On my Note 2 and my wifes GS4 when you get a text you can see who its from and some of the msg in the notification bar/menu. On my note 3 it just shows New Message and gives no insight
I tried looking at settings does anyone have an idea on how to change it? If i have to I will switch to another sms client but would rather not
Thank alot!

It's a setting now within the stock MMS app.

Thanks. I was wondering that myself. I don't like installing third party apps if the settings are there.

I am looking to find a setting or application that would continue to notify (audible) until a TEXT message is either read/acknowledged or deleted.
Anything like that out there?
Thanks!!!!

Get handcent or compSMS. I use handcent. Worked better for me.

i mean its not that big a deal but just like anything else you put on the phone you dont need it but its cool.
Go into the notification settings:
settings-> all settings-> sounds & notifications-> notifications
from there select the event: Messaging: New text message. Check the box "Display message on screen"
Now when you get a text there will be a window that pops up from the bottom of the screen.

The apps you suggested are for Android and the HD2 is Windows Mobile so its not going to work.

Can't use chomp.
crud thought they had a port my bad
I cannot figure out how/why on my wife's S4, when using chompSMS and having Quick Reply enabled, she gets a text, the Quick Reply window comes up, but takes her out of where she is and opens chompSMS behind the Quick Reply window. Even if I use the Quick Reply window to respond, it still takes me to the chompSMS app. I checked all settings and I am sure they are the same as my Galaxy Note and chompSMS performs fine on my Note. What am I missing here?
Thanks,
MB
You should use go SMS pro. Or SMS pop up for stock messaging app.

I dont use chomp sms but I do use textra sms which is an app in the playstore which was created by the same developers who made chomp sms and it doesnt have this problem. I highly recommend checking it out.
Chomp sms is always having problems like this. I second the suggestion to use go sms pro.

@op you should try out textra like everyone said. The MMS on it is superb
I'm currently using ChompSMS with my GS4 and have not come across this issue. Maybe try un-installing and re-installing the app to see if it fixes the issue? Maybe e-mail Chomp for support as well?

I don't know? I just confirmed it working on mine from my gs4 to an iPhone 4s. You hit the big + button and went to emojis?

I have not had any issues with chompSMS to this point. I am gonna try the uninstall/install thing and see if that works. If I cannot get the issue corrected, I am going with another SMS/MMS provider.

Thanks for this: didn’t know about this so far. It was an issue for me as well, but didn’t know sms notification could show like this, gmail and other does same.
Just found this post and set this and it works awesome. Thanks a lot. Very helpful feature.
Preview used to be the default method of displaying notifications, but they changed it since 4.3 and added a setting for it. PRivacy thing, I believe.
I guess some people apparently didn't want the messages from their secret love affairs showing up as readable on their phone when leaving it on the dinnertable.

Yes that is true as well. There is always negative and positive sides.
Does any one know how to change the text message settings to make it so the notification on the lock screen shows it is from and what the message is?

Dont know about that. Maybe samsung intended it that way for privacy reasons..or so i guess(although i dont get the point as rest of the apps can show full details there).
My tab3 does not show the sender/contents of the message. Just says <count> messages received..not quite useful.

I'm not sure if it is JUST for stock. Go into stock messages and apply that setting. Then text yourself in hangouts. You will find out lol

Thanks but I can't change Messaging settings without making it default again. I'm worried that will screw up Hangouts when I switch back.

The good news that I was able to switch to stock, make the change, and move back to Hangouts. The bad news is that the setting didn't carry over.
