Hey guys, Jeff from Sk Canada here.
Im on my 5th Galaxy (S1,S2, Note 1,2,3) and quite liking the 3 so far. As with all my other phones, I like to root and install aftermarket ROMS. Will there be different forums for the Exynos/Snapdragon models?! Im not too sure how many different hardware units there are, and also which company has which, but I have the N900W8 model.
Will this be the forum to follow for that model, or is there another one that will be better suited for me. Thanks?

Why are there so many galaxy forums?
I'm trying to understand because this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1566
Is really busy, with a lot of android roms.
The ATT Galaxy S 3 android rom forums seem much smaller.
Why are these roms not compatible? Is the International version that much more popular?
The international has been out a lot longer than the US version. And they are not compatible due to different hardware.

While it may seem they're all the exact same, the various us versions have different radios and other carrier specific stuff. And remember, the international gs3 has been out since may, of course the devs are used it by now. The non-int versions really only just came out a week ago.

The international Galaxy S3 (i9300) is practically a different phone from any of the US variants, in terms of hardware. It uses a different SoC (system-on-a-chip; different processor and graphics processor) and different cellular radios.
The US variants are also all different in the regard that they each run slightly different software by default, but the only hardware difference is in the cellular radios. They share the same SoC, so it's feasible to port ROMs between them without too much work. This also applies to the Canadian variants and such, as they share the same SoC and hardware as the US variants, with the exception of those cellular radios.
The Verizon version is the black sheep in that it has a locked bootloader, and currently ROMs that utilize a non-stock kernel can only be flashed to it (and work) if a workaround is used.

Reading skills are fundamental.
The majority of noobs read "The" then continued to brick their phones.

PHONE INFORMATION:
Hello all.
Long time user of XDA but kinda confused on this particular thread. I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and have only installed roms from it's respective forum. I also notice other carriers have their own forums as well but this one is just labeled Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I've never knew which phones these forums support or why it exists in the first place. Thank you very much for info and sorry for dumb question.. I just can't seem to find the answers. I do realize I can see what models the roms support and most models are something other than the sprint or verizon models (N900p and N900v) thanks again.
These are the boards for the remaining 6.9 billion inhabitants of planet Earth, namely the ones not living in the USA.
More specifically, these boards are dedicated to the International and/or Unbranded versions of the Note 3. Primarily the N9005(Snapdragon) and N900(Exynos), but also the Canadian N900W8, the Asian models and all other non-US models.
US models have separate boards because they are completely different devices with often completely different firmware. (right down to settings and options.)
All non-US models are variants of the primary models, the N9005 and N900. Aside from a few small, cosmetics software differences, they are all the same. So we've got one place for all of those.
But there's plenty of discussion regarding the US models here too, because the General, Q&A, Accessoires and Apps boards are for all Note 3 variants.
Hope that clears it up a bit.

Hello,
One of my chinese friend just gave me a note 3 Verizon as my old pre 3 died.
I played a little with it and installed Jasmine 6.1 rom. Then i travelled back to home and i found that i can't use any other sim card than verizon.
Is it possible to change that ? I didn't find anything that helps in the forum.
I apologise for my bad manners and my horible english.
Thanks for your answers.
Your English and manners are very good, so no need to apologize.
I'm no expert in moving phones between carriers. What I will suggest to you is that you search the 9005 forum (International Note 3) and perhaps other, more active Note 3 forums (eg Sprint forum). This particular device forum doesn't have a lot of participants.
Maybe you can find some technique that is applicable to the SM-N900V (Verizon Note 3) with the appropriate modifications.
Keep in mind that the 9005 is an Exynos SOC, not a Qualcomm 8974 SOC, so you certainly can not just flash something from over there on to your SM-N900V. Very different hardware than the Verizon/Tmobile/Sprint Note 3's
For what it is worth, I currently have a CM13 hltespr (Sprint) ROM on my phone that has a very tiny set of mods to allow it to work on Verizon. But that situation might be different from yours - that situation is an example of switching between carriers for which there is a Note 3 variant already supported by Samsung. I guess there must be a built-in carrier configuration database , because that mod seems to only change some carrier "index" values.
good luck with your search. Post a solution if you find one!
Hello,
So far nothing new. I'll seek more actively as soon as i can (my workload is a bit heavy these days).
Thanks for your answer.
I flashed this rom DarkLord.S7E.G935FXXU1APEK and i can use the note 3 with Free sim card (i am currently in France).
I need to test more to see if the phone is stable enought and the battery drain is acceptable.
I'll keep in touch if anything change.
Hi. I am aware there is no such thing as The Best Rom for model X. I have installed ROMS before in other smartphones and I've always admired all the effort put on every rom version by their authors.
I'm just asking for personal opinions / experiencies regarding the latest ROMs released for the Galaxy Note 3 (N9005) to help me decide according to the goals below.
I know there is a lot of information in every ROM thread and I have read many of them, but the particular difference with the Notes against other smartphones is the S-pen functionallity. Many roms don't mention the S-pen so It's a little difficult to tell which ones really suport these features, which are important to me.
In my case, I would be very happy if:
- The ROM has pen support (the reason I have the Galaxy Note).
- I think the ideal ROM would be close to the Note line, say, a port of N7, N8 or so.
- Battery Life is good (and/or settings can be tweaked to have better batery. life than stock Lollipop 5.0, if possible.)
- I really like latest Android versions, the newer the better (Android 9), but I can live with an older one (6, 7, 8...) if it's really more stable, fast, or battery life is better.
I apologize to those that don't like this kind of posts. Just a short story: I owned a Note 3 Neo Duos (N7502) for some years, and I was really frustrated because there is just no development, no way to update it from kitkat. And I tried hard. I think I read every possible thread about the N3n duos here and outside. Many apps stopped working with Kitkat, and most notably MICROSOFT ONENOTE, one of the apps I use the most. Plus the battery was getting bad.
I ended up selling a bunch of used equipment last month and decided to give up and say farewell the N7502 for good so I sold it cheap.
To my surprise, two weeks later I was selling a (very) old notebook and out of nothing a buyer offered me a Galaxy Note 3 N9005 as a trade!
I gladly accepted and now I am very happy. The phone is in excellent condition, including the battery.
Now I see myself in the opposite situation. I had so little information and no ROM options for the N7502 and now I have so much and so many for the N9005 it's being very hard to decide. I've been reading the ROM threads for a week or so and I seem to have more doubts than answers.
So, I would like to count with the opinions or impressions of who has already tried some of the custom ROMS.
Thank you!
