I've been looking at accessories for the G2, now that I've pre-ordered it on Sprint. And I noticed some cases have a hole on the back near the camera, above the flash, and some don't. The Verizon version cases don't have the hole. But looking at Sprint's page at the phone, I noticed the discrepancy between the black and white variants:

You can see a case with the hole here.
No hole on the white version. Both versions have a hole on the top, which I assumed was a mic used for noise cancellation. The Engadget review mentions "Voice calls were also clear, with a trio of mics helping to cancel out unwanted noise" and AndroidPolice says "a second noise-cancelling microphone appears to be on the back of the AT&T variant that is not present on the Verizon or international versions I have." But why would it be missing on the white version?

It's not the color, it's the carrier. The black case is from Sprint who has the mic. The white case is from VZW with no mic. Both carriers have both colors.

Huh? Verizon has a white G2? The photos in the OP don't match Verizon buttons.
Verizon has a mic on the top.
Odd they would've moved mic around based on color. More than likely they're different models as well color.

The extra hole on the back is for the at&t variant. They decided to throw an extra mic on their variant for voice canceling or so they can listen to you at all times or something.
Lol @ last part. Anyone check if CIQ is routed to that mic? Still surprised it isn't on Verizon's.

My TMo version does not have that mike there, either. And yet, the tech21 case that TMo sells in their store, has a cutout for it. As well as the zagg protectors they sell do too.
I saw a YT video where a guy was saying that the G2 had three (3) microphones for the Camera's Audio Zoom feature to work. One on top opposite to the IR Blaster window, one in the middle near the flash, and one in the bottom (one of the grilles). Yes G2s are not stereo!
So yes, my BLACK T-Mobile G2 (D801) does not have the middle mic as the OP described. I found that Audio Zoom (however gimmicky) does not work or I don't notice it at all.
Cheers!
Have you looked under the battery cover?......
No I have not. The last time I pulled the cover partially to release a jammed SIM tray, I was unaware of the missing hole.
I will take a look some other time...
Cheers!

I have a Black one from Wind Mobile in Canada and I think it may be the same phone as the T-Mobile one as it's also a D801 and doesn't have that middle mic by the flash either.
Yet I'm still sure the Verizon model had noise cancellation too. Does the AT&T version have 3 Mics?

For noise cancellation only two mics are required. Three are used for Audio Zoom...

Does that mean we can all have white Galaxy S'?
Isn't that the media player version? basically just ours but without the phone radio.

No, look at the photo sharply, it has a "phone" button. The media player device has media player, video player etc instead
it is just a backplate
the entire front is our screen
there is no much of a case for the phone,
the case is just the back plate
the sides are just a bezel to clip on to the back plate
our phone is the slimest of all

is really hard to see the buttons if they are black or white without a better quality picture
I can find plenty of front/back pictures but none of the side!
I also found this
So there are 2 possibilities of what the white version will look like!
is funny how many of the cell phone carriers will call minor things as "exclusive"
it's just a white shell
any one can get it from ebay retailers and choose the colour they want.
it's not so exclusive anymore to have white.
unless it has a White front plate

Just to clear things up for you all curious about the new white Galaxy S.
It has a white battery cover and body underneath is white too.
I have just received my white Galaxy S and I could say it does look like an iPhone 3GS but it's far better than that.
My first impressions are good, especially for the GPS, but further testing will be done.
Hi, first post everyone Has anyone tested out the new white Galaxy S yet? I recieved one earlier this week from a well known company online(i already had it in black but wanted it in white) but when making a call there was like a humming/buzzing coming from the earpiece, thought it might be because the volume was on max but still the same problem, tried changing sim to no avail. I went to the shop the next day to return it and exchanged it for another one in the same colour, got home and it still has the same problem as first handset. So im wondering what it could be as i bought the first one online and the second one i recieved was instore so they cant be both from the same batch could they? Is it a software problem it came with Froyo 2.2 JPO? Dont know if its worth swapping for another one, really like the white though, any ideas anyone? Thanks alot.

Hi again, earlier today swapped the phone again and exactly the samem problem, im stumped, do you guys think it may be a software problem or a hardware problem with the white galaxy s's. Would appreciate any ideas especially if you own the white one. Cheers.
Hey guys, when I first saw the Verizon edition of our gorgeous phone I nearly cried! Those large tactile and innovative buttons had been replaced with tiny indistinguishable ones, not only that but they also increased the heft it to the point where we now have to have cases specifically designed for the Verizon variant, all this just so Verizon could be "Different" and "Exclusive" Anyway down to my question. Do you guys think theres anyway to retrofit out Verizon phones so that physically, they are the same as the other variants? Rip out the QI charging bits, buttons and case. Then replace with the AT&T Buttons, case ect?

