Quick Launch pop-up for camera - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

So you know, I know, and everyone knows the Galaxy S7/Edge allows you to double press the home button to open the camera quickly. If it was your first time doing it, then there's a pop-up that tells you what you did. You go into the Camera settings to make sure that's enabled.
Now every other times, especially random, the damn pop-up still appears regardless. It happens on the Verizon and Unlocked version of the softwares. So what gives, Samsung?
Has anyone actually found a plausible way of fixing this annoyance?

Mine only pops up if the camera is covered up, as if it were in my pocket. It doesn't pop up if there is plenty of light. Test it out and see if that's what is happening to you.

I read some posts about that, and right now it's not popping up for me, even with the camera covered up. Is this something that just occurs at night possibly?

Well I tested it at night but it was able to amplify the light levels. But while testing it I was able to control when that message popped up 100% of the time by covering and uncovering it. This was with the rear camera only though. Never tested the front.

Screen stays off throughout the call.

Hey friends,
I am facing this problem while making calls that as soon as I press call button or receive button(while taking call) the screen turns off n stay that way till the call ends.
I have tried pressing all hardware buttons, even moved the dvp awayfrom me n into direct light but to no avial.though it did turn on once or twice out of twenty times.
Did anyone else experience this? Any suggestions are welcome..

Do you have a screen protector or case that is obscuring the light sensor or proximity sensor? My first guess is that something is obscuring one or both, because during a call the screen being off is a feature.

screen stays black/off during call
The screen stays black during a call and this happens ramdomly. I have a dell venue pro a t mobile phone but it is a pre release so it works on att 3g and all. I have switched the sd card with no improvement. I have ordered a transender 32 gb sd that I haven't received yet. The firmware version 2250.1400.7004.025 hardware is 112.576.2.0 radio soft 2.2.50.14 radio hard 8250. I have been unable to get any of the hardware keys to hang up the phone which if I get voicemail or something means I have to power the phone down to get the dang thing to hang up. Sometimes it works fine but I cant find a commonality software or hardware that causes this. It happens right out of the box so even after a software reset it can happen. Is there any solution for this issue?
I can't understand why the button on top doesn't hang it up.
PS I got this phone for free and I got ripped off LOL
wow just got a replacement phone today and im having this problem, As soon as I go to make a call the screen goes black and cant do anything on screen during the call, so i cant enter my password when checking voicemail
I think it's related to the proximity sensor. When you put the phone close to your head, the screen switches off. When you move it away, it will switch on - most of the time .
If it stays black, have you tried tapping the power button on the top of the phone? It switches the screen on without disconnecting your call.
A coworker got a replacement the other day(they send a refurb) phone and it had the same problem. Had to go through Twitter to get Dell to send him a new retail phone since they had send him 3 refurbs prior and they all had different issues.
This is just a general statement regarding phone proximity sensors. I have had multiple phones made by different manufactures that experience this to some degree (including the Venue Pro). One thing that I have noticed is that if the phone goes from your face directly into a bright light (outside is most common) it will keep the screen shut off but if the sensor is somewhat shaded it will resume normal function.
I got the same problem too and while it may be a proximity sensor problem, it is not controllable on the user's end. Unless the phone call disconnects magically, a battery pull is necessary.
I'm gonna be on my third one soon and I hope that i won't face the same problem.

Yes i recently got a new refurbed phone and this problem has arised. Complained to Dell and they are going to send me a Brand new DVP. I see a lot of people having this same issue with the refurbs. Currently Dell is out of new DVP due to them upgraing the firmware, so I have to deal with a broke phone till the end of August. Talk about a dissatisfied customer. Im thinking about selling this brand new unit when I get it, hopefully Toshiba has their device out by then
This is a Proximity Sensor issue. You can fix it though in the EM app. You can adjust the sensor readings and the phone will function like normal. Let me know if you need the values or a step by step!

