Hey there!
Okay, this has totally it stumped me. I have a Nexus and loved it so I went on to purchase my fiance one as well. I bought this device off craigslist s
and when I first start up the phone it has a lock(or unlocked) symbol on the bottom of the Google load screen. That's the first thing that struck me as odd. Mine did not start up like this. I have a feeling the person I purchased this phone from had rooted the device, bricked it, then flashed android 4.2.2 back on the device before he sold it to me.
Now, I can put any SIM in the phone and it will not recognize them. I tested the SIM cards in my Nexus and they work perfectly fine. Also, I'm using Straight Talk and have even tried putting my old T-Mobile SIM which the service had yet to be terminated and still nothing. Can someone tell me what I may do to fix this? I can't find much information on the subject elsewhere.
Thanks so much!
Can you get in bootloader mode? Has it got a radio displayed there?

Go to settings>about phone>status and see if it shows an IMEI number. If it doesn't, you got duped.

I just got this message on my phone and I have no idea how to fix it, I searched Google and tried just about everything I can. If I take my sim card out and put it in another phone if works great, I put it back in this phone and it doesn't work. Ive tried manually searching network, nothing. I've tried reflashing carbon ROM stock kernel and radio, nothing. I've tried toggling airplane mode, nothing. Wtf is going on here? I like this phone but I've never had so much trouble with a phone.

Sorry I think you may need to do a factory reset. Try backing up as much as you can off the phone and do the reset. GL My wife's touch 4g had the same issue when switching sim cards from her work blackberry to the touch 4g. Because the phone was brand new, there was no issue in doing a factory reset with the sim card installed.

its a real micro sim card, and i tried the resetting thing. no luck.
i just got off chat with tmobile and they said its due to the fact of non payment (i guess i shouldnt buy a phone from craigslist anymore)
so i assume theres no fix for this

bad choice buddy , should have bought it straight from google ORRR , asked the owner for the imei so you can check if its clean , im a big craigslist person too , but you have to check things like that , i bought a xbox 360 for cheap that was in mint condition but it was console banned for hacking/piracy reasons.
EDIT tmobile is cracking down on people who buy phones for cheap on a contract and dont finish paying , they will block your phone from their networks.

Wow that sucks. So does that mean the IMEI is blacklisted on tmo for non payment? Did the tmo chat say anything about new owner and such?

tmobile wont care if you claim to be a "new owner" or if you even tell them you bought it from someone who jacked you off , if its blacklisted he's out of luck , the best choice he has is to contact tmobile and check the IMEI

Hi there...
just got my Nexus yesterday. I'm from Brazil and a friend of mine got it from Play Store (unlocked, I guess). Here we have 4 main carriers, mine is OI. My Sim card works great in other devices (tested on Iphone 4S and Galaxy SIII). The device shows all 4 carriers, but when I tap on "OI", I got the same topic message.
Any ideas???

It's a real micro sim.
Has anyone had any trouble activating the G2 on VZW? I received mine in the mail yesterday after I ordered it online from VZW as an upgrade to my Galaxy Nexus. So far I have been unable to activate it. When I turn it on and it says it is activating, it just hangs for 10-15 minutes and then errors out. It suggests going to a place with service, but I can see on-screen that I have 2-3 bars of 3G service consistently. It seemed odd that it never connected to 4G, but maybe that only comes post-activation, I don't know.
I'm probably going to head to the VZW store this afternoon to see if they can help me, but I wanted to post this to see if others had any issues when trying to activate their G2s.
Thanks!
Are you using the SIM card that came with the phone? If you have a SIM from your current phone, did you try putting that in instead?
did it come with two cards? one in the phone and one in the box? however you have a nexus so you should've been able to use your old sim card.
if it came with one in the box, use that one. apparently they shipped out bad ones inserted in the phone and gave replacements in the box. happened to my brother. his activated after switching

Ahhhh, no, I did not switch SIM cards. This is the first time I have tried activating a phone on my own outside of a store, so I didn't know about that step. The G2 came with a SIM card already in it, and there wasn't another one in the box. I'll try taking the one out of my Nexus and putting it in the G2 in just a bit.
Thank you both for the tip!

That did it. Quick and painless when you do it the right way.

The beauty of SIM cards!
Today I noticed my Nexus 4 has no signal. Things I have tried included:
Rebooting the phone multiple times
Turning on roaming and resetting APN
Checking the sim card
Switching sim cards with my brother, in which my phone was not working with his sim card either. I guess this mean's the problem is my phone.
I bought the phone on Craigslist about 3 months ago in October of last year. Seller seemed reliable. Gave me her phone number and was willing to make the transaction in a public place in front of cameras.
My brother and I have both been using T-mobile before their big contract cancellation reimbursement offer.
I still have an IMEI number
So does anyone know what's the problem with this and how I can fix it?
Have you phoned you're carrier and made sure the phone hasn't been reported stolen or missing as you would still have an IMEI number but that number would be turned off all mobile networks.
If its not been reported and you have tried everything you say like APN e.t.c its probably a hardware fault.
Have you tried phoning her to make sure her numbers legitimate and weather she knows of any possible problems ?.

According to T-mobile tech support, the previous owner stopped making payments to pay off the phone so now it's shut off.
You won't be able to get the phone back on data then unfortunately.
I also think 3 months is to long to open up a dispute with PayPal ( if you paid via them).
You can try contacting her for help.
If not you will have to put it down as a mistake you won't do again.
Feel sorry for you though.

Hi guys, so I have a question about a note 3 that i bought recently from someone and there is an issue with it. When I put my sim card in, it says not registered to network but I have signal bars. Anyways, I did some research around but all the solutions seem to have been for ROOTED phones and how to fix it with rooting.
This phone is not rooted right now so I wonder if the issue is that the phone was rooted before, after a factory reset, the unregistered sim issue was caused? I still have an IMEI number so I don't think that is the issue. If anyone can help give me a solution, that would be great! I just got my note 3 so I don't really know the hang of what's going on on XDA for this phone.
I had a nearly similar issue on Saturday, but it was due to Orange changing my number over from my old sim which I was using to a new one that I had not used, but was deliveered with the phone the week before. Maybe get in touch with your provider?

Hey XDA,
I noticed that the note 3 I bought has a different IMEI in the settings menu as opposed to the IMEI listed on the sticker on the back of the phone.
The phone works fine as it connects to the LTE network here in Canada (Rogers) but it has older software, 4.4.2 KitKat.
My question is can I still update the software to lollipop?
I don't want to be left with a lemon/paper weight.
Thanks.

Hard to say... but only way to find out is backup first (nandroid), then update. Often the IMEI is fixed or returned to original status if you flash the proper region rom it originally came from. So it's possible the wrong region rom was flashed on it (so you have generic or repaired IMEI).
Maybe you should contact the people you got it from and find out what's that all about.

Well... you could check the IMEI Here (Canadian site for coincidence )
Also DL and use Phone INFO Samsung from Play Store - it gives you all the info from your phone so you can compare what it IS with what it originally was. (so you can actually install the right firmware for the phone, not just what the Settings say... )
So I checked the IMEI and the one listed in the settings is fine but when one listed on the back of the phone is blacklisted.
So for sure I got scammed. I attempted to contact my seller and of course they are not replying.
I also downloaded " phone info Samsung" but I'm unsure how to differentiate what it "was"

Well, you have 2 choices then. Either try to have this one working... or report to the police. But police will most likely take your phone as evidence and you won't have one anymore... but, if you care to have it all legal, better do it. If/when they do catch the scammer, you might get your money back.
Sounds lame, but good luck!
Thanks for the help.... I'll see what I can do.