I would think that you would also need the back inside shell as well because the camera bezel itself is also different. Why do you want change it? Everyone else seems to want the wireless charging.

From what I can tell the bezzel around the camera is attached to the same piece as the rear keys. So if I could fine the piece used for att id be set. As to why I dont like the design I feel the same as the author of this review http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...-gets-caught-living-in-the-shadows-of-giants/
"If you're thinking of getting the Verizon version, throw out everything nice I just said about the back. The Verizon variant has a different design that removes the great looking back pattern and buttons, instead using versions that could best be described as "cheaper." The diagonal inlay is gone. It's been replaced with a flat honeycomb pattern that isn't nearly as pronounced, and the sleek looking buttons were swapped out for a tacky sliver plastic. It really looks like Verizon saw the original version and told LG to bring the price down a bit. The result is something that doesn't look nearly as slick as the original." I think the entire point of having buttons on the back is to make them more easily accessible, which is what LG tried to do before verizon F'ed it up.
I guess nobody realizes that they use a smaller footprint for buttons because of the wireless charging coil.

We understand it, I just dont think its worth it lol. Id rather have a phone the way it was designed and all the other case options that come with it. But seeing how opposed everyone is. I must be overreacting.
I'm sure that people have made that connection. I can see why the OP wants it to be without the wireless charge g and to look the way it was originally designed.
I would have the wirelss charging with those "tiny indistinguishable" buttons if I could!
My guess is by the time you mod the at&t back panels to fit the square camera bezel and ensure the big buttons/notification LED align correctly it would look ugly. I rarely use the rear buttons. When I do I have a LG G2 Ballistic SG Black Case (VERIZON) SG1233-A065 on it, that covers the buttons with rubber buttons that work well for me. I don't touch the camera lens either, and it does not bother me that I covered up the notification light.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
I thought the same about the look of the Verizon variant. From my studies of the differences on the internals, I'm not entirely sure if the addition of the charging coil would cause for a change in thickness enough to prevent a retrofit into the at&t/whoever models. I've been looking and looking, and immensely surprised at how little I can find. Google is not my friend this night haha

I bought mine from Expansys. I had to change roms just to get LTE on the LTE model. so I voided my warranty by default. They offered to swap the handset, but I think they don't realise the g900m they sell doesn't ahve lte enabled, even after the OTA update. so I get to live with it. It's slowly shifting. eventually it will be away from the image sensor
I just really hope it's nothing to do with the water resistance. I'm already considering this may last samsung phone after 9 different galaxy s/note phones... luckily I don't typically bring it in water with my so it's not that big of a deal, but if it does happen and it leaks there.. samsung will be dead to me.
Mine was literally in the middle yesterday. So maybe by tomorrow it will be clear again. It's definitely related to heat. Either that or it wasn't glued in the first place.

ya, I've been debating about doing this tbh. I've changed glass before in other peoples' phones.. but I always had a new piece to replace the broken piece.. basically a spare.. I dont' have a spare if I mess up heh. ya I'll probably do this later. and maybe re-glue it lol...
I'm going to try this now heh.. will report back shortly. I took a look at a video online and it appears that the ring is accessible once the glass is removed...
---------- Post added at 05:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:47 PM ----------
so I just took that little o-ring out. wtf is it there for? lol, it was almost off the lens anyway. I only pried it open enough to get a needle in and take the ring out, I didn't take the whole thing off. I doubt it's as water resistant but who knows...
ADDITION: so it appears to narrow the field of view slightly. I don't take selfies, I may have a hangouts video call once a week (usually on my computer, but if I'm out I'd like to be able to do this..). I notice if my finger goes over the edge of the top of phone (but not over lens) it pics up my finger, where as it wouldn't have before.. big deal. I'd rather not have to take it apart again, so the ring is gone lol.
I hit it with the hair dryer once after pressing it down... going to do it again shortly, its' completely cooled. just hitting it again to be on the safe side. didn't cause any damage to phone so was rather easy just make sure to be patient. I had pry tools from old phones, but I wouldn't recommend taking the entire glass off with it...

Ouch, $70 is pretty steep. Think I'll have to pass on that one, even though orange is my favorite color $50 would be more reasonable, given the reduced longevity.

That's $35 a leather cover. I think fairly reasonable.
Does anybody know if I have an international H815 which US carrier model should I pick? Its either the Sprint or the rest of the US carriers.
What makes the Sprint ones unique? When selecting carrier, any carrier other than Sprint, and you click a case it says for Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, US Cellular only. When you click Sprint as the carrier then select a color, it says for Sprint only.

