[Q] Android Device Manager - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I left my Nexus 7 in the airport. Once I discovered I left it I changed my Google password.
I have been checking the Android Device Manager daily to see if it registers on the service. It has not. Today when I checked ADM it is not listed as an option to search for anymore.
I went to Google Play and it is still listed there as one of my devices.
Does this mean that someone has logged on to a different google account with it. Is there someway I can still track it?
Thanks for any info.
Jason

More info from Google on ADM. Once someone logs out of a Google account on your device it is not able to be found again within Google's systems. This is complete BS but it's their position.
"Thank you for contacting Google Play Support.
Unfortunately the only way to see the device ID is to look in our systems by using a Google account. If we do not have the Google account unfortunately we cannot see that the device has been used or who has it. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If there is any further questions or issues that I can help with feel free to respond to this e-mail or contacting us at support.google.com"

I think so.... You can manage your accounts in the Settings... Think that someone has turned off WiFi or (if you have) 3G and then deleted your account and registered with his or completely wiped your N7. Tracking could be difficult if no software is installed like AVG Anit Virus that had a tracking option. But if he has wiped your N7 to factory reset I don't see a chance to get it back....

Google Apps Device Policy does not work on S9100

What adding new Google Apps account, I getting the message that this account require Google Apps Device Policy to be installed.
I have installed the Google Apps Device Policy. But when I getting to Account selection screen, pressing OK do nothing. It’s not go to next step of setting up the policy and cannot log in.
Anyone solved this issue?
Shay
I got google apps account (not premium, standard only) and it works flawlessly. Could you make second check to make sure that you have mobile access enabled?
I thought I would be the only professional user
I'm searching the hole internet for 3 days now to find people with this problem.
I experience exactly the same issue.
It took me about 10 factory resets to find out that it is an sgs2 issue.
Shame on Samsung.
This Phone is useless for professional users with Google Apps account.
To all who need the Google Apps Device Policy-App:
Please contact the Samsung support at least 10 times a day.
Until they understand that this is a killer-bug

Updates - Can't Sync with Samsung Account

I have searched through the sections but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so hopefully someone can help me out.
When I check for updates under Settings>About tablet and try to sign in with my samsung account (created on samsung's website) it says invalid ID or password. I know it is correct however since I have verified it three times. On the off chance it was linked to samfirmware.com I setup an account there too, but same thing. Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.
you are NOT alone.

Right after I noticed on these forums that one need to be signed into a Samsung account in order to get an ota update, I tried to sign in with my existing Samsung account - could not, wrong password.
I tried to create another Samsung account online, and I get errors ' a problem occurred'.
I even tried to use a non existing gmail account, same problem.
Then I spend about two hours on the phone (its not a cell phone, you will probably end up at laptops - but Samsung support is so ****edup, that one knows whats going on. One guy told me to create a brand new gmail account and use that userid to login. Another said I should create a new samsung.com account and use that....no luck.
When I was promised to be called back 24-48hours after open the issue and no call after 72 hours, I called them. Their response was that someone will call me when they have a solution.
Probably think I am stupid and cannot type.
**** SAMSUNG support.
Maybe I would suggest we all open issues with them, regarding this **** support. That is all we can do - maybe a lawsuit because they are selling something that is not working as advertized....
Numbers count! Please open an issue with Samsung.
Your not missing a thing, I received my wifi Gtab 10.1 couple days ago did the same thing and nothing, first it said processing failed then it said wrong password, did the same, logged in on line to the samsung website that was fine. I Called Samy tech support up and they said they are working on linking the accounts together "I take that to mean its a system wide problem" the rep said i can sign up with a diff email. Well i did that too a got the same results. Im guessing they are having some issues with that update sign in/sign up server.
Ill call again tomorrow and see why i cant sign up at all.
samsung support known for a horrible service but i love their products. as long as you are sticking here at the forum you are good. mine too and i dont want to spend more time logging-in. just go to development section and you are good to go!
It's a known issue, but try again. It took a few times for it to go through, but I am now synced. Of course, there aren't any updates available, so it isn't a pressing issue right now

