Odd shutdown/battery problem. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had this fault for nearly two weeks now where the phone will randomly shutdown and when restarted will immediately shutdown again. The only thing that will solve it, temporarily, is to remove the back cover and disconnect and reconnect the battery. After this the phone will start first time.
Anyone else experienced this? Would a new battery solve it? (Battery life is fine at the moment so maybe not this?)
This has happened while running both 4.2.2 and 4.3 My phone isn't unlocked or rooted, completely stock.
Any help much appreciated.

seems as your power button might be getting "stuck" pushed in. that would explain random shutdowns(pushing the button in for 10 seconds force shuts down the phone) and boot up.

That would cause the effects I'm seeing but when trying to start the phone it always "feels" like its working properly. I'll keep it in mind for the next time it happens though.

[Q] Random Shutdowns on G2

Has anyone had an issue where the phone just shuts down? Mine has done this about 3 times after it has been on for over 5+ hours it just turns off... Doesn't restart.
Sometimes I can hold the power button and it turns back on starting at the HTC screen, other times I have to take out the battery and then power it back on.
Does anyone know what would cause this? Or how to fix it? Should I exchange my phone?
Thanks!

Mine did this due to the batter being lose. I was able to rock the batter on the lower left corner when the back was off. After I wiggled the battery, sd, and sim around I was able to get rid of the rocking and the battery was secure. You should check for this.
Thanks for the quick responce. I just cheched, everything seems very snug. I took SIM, Battery, And SD Card out and reinserted them.. I should know tomorrow if it fixes it, seems to do it once a day or so...
If anyone else has ideas please let me know... If it continues I need to get it relaced before my 14 days.
Just exchange your phone. Its not supposed to do that.

This evening I experienced the problem where the phone is frozen with the screen off and does not respond to any button presses for the first time. When I removed the battery so I could restart I noticed that the SD card holder had unlocked and was popped up. I know my G1 would hang and/or reboot when a bump caused my SD card to pop loose, so maybe the same thing is happening with the G2.
Hmm, very weird as I haven't had any problems with it doing this, like above stated, I'd just return the phone over something like that, it happens.

Phone died then came back to life

I wonder what the hell happened to my phone this morning, I thought it was dead. This morning at 4am, I pressed the home button, the clock and date were there as usual on the lockscreen. But there was no lockscreen, just a completely black background. I tried swiping it, nothing. Pressed the power button and the phone became completely dead, nothing happening, couldn't even get the time and date back. Connected to mains charger, nothing, no icon. Left it overnight till just now. Pressed power button, nothing. Connected to USB, nothing. Took battery cover off, removed sim card ready to put back in my old phone. Removed battery which was firmly in and then put battery back in after a few seconds. Everything fired up fine and it said 100% battery charge since obviously charging overnight.
Something up with the battery connection? It's not like the battery was loose in the compartment, it was slotted in as it should be as far as I could tell since I installed it when the phone was new 2 weeks ago. Yet removing the battery and putting it back seemed to cure the issue.
Seems it was a crash my phone experienced. Normal to have crashes or faulty phone? Only have launcher pro installed, no rooting, no drops, knocks or shocks to the phone.
Strange problem you had. I've had several crashes already, but all the ones that involved the phone itself crashing resulted in automatic reboots. I have a lot of stuff installed, but most of the time it's a game that'll crash it.
you could have solved this problem much earlier honestly.
in such cases it is very common to first take out the battery, wait a while and reinsert it. would have brought you the same solution in probably 10 minutes

Well if I'd known to do that straight away, don't you think I would have done?

[Q] LG G2 Won't turn on, cannot get to download mode

My AT&T LG G2 (plain D800) is rooted, and has Xposed installed on it (I'm not sure if this caused the issue or not), but here's what I'm having problems with:
I was playing a game, when all of a sudden the phone froze (no biggie, it's done it before, I've held the power button to force restart it, and it works), but the phone shut off on it's own, and would/will not turn back on.
Tge LG boot logo comes up intermittently when I hold power and volume up, but only sometimes. The phone has only twice now gotten to the AT&T logo, but freezes immediately and shuts down. I've tried literally every combination of holding buttons, for up to 70 seconds at a time, both on the charger, off the charger, and while plugging into the charger.
I cannot get to download mode, I cannot get to TWRP, and can obviously not boot into the phone. I had made no changes in weeks prior to this happening, so I can't see why or how something with my phone being rooted would cause the problem.
I've left the phone charged overnight before performing the actions (the phone won't even show battery percentage), so I don't think it's a dead battery issue. Everything I've read so far seems to say that the battery chip has died and needs to be replaced. Somehow I don't think it's the problem.
I'm fully willing to completely wipe the rom, and everything on it, as long as I can get the phone working again. However I cannot boot into download mode to use ADB or anything.
Is my phone completely bricked? Or is there a chance that the battery chip really is fried? Please help!
Update!
I left the phone charging some more, and decided to try volume up and power (while plugged in). The phone actually went into download mode for about 5 seconds before shutting off again. I tried doing the same steps, but nothing will come up again. It appears to be an issue with the battery on the device. Does anyone else think otherwise? Or will I have to send it in for a new battery? (The phone is less than a year old so I don't want to void the warranty anymore than rooting, which they wouldn't be able to tell since it won't turn on anyways).
Update Again:
I can get the phone to show the LG logo/download mode on a fairly consistent basis, sometimes showing a static screen (colored noise, not monotone), sometimes a blue screen, but it will shut off after 5-6 seconds every time.
Hey, I do not want to announce bad but by your description it seems that did you mother board, go to the lab to make sure, I had something similar and I replaced the motherboard and my phone came on time, check if the device is still under warranty has a good chance to replace you under warranty, good luck.

