I have a Verizon G2, regular root method and stock rom. Under application manager, under All apps, the largest app is Contacts Storage at 4GB. What's taking up so much space??
Edit: I don't have the Facebook app, and I use the stock messaging app, contacts whatever. Also I have two google accounts tied to the phone but only syncs with one. Anyone have any idea why it takes up 4GB? (shows as data in app)
Anyone have the faintest idea? I can post a screenshot if that would help. I only have around 200 contacts synced to my google account.
You cab try and see if diskusage from the store gives you a more detailed view on what this is.
Thanks for the reply. I installed diskusage but when I expand contacts, all I see is a 4096mb data file. I imported all of my old text messages using SMSbackup, could that be what's taking up 4GB?

The bible is about 4MB big. As long as you don't have messages worth a thousand bibles that can't be the reason. You could try to backup all the contacts that aren't on Google to your sim and then clear data for the contract storage in settings-apps-all-contact storage. But i don't guarantee that you won't miss any contacts. Maybe back it up with titanium too begotten clearing data?
I'll do both before I wipe the data and I'll post what happens after. Thanks!!
So I backed up Contacts Storage with Titanium Backup and Super Backup. Then I cleared Contacts data in Application Manager (it warned me that it would delete data, accounts, and some other things). I lost all my contacts but a minute later they all appeared again from my phone syncing my google account. Now Contacts Storage app says 1.71MB! I wonder what took up all that space though. I don't seem to have lost anything else but maybe I'll find something later as I keep using my phone.

Contact photos maybe? Still a ton of storage for only 200 contacts even with high res photos.
Definitely not contact photos. I only have photos for like 10 contacts and they are blurry as heck, haha. Been poking around on my phone for a day now and I still haven't found anything missing after clearing the 4GB of contacts storage.

Whenever I look at a text message conversation it puts "Me" as blank picture: (see first picture).
But whenever I try to edit "Me" from the "People" application, the device just hangs and won't let me edit anything. Does this happen to anyone else or does anyone know where to fix it? Thanks!

From what I remember reading a while back, you will need to make sure that your sim card has your number set in to it... From what I remember reading, you can do this using an iphone or a blackberry... The cyanogenmod rom used to do this from what I recall... But can't say 100%...
Unless someone can correct me, as I only used android for a few weeks
I'd like to piggyback off this question and ask if theres a way to make one of our contacts "Me" or just overwrite it.

On Windows Mobile there was an option to copy any contact into the "Me" contact but I can't find that option, should there be one on Android!
The "Me" thing is an HTC thing, not an ANDROID thing. In Vanilla Android there is nothing like this in the People area, you just have a contact card of yourself. I can edit my "Me" information fine. If you go on Google.com and edit your contacts with your name, it seems to change it as you login to facebook and stuff and it auto associates you with yourself, ie my Facebook is Josh ______, my twitter is GlitchZero, it auto links these things to "Me" or "Josh ______" in my Google contacts.
Ah thank you for that information. I did a hard reset & made sure "Me" was not associated with any Facebook or Google account & it works perfectly, thanks!

Glad I could help.
hello everybody my name is brad
so last week my battery seemed to be draining quickly on sat. was going to go trade battery on Monday but everything seemed back to normal. then today i noticed random restarts.
later in afternoon the messaging app would go directly to compose a blank message with no recipient, when hitting the back button it would then just directly back to home screen. i app killed it, force stopped it all kinds of stuff. then after restarting all my messages were gone except the ones on sim card! yeah tmobile was a sheet load of help, not. Anyway i assume the messages are permanently gone. for future problems what is best way to back up sms? free app preferably.
so to end this, think its a bad battery or internal memory? bad battery? and where are sms messages stored, internal or sdcard?
oh and one last thing. only thing i installed recently was the new mail app.
thanks - brad
are you rooted?

Best way to backup is an app in the Market called SMS backup and restore. Backs up to SD card.
As far as the reboots, have you tried turning USB debugging on? That seems to have helped some people with the issue.
Here's a shot of the app:

Ok I have an HTC G2 rooted on virtuous ROM.
For some reason my handcent has been very sluggish
And borderline DEAD lately.
I don't know exactly what's going on, I haven't done anything different now from any other time but its quite annoying.
I installed watch dog to see if maybe something was eating up all my CPU and I just got an alert today that MessageCS is exceeding the cpu threshold. Hopefull someone can help.

sheesh no one got any ideas or help?
Ah yes I posted about something similar in the Virtuous Unity thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15073041&postcount=884
With me it was something to do with syncing my HTC Sense account to the phone, and removing it from the Accounts & Sync list got rid of the issue.
whats odd is i do not have the HTC Sense account created.
look here:

this is how my accounts and sync options look.
maybe its the HTC facebook?
also, my handcent app seems to keep force closing and lagging heavily.
this could be another reason....
Yeah I'm not really sure what's causing your MessageCS process to hog the CPU. The process is normally associated with syncing with the SMS database so if you're not really syncing it with anything, you could just try freezing the process with AntTek App Manager Root or the paid version of Titanium.
Alternatively, it's possible that you have some kind of corruption in the SMS database. I might try something like backing up all the sms, and then wiping the database. If the SMS database is causing the problem, the MessageCS process shouldn't misbehave after the wipe.
After that, I'd try restoring my messages. Something like "SMS Backup and Restore" can do this, but it won't backup any MMS. I'm not sure if Handcent has this function, but GO SMS can backup both SMS and MMS I think.
Good luck.
Hi,
I set all images to be stored in external card and I can see there are about 17gb images data in external drive. However when I check the usage of gallery app why it is taking 4gb space from the internal storage? I only have very few images in internal which are mainly from apps such WhatsApp or other default video, and those are not more than 100mb in total.
Anyone else having the same issue?
Does the gallery app size grow as well (eg. For thumbnail purpose perhaps?) if the more I put images in external card?

No nothing that I can find so far. I decided to try clicking 'clear data' and now reduced to 320mb. I assume that is for the thumbnail. Although that was showing 4gb before I didn't get about 4gb back on the available space now. This is weird, It is more or less I'm getting the similar available space as before.

Hiya XDA,
Only a small issue but it's annoying nonetheless so I was hoping one of you great folks might be able to help me out. Whilst snapping a couple of HDR pictures on holiday, my Nexus 4 (running stock 4.3) crashed and rebooted. Since the crash, the order of photos has been lost in the camera folder in the stock gallery. Rather than having the most recent photos at the front and moving back chronologically, photospheres have now been moved to the front in chronological order, and after that are all my standard, non-photosphere pictures.
The reason this is annoying is because whenever I take a new picture, I can no longer swipe to get to the picture I just took. Instead swiping on the camera brings up the first picture in the gallery, which is a photosphere I took a few days ago. To get to the picture I just took, I have to scroll way back through all the photospheres in my gallery before arriving at the most recent picture. Photospheres taken after the crash are also appearing way back along with all the ordinary photos.
I've checked the EXIF data for all my photos and the "date taken" information has not been lost or anything, so I cannot understand why the gallery is ordering my photos so randomly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot :victory:
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I've tried clearing the data and cache of the gallery application, but that didn't fix the issue
Firstly using HDR is a really bad idea since it will spam your data partition with useless temporary files which you can delete if you are rooted:

}
Secondly try deleting the thumbnails in that folder, and wipe the gallery data.

Thanks for the reply! I generally try not to use HDR too much, only in situations where there's a high contrast between the items I want in the photo. Otherwise I tend to stick with normal mode. I suspect the use of HDR may be what triggered the crash though...?
I tried deleting the thumbnails cache and wiping gallery data again, but sadly it didn't make any difference