did you eventually use your login info from the Samsung.com site?
Maybe I am missing something really obvious ... but my Samsung Account shows as not sync'ed but I cant find where I can try reentering my username & password for it. When I go into the "Samsung Account" heading in "Accounts & Sync" there are no menu options at all. Am I looking in the wrong place?
EDIT:
Hmmm ... rebooted and now there is a message saying that "Samsung account" has to force close. Lovely.
i didn't use the same login as the website, I used the same login as my Gmail for the Tab, but I think you can use whatever email/password you want.
To access the login screen, go to Settings/About Tablet/System Updates
For whatever reason, trying to get the acct set up on the tab doesn't seem to work for anybody the first time. So, remember the first email and password you used, and do this:
clear data and cache, and force close these 2 apps:
Samsung account
Samsung apps
launch Samsung apps, and agree to the terms
try to sign in to your samsung account with the first email and pass that you used
It worked for me.

Clear data and cache? Do you mean from CWR or somewhere else?
Sorry, from manage apps, clear the data and cache from those 2 apps.
ETA: this only lets you create the account so you can manually check for updates, it does not solve the sync issue.

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications
Select the "All" tab, scroll through to find the app, select it, clear data and cache
You can also manage apps by opening the app drawer, and dragging the icon to the little "i" in the top right corner.

OK, that sort of helped. Went through all of that but when I sign in it says bad password(verified through last pass login I am entering it correctly), and when I try to create account from that page it says account already exists. Frustrating!
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
Same question......

When my attempt failed for loggin in from 'settings', 'about', 'software update', these two app's (samsung apps & Samsung account) data and cache are still empty - there is nothing to clear.
I cannot see that it will work either with the CWM data/cache clear, as I did the new UI ROM install, cleared my data and cache in CWM before I did the ROM install and afterwards I still got the same errors trying to login to the Samsung account.
I think you were just one of the lucky one's to sign into samsung account.
Did you use your same account-name & password as your samsung.com info?
Have you EVER logged into the samsung.com account (maybe registered your device online), before trying to connect from the tab10.1 to samsung account?
I think these are all important questions that we need valid answers for, before we can determine the say to proceed with this account login.
Thanks

Sorry - saw your post. But as I said these two app's data and cache were empty for me, so that does not do it either.
I haven't registered my device on the website.
If you get the "username/password already exists" error, I believe you are registered, there is just a bug with the server. Wait a few hours, another day maybe, and try it again
If you're still having problems, please look at this thread, hopefully there's some useful info that can help you clear it up

Solution found......
See this :
It works for me - confirmed.
Solved
If you're getting the "processing failed" message when logging in to do the updates, then here's your solution:
Instead of typing in your login information for the "Update" action, go back to "Accounts & sync" menu, then "Add Account", select "Samsung account", and fill in your samsung login information there.
If you have any trouble with your login (such as it rejecting your correct password), go to samsungdive.com and create or update your login information there. Simply changing your password to something different appears to somtimes help.
Once your login information is entered into the "Accounts & sync" area, you should be able to access the update feature without providing any further credentials.
samsung accounts too quirky
i have an account i have been using then updated to ICS.
galaxy s2. then tells me I cant log in with my .com domain in Turkey.
blah blah blah.
using the phone and samsung instructions it says log in under another address.
okay but there is no way of changing the log in on the phone which steadfastly keeps the old gmail address as my log in.
solution I uninstalled samsung apps and samsung account and sent an email to samsung explaining why.
told them when they get their s*** together then i might reinstall.
otherwise no advertising dollars for you samsung and google.
best to give consumers what they want.. a fully functioning OS and proggie.
I can do without samsung app but they cant do without us.
might take a year. suddenly kies for ubuntu.
email addresses that work in all countries.
WTF

Google Voice

Just tried to install Google Voice on my PH-1 with Android Pie. I got nowhere.
I am wondering if privacy setting could have anything to do with it...
If anyone can point me towards someone that has it working that may wish to provide a little tutelage I would appreciate it.
Of course I have a gmail account. But when I installed, I chose the account then I see several pages fly by and then at the bottom is has a box stating to switch accounts.
I am more than a little clueless at this time.

