RAM is only for multi taking really. (random access memory) it would help with opening lots of apps in the background like a desktop, with the 1gb of ram, its not going to matter as much as the GPU has 72 cores, this is how i think of it anyways,

Mobile technology is always moving forward at an incredible rate. That's why you should always opt for 12 month contacts or buy SIM free keep for a year, sell & upgrade.
These specs look pretty good for the DHD2.
I agree, but if you've just upgraded in the last few weeks this is going to hurt...
Certainly, if you've just ordered or bought the DHD then knowing there will be a better one out will hurt.
I'd be interested to know when it potentially would be released.

why would it hurt? htc release a new model every few months, if you have been buying HTC's as long as me you should be used to it, i bought my HTC nike and then the diamond came out, i bought the diamond and they release the HD, blah blah blah, if you buy the Desire HD2 no doubt within a few months a higher spec model will be released
Honestly, the specs aren't that much different!
1080p video recording? meh - and certainly if the 720p recording on the DHD is anything to go by, won't be anything special.
1.2GHz dual core? It's ok I suppose - but DHD does me proud at the moment and as long as I get no lag (and I don't really) then I'm fine with that.
Only real nice thing is the screen - but as we all know - screen specs are highly subject to change in the world of HTC!

3.3" screen? Must be a typo.
Still using the Adreno 205... Should have waited for the 220. DHD is supposed to be a flagship line.
Pretty poor, IMHO.
Wow, a lot of people here with a lot of money it would seem!!
If I'd just got the DHD I'd be pissed that this has been announced - fair enough a year after release but less than 6 months?
Well, those are not oficiall ofc and i don`t think sgs will use snapdragoon chips ;o but that qhd screen looks nice
Ahhhhhhhh I hate rumors...& here's why:
"As suspected, the Galaxy S 2 is said to run on a dual-core Qualcomm 8260 1.2GHz processor (not an Orion or Hummingbird, apparently)". Why would Samsung use Qualcomm? Look at the table here to better understand:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiconductor_sales_leaders_by_year
The RAM is said to be 512...down from 768 Mb. Does that make sense?
Anyway, lets wait & see. MWC is a few days away.
RAWWWWR THE SCREEN IS NOT HD! HD is 1280 x 720 (720p) or 1920 x 1080 (1080p).
960 x 540 is 16:9 widescreen. but not HD. I wish, when specifically talking about screen resolutions, that companies wouldn't just drop "HD" on everything to drum up hype.
As with all technology, what you buy today, will be out of date by the time you have got it home and turned it on. This will always be the case. if you were waiting for the latest bit of kit, you would never buy anything.
I got the Desire, and have upgraded to the DHD. I dont see myself changing phones again for at least 12 months. Unless something really cool comes out
something wrong with this leak
galaxy S2 will never have a snapdrogon, samsung makes their own SOC
as for the dual snapdragon on the htc handsets, well it doesnt make sense either to have the old desire HD adreno 205
dual core snapdragons, gen 3, are coming with adreno 220, its in one chipset
equaly no way desire 2 is coming with the same old CPU/GPU
this is crazy
To be honest if that's the new desire, I'm not impressed. I think this is positive for us dhd users because with the release of this phone they should also release the gingerbread sense to dhd. If they don't it will till be applied by the great minds here at xda.

samsung dont make there own, just like every arm cortex cpu, its made for them by texas instruments, and it's quite conceivable that they would try qualcomm cpu's. as far as computing goes as a whole, its rare for a manufacturer to stick with one h/w company, all the big laptop and pc companies use both intel and AMD cpu's. so its only natural that smartphone manufacturers are sooner or later going to try the same thing

There is no way you can have MSM8260 and Adreno 205. Ask Qualcomm or just visit their site and read about the 3rd gen chips (something the "professional" mobile reviewers obviously find very difficult - they seem to write more articles than they read ). I personaly don't trust anything that comes from these sites, because their "news" are just rummors and their reviews are always biased on the brand that gives them pre-launch phones (ever wondered why GSMArena never gets HTC units before the launch and always find their phones inferior to Samsung?)

