I've read on Androidandme.com that the MSM7X30 will be coupled with the adreno 205
Quote :"The new Adreno 205 offers about 4x the graphics performance of the previous Snapdragon (Adreno 200), which is around the equivalent of a PowerVR SGX535"
http://androidandme.com/2010/08/new...ot-a-little-bit-faster-msm7230-cpu-confirmed/
Is this to be expected or are reports the reports of using the old Adreno 200 correct?
Either way very excited for new T-mobile hardware with a keyboard
Check this out
Check out what AndroidSPIN says about it
comparison of the 200 in current snapdragons and the new 205
Crap, might have to wait for this. I know it will be popular! I can't image anything in 3D on this.

Information I'm getting is its 1ghz, with an on-board Adreno 205 GPU.
But nothing is confirmed yet, so who knows.
hopefully some sources can leak us some official specs soon and we can find out what this puppy does. i will talk to my htc friend and see what he can find out for us
Im also seeing official Price of $199 with 2yr contract, $499 without.
yeah, you can see at the top of the pic on tmonews that the page was meant for internal use so i would suspect that to be the final answer on price, and as far as the specs we have so far 500 seems to be a fair price compared to some other phones

So one question, didnt Google say that Gingerbread will only work on 1ghz cpus? Does that mean that the G2 wouldnt get Gingerbread?
those specs have been debunked, and this should be better than having faster CPU since we have great GPU
Plus, we'll be able to OC this baby to 1 GHZ or more anyways. This is gonna be awesome! I kind of wish I hadn't gotten the MTS now. Well, I got it when it first came and G1 was on its last figurative leg anyways. At the time, I had no idea the G2 would be coming out 3 months later. Oh well, I'll end up selling this one or keep it as a backup...
Very interesting... This could be a noob question but do you think you could overclock a gpu for better graphics performance...?

I keep telling myself that it will perform better but I can't convince myself that that's enough...
Gingerbread min reqs?
Someone above said the 1ghz processor requirement for gingerbread (NOT overclocked to 1ghz) is debunked. Where? Is that official? Would be blasphemy to release the G2 without adequate specs to get gingerbread...

absolutely no way that either htc or t-mobile would release an android phone that is not upgradeable to the next iteration of the OS.

It was debunked by Google themselves. It was only the suggested clock speed.

That's lame if true, but it could always be possible that Verizon is only counting the amount of RAM that's actually usable for applications, rather than the whole amount. On the Epic 4G I believe only 325 MB of RAM is used for applications, and the rest is reserved for the system.
phandroid.com/2010/08/27/leaked-samsung-fascinate-equipment-guide-gives-full-spec-run-down/
I think they are referring to 384mb that is usuable ram, since it's stated that there is 512mb total.
It definitely has 512 total. Maybe only 384 usable by eclair. Rest assure this will b just as awesome as the other galaxies. I've had D1, Dx DI, D2, Eris. And I'm using the captivate right now and it blows all of them away. Ill b taking back my captivate and getting the fascinate the day they are available BC att sucks ass. Tried them when my vzw ran out and that was a big mistake. U get what u pay for, and with Verizon that's the beat service in the united states. Can't wait for this phone

There is 384M traditional DRAM and 128M OneDRAM in hummingbird SOC.
http://dev.odroid.com/wiki/odroid-t/pds/FrontPage/s_blockdiagram.jpg
Whats confusing is all the material related to the device seems to explicitly state that the Fascinate DOES have less on-board ram.
Verizon is the only one who officially mentioned the RAM in the specs.
So it's very likely all the galaxy s phones have the same RAM size.

Yeah, Im pretty positive this will be my next personal device. I have confirmed it does indeed have less physical ram compared to the other Galaxy S phones. In spite of this, I will definitely be buying another one once it officially drops. I have been very happy with the fascinate the past couple days.

I'm a new user who is deeply interested in getting the samsung fascinate for verizon but i still have some doubts that maybe you could help me clear up.
A couple questions I would like answered if possible,
1.) You have confirmed it does have less physical ram, how was this? Are you sure its not 384RAM + 128OneDRAM = 512 total? Please go into detail if possible.
2.) "You have been very happy with the fascinate the past couple days" Does this mean you are currently testing it?
Thanks for any info!
Maybe it is all just a misunderstanding, and it really is just the formatted size, but they are pretty clear when they say 384 megs of ram, not 384 formatted. The other phones are mentioned as having 512. Its even said the fascinate is at a disadvantage. Look it up. I dont have anything to post and I am not a tester, no sorry. I meant ive been happy with its performance as a phone(Galaxy S) is all.

