[Q] Power Button Issue? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I first flashed stock 4.3, JWR, my power button worked flawlessly, every click would turn it on or off, now that I'm on PA 3.99, I have to press the power button multiple times to have for screen to come on or off. Sometimes it works on one go, sometimes it doesn't.

Nooooo... I hope it's not the same story as with HTC One V... I have to use sweep2wake and have huge problems with turning phone on/off... Unfortunately N4 doesn't have those hardware touch buttons that HOV has

That's changing some things... For me it's not power button malfuction, but PA may causing problems with screen drivers responsible for unlocking it... Maybe you've made dirty flash? Try flashing PA again with full wipe and report results

Well it's both for me ;-; is there a fix, I feel the phone isn't noticing that I'm trying to turn on the screen

My power button is the weakest link so far, but I use touch control to counter. Also, how do you have your phone set up(kernel wise)? And If pa is the problem then why not flash another Rom? If not to solve your issue, then to confirm that pa is the culprit.

Before that, Do a clean install most probably try a different ROM(Slimbean v1.6 :good
You can use Franco kernel he has implemented double tap to wake feature in his kernel. :good:
I am using the same.
Press thanks if I helped. :good:

If you go Slimbean and Franco make sure you download the jwr kernel and not the jss kernel. Fku will download the jss kernel by default as slim is one of those hybrid roms.
Remember, Franco's double tap is different from touch to wake in the sense that you can't slide to sleep, at least not yet.....back up your apps with titanium, your sms if needed, reset your phone, flash Rom, gapps, su if need be and you should be good.

Hardware Instrumentation

Hi Guys,
I have a stock but rooted N1 on 2.2.1
I have a slight feeling that my power button is intermittently not responding.
Is there an instrumentation app or something y'all recommend to test hardware with?
I remember in cyanogen(on my g1) there was a spare parts app, which I think could do this. However, I am on a stock image.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks!
i dont know how you could test the button. but i use quickboot app so i never ever have to use the power button. and of course i use cyanogen ROM so i get trackball wake so i never need the power button.

It's just a free app that does all your reboot, power off, recovery stuff for you so you never have to physically press the power button.
well only if you never run out of battery and never want to turn off you phone... but there its supposed to be a truck with that as well. just take our your battery and put it back in. repeat this procedure till your phone turns on. just read about this one though. haven't tried it myself...

The app let's you turn the phone off. The only thing it can't do is if you run out of battery which I've never done anyway and don't do that frequently but yes.
No I do not.
I used to mess with all that stuff with my g1 (since tmo was slow to update)
But I am stupid and happy with my N1 being stock (+root+adblock)
Any other options?
Like using adb to run some testing software or something

N7 keeps taking screenshots

Hello, community!
I have this N7 3G and the problem is that it keeps taking screenshots whenever I press the Power button, without even holding down any of the volume buttons.
I don't know whether this is caused by my custom ROM or any of my applications .Also, I set the gallery to sync with a Dropbox folder, that meaning that those ss' will upload there every time.
If anybody can help me solve this problem I will be grateful!
*I am using Temasek's custom CM Rom with Franco's kernel.
Thanks!

Nope, it isn't. I can press it and adjust volume normally.
I am pretty sure something is causing this, probably an application, but if there is anyone using the temasek's rom just as me, please tell me if you encounter this problem to know whether this is caused by this rom or an application.
mine too
Earlier i went into my gallery and i saw a lot of screenshots that i didnt take.
I don't even know how to take screenshots on N7

Normally you take screenshots by pressing the Power button along with the Volume Down button, not only the Power Button alone.
Other methods are taking them with different applications or maybe your ROM could do that too.

[Q] Screen lock stuck, immediately after waking up the phone - new phone

Hello, as I said in the thread title i have a problem with the screen lock after waking up the phone. It remains stuck, until i push the power button again to close the screen, and then it's working like it should. The problem appears one at 6 or 7 times i wake the phone.
I have tried to change the screen lock method, but i get the same problem, with the pattern activated.
I have also changed two roms, so I guess this is not the issue. It is more likely that an app is the cause of this, but i have the same apps as I had on my Galaxy Nexus, so it is difficult to figure out what is the app causing this. I have paranoid android with franco kernel.
Does anyone have a clue about what the problem could be?

Hi,
Please tell me if I have well understand :
When your phone is in standby mode (screen off) and you push power button, the screen lock appear but you can't unlock it ?
That mean the screen doesn't respond some time (1 to 6-7) after wake-up the phone ?
I don't know why but I want to ask you if you have under-volted your phone ?