[Q] LG G2 suddenly stopped booting

So my stock LG G2 just suddenly stopped working last night. The battery died, and I haven't been able to boot it up since, even after charging overnight. The only kind of response I get from it is if I hold the power button, there is a short vibrate every 2-3 seconds while I'm holding it. Sometimes after ~15-20 seconds it will stop vibrating, other times it will keep vibrating every few seconds until I give up on holding the button. Other than the vibration, there is absolutely no kind of response from the phone, no charging LED or anything like that. The same thing happens regardless of whether it is plugged in and charging or not. I've tried connecting it to my computer, but the device just isn't recognized whatsoever, so I can't use adb to try to boot to recovery or anything like that. I've rooted my G2 in the past, but I believe that I've had it replaced since then and the new device has always been completely stock.
I'm completely at a loss for what to do, it seems as though the device just bricked itself. I'm hesitant to try to get a replacement device through Verizon, as I'm only 4 months from an upgrade and will be getting a completely new phone then anyway. Does anyone have any idea what could possibly have gone wrong or how I could go about fixing it? If I have to wipe everything that's fine, as I was going to root it and install a custom ROM soon anyway.
Right now, my only idea is to get something to hold the power button down and let the phone vibrate until the battery dies, but that will take a while and isn't too likely to fix the problem. I'd greatly appreciate any advice from anyone who might know how to fix this.

Nook ST freezes completely and more.

Hello,
I have problem with my NST. Sometimes it completely freezes. Reset didnt work, I have to replug battery to reset it. And often battery is in bad condition after reset.
Sometimes aslo is situation that in default reading application pages are turning very fast and I cant stop it. you have to lock device (click power button) to stop it.
Also "touch screen" sometimes stooped work. Reset device always help to solve this problem.
First problem is the most problematic for me. I have to remove Torx screw and after that I`m not sure if nook dont need recharge - even if battery was in good condition before freeze.
Have you any solutions?
Hello puszcza,

I never needed to remove the battery. But there were occasions, when I was unable to reset, the usual way. Most of the times, it helps pressing and holding the power button for really long time (20sec). But as my device getting older, it sometimes freezes during boot However what always worked for me, is to plug in an usb cable. After a few seconds my NST booted every time with no trouble. One of my friends suggested - and I'm on his side - that these problems may be related to battery and the power supply circuitry. Poor quality of these parts, can cause voltage levels to fall or be unstable, and make the system crash. It could explain, why things getting worse as time goes by.

I used to face this bug frequently, but nowadays I don't. As far as i can remember, i noticed that when it happened i pushed the UPPER LEFT button. So, in my case, it might be because of the stuck button.
Anyway in the past few days my nook is freezes so frequently, I can't stand it any longer. And factory reset did not help. So I will replace the stock rom, and see what happens. I hope it will work. I will report my results here.
Thank you for repose.
I tried to hold power button really long - didnt hep. When its frozen and I connect it to charge I see green LED light. It should be orange, green is for full-charged.
For this moment I have custom rom, but these problems shoved also on stock rom.
I`ve be glad for totally frozen Nook tips.
So I installed some custom ROMs from these forums. But it didn't helped. Still freezes after some hours, and still the only way to restart it is to plug it in. I really don't have any idea other than some issue with battery.
You might find that your battery is getting old.
You can run a battery utility or my UsbMode.apk and see what the battery is doing.
If you let it run, you might see that your Nook freezes at what should be an adequate battery level, like 40%.
The battery is discharging, then falling off the cliff.
A replacement battery might be the solution.
In my case, I think my NSTGL was freezing sometimes because of ReLaunch (it happened with all versions from 1.3.8 through current 1.4.4), so some time ago I've deleted ReLaunch and using now Zeam Launcher instead - so far no freezing for quite a while. And in my case, I was able to force restart my nook by long pressing the power button.
Update: April 24, 2016 - No, it wasn't ReLaunch, it is Nook itself, and obviously - the battery is the culprit.
