Yes you can, although you won´t be able to flash a custom kernel/ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2479952
PS: Make sure to read the instruction and Q&As carefully before rooting!

No, unfortunately as of now it is not possible. However, you can root/flash/downgrade stock and use Xposed Framework with, e.g., Wanam Xposed.
This will not trip your Knox flag (it remains 0x0)

How if I root with the method that from your link then I install Cwm via rom manager in play store then install rom?

You don't install CWM nor do you use the ROM manager. You do exactly as described --> here <--. This is "Root de la Vega" Style by @designgears

Vega is not for N9005 yet
Now available. I was the first to use it DD

Vega root as described above for N9005 just released a couple of hours ago, happy rooting!

So bad! No custom rom on note 3.

CF-Auto-Root
Chainfire said:
So here's only the short instructions: flash the included .tar.md5 as PDA using Odin, and make sure repartition is not checked. You should see a red Android coming up, and your device will be rooted. If the device boots normally without the red Android, reboot into recovery manually to trigger the process.
This root will trigger the flash counter, which you can reset (currently only the Qualcomm variant) using Triangle Away.
Downloads:
Qualcomm-based GT-I9505: http://download.chainfire.eu/316/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip
(Should work on MD2 and newer, but not MDN and MDM firmwares)
NOTE:
Some have reported success on Sprint S4's, though I still advise against using it and waiting for a Sprint specific version.
AT&T S4's are locked, do not use this root unless you have unlocked it
VZW S4's are not seen in the wild yet, but I fully expect those to be locked as well, and incompatible with this root before a bootloader unlock

[Q] Bypass Flash Counter I 9500 - Flash Custom Recovery

Hi all,
Is it possible too flash a custom recovery via goo manager in a stock root injected I-9500 ?
If yes then wouldn't we be able to flash roms without odin via the recovery and the flash counter would remain at zero ?
I am tempted to try this. But seems too simple for others not to have tried this before me.
Let me know if I am totally missing something and if some one has tried this before.

Not possible to install custom software on and from a not rooted S4 atm. Security has tightened since the S and S2.

Then you allredy have the counter raised, 1 or 10 will not make a difference for warranty. That`s gone allready bro if they check that and unfortunately triangle Away doesn`t work yet for the I9500.
I have used this for root.

This doesnt effect flash counter.

You can´t downgrade to a stock knox disabled firmware and if you root/flash a custom rom, you knox counter will be set to 0x1.
I updated OTA,but not via Kies
So still I have new bootloader? :/

remember rooting with cf autoroot will trip ur knox counter to 0x1, meaning your warranty will be gone. use towelroot method instead.

Don't suggest towelroot if your not willing to test it yourself ? That's like asking someone to brick their phone intentionally ?
If you won't do it don't suggest someone to experiment for you

Well try updating the thread you opened asking if anyone had used it ?
XDA is a community & people share tips & results. If you updated your thread then you could maybe helping others ??
So in your reply "get your facts straight" I didn't have the facts to make a decision on Ok

you shouldnt be suggesting me not to use others phones as experiments if you never ever had the facts (as u stated in ur last post). But whatever, just use towelroot if you don feel like tripping knox. good luck !
Thanks for the reply guys.
My phone is not in warrenty period. Its finished just before 2 days. So I am thinking to root it. And if warranty doesn't matter it is ok to use CF Auto root? Please link me to the CF Auto root and compatible CWM recovery for S4 i9500.
And one more thing I don't know about 'towelroot'.
Thanks...

totally agree....the guy makes a thread asking if anyone's tried it, but said he didn't want to try it himself because he didn't want to risk doing it on his own phone.....then goes telling other people to use it?
U should visit chanfire post and u will be known everything about root.

Here's the link to cf autoroot for i9500-just follow his instructions

You just need to download the .tar file from him & flash it just like you did with autoroot in odin
Thanks bro...

You shouldn't run into any problems just flash with odin and once flash is complete do a nandroid backup before flashing a new custom rom

I have successfully flashed PhilZ recovery.
Can I flash any Rom available for S4 i9500 to my device through this recovery? Or do I have to change recovery everytime to taste different Roms? Sorry for bad English.

I have a SM-900F and this doesn't work on it. When I click on the logo inside the app, it says that it is not yet compatible with my device

First flash old kernel with Odin
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cun1uainm2h07em/KERNEL_G900FXXU1ANE2.tar.md5
And then root your phone using Towelroot
when you done install SuperSu from market
And when your root is okay you can flash latest kernel and enjoy