Look, lets settle this here. Look at the picture and it says 512mb flash/384mb RAM. Compare that to explanations of RAM for other phone products. That's 512mb flash RAM with 128 used by......... VIDEO. Every computer without a dedicated video card says the same thing. Go look up video cards with dedicated memory and video cards with shared memory. Obviously Sammy's video cpu uses 128k or RAM and they bundle that with the actual RAM of 384 to say 512. But all Galaxy S have only 384k of Ram to use.
I don't think Samsung has ever officially revealed how much RAM the PowerVR SGX 540 uses, but looks like the cat is out of the bag now. No wonder this Video card is such a beast. I wish i could put it in my laptop.
Ok well I want a fascinate so I looked into this issue. I have a friend with a captivate so I downloaded android system info from the market as well as android hardware info. When looking at the max ram available on the captivate, which is documented at 512, the max available ram was 325. If the fascinate has 384 then we are at an advantage. I'm happy will someone with access to a vibrant test this. I will screen cap and post pics

hardware wise, these phones are nearly identical. While its possible they would screw with the RAM, it's not likely considering how tightly the O.S. it integrated into it. The only phone that had a significant part of its Structure changed was the EPIC, which for some odd reason will only have 1 gig of internal FAST STORAGE. I don't think this will be a killer for the unit, but still odd.

keep in mind too that the Fascinate is CDMA while the Vibrant and Captivate are GSM which are big hardware differences. Possibly one of the reasons why they have 16GB onboard memory and the Fascinate/Epic are only 2GB/1GB on board respectively.

Well that proves it. The droid life chart is crap and inaccurate. It claims 512k ram for the captivate, yet my stock captivate is less than 350k.
Are you surprised that unofficial charts are inaccurate?
That chart is from an official VZW training document. Trust me. Thats not something droidlife whipped up, that came FROM samsung and vzw. Its about as official as you can get. Ive seen these before, and thats when I started this thread, not becuase of the phandroid post (I dont read phandroid). So now that these are finally out in the open, the internal Galaxy S comparison chart is what I have been referring to.
I wonder if someone could take the innards of the Nexus 7 and place it into the body of a 10" tablet...
Wondering if this could be possible to hack a quad core processor to a bigger screen without much extra programming or modifying?
Also, why are all the tablets that I have seen only have 1 GB Ram, Is extra Ram really that hard to upgrade or produce without extra or costly manufactures modifications or is it at some kind of technological threshold at this point.
Would really like to see a tablet that could have extra slots for more ram like a laptop.
Questions go in the Q&A section
Nexus 7 Q&A
I believe I posted a question in the "Nexus 7 "Q&A" section. Is this section not for questions, even though it says "Nexus 7 Q&A"? Seriously?
There are quad core 10 inch tablets already available.
There is no need for more than 1GB of RAM. Android uses RAM efficiently enough that 1 should be more than enough.

The One X is a HTC Sense based device which uses more memory/ram natively. This is s aosp device so I don't think we'll have that issue. And as you said HTC modifies things. The Nexus 7 will not be modified unless someone tries to port HTC Sense 4.0 rom for it.

Feeling really duped being a UK owner. (Still annoyed at UK Xoom update farce)
What is worrying is that according to this article http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2012/...s3-us-carrier-availability-jelly-bean-update/ it's because Samsung are worried about the hardware for jellybean.

I see you are joining the ranks of Motorola when it comes to letting down UK buyers (refering to the ICS update for UK Xooms). I have just seen that while we have 1GB of RAM you are increasing this to 2GB for just about everyone else - mainly for the forthcoming update to jellybean. Does this mean we wont be getting Jellybean?? Or if we do is 1GB going to be insufficient to get the most out of what we were led to believe was the best phone on the market.
Are we going to be offered an upgrade?
I have only had this phone 2 weeks and already feel like I have been duped.

i very seriously doubt the 2gig ram was because of Jelly the Bean

All s3 with 2GB ram will only be dual core, all s3 with 1GB ram will get quad core.
you decide what you want.
Even the Nexus S is getting jelly bean.
The 2GB of RAM is because the S4 processor in those phones is more memory hungry.
It has nothing to do with Jellybean.
At all.
We have known for a while now that the American versions are getting 2Gbs because of their CPU/GPU.
Your phone will run JB just fine.
This will answer why .

