One-Handed Operation - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I just picked up the Note 3 from Verizon yesterday. I am unable to get the one-handed operation to work. I have enabled "Use for all screens" but when I do right to left or left to right swipe nothing happens. Am I missing something here? I have watched a couple videos and I know I am doing the correct swipe motion. Thanks.

I had the same issue. Go into accessibility and turn off all the services. Light Flow seems to be an issue for most people

Thanks!! The service causing a problem for me was Tasker - JB. I appreciate the quick response.

[Q] Screen never goes off after receiving text or missing a call

So if I get a text, my screen lights up and does not go out lol. It will stay on all night, I've woken up to a dead battery because of it. I have it set on 30 seconds so I have no idea why it does this. If I miss a call it does it too. It does not do it for emails though. Does anyone else have this or know how to fix?
thanks

You can either check the Puzzle Lock option, or use a pattern to unlock the screen. I don't know if any other lockscreen apps have the same issue or not, but both of those things (either one, you don't have to do both) worked for me.
I personally use SMS Popup and disable notifications via the stock app. I've never experienced what you are seeing.
Seems like you two should talk.

mine does exactly the same...the battery drains lighting fast coz of it...
any solutions ?
EDIT: seems i found a temporary solution by enabling Puzzle lock in the Sound and display options
To fix this glitch, simply turn ON the 'Slide Puzzle Piece' feature in settings.
By the way OP, you's a cutie
Hey guys, thanks. I don't prefer the puzzle lock but if it's the only work around for the glitch then im cool with that. I just enabled puzzle lock so I think that should do it.
Thanks a million

[Q] Strange screen behaviour

I have noticed over the past few days that when my screen is off if I tap the sensor it will turn the screen on and the LED light will also light up (usually 3 taps about 1 second apart).
I have smart stay, air view, and all gestures turned off (except screenshot). Finger print scanner on. nothing set as far as i can tell in any other menu.
Has anyone else experienced this at all? Is this a "feature" to wake the screen up.
It doesn't bother me, just curious. I am going to test on my wife's phone tonight as well and see if hers does it.
Tap what sensor? The one at the top of the phone?
Yes on top of the phone between the ear piece and the front camera.
Interestingly enough I tested on my wifes S5 and hers does not do it. I am curious what app I installed or setting I changed that is making this happen. As of right now I also do not want to reset my phone at this time as it is not a nuisance. I will try to get a video clip of it and post it.

That a video was to be posted to view of the quirk.
Well I have figured out what was causing my phone to do this. It is in fact a feature of the phone and is called air wake up.
To enable or disable go into Settings>Accessibility>Dexterity and interaction>Air wake up.
I must have at some point enabled this by mistake without realizing it.

Cool..
I can't added this feature on my phone..

OK Google and s voice: s voice is not always on

After testing the note 4 nexus 6 and s5 prime, i have come to the conclusion that the always on feature of the note 4 is not always on.
With the google search bar widget floating on the homescreen with the screen on the note 4 would pick up the okay google command 100% of the time.
Now with the screen off or locked, it would pick up the command 100% of the time at times, 0% sometimes( doing this test makes me feel retarded). This leads me to believe that when it doesnt respond, the mic simply isnt listening, an s voice issue. And that the google floating widget uses a completely separate routine for its listening.
Anyone have any inputs on this? Will lollipop fix it? Or is it something that cannot be fixed?
It works for me - on, off, locked or not.
It does for me. Just not consistently.

Im having the same issue. Ive just got my self a wear watch and configured now to take instructions. Also like being able to wake my note 4 by shouting at it.
I think its when it goes in to deep sleep... still testing...
I always felt like there was a conflict between Svoice and Google Now so I usually uninstall or disable Svoice (cos i prefer GN) but i read somewhere the always listening only works with Google Now Launcher. What launcher are you using? But anyway, Svoice should work with TW, otherwise Samsung are selling defective phones!
Im on the google launcher.
I dont think its a deep sleep issue since it fails to register ok google sometimes even when the screen is on.
E.g. in an app, lock screen and screen off.
however it never fails in any screen with a google now microphone. E.g. maps, google now or any homescreen with the google now search bar widget.
It's because it keeps Un ticking listen all the time in Google now as soon as I set s voice. As stated earlier, I think only one can be the always listening and now doesn't do screen off.
I have got round it by setting tasker profiles to open now when svoice is open.
So I can shout galaxy to wake it, ok google then instruct it to do a billion other tasks I have set through commandr. This set till slows me to use Google now with my LG round. All round it's working pretty good, exept it not waking from time to time...
I use nova launcher (has enable ok google for nova in settings)
But unfortunately have failed to get all other non Google apps to work with ok google, the 3rd party ok google x posed module breaks commandr.
Hope this helps some one.
Looking forward to fixing this "not listening" from time to time.
Everyone still having the same issue? I am still no solution, can't identify the problem or what's causing it either...
Same issue here. Works 100% from home screen or Google search/now. Very unreliable everywhere else