If it helps you at all, I signed up for my Google voice number on the website before I signed into the app on my phone. From there it didn't require any other input aside from setting ringtones. I use it at my daily contact number.
It's working fine for me. Have you used Google Voice before on another phone? The basics should be the same. Once you get assigned a number that's associated with a gmail account, you should be able to go to settings in the app on the phone and set it up. The GV number and the phone number it's forwarded to are in the first part of settings.

Family Link problem: No more google account linked to the phone

Dear All,
I installed and then tried to uninstalled Google's family link on my android phone. Somehow do not know what I did, I got problems as google account on this device was removed from the phone.
So now my device did not have an google account. There is no way to add an google account (or sign in to play store). Every time I try to add an account or sign in play store, it quickly goes back to the previous screen. it seems that the phone is stuck in a loop in the family link which disable my administrative right of adding an account on this device.
Then in family link app (Family Link for Children & Teens) it asks to choose a device to supervise. When I choose this device, this says "There are no google accounts on this device. To supervise an account, add it to this device" But when i click on "Add account", it also quickly goes back to this same screen and noway would I be able to add an account.
But i could not uninstall the family link for Children & Teens either. It gives me the error message that "this app is required by your device administrator and can't be uninstalled".
But from another device where my family link for Parents, this device has been removed. so I would not be able to control this device from the parent account either.
it seems that the administrative right for this device is still controlled, but as this device has not google account and it has been removed from family link for Parents, it become an organ device and we are not able to do anything on it.
Now totally got stuck. I was thinking to try to factory reset the phone but it was disabled as "it is controlled by admin". But nowhere can I find the admin.
Do not know if anyone face the same issue with the family link app and what should I do?
thanks for your advice.
best regards,
Ron
Ron, good luck and I hope there is a solution. I was considering installing family link aslo, now I am not so sure.

How did you solve it?
Tnx in advance,

Essential Phone lock-out after factory reset

Hello,
For context: My friend bought an essential phone a while back that her and her sister used for a while until supposedly an update released requiring them to sign into their google account. None of their credentials seemed to work and so they gave up on the phone all together and got new devices. My ancient LG G4 needs to be replaced and she offered me the phone if I could figure out how to get around the lock-out. At first I thought it'd be as simple as performing a factory reset or rooting the phone, etc.
Well, it turns out that they had already tried that. The lock-out persists even after a full factory reset was performed. I double-checked all of their credentials with them to make sure none of them worked. Nothing. Since I am locked out and the phone has been reset, installing rooting programs is much more difficult and I really don't know what options I have left. My only hunch at the moment is that there might be some way to use the shell on the fast loader to interface with the phone, but I doubt I'd have many permissions. I've scoured lots of forums and videos looking for new approaches, but many of them assume I have access to the phone and can install apps, etc. Does anyone have advice? Let me know if you need more info. Thank you!
Are you getting a message like "This Device was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device"
If so, that is Factory Reset Protection (FRP). If the password on the Google account used on that phone was changed, it makes it even harder to solve.
I don't know if FRP can be bypassed on a PH-1. You could try searching for it.

Yes, that is exactly the message I received. At least now I know what that security measure is called. That might help me on my search. Thanks!

I was able to bypass FRP on a used Essential Phone I got from eBay, which was running PPR1.180610.091 (August 2018 Pie release, the first one ever). Most instructions seem to involve using TalkBack or GBoard input settings to navigate to the online Help & Support activity, then searching for a help page that has a YouTube video to launch Chrome from there and download a replacement Google Account Manager and another app to force browser sign-in for Google accounts.
Hopefully, those hints will be enough to help figure out which instructions you find online are legitimate.

Good to know that can work on Essential Pie, I thought it was a fake video the 1St time I saw someone doing that on some other phone!

I appreciate your advice, but I've seen that one before and it no longer works with my release. The video never loads in, can't actually be clicked on to open. I'd need a more modern approach unfortunately.