I don't see the problem Technology moves, if you don't want your pride and joy to be out of date in six months don't buy flagship products buy something thats already out of date, yeah if you've just bought a DHD you'd be a little miffed but I am sure if you buy a HD2 within six months something will come along that will blow it away

The Samsung/Qualcomm issue does point to this article being nothing more than a rumor, but still, if only a few of the specs can be realised I actually cannot wait for the Desire HD2!!! I had been interested in maybe moving to a Samsung device if these 4.3inch Super Amoled's hit the market, but the superior resolution would have me all over the HTC.
I can see it being a kick in the teeth for some possibly, but there are some of us here who think nothing of buying new phones every few months and shamefully, I am one of those fools!
Cannot wait for MWC.
Regards.
According to an article in Korea times ...s4 will be released in Feb 2013...so most of us who did not upgrade to galaxy s3 should wait about 6 more months to get the most powerful beast in our hands...

If they go for anything larger than the S3 they can forget about me buying that.
S3's size is utterly ridiculous (can't find many people who can 100% interact with it with only one hand), anything larger that that will be just sad.
Only thing left is to pray to the electronics god that Google makes their next Nexus in the size of the current one / S2's! can't imagine a better phone size, bigger than the tiny iPhone (yea, talking about the new fella) but easy to play with using one hand only.
if only the'll be able to also make it Super AMOLED Plus (like the S2's non-PenTile, but with S3's resolution).
S4 might not have a screen larger than S3 since the current size distinction gives proper difference between the S and Note lines. If size goes beyond 4.8 will impact sales of either of them.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
The more I use my S2..the more I feel it's the perfect size. I had a GNex for a bit and it was just a tad too wide. I think something the size of the s2 with a edge to edge screen would be great.
Yeah then we wait for the S5 next year :banghead: and S6 the year after that

S4? U kidding they have to dump a huge number of S3 into market.. After huge success of this they ll plan for S3 with Dual sim then when competitors move to hexa core or jump into 2GB RAM then they start S4 may be,,
My wishlist for S4-
1. Quad core 2GHZ preferably Tegra 3 .
2. 2GB RAM with nVidia GPU.
3. 4.3" Super AMOLED HD display with 720*1280 res (Enough )
4. Design of S2 is must( Best designed phone)
5. Aluminum casing for back cover with S logo.
6. 12 MP camera carl zeiss.. (Nokia Fan)

May I ask, why Nvidia GPU? I should say that most benchmarks say that our mali-400mp4 clocked at 266mhz is just as powerful as the full clocked tegra 3 gpu variant, plus we have a much lower resolution screen than any tegra 3 powered deice I have ever seen, meaning our device can end up playing better games that quite a few of the devices with the tegra chip in it. Like with full effects enabled on dead trigger, it is so much smoother than my nexus 7 with it's gpu overclocked from 416mhz to 520mhz. Personally I would take the overclocked 440mhz mali-400mp4 in the s3 anyday over any nividia GPU. Althoug, the gpu going to be used in some of the new exynos 5 chips which should power the s4, looks incredible.

Because I saw my friends Nexus 7 which played dead trigger more finely and smoother(Even mine was smoother ) so i thought tegra would be nice. Is S4 confirmed?
Like I give a ****.
Seriously, the longer I wait for Jelly Bean, the more I want a Nexus.
Besides that I hope they won't make the screen any bigger. Otherwise we'll run around with 11" smartphones and 17" tablets very soon.

If someone released a 4inch Nexus with good hardware and a solid build I'd be all over it like a rash.
Instead the phones are getting too big and too ugly. I've never had an iPhone but I can see the appeal. You invest in an iPhone 5 now and you're guaranteed long term software support and your device maintains its value. I'm sick of all these phones coming out that feel outdated and forgotten in 6 - 12 months. Who do you hear saying "don't buy an iphone 5 the iphone 6 is coming out next year".

