[Q] Auto Network Switch - where is it located ? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Where is the Auto-Network Switch located in Settings ? In my WIFI settings I have no ADVANCED setting to check, only a "Notify me" setting is present. Under each network connection there is an advance switch but it doesn't have anything for auto-network.
Started getting "unstable network" errors and I notice the device is scanning every 5-10 seconds even though my wifi signal is very strong.

You don't have advanced when you hit the menu button? That's where you'll find the auto network setting...

Menu button within Setting didn't dawn on me but yeah it makes sense, I guess. Thanks given.

When I check the Auto Network setting box, I disconnect from my wi-fi entirely, even thought I am right in front of it.
Any other ideas of how I can get rid of that 'Your Internet connection is unstable,..' notification?
Thanks!

This is pretty irritating it has stopped me from connecting to a "slow" wi-fi network when I had 0 cell signal

Ah, I posted a separate thread about this. I am receiving the unstable connection warnings as well, also with good signal (or certainly should be good signal where I'm located relative to the routers).
Wonder if some of us have bad phones in this regard .. will have to keep watching for others with the issue / possible solutions.

Noob question about data setting

Hi guys,
Got my HD yesterday...love it x100000. My first android so im still getting to grips with it all but what a fantastic phone.
Anyway my question is just about the data connection set up. I was just looking through the settings making sure everything is how I like it and I stumbled across this:
Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks and at the bottom there is an option which says 'Enable always-on mobile data'.
What is this and what does it mean? It says it uses more power on some mobile networks so do I turn it on or turn it off?
I have a wifi and mobile network widget on my home screen cause I like to be able to turn them on and off quickly.
If someone could just explain to me exactly what this setting is and whether I need it on or off.
Thanks a lot
This is your 3g connection. You should switch it off when you're not using it as it's a battery drainer. The always on option is good if you're waiting for a lstge ota update ir something similar and you have an unlimited data cobtract.

I see, but the thing is if I have Enable always-on data yet I have a mobile network widget on my home screen and I turn it off what is actually on?
I have sort of interpreted this always-on setting as:
If you have you mobile (3g) network turned on and have the always-on setting on, then when your phone goes into sleep mode the 3g connection is maintained and apps can still sync whilst your phone is locked/sleeping.
If you have your mobile network (3g) turned on but have the always-on setting turned off then whenever you lock your phone and it goes into sleep mode it is no longer connected to the 3g network and apps and stuff cannot sync (unless you're on wifi obviously). And as soon as you unlock the phone it will reconnect to the 3g network.
And turning the mobile network off from the widget or in settings overrides the always on setting.
Like I said this is only my interpretation of this setting...I've searched google and found almost nothing concrete about it just some opinions and I have searched through the full user manual for the desire HD and this setting has no mention.
So what do you think? Anyone else have any knowledge of this setting?
im not sure about this but i think it means that it doesnt connect, disconnect, connect again whenever you open or close the internet. its always connected, but not always active, so its faster to start up. its like leaving your wifi on all the time. theres always a connection but its not always passing data.
i leave mine always on because it doesnt eat much battery and it makes connecting over 3g much faster.

This usually happens on an unreliable network, but to get around this I usually try airplane mode on then off, try to re-connect?
Ooops. Just checked the wifi menu on my note. I expected to find something like "advanced options" in wifi-settings as on my razr HD. There was a check mark that allowed "to connect to networks that are weak". Couldn't find anything like it on my N3. But maybe some one else knows if this is a device thing or rather an android 4.2 vs. 4.3 issue.

The option you need to un-tick is "Auto Network Switch". I had the same issue at work with a poor connection, it would keep giving me the same message you're seeing. Once I disabled auto network switch however it worked just fine. It was right, the internet was slow, but it's better than the non-existent cellular reception underground.....

thanks for the suggestion, but i already untick all of the option and problem still persist.
I have a similar problem, I have a network with no internet connectivity (and want it that way for CCTV) I have to turn off my mobile data first (uncheck it in the data usage screen) than connect to the wifi, or it keeps booting me out.

Can't we stop these?
Are you running the latest firmware? It seems odd to say but I had the same problem with my GoPro for live viewing, updating helped fix the problem.
enable DHCP your router
None of the so called "fixes" work...changing settings. Un tick this.. reset router.. reset phone.. forget all the bad advice. ..
FACT IS...The Note 3 has a WiFi connection fault... hopefully Samsung will fix it.

Why Does Note 3 Constantly Scan for WiFi Networks??

I turned off the setting that says "Always allow scanning" and "Auto network switch"....but it still constantly scans for new wifi networks - even if I'm already connected to a wifi network with a very strong signal.
This can't be good for the battery.
It is actively scanning because you pressed the wifi button and it correctly assumes may want to select another wifi connection.
It doesn't scan every few seconds when you are not on that settings screen.

Hi,
Go to Setting>wifi, tap menu soft key>advanced>switch off scanning always available. Beware, Google Now location service will not be so accurate after this.
Cheers!!

Now i know whats causing this..both connections were active the wifi and mobile data aswell so if the router is gettin slow connections, it automatically switch to mobile data but in the options that u r suggesting jaythenut disabling auto network switch and still havent swith off ur mobile data, that is how the problem persist..so i suggest use 1 type of connection at a time neither use wifi or switch to mobile data manually..SOLVED!

[Q] Auto connection switching

Been gone from home for last 2 weeks, moving around.
At one point my Note 3 asked me if I wanted it to automatically determine my best connection: wifi or 3G.
Now I am home and it doesn't want to connect to my home wifi, telling me it is a slow connection.
I can't seem to find the menu where I made that bad choice.
Can someone please point me to the place where I can go back to manually choosing wifi or 3G?
Thanks,
Shofar

Thanks.
I didn't have the option key when I went to wifi, only the spots that were near me or ones I regularly use.
However I hit advance and got to the automatic network change and shut it off.