A step by step would be awesome. I like being able to see the screen during a call.
1) Get the EM app, if you dont have it dial ##634# into the dialer
2) Get into the advanced menu by double tapping the black area and typing in "qwertyuiop"
3) Select "RD test", now enter *#6336# in the box that pops up.
4) Select "Sensors", and the "Proximity Sensor Config"
5) Set the following to these:
LED strength - 1
Diode select - 2
Pulse Count - 43
6) Hit set and then you are good to go!
I have noticed that one of my DVP's needs to have this put in again everytime I reboot the phone, the other saves it. Just an FYI for ya!
I get to step 3 and when i clock on RD test, I am prompted with a white box with blue trim and an X at the top right. can you advise on how to proceed?
Oh yeah, Im sorry I forgot that part. Enter *#6336# as the password.
When I dial *#634# it says thic code is not supported.
What does that mean?
I put in a different number combo before and it put me in the EM screen

Proximity sensor delay after a call

Hi guys just wondering if you noticed this strange behaviour.
I noticed a quite frustrating delay after a call when i take the phone away from my ear, it takes 2-3 sec for the screen to turn back on.
Has anybody experienced the same?
Do you know if there is a solution for this?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
yes, think its normal. looks like the same delay when pushing power button for screen on.
sent from my SGSII via T*patalk
Thank you.
That seems strange as it is something really basic that you expect to work in a phone of this price range. Moreover it's something you come across quite often.
Do you know if the latest firmware improves this?

You can just turn off the sensor in the call app, if you want your screen to be available just after a call.. I don't see the problem.. but my delay is also just around a second or so.

But if I do that i will drain battery unnecessarily. I don't know you guys but I find it really annoying having to wait 2sec after a call for the screen to wake up. I want to be able to hang up immediately i think I'm not asking something ridiculous.

you can also set the power button to terminate the call and you will not have to wait for the screen to turn on...
Reading the data from an analogue sensor (such as the proximity one) is always tricky... You need time to level out the values coming back from it, then determine that, over a period of time, the distance is suitable to enable the screen.
Only then can it be turned on etc

Yes i find this very annoying too!
Especially when on a call center, press 2 (wait for screen) then press 4 (wait for screen) you get the idea
this is actually the only problem i have with the SGS2 since ke7

sgs 1 managed it fine though?....or am i missing something
Yeh my i8000 had no delay with the proximity censor.
But the screen delay seems to be everywhere. Turning on from sleep, time to adjust to ambient light and obviously the proximity sensor after pulling it away from your face.
Its not a major drama for me but I agree that it would be good to not have the delay.
I just noticed that when I use Skype the sensor works really well, meaning there is almost no lag.
I'm confused..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes! Very annoying.
Yep! I was commenting on this the other day. To be honest, I make and receive very few calls from my phone but when i do, I feel the rage rising inside me everytime because of the sensor delay.
It's the small things that annoy you the most.
As mentioned, you can opt to have the power button hang up the phone. It also does not turn the screen off, so you can continue working on the phone.
This is actually under accessibility settings, not call settings.
Menu -> Settings -> Accessibility -> Cancel the prompt -> Tick 'The power key ends calls'.
I also find the lag on waking up very annoying. Even once the screen has woken up, it takes a second for the touch input to be recognised so the pattern unlock only registers my last two or three inputs depending on how quickly I start swiping. I have to enter the pattern again. Very annoying.

I also have this problem, although I'd estimate it only takes about 1-1.5 seconds for the screen to come on.
I do however not think that this is a sensor problem, but rather a software problem.
Type *#0*# in the dialer, and press Sensor.
The phone will now vibrate once you trigger the proximity sensor. And it seems to be very fast and responsive here.
i have the problem using Skype...when i start a call it turns automatically the screen off ! i need then to push on home button to get out of skype...very ennoying...
last time i made an order online, my bank sent me a code by phone and following the instruction, the voice asked me to push the number i hear...i simply could not !! the screen was completely off ! and i could not succefully purchase online, my order was cancelled !.....due to this problem of screen..i think it is seriously ennoying and must be fixed in an update firm or something .
Agreed, this is a very annoying and unnecessary delay. Especially coming from an iPhone, where the screen turns on instantaneously when removed from the ear.
Hoping for a fix.
im ready to pay to get this fixed

[Q] Strange screen behaviour

I have noticed over the past few days that when my screen is off if I tap the sensor it will turn the screen on and the LED light will also light up (usually 3 taps about 1 second apart).
I have smart stay, air view, and all gestures turned off (except screenshot). Finger print scanner on. nothing set as far as i can tell in any other menu.
Has anyone else experienced this at all? Is this a "feature" to wake the screen up.
It doesn't bother me, just curious. I am going to test on my wife's phone tonight as well and see if hers does it.
Tap what sensor? The one at the top of the phone?
Yes on top of the phone between the ear piece and the front camera.
Interestingly enough I tested on my wifes S5 and hers does not do it. I am curious what app I installed or setting I changed that is making this happen. As of right now I also do not want to reset my phone at this time as it is not a nuisance. I will try to get a video clip of it and post it.