After making S-Voice a Phone Admin, the problem appears to have been solved - for myself at least. S-Voice still has some issues recognizing my voice if I'm in a particularly loud area, but I can always count on it otherwise.
Just a suggestion (for those who haven't tried yet): Try to record your wake-up command in different ways to help its accuracy (kind of like how you did your fingerprint). Oh and be as relaxed and natural as possible :good:
Can you elaborate on making s voice a phone admin please?

I assume he means in accessibility. I did this but still seemed to have the problem but will try again. I even left double home tap as s voice as I heard it makes it "always wait" to be pressed, and I assumed this would ensure it was running in the background.
Will let you know if it solves the issue for me.

Screen Rotation Too Sensitive.... Anyone else?

I notice this while trying to put it on my desk or one hand typing texts, it seems the auto rotate sensitivity is too high. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there some way to "turn it down" so you can turn the phone more before it auto rotates? I know I can turn it off, but I use it in Chrome and YouTube and probably couple more apps.
Thanks!

No issues here with it , guess you could set to landscape / portrait manually , few apps can do it in the play store

I've considered manually doing it, guess just being lazy. It just wants to rotate way too soon for me, it may be my posture or something causing it. Not a bad idea, maybe I can find a widget to easy swap manually.
I've noticed it too. Although I'll take that over too much lag in it rotating when I want
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
No doubt about that!! For me it's right on the cusp of no issues. May just need to hold the phone slightly different to correct it.
I saw Xposed was released for 6.0. Does anyone know of anything for it that would allow this sort of adjustment?

I thought Android 6.0.1 will solve it... But it didn't
Is this a hardware issue? I think not. Sensors data look fine. So I do think it is a software issue. Hoping Google will sort this out
Reported the issue to google

Yeah, I think so, too. I turned off autorotation. I found I like the experience better.
I too find it too sensitive. I used Tasker to limit the rotating on all except a few apps on my last phone but I haven't done it on this phone. You just made me think of it. I can't say yet that it will work. Worth a try.
I do not want to manually set the rotation every time I want to watch a video or a picture I just taken. This is silly.
The auto rotation works great on iphones & on previous Nexus devices. The experience is important.
If only there was an app that can bias the tilt sensitivity like there are apps for brightness sensitivity

Thanks for this, I added a comment in it and voted as well. I turn the screen rotation off when needed (like for Chrome use). Always forget to turn it back on till it rotates without wanting it too.
here is a quick video I did to illustrate the issue:

I'm gonna start a thread in Help/Q&A and post a reddit article I found that solved the issue for me. Using the device with one hand it would always rotate when I reached for the far corner and was bugging the hell out of me... The solution involves Tasker.

Quick Launch pop-up for camera

So you know, I know, and everyone knows the Galaxy S7/Edge allows you to double press the home button to open the camera quickly. If it was your first time doing it, then there's a pop-up that tells you what you did. You go into the Camera settings to make sure that's enabled.
Now every other times, especially random, the damn pop-up still appears regardless. It happens on the Verizon and Unlocked version of the softwares. So what gives, Samsung?
Has anyone actually found a plausible way of fixing this annoyance?

Mine only pops up if the camera is covered up, as if it were in my pocket. It doesn't pop up if there is plenty of light. Test it out and see if that's what is happening to you.

I read some posts about that, and right now it's not popping up for me, even with the camera covered up. Is this something that just occurs at night possibly?

Well I tested it at night but it was able to amplify the light levels. But while testing it I was able to control when that message popped up 100% of the time by covering and uncovering it. This was with the rear camera only though. Never tested the front.