Like people said, the better processor will balance out the lower RAM.
RAM is for keeping things in a handy place that the device can quickly recall, to save it delay of reopening and closing things constantly. An S3.4x (I'll use this as shorthand for quad core) will reach its memory limit faster than an S3.2x, having to put things in swap instead. But the S3.2x doesn't have as good a processor: it wouldn't be able to cope with reopening/closing applications as well as the S3.4x can.
Also, since processor power consumption is not linear, but exponential, the S3.4x can keep all the processors at half the speed each of the S3.2x's would be, when it does need to reopen apps. This will consume less power than the dual core would performing the same task.
So yeah, a 1GB version can't keep remember as many things as the 2GB one. But the 1GB version will finish tasks faster giving it less to need to remember.
Yeah the Korean version has both. But imagine what that will cost! It has that on top of a TV tuner (one which won't work outside South Korea by the way).
Ummm ... I was so angry I didn't read the part about it only having a dual core ...lol. I feel better now.
Lesson learned ... read WHOLE article in future!

Yeah 2GB is damn useless for now, I always have at least 100mb free whatever I'm doing, Android ram management is impressive. Maybe it will change in the next years but for now it's useless but maybe quadcore will be a must have in the next years and dual core will not be enough who knows, anyway since int version will have the best support (official support and dev support from the community) that's the one for me, GPU and audio chip made helped me to decide. Both are almost equal imo.
Seriously guys. That story is bull****. Do you really think that Samsung, the maker of the last two nexus phones and last years best/best selling phone, didn't know about the requirements for jelly bean??
Seriously??
The f*ckin nexus s is getting JB, it has 512mb of ram, 360mb usable.
That story is crap.

Feeling duped as a UK buyer? Dude we get the better cpu, gpu and dac. Honestly doubt that 2gb would make much difference.
Well, My last phone was the N5X 16 GB and I really dont know which variant of the OP5 I should be going for. OFC the higher end one has it's benefits but considering the price is it really worth it? I plan on using the phone for atleast 2 years and I've never used any device over 32 GB memory. Personally I think the higher end model is an overkill. If any of you have used phones with storages over 64GB what are the benefits (other than the obvious ones). I plan on flashing the phone every month or so. Mostly I'll be using it as my primary device for testing. Considering VR is in the scenes do you think 8 GB will be more than necessary?
I don't think 8GB of RAM is necessary at all, but $60 for a jump to 128GB was worth it IMO, and the extra RAM was just the icing on the cake. Most companies charge a $100 premium for a storage bump alone.
Better get 8/128 GB version to be future proof.

Yeah but I don't think saying it's not worth future proofing your phone is a reasonable response. With Custom ROMs, apps requiring more memory, and as more of life just relies on smartphones, I think it's wise to get more RAM and double the storage.

hahah sure but there are custom roms.. and who uses their phone over 2 years these days.
These are my questions too. I had to wait til payday to buy the phone, which they didn't hold it for me like they said they would. So now I'm waiting for the 27th. I'm not sure if I want the 8gb/128gb or the 6gb/64gb. I'm currently using a nexus 6p, so the minimum alone is doubling my ram and my storage. So I know that's all I really NEED. They both feature the same everything else. But, it's available with 2gb more ram, and 2x the storage. Sigh... What to do... I'm pretty sure I want the 8/128
IMHO go for the 6 GB/64 Gb vers. If you have more space u will find more junk to keep. 6/64 is more than sufficient for your purpose. If you are using it mainly for testing what will you do with all the extra space ?
I went with the 64gb model. I was about to order the 128 but after thinking about it, I realized that it is a complete waste for me . Between the fact that 6gb of ram is way more than enough and the fact that with everything being cloud based and streaming , there is just no need for the higher end model. I am using a phone with 4gb ram and 32 gb storage right now and not even close to maxing either one..

2) Further load Chrome with 30 open tabs, several with embedded vidos
3) Now Launch a browser from inside another app (A RSS reader like feedly or even facebook / twitter) navigate within this browser till u find a page with videos (E.g. on techcrunch.com), play the video.
Now try to scroll up and down real fast, and see how the touch response is.

I guess the decision to go with base model 6/64 or higher end 8/128 should entirely depend upon personal use.
If your usual use case is operating 20-25 apps and 30 chrome tabs + games and storing tonnes of photos + videos, sure, go with higher end. However, my usage will not be as demanding as stated so will go with the base model.
This might sound crazy but for me, I simply preferred the appearance of the black one.
I'll be glad to have the 128gb ram - a couple of years ago this would have been really important to me - although with unlimited 4g data and cloud storage / music streaming etc. its less of a factor nowadays.
The difference in price points between the two is reasonable but the biggest draw for me was I wanted the black one.

I don't think it's crazy at all, the black looks stunning and a lot of people buy a specific phone because of how it looks. If I didn't always use a case, I would have gone for the black one as well.
I opted for the 64GB - I've filled it with the apps I use, I use Google Pics to store my photos online .... I have like 40GB left ....Didnt feel the need to pay more for something that I wasnt going to use ( ram or extra memory ) - also i prefer my grey