Well I have figured out what was causing my phone to do this. It is in fact a feature of the phone and is called air wake up.
To enable or disable go into Settings>Accessibility>Dexterity and interaction>Air wake up.
I must have at some point enabled this by mistake without realizing it.

Screen Rotation Too Sensitive.... Anyone else?

I notice this while trying to put it on my desk or one hand typing texts, it seems the auto rotate sensitivity is too high. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there some way to "turn it down" so you can turn the phone more before it auto rotates? I know I can turn it off, but I use it in Chrome and YouTube and probably couple more apps.
Thanks!

No issues here with it , guess you could set to landscape / portrait manually , few apps can do it in the play store

I've considered manually doing it, guess just being lazy. It just wants to rotate way too soon for me, it may be my posture or something causing it. Not a bad idea, maybe I can find a widget to easy swap manually.
I've noticed it too. Although I'll take that over too much lag in it rotating when I want
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
No doubt about that!! For me it's right on the cusp of no issues. May just need to hold the phone slightly different to correct it.
I saw Xposed was released for 6.0. Does anyone know of anything for it that would allow this sort of adjustment?

I thought Android 6.0.1 will solve it... But it didn't
Is this a hardware issue? I think not. Sensors data look fine. So I do think it is a software issue. Hoping Google will sort this out
Reported the issue to google

Yeah, I think so, too. I turned off autorotation. I found I like the experience better.
I too find it too sensitive. I used Tasker to limit the rotating on all except a few apps on my last phone but I haven't done it on this phone. You just made me think of it. I can't say yet that it will work. Worth a try.
I do not want to manually set the rotation every time I want to watch a video or a picture I just taken. This is silly.
The auto rotation works great on iphones & on previous Nexus devices. The experience is important.
If only there was an app that can bias the tilt sensitivity like there are apps for brightness sensitivity

Thanks for this, I added a comment in it and voted as well. I turn the screen rotation off when needed (like for Chrome use). Always forget to turn it back on till it rotates without wanting it too.

I'm gonna start a thread in Help/Q&A and post a reddit article I found that solved the issue for me. Using the device with one hand it would always rotate when I reached for the far corner and was bugging the hell out of me... The solution involves Tasker.

proximity sensor

I am 100% stock no fooling around yet (hotspot is my must have) surprisingly it works right from Sprint store! I have an issue with my cheekbone hitting the mute button 75%of time I answer calls. Took me a while to figure it out. I thought it was a phone issue initially till I noticed it was white which means on. Any thought on solution? Sucks having to be aware of it ever time I answer now, instead of just you know the thing going dark a moment before contact is made! Thx for reading hopefully

I thought I was the only one with this issue haha
I had it with my oneplus 3T as well.
This might not be the issue in your case but I found I just hold the phone oddly under normal circumstances.
I diddnt realize it but I hold it a bit off center on my left ear causing the proximity sensor to miss me.
this turns the screen on and like you I end up muting it most of the time.
I figured it out by taking it off my ear while on a call and using my hand to cover the sensor. (it turned off the screen right away as it should)
then I just experimented with placement until I realized what was happening.
it diddnt happen with other phones I had but I realized they all had smaller screens so it wasn't as easy to hold them off center without noticing.
I found I can consciously move the phone center and see the screen go off out of the corner of my eye.
unfortunately that's a bit more focus than I like to put on it so I usually just end up hitting the power button while on a call which turns off the screen and it wont come back on until you manually turn it back on.
on a side note I used to have a cheap nokia windows phone that was inexpensive enough they did without the proximity sensor.
Instead they had it so when a large enough area of the screen was touched it would turn off.
single touches kept the screen on so you can still pull it away and mute or put it on speaker etc.
I kinda wish more companies would do that instead of the proximity sensor, but I think I'm in the minority as you are the only other person I've heard say they have that issue as well.
Ha, I'm not alone! Thanks for the tip, I will do some fooling around and see if maybe I'm holding at funny angle. I have been rooting since my first smartphone (HTC Evo 3d) for hotspot consequently. Seems even back then, especially on HTC phones the proximity sensor was a problem so I'm surprised I was clueless for as long as I was. That was a total bug tho. I would be talking to someone and open 4 apps and turn on airplane mode, take a screenshot, I even composed an email of gibberish and sent it to my son because the screen would not shut off Who knows, it was less than optimal. This is not a bug it seems either as you astutely pointed out I may be bringing it to my ear oddly enough to hit it before the sensor senses, ha. OR it is a hair slow. Who knows could be worse I could have a Samsung or Apple HA!