July 1st they are $70 each (when you buy 2). And $70 for me as I only favor the orange one. So no, not reasonable. Not much of a sale either, I suppose that's why it lasts a whole month. Rumors had them in the 50-60 range. $70 was a bit shocking. I will wait for a price drop.
Less than 9 leather backs and you could've bought the phone outright...
I'd gladly pay $70 for some kind of color temp adjustment though - tested my display tonight with my colormunki and it's at 7900k... waaaaay too blue.
No way will I pay anything more than $20 each

I prefer the plastic back. Would have paid for a white ceramic or gold plastic cover.

I was hoping to see a smooth brown leather. Like another couple of people here, I'll be keeping an eye on ebay for a less-expensive option.
If these had wireless charging built-in, I'd definitely get it. $70 for a non-QI back is insane.
Also, what is the point in selecting the carrier? Will it just apply that carriers branding? I'd rather have no Verizon or AT&T logo, is there anything on the T-Mobile backs?
What, no black? The wait continues...
Also, thank you for sharing!
I'm wondering whether the backs are interchangeable between varients. Maybe I'll take my VZW G4 to T-mobile and see if they will let me try on one of their backs.
$70.00 and they do not even include a wireless charging fitment? Haha, what?

I was wondering the same on NFC+Qi or just NFC, there is no information I can find on the site either way.
I can see carrier specific for ATT vs other versions if it does have wirless charging, due to PMA vs Qi.
The QuickCircle cases have Qi/NFC antennas, dont know why these LG backs wouldnt.
With both the note 2 and note 4, the AT&T versions had a higher cost than the pretty much identical T-mobile versions, but had no headphones (and don't get me started about the locked bootloader). Is there any news on whether they are going to do this again?
I have not seen it either way, but my Note 5 DID come with headphones. In fact, I had to do an exchange on my Note 5 in the first week, and the sales rep said they can't take the headphones back (hygiene issues) and let me keep the old ones and I got a second set with my new phone.
BTW.. they didn't quite steal our headphones. They never got them in the first place. I am sure there was some consideration on price from Samsung to ship them to AT&T without headphones. I used to image some minimum wage person picking out the headphones and tossing them into a pile somewhere... but obviously that isn't how it worked.

Yeah, thus the quotes on steal... Again AT&T is charging $50 more than T-mobile for the same phone (same as w/ the Note 4). If they don't include headphones again, it really makes no sense to me since AT&T doesn't even sell the Samsung headphones.
I really hate when they change box and keep headphones.

I also hate that they put in cheap box and remove the headphones.

With both the note 2 and note 4, the AT&T versions had a higher cost than the pretty much identical T-mobile versions, but had no headphones (and don't get me started about the locked bootloader). Is there any news on whether they are going to do this again?

I'm pretty sure I received headphones with my S7 Edge when I bought it. So you should get it with the Note 7 as well.
Plus as Venom0642 so kindly referenced above - it seems to indicate so on their site.

Samsung box...
The Note series typically comes in the orange/white ATT box, not the fancy Samsung one that the S6 and S7 models came in.. we'll see this year if that changes..

My note 5 box looked like....um... I don't know, was it, orange, black... Oh, yeah, after I go the phone I haven't seen the box since. I understand that everyone has different priorities, etc, but the box... really? Of all the thing to get your panties in a bunch over, the box?!?!?
Sorry I had to get it out... the orange box complaints almost put the IR blaster and the removable battery complaints in focus.

I may be wrong, but I believe the whole point is this, based on reading this thread:
The black box is Samsung's box, which means that it was packaged by Samsung.
The ATT box is a repackaged box. So ATT received the phones from Samsung and put them in the ATT boxes afterwards. In other words, the boxing wasn't done in the Samsung factory.
It just doesn't seem right to me based on my understanding. I'd think that if anything, the phones would be boxed at factory, but using the ATT boxes. Why ship the phones and pay ATT employees to unbox them and rebox them, when you can just ask Samsung to initially box them in a different box since they'll be boxing them anyways. There's no real change in Samsung's assembly line (unless they have to print the boxes too), and you skip a step (reboxing).
I don't know. I may just be misunderstanding everything completely. Lol

AT&T isn't pulling things out of boxes and replacing them. That wouldn't make any sense. A customer as large as AT&T would just have Samsung put them in the AT&T box to begin with. There aren't dumpsters behind the AT&T warehouse full of Samsung boxes.

Will come in blue box and will have headphones.
Not trying to anal but att charges the most for there phones and seem to save money on packaging and removing headphones. I just think its real shady.

Here a conversation I had with customer service regarding this issue.
You'll get headphones. No worries
Pretty sure we will be getting this (not my picture)...
