TTS - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

The Samsung Text to speech is pretty terrible. Is there any way to switch to Google`s? I don't see it in the language settings.

Anyone figure this out? Trying to use GPS on the note 10.1 isn't fun cause the voice is terrible.

I couldn't find english in the store

Has anyone found out of its possible to install Google TTS Engine? I know it came preinstalled on my s4 but I don't see it on the new note 10.1. I prefer that voice over the Samsung HD TTS Engine.

You're going to need root first, so once you guys have root, this should work for your device as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472959
But there are also alternative TTS apps in the play store that all probably beat Samsung's implementation.

I have the solution!!
I've done it and it works perfectly!
open ezpdf reader and click on the Voice Reading icon. It will start reading with the crapy voice, then click on the "stop" button and a pop up will apear to redirect you to the samsung store to download the TTS HD of your language!!
And don't know why you can't find it if you search it directly from the samsung store but this way you will definitely have the HD TTS

Testing SVoice on the Galaxy Note 10.1

I thought I would give SVoice a try on my G'Note 10.1 3G version. It's working okay, might be that SVoice is not running fully. Even my Galaxy SIII SVoice lately has been acting up.
So at least it is possible to run SVoice on our G'Note.

I don't know why you guys are having issues. S Voice works fine on my Note II and 10.1. Did you side-load the APK or are you using it as it's installed in JB? And I prefer S Voice to Google Now because it controls apps on the device which Now doesn't have access to. BTW, both my Note's have Brazilian CSC's and are being used in the U.S.

Is it only available on the cellular Notes? I have it on my Note 2 but it's MIA on the Note 10.1. I just have the basic 16GB without cellular connectivity with the newest stock firmware and there's definitely no S Voice.
Update: Disregard, I'm in the US and apparently the Germany market is the only one to get the official Jelly Bean update so far.

[Q] Google Maps/Navigation not saying street names

I finally got my Tmo G2 last night and plan on spending the next 13 days playing with it to make sure I want to keep it. I ran the GPS from the store back home, just to test the GPS and the volume. They were fine; however, Google Navigation wasn't speaking the street names along with the instructions.
I did some research when I got home. However, I don't have Google Text-to-Speech in my Apps list (under Settings), so I can't do anything with that. Under Language & Input, the language is set to US English. Under Text-to-Speech Output, I can choose between LG TTS+ (selected) and Pico TTS.
Does anybody else with a G2 have this problem?

Well, I got Pico TTS to say the street names. I cleared cache in Maps, switched to Pico, and it works. But the voice isn't as nice as Tmobile's TTS, which is the one I'd like to use.

I have Google Search/Now, it's set for the default US English, and I downloaded the 22MB dictionary file, but the voice in Maps still isn't speaking the street names. It was able to verbally tell me that the Arizona Diamondbacks won, though. So this seems to be something related to the Maps program, perhaps.
In my Applications list, LG's TTS has a size of 4KB and a 28KB cache. So there's not a whole lot of data there, which I find a little odd.
I noticed the same. It was different on my gs4, It said street names and the voice was different too. Any help? I don't know what tts or Pico means

You need to have the Google tts or text to speech engine to get it to be the way you want. It seems the att & T-Mobile version isn't including it whereas Verizon did.

Odd that Google's engine wasn't included here. I did get an email from LG support this morning; seems like it's due to a change by Google in Maps.
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics!!
We apologize for this huge inconvenience. Due to an recent update that was done to the Google maps app, this feature e was modified. However you have the option to uninstall the app in order for the TTS+ to work like it use to have it before.

She meant uninstalling the Updates to the app. If you uninstall the updates, you get the regular voice back. But you also have the older version of Maps.

I did. These are the steps I took to solve it:
1) Download Google TTS Engine from the Play Store and install.
2) Go into System Settings -> Language and Input -> Text to Speech and select the Google TTS engine.
Now I have street names! Yay! (She still sounds really snarky compared to the old voice I had on my G2x.)
Google Navigation since kitkat
I thought I saw this being discussed somewhere before, but can't find it. Since updating to KitKat The voice on google navigation gets cut off when giving an instruction.
Instead of saying Turn left in a quarter mile on Jones street it says, "turn left in a quarter" When it repeats the instruction at the 500 feet mark, for example, it works.
The cut off seems to occur if text to speech has been asleep because it's been a few minutes between its use.
Waze doesn't do this, because it uses a different TTS engine, but Google Nav has its own.
Has anyone found a fix?

Google navigator actually does use the system TTS engine. It defaults to the generic "turn right, turn left, etc" when it looses contact with the TTS engine. Try going to app settings, force stop Google maps, clear cache, then go to language and input....text to speech and then have it play an example of the TTS. If it all sounds good TRY Navigator again, you'll probably find it is now working.

Actually that is not trying true, just go to the play store and install. Works just fine on my AT&T D800 with kit Kat, not rooted, 100% stock as shipped by AT&T. I personally just prefer Ivona Voice, the LG TTS+ engine just didn't cut it for me.

It says Street names. It just cuts off the complete phrase when it gives an instruction after it has been idle.