Sadly you're kinda right.
I've already made my decision. My next phone will be a Nexus, period.
I could forgive the longer wait for updates, if I'd actually use them. At the moment the only reason I'm waiting for updates is because the cm team can make a proper one with those.
There is only one manufacturer that does great modifications to android, but those phones aren't available here. :'(

Hi guys
Need a little help if u can...
On a local pricerunner like site I can find different specs on different versions of the Note 10.1 and the Note 8.0 in terms of processor.
For the 10.1 I can find two set of specs: One with a 1.4 GHz quad-core Exynos processor and one with a 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor. Both called Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (one is grey the other is white).
For the 8.0 I can only find a 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9 processor.
I guess what I'm asking is what's the difference in performance? Cuz' theres only about 20 USD between the 8.0 and the Exynos 10.1...
If anyone has some input it would be much appreciated

In real world usage you won't see a difference. The only time it may make a difference is when using benchmark tests. I would choose the tablet on which size is better suited to you rather than the cpu. ln the electronics game, they will always try to increase the number, whether it be ram, cpu clock speed, number of cores, resolution, or mega pixels. The consumer is led to believe that if it has a higher number it must be better. Usually it's just an incremental increase which doesn't really make a difference when using the device.
The 8.0, does have a the same screen resolution but on a smaller physical screen, so it'll look a little bit sharper. Personally I like the larger size, but some people prefer the sharper image. Especially when using the s-pen, I think the extra screen real estate helps. It is also beneficial when using multiview windows.
How much is the Note 10.1 going for nowadays? Last time I checked Costco was selling it for $429 with a free zipper case.
So I shouldn't worry about getting an Exynos or Cortex-A9 processor?

Well here in Denmark the best price for the 10.1 is the grey Exynos edition selling at around $550 :-/ No case included. The Cortex-A9 edition is about $50 more.
I bought my Note 10.1 (16gig, wifi) on sale, for 385 Euros ($535) here in Norway two weeks ago, may 10'th, but they are back at 515 Euros ($715) again

Like he said he can't tell u directly which is for you. You can't come online and ask for which processor to get because like he said during use probably 95% of users can't and won't detect a diff.
Get a tablet based on size and functionality that's suited best for you.

I got my Note 10.1 (16gb, wifi) for about $380 (taxes included) because of some SD sale a couple months ago. I don't think it's ever been that low since . Honestly though, I think you should choose the tablet based on the size. Personally, the only reason I'd upgrade my tablet now is if I could purchase something similar to the Note, but bigger (13"-15"). Otherwise, I love my Note for everything I'm trying to do with it.
I have both, grey note 10.1 since it was released, note 8 about 1 month.
Here are some opinions and other considerations
Performance - for me both are fine once bloat is removed - 8 has the edge.
I can overclock note8 stably to 1.8, but don't bother since it works fine at the default
Battery life - (my usage pattern is a couple of hours per day) - note10.1 wins - my charge was 1 per week,
Note8 about 3-4 days, not sure yet whether software or display.
Weight - note 8 is my preferred carry to work
Screen view comfort - note 10.1 wins with size of display
Spen writing, if you are holding the tablet while writing, 8 would win. If your normal placement was on a desk the 10.1 would win.
Charging - note8 much quicker (3.5 vs 6 hrs).
Accessories: consideration for cost if you already have accessories like otg-usb or mhl-hdmi adapters, the 10.1 has samsung 30 pin adapter, so previous 30-pin hdmi, usb etc work fine. The 8 has 11-pin micro-usb, which works with some old otg-usb adapters (eg for S2) but needs a newer vintage HDMI adapter. (The 30-pin adapter looks way more robust than the micro-usb).
Just to clarify things all note 10.1 and note 8 use same processor exynos 4 quad (but with different clock speed 1.4vs 1.6) the cortex a9 is the type of the processor architecture not a processor brand so there is no exynos note 10.1 and cortex a9 note 10.1 both white and gray use cortex a9 exynos 4 quad , good luck with your choice

That's the cheapest I've ever seen it. For some reason the Note 10.1 doesn't go on sale as often as the Tab in either size.
If you're in the U.S. you might want to wait till "Black Friday". I got mine just last year at Best Buy during Black Friday and it was $50 off( and no I did not have to wait in line). A lot of online retailers also had it in their sale.

