answer.

here is what i do. for 720p mkv, diceplayer will play the video flawless. for 1080p, i convert my movies (they are about 4gb per blu ray movie) to mp4 using dvdcatalyst, which has a few xoom presets. so yes, you can convert a 1080p video to mp4 and still keep it as 1080p. it should play with no problems using mxvideoplayer.
I prefer Dice player over Mx player. Try it out. Never had problems.

yep I bought MX and it had a few juddery moments with some video... Dice player was very smooth.. I bought that then used Mizuu as a front end and set the default player to Dice...
Mizuu is great! the closest thing to XBMC! (looking)! downloads movie info, cast, case thumb and fanart.... coupled up with a 64Gb micro SD card loaded up with media! I'm ready for my holiday!!
Files by zenfield is very nice for file managing
I use kingsoft office for word processing, although not strictly tablet optimised it is the best in my opinion and contains the most settings, its also free which is an added bonus.
I like quick office HD 5, but I wonder, does anyone know if the galaxy not uses special hardware or is it just an s-pen and software. That app/port would be intriguing. BTW every XDAer needs xda premium hd

The apps I find myself using most that make good use of the tablet landscape mode are GMail, Google Reader, Pulse News, CNN, YouTube and TweetCaster.
On the gaming side of things, I think Samurai vs Zombies looks and plays wonderfully on a tablet

Well, I use Rockplayer and Moboplayer to play my movies. My experience has been mixed. Some movies ocassionally produce some lag but others play smoothly. I attribute it to bad encoding more than anything. Otherwise Xoom is definitely capable of playing full HD videos but it downscales it to 720p on the fly and hence conversion should not be necessary. I have about 5 video players for this reason. Its a software shortcoming and different players play different mkv files properly. Till now I have not faced the need to convert my HD videos. In fact, I watched the movie Tangled in blu-ray 1080p format while reading it from an external hard drive and it played as smoothly as any other video.

Hello everyone,
i've got a TrekStor Surftab ventos 10.1 (10,1", 16GB memory) and a Google Nexus 7 2012 (7", 8GB memory).
I bought a movie on Google Play in HD, and i can watch it HD on my Nexus, and on the Surftab its not in HD,
because it hasn't got a HD screen. I want so save it on my device(s), but the movie is 2GB (HD) and i need
the memory on the nexus. When i save it on the SurfTab, it's in SD. And SD quality looks ugly on a 10,1" screen.
Now my question:
Can i force GP Movies to download it in HD? I tried to change the DPI from 160 to 300, but it's still in SD.
Please help :/
Many Android devices are now getting this option under the resolution options but on the Player it still just has 720p/1080p non 60FPS. Is there any way to force it to play it?
Not at the moment but you could try to sideload the Sony tv version of YouTube which you can find at apkmirror

What is it called? I can't find it. Does the Sony TV version have 60fps?
I've tried looking for the app but I can't find it either - tried looking in my download folders and saved apks. The Sony TV version was supposed to have a better UX and deal better with higher bitrate video.
I think this is it. Found in my google drive: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B74pS2tbwueaLWxIbTZxUnhTWkk
The nexus player can't deal with 4K so it won't be available on it - the high bitrate would cause pixelation and buffering. The only shield tv is the only android tv system that I know that can play 4K.
