[Q] Note 3 on Vodafone UK much Bloatware? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm on the verge of ordering a Note 3 on Vodafone UK and i'm wondering if it ships with much bloatware/branding? I've had a bad experience before and wondered if any xda users could shed any light.

Vodafone note 3 is probably the least bloated Out of all UK carriers. You get stock boot animation. And only 3 voda apps with 1 widget. All of which have no bother to the user if never used. And you can very easily change it to unbranded and have no voda apps at all.

EE looks pretty much like stock, with one extra app installed (Deezer). I'd say that's less bloat than Vodafone.

My Vodafone Ireland note 3 has some mobile branded apps alright but no branded boot animation lots of Samsung bloatware but I installed apex launcher and made it look like vanilla android for the time being at least until I get rooted. All in all a super fast piece of kit

I got my Note 3 from Vodafone (UK) today and I'm not seeing any Vodafone branded apps, widgets or anything.
Can I tell from the system software if it is a completely unbranded/generic handset?

Got mine from phones 4 U on orange. There is an orange wifi app and that's it. No widgets either.

Yes. Type *#1234# in the dialer app and look at the CSC code. Unbranded UK is BTU, Vodafone UK is VOD.

I'm not sure that's right. I'm on an unbranded and for the CSC when entering that code I get OXABMJ1

Yeah, it's not right.
The firmware CSC stated above is OXA and that firmware is a multi-CSC for "Open/Europe", as it contains BTU and other major European CSCs. BTU is UK.
You can find which CSC has been applied in your phone by invoking the recovery menu: keep volume up and home whilst you power up the phone.

Ah thanks guys, using the recovery menu my CSC shows as VOD.

BTU is UK unlocked I believe.I'm unlocked as I got mine from carphone warehouse.
If you're on EE it should be an N7105 anyway shouldn't it?

When I saw that 'they' downloaded an update pack to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (without asking me if I need it) I immediately went to Settings + Applications manager + All + Software update (and disabled it, plus cleared data and cache).
So, I'm still sitting with my 4.1.1. The SUPERPHONE is extremely smooth, without lag or bugs. So, if everything is perfect why I need this ridiculous update?

You might need it depending on whether your phone is susceptible to the sudden death syndrome.
I can confirm that the battery life issue for 4.1.2 has been fixed since the previous update, so there's no reason not to update really...

Sudden death -yes
Battery life - not even close. 4.1.1 is still much better than 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 when it comes to that
I get between 5-8 hours of screen on time on both. So no difference.

[Q] 7105 4.3 update and locking

I have a Galaxy Note 2 7105 bought in Hong Kong that I have been using in the UK. The phone has prompted me that I can upgrade to Android 4.3, however I am concerned that this will include the recent regional locking update causing some issues for Galaxy Note 3 users. Can anyone set my mind at ease about accepting the update and not getting locked out of my phone?
Thanks,
James
Chain fire has already cracked this region lock.
The region lock was implemented in a way such as the home network is in the whitelist and the rest of the networks from other region falls in the black list.Chainfire's app/crack just removed all the networks from the blacklist.
Although you should read his threads regarding this.

Many thanks for your response. I haven't seen any experiences of people who have tried this crack on the note 2 - does it require the device to be rooted (it is currently not)? Should the hack be installed before or after the 4.3 update?

[Q] Anyone flashed N9005XXUDMK2 N9005OXADMK2 BTU (UK) ?

Anyone flashed the following file ? Its BTU for the UK
Model: SM-N9005

I had previously flashed N9005XXUDMJ7 But was getting terrible battery life. Now I've gone to N9005XXUDMJ6 (H3G) and things are better. Just don't know if I should experiment with this one.
Cheers for the heads up

Cool. Great to see someone on Three needing the same flashing requirements as me.
Any good so far ?
I toyed switching to H3G firmware, but decided against it (for now at least) - I was on BTU - Just switched ROMs to Crash rom with MK2 battery is pretty stable tbh better than when I originally got the phone. Everything is far smoother also, not sure I can go back to stock lol
I have MK2 since last night and it consumed only 2% battery till morning. So it is good till now.

How is your wakelock status? - Phone went into deep sleep without any issues then?
I don't know what app to use to see that. But what apps I have do not show something keeping the phone awake. And 2% over night is good I say.

Although I am also on the three network, I bought my note 3 from expansys and it was unlocked, so I went for the update via kies 3 which now gives me JSS15J.N9005XXUDMK2
The only change I can see is my network mode now shows LTE/WCDMA/GSM selected by default, no LTE there before update, battery seems slightly better maybe?
Oh interesting, LTE added now. I wondered when Three were gonna issue the LTE update with software.

It won't actually work on the LTE frequencies though, until they turn on the LTE towers, I read on their website rollout will start round about now in certain areas of the country, with more and more being added to the "LTE Enable Area" list next year

Yeah supposed to be live here (York) in January, Was wondering how they were gonna apply the update to enable LTE via (Unbranded) Phones not purchased through Three directly.
I'd have assumed that if it was available on your tariff, it would have just worked, whether the option to choose that band was in mobile options or not, as my mate picked his up unbranded N3 and he got LTE straight out the box as it's enable on his 4G account, admittedly I didn't check what version came on his phone before he ran the OTA, but it wasn't this latest one.
Us lot with unbranded phones and on Three, should see it just work and kick in, once we're in an enabled area, as they are activating 4G for everyone, no nasty price increases.or download limits imposed.... happy days

[Q] How many signal bars does your Note 3 have?

Just out of curiosity, how many signal bars does your Note 3 have in total?
I was watching a Note 3 video review and their phone had five signal bars, whereas mine only has four. This was an American Note 3.
Could you please tell me how many signal bars you have and the model number, country of your Note 3? I'm just curious.
Thanks!

Oh damn, didn't knew that. Although I prefer 5 signal bars rather than 4. It seems that it's more precise to me, as sometimes the 4 signal bars wouldn't show exactly the level of the signal in my oppinion.
Maybe if you flash Simplistic framework (if it's compatible with your build) and then use wanam module it will work (?), because it does change the system ui which directly affects your device if I'm correct.

[Q] Different variants

I live in Australia and there is a couple of different models being sold by different retailers here namely SM-G900X and SM-G900I. With all my previous Galaxy phones I used to flash them to Polish ROMs as they got firmware updates well in advance of Australia but the Polish ROM is SM-G900F. Is there any issue still doing this does anyone know? I cant even find a 900I ROM to reflash with if something goes wrong and I don't want to brick my phone the second day I have it.
Anyone have any idea? Also the Australian 900I version has its dock icons locked which is annoying.

Ok I gave up waiting for an answer and went and saw a friend in retail with stock and we tried it on his demo unit. You CAN NOT flash a 900F from onto a 900I it errors out before it begins saying the model is different.
Seems like we are stuck with the handicaps imposed on our model as Samsung has chosen to make regional models.
