LG G2 charging times - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been hearing here about charging times of 60 minutes (from zero to full), yet in the following professional review, that guy measured almost 3 hours...

I didn't pay attention but the charge time is definitely not 3 hous. maybe because of the OTA?

There on crack, i have seen mine do it in less than an hour and i went from 57 to 91 in just under 20 minutes and i was using it as well

Takes my phone almost 2 hours, I guess everyone's phones different.

If you use any other charger that 1.8 amp plus it takes longer...I have a 2.1 amp car charger that's faster than ac. Wireless charger outta about 5 hours. It's made for night stand.

Also depends gr8ly on what's running/sync intervals, and if using the stock wall charger or not... I normally get about 1% charge a minute ...

Fastest charging phone i have owned to date.
My first charge of the LG G2 (Bell variant), using the stock wall charger with the phone at 0% battery life and turned off from 0% to 100% battery life was 1 Hour 8 minutes.

Put it on airplane mode and it's juiced up in 45 minutes..

when do i remove it from the charger? when the lockscreen indicator says "charged" or when the LED charging indicator gets turned off? im confused because lockscreen indicator says "charged" but the battery icon is still doing the "filling-up" animation together w/ the LED light indicator ON. so i dont know if its already full or do i still need to wait for the LED & the battery icon animation to stop and get turned off. Remove the charger when it indicates its fully charged and/or the LED is green.

It is definitely not 3 hours.
I get from zero to full in 100 minutes.Give or take a minute. Every Time. It charges 1 percent per 1 minute.

I havent used the stock charger yet (using one from a note 2 currently), but I'm getting full charge in about 1.5hours.
Definitely not 3.

After upgrade to KK, my G2 charging time take more than 3 hours from zero to 100%.
And i'm using original charger and usb cable for G2.
Any solution ??
TIA

Try a different cable.

I have the same issue. It take almost more than 3 hours. This happen after Kitkat update.

My phone charges with the original LG Travel Adapter for bit less than 2 hours from about 10 to 100% and I'm also using Kitkat.

My g2 with original charger and last original kitkat go 0 to 100% in 2h with phone on.

Charge time comes down to 3 things.
Total battery, current if charge and efficiently if the device/cable charging it.

[Q] Is it taking forever to charge your Nexus 4?

I plugged in my phone last night at 2:30 AM and woke up this morning at 8:00 AM to find that my phone was only at 82% and charging. I have the Battery app (Macropinch) and it detected that the source was USB. I swapped for my Samsung charger and the app detected AC as the source. Every time I switch back to the LG charger, it only detects USB.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
I've seen it discussed here before but it looks like you have a bad charger.

I've noticed this too. Sometimes mine goes from USB to AC to Not Charging.
Oh boy
Okay, so it looks like I will be calling Google support tomorrow concerning the charger and the hissing noise from the speaker. I hope they will be helpful. Wish me luck.
Funny thing just happened. For the first time mine also did this. Unplugged and replugged it in to fix...

not true that depends on pins in USB plug.
But anyway, mine charges super slow, especially last 8-5% which can take about an hour to fill, both of my N4 did that so must be a bug. ohh and also:

There is definitely bug with battery stats as this happens to me quite often (unicorns maybe ???)
OK I realized that mine charges as "USB" when the charging wire is not fully inserted into the wall plug. Works every time. While charging slowly pull the charger out and it will change from "AC" to "USB". Let me know if that helps anyone else.

Same problem here on stock 4.2, AOSP, 4.2.1 OTA update. Also had my phone charge from 15 to 100% in less than a second the first day of use.
Flashed the full 4.2.1 images today, including userdata + recovery, and haven't observed the behaviour again....yet. Has only been 5-6 hours, but that's much longer than it usually takes to appear.
Submitted a report the other day: http://code.google.com/p/android/is...4"&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
Edit: feel free to reply and attach your pic in the issue tracker
This is terrible. It says the same thing for me. It showed "USB" for most of the night last night, then finally after some reboots this morning, it switched to AC. I am using the stock LG charger and i'm pretty sure it's plugged into the wall just fine =/
So I have some updates. I was using this USB extension to charge my phone (since the outlet is far from where I usually sit in my room). http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030304&p_id=8608&seq=1&format=2
So I plug this extension into the wall charger, then I plug the stock charger USB wire into the extension and then plug into my phone. The phone shows charging as "USB" when doing this.
If I skip the extension cord and charge the phone as intended straight through the stock charger and wire, it shows charging as AC.
Makes no sense to me that an extension wire can make it read as USB charging.....
There's a couple of pins that need to be shorted for it to detect it as ac. You could mod the longer cord to short those pins and see what happens.

faulty lg charger.
OK this is what i have tried, i unplugged replug the LG original charger with original USB cable, from different outlets around my home, nothing change still says USB it may change for a second to AC but then it goes back to USB, then i try a different USB cable with the original LG charger, and nothing change absolutely the same, then i try a different charger non LG with the original LG USB cable, and walla now its charging like a speedy Ferrari.:good:
so yeah it looks like a faulty LG charger.
i will report back if something changes.
EDIT: have you guys notice if your original LG USB cable has five silver pins? i can only see 4 on mine.
+1 for super fast charge time here

Yup! When I use my LG charger but use an extension for the USB cable (I bought off monoprice.com), it gets tuck at 73% and won't charge more. It says its "USB" as well.
I wake up and its at 73% with the words "charging" and "not charging" bouncing back and forth repeatedly.