Exactly, Galaxy Note 8.0 and 10.1 share almost the same hardware. The Exynos is just clocked higher like the Note II. You only need a Kernel to reach the same clock (if you need it, I don't).
Furthermore the Galaxy Note is quite expensive at the moment. Last week when I checked prices at amazon Germany the price for the 3G Versions the Note 10.1 was 10 Euros below the 8.0! :silly: (440 vs 450 Euros)
I give you a tip:
If you are writing a lot (like me as a student) buy the Note 10.1.
If you can wait for a special offer (maybe 2 weeks, maybe 3 months, you never know) and like to have a more handy tablet, then buy the Note 8.0.
I previously owned Note 8.0 and I really liked it but it had it flaws... which eventually made me to change to Note 10.1. Things that bothered me on Note 8.0:
- Heat. While gaming and even in browsing the device sometimes tended to heat about just too much. Still usable but definetely bit annoying.
- Battery life. I use tablet thru whole day for work. Note 8.0 run out of juice just bit too early whereas Note 10.1 still can join me for games and movies after work with single charge.
- Screen issues. Excessive backlight bleeding. I checked several and all suffered from this. But I have read some people reporting not having any. So I guess you just need some luck. Also I see stucked pixels in some.
- Camera. Much worse than Note 10.1. I just want to take at least fairly ok pics and Note 8.0 just can't deliver.
Anyway, some of these maybe fixable (heat?) with firmware update. But my Note 10.1 just works better for my needs and can push easilly thru the day.

My Note 10.1 charges much faster, from 10% battery mine consistently charges in 4hrs 25min. (See attachment from 5%)
I also like the 30-pin connector because over the last 6 months I have seen literally 100's of tablets of various brands for sale on ebay with damage micro USB charging ports.
As far as price goes, deals can always be found on ebay from reportable sellers. I got my new Note 10.1 Dec. 20th 2012 for $385.00 delivered.
Currently on ebay ........

OK, so currently I have the Hyundai t7 which is a Chinese tablet which I got for £66. It has a Samsung exynos 4412 1.6ghz processor and 1 GB ram, 1280*800 7inch IPS screen and dual cameras. Although the specs seem quite good it only runs ICS but has a very unstable jellybean ROM. I know that the advent has 4.4.2 the latest one. My first question, is this tablet supported through a lot of new firmwares. For example will it get android 5.0 etc?. When using in the shop the speed is amazing as well as the unique stylus. Now for the battery. My Hyundai can get a mere 1hr screen on time which is dreadful. I am definitely looking for upgrade on that. How long is the screen on time on the tegra not. Finally is it worth upgrading? It cost at my PC world £130

I get several hours (~5) on mixed usage on my EVGA Note 7 on maximum performance option, max screen brightness and with bluetooth and wifi turned on. This includes a mix of gaming for an hour or two, lots of web browsing, flash videos and movies or shows downloaded to the tablet. Nvidia has said that they'll roll out updates on their devices as soon as possible and that seems to be the case with the Note 7 and Shield as they've both got the 4.4.2 update. I would be wary, though, as some people have reported problems with not being able to read or write to their SD cards. Personally, I'd suggest staying at the 4.2.2 or 4.3 rom until these issues get fixed. I got my brother the Nexus 7 2012 when it first came out and compared his to my Note 7. Honestly, in average use, I don't see too much difference and the games I play aren't graphics intensive but it played games like The Walking Dead: Season One, Dead Trigger, Asphalt 8 and Real Racing just fine.

Thanks for the reply. In your opinion do you think it is worth the upgrade from my current tablet (Hyundai t7). I have also been really considering to get a 10.1 inch one as bigger is better!

I suppose it depends on what you use it for, what you require from the tablet and what your budget is. If you would really prefer a 10" tablet over a 7" one, I would really hold out to get what you really want. I know Qualcomm just revealed their 808 and 810 CPUs with Adreno 418 and 430 GPUs respectively and Nvidia's new Tegra K1 should be out in devices in the next several months. Be prepared to spend up to twice the price of what a 7" tablet costs, though.
Yes thanks. I have picked up he lg g pad 8.3 which was a steal at £119 so no need to worry about this!!!!