That's strange, I have the same settings as you (PA + Franco) without any problems.
I know that Franco's Kernels are great but this is the way that I should follow to try to found the problem.
Do a full wipe and re-install PA + PA Gapp.
Don't install Franco Kernel right now and do the test with PA stock kernel.
If the test is OK, the problem come from Franco's kernel -> ask in Franco's thread
If the problem is still there -> ask in PA thread
You haven't any other problem with your touch screen ? Only with the lock screen ?

Hmmm, that is highly unlikely, as PA is the second rom i have tried, with rasbelly i had the same problem.

I have flashed the stock kernel, for a while it seemed to work better, but 5 minutes ago the screen lock remained stuck again.
I have made a full wipe for the instalation of PA coming from rasbelly, one week ago, still the same problem. As I said, i am almost sure that the problem is caused by an app, but it is quite difficult to see which app is causing this....
screen unlock
Hey I had a similar problem. Do you have Lightflow installed? When I had stock everything, enabling additional LEDs including the LCD backlight had no issues. But apparently with PA and Franco kernel it switches off backlight when you unlock screen. Light flow switches it off. Try disabling that control of LCD backlight maybe? That worked for me

Back and Menu buttons sometimes don't work

Heelo.
I have noticed that sometimes (happened to me 3 times in 4 weeks now) while doing random things (most recentone was when i was looking at a picture on facebook and wanted to exit the picture), back and menu buttons under the screen don't respond. Home button works, touchscreen works, but menu and back key doesn't. In order to make it work I have to turn the screen on and back on so that they start working. I am using OMEGA 3.1 ROM and Faux 003 kernel.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
Check if on stock rom it doesn't work either, or ask in the rom/kernel thread.
Sent with Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT I9505)
As I mentioned it happened 3 times in about 4 weeks now, so it's not a kind of thing that I could test with other roms, because it's very very rare. But I have also noticed that sometimes the same two buttons are less responsive than other times (like sometimes I can barelly press it with a tip of my index finger and it responds, but other times it does not respond when touched with point of finger, it only responds when I touch it with the pad of my finger - does it have something to do with electricity or softer skin on pads of fingers?).
Thank you
I've had this a few times in a bit over a week. Doesn't bother me as it's pretty rare and most likely a bug that will be fixed or possibly bugs in the apps themselves.
Good thing home button still works.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
I also think it's a bug. Just had to ask as I didn't find anything with google
Thank you!!
I think he asked if you could test on a stock rom so you can see if its a hardware issue. Ive had mine for almost 4 weeks now and my back and menu button never failed to respond so far. Im on stock btw.
Same thing has happened to me a few times also.
I will be using an app or something, attempt to push the back button to get out of that app, and all of a sudden both the back button AND menu buttons die.... u press the area where they are located and nothing happens, no vibration, no light up, no nothing. The only way to fix it, is to restart the phone.
Only happens very rarely - and hard to guage when it might occur and repeat, due to its random nature.
Same thing happens to me. Also very rare, it's happened twice in 1 month

Not sure what it is really.
But it is annoying for sure.

Nexus 4 Lock/Power Button Issue

Anyone has experienced problems with the power/lock button? My seems to be loose sometimes. I need to press it two three times before it unlocks. Sometimes on pressing it once it unlocks and locks itself again.
Any similar problems with anyone?
Rooted with stock rom and franco r183
I had this problem on Franco r182 and r183
But no idea whether this is software or hardware related issue!
Thanks in advance!
I've got the exact problem with power button. Maybe it's hardware.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
got the same issue. I have made a work-around by having volume key wake up the device (CM10.2 ROM) and use Screen off and lock from playstore and have a shortcut to lock the screen and use the power button only rarely.
It looks to be a hardware issue. Maybe after sometime I'm planning to open up the phone and see if it can be set right
Make sure you are not undervolting too much. Set the screen-off frequency more than 384 & check if it improves.
I was doing 700mV at 384MHz on screen lock & it was apparently causing the power button to go irresponsive.
Had to press two times to get it recognized.
Please report back what you experience.

Even i have the same issue. What can be done now? I have bought the phone from US and now i stay in india. So i dont have warranty. Is it a button problem or motherboard problem??
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
There's a guide on internet on how to replace the button. If you are a hardware techy guy, you may try that. But first make sure you tried my software workaround.