[Q] Charger got wet

Hello, My original LG wall adapter got wet, i wiped away all the water i could, and let it dry out for day.
After that I plugged my N4 into it, and my battery just jumped from 70% to 100% in a blink. I unplugged it imminently, and phone thought it was still charging for like 10 seconds, and then my battery percentage went back to 70%.
It's been a few days since this event. I'm worrying about whatever damage it might have caused.
Battery life isn't great. i get about 1.5 SOT when I hit 40%. standby time are as the used to be, but when using the phone the battery seems to drain more. (WIFI OFF WHEN NOT AT HOME ,ALL GOOGLE LOCATION SERVICES DISABLED, ON 3G 24/7)
Is there any real test to see if there is really any damage ?
I hope I'm just imagining. Maybe the charger didn't went bad at all? after all is it a known bug when nexus jumps to 100%.
The wet adapter charged my Other galaxy S2 just fine..
Here is some ridiculous screen.barely 10 minutes screen on an a short phone call and its already down 5%

5% down, in 1 hr and 15 minutes, with 10~ minutes of screen on time, and some phone calls is not really that bad imho.
You should probably get a new charger, seems like something is messed up within the charger, due to being exposed to water.
Is there any way to determine if the phone itself received damage ? I's there any chance at all ?
Only the plastic of the charger was exposed to water ..
anyway I'm using apple Iphone adapter since then.
I think the best way to tell if it received any damage is to just use it normally.
Charge it normally, through the iphone adapter for now, and see if the problem re-occurs.
I do notice battery drains quicker , My friend's nexus, which was from an older batch, drained 2% after 10 mins in google chrome, auto brightness.
mine drains 8% , same brightness, no application running in background. betterbatterystats shows nothing unusual.
Is this normal? Totally Moderate use.

QI charger problems...

Recently I bought QI charger:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Qi...l_Phone_PDA_Chargers&var=&hash=item19dc3fe350
Charging works great, but I noticed problem after phone is fully charged (100%).
Than charging is stopped (which is ok) but it's not started when battery starts drainning.
My N4 is on stock rom (3.2.2), rooted.
In the morning when I picked up phone from pad, there was battery on 92% (day befor on 87), so not fully charged.
So after phone was charged to 100% charger stops charging and not begin again, when battery fall under 100%.
That's not, what I expected...
Before that, 2 mornings, phone was fully charged on 100%..so strange behaviour.
Is there any solution for that? Mayba an app, which wake up charger?

I have this charger, and it never charges back up once it has hit 100%. It uses to only fall to 90%ish, which is fine for me, but now it has started going down to 70% which is pretty bad; I've attached a screenshot from last night.
I've clean flashed the newest Carbon and Matr1x to see if it carries on, and I'm going to test this issue further. I'd also really appreciate it if anyone has a solution?

Hmmm, do you think this is charger problem or rom issue?
Is there someone with original charger to report it's behaviour?
I noticed one thing in most cases, when I test this.
When battery fall under 100% and charger don't start charging, you just have to turn screen on (without picking up phone from charging pad) and charging starts again....

Just as a benchmark I charged it up yesterday evening with the Qi, went on it for a bit and then left it all night. Same conditions as always, and I dropped around 4 percent overnight - compared to between 10 and 30 when it comes off the Qi without me doing anything?
Hopefully this tasker profile will work, it turns on the screen at 92% but only time will tell whether it starts the phone charging again. I'll report back tomorrow morning

I think your problem is connected with one of your app. Last 3 days I don't have problems any more. Ever morning my battery is on 100%.

SHOstock slow battery charging

Hi,
I don't have enough posts to post directly in the thread dedicated to SHOstock.
After installing SHOstock's rom the battery charges very slowly, I am getting about 5% every 20 minutes. Are there settings for changing how quickly the battery charges?
Thanks
It takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours for me on the same ROM. From about 10% to 100. There is no settings to change speed of charge. At your rate you are looking at a full battery in about the same time. What's the problem?

Using USB from the computer or the stock wall charger?
I too am on Shostock and do not have any problems using the white charger/cable that came with the phone. It can be almost dead and if I plug it in for 15-20 minutes it goes up to somewhere close to 30-40%. It charges completely in about an hour to just over. This thing actually chargers WAY FAST compared to my S3 (1 Amp charger), S2 (what is it 700 MA charger?). So not a single complaint here.
If you are NOT using the shipped 2 Amp charger then your times are going to take longer. If your connecting the cable to a PC/ Powered USB port then it will take a long time as usually you will only get a MAX of 500 mA (or way less).
Sent from My Spiderman Themed I337
That's about the charging rate you will get with a SGS2 or older charger (.7 amp or lower).
The SGS4 uses a 2 amp charger and will charge pretty fast.
Charging happens at the hardware level and can be influenced by some firmware settings, but I highly doubt the ROM has anything to do with it.
The SGS2s have a 1amp charger. Not 700ma.

Considering nobody knows what charger this guy is using, it could very well be an ebay car charger that only puts out 500ma.
Hi drew1204
To address one part of your question: For me the Shostock 2.1 rom does not have any charging issues -at least that I can see using the phone and charging it daily (or every two days sometimes!) for almost a month now.
My i337 charges just as quickly as the day I first charged using stock rom.
I have several old and new chargers scattered in different rooms in the house -and yes, depending upon the charger (large or small) the phone charges a bit faster or not.
So, your charging times will vary depending upon which charger you use. . . but the rom itself is really rock solid in this aspect.
Good Luck!

According to your post, you recharge 90% in ~120 minutes.
That's something like adding back 1.34% per minute.
After 20 minutes you should be at somthing like 26.8%.
Drew is only at 5% (or about 20% the recharge rate you (and I, btw!) have. )
So Drew, you really do need to check a) that you have a good charger with the watts mentioned in the thread and b) that your cable is good and has a good connection! It does appear you're recharging slower than normal.
(But again, I don't think that it is rom-related. You could check very quickly by reflashing the rom and seeing if the results are the same!).
(And [to Drew] one more point. If you have just flashed Shostock2.1, you're going to have some bad battery life for a few recharge cycles -not sure that would affect recharge, but it can take a few days of using/recharging/using before the rom suddenly becomes very efficient and your battery life becomes "normal."
Good Luck!

Problems charging after latest t-mobile update

Has anyone had any trouble charging after the update? The one that promised optimized battery life? I always charge my phone in the morning so it's not just sitting at 100% during the night. I gave it almost 2 hours this morning and it only got to 67%. I used the Ampere app and it starts at like 100mAh and then slowly goes to about 800mAh and then fluctuates in between. I know nothing is wrong with the charger because I plugged in my note 3 with the same app and it showed 1200mAh which is what the charger is rated for. I've also had slightly worse battery life after updating. The day I updated I could only get 3:28 sot, and before updating I could easily get 4 and a half to 5+ sot. Anybody have a problem like this or maybe a fix?
Hello, yesterday was my first day after the update and my battery life went from 3.5 hrs SoT too 4.5-5.0 hrs. Yesterday was the first 5hrs of SOT I've ever had. I'm happy my device is normal. It all depends on the usage like today I'm using my phone a little more. I'm using more battery. But in not tripping if I wanted to save battery I know I could!! It's very possible.

Try restarting your phone. Might sound dumb I know but I've had instances where fast charging didn't work until I restarted or that my battery percentage was not "correct"
I've restarted many times now and tried wiping the cache but still nothing. The battery seems to be depleting semi-normally again, still not as good as it was but the charging still takes a long time.
Have you tried it without the app?
By the way, the phone using Qhich Charge 2.0 has built in software that communicates with the charger. No need for a 3rd party app.
I haven't had any problems charging after the update.
The app doesn't help charge the phone, it just shows how many mAhs are going into the phone from the brick. Since the phone has been charging so slowly I wanted to see if power coming in was being slowed or something for some reason

Ugh I am now having this issue after the update. I plus it in and it's now telling me it will take 5 hours to charge (lock-screen). Is your phone still doing the same?

I just disabled fast charging. Restarted. Then re-enabled. Back to normal now.
Does the last update from tmobile does increase your battery life? Or at least gives you better battery.

My battery life is about the same now, but it's still the charging part. It's shown it'll take about 3 hours to charge but when I let it charge yesterday it's still going as of now with 4+ SoT. So battery life is okay, it's the charging. I'll try disabling and restarting and see if that helps

If all else fails, do a factory reset. I did after this last updated since it seems like it was a pretty important one. Differently get better sot, better battery drain while idle. Everything is backed up in the cloud so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I've tried the reset, knowing that a factory reset would have to be next. But charging seems to be back to normal now. I still think it's a little slower than it was, but when I plug it in, it shows anywhere from an hour to an hour 20(when my phone is under 10%). I think it's coming back slowly
