ATT Note guys maybe you got last laught :) - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 General

Wife and I got a Note 3 each. Mines on T mob and hers is on ATT networks. She consistently get more signal strength than I do. Both units are on ATT. Apps show mine as approx -111 db and hers as -107db . Signal strength bars wise, she has two and I have one or zero mostly, and thats outside!

I can't help you, sorry, but I have been following your posts for several days so I am subscribing to see what you are able to find out. Good luck buddy!

This is one of the main things that concerns me about running t mobile version on ATT. It may technically work, but is it optimized for their network? I would like the fully unlocked bootloader, but not at the expense of phone funtionality.
And to that end, does visual voicemail work with the T Mobile phone? Just curious.

You mention the word "optimized" in vocabulary this means nothing until now. So perhaps, you have a point. We shall see. Generally speaking I go by whatis on the "box" if frequency is the same and then some then its good to go. I guess we shall see....:good:

Please do. I don't mind sacrificing my self for the majority LOL. Too many variables as my unit maybe within certain tolerences of Sam"soog". Hence why I posted here.

You might wanna do a more proper test than just "Outside"
I'm talking both phones in the exact same spot.

This should be expected, until maybe both phones using the same exact modem. At that point the comparison should be closer but even if you had purchased 2 att n3 and 1 was made from date xx/xx/xx and 2 xx/xx/xx the results might still vary.

Also the csc stuff that happens on first boot seems to be relevant for data speed.. don't give up your hopes yet

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I have had similar experience to the OP in the pass with an HTC HD2 and that was the last time I bought a Tmobile phone to use on AT&T. AT the time what I experienced was AT&T given data priority to their own phones vs. imported or other network phones. According to the 3rd level tech I spoke with during my issues, If you bring a non-AT&T IMEI on their network, they will give it the lowest priority on their network. The device will work but it won't work as good as the AT&T device. The device show up on your account as a unknown phone. It was true back then I am not sure if it is true now. But given the circumstances with the lock bootloader, I would not surprise if AT&T was up to the same old trick but using the different technology or methods.
Keep in mind AT&T has nothing to lose by making sure their phones perform much better on their network. The Note 3 just hit market and the truth will come out soon or later. At this point I am going to stick with AT&T Note 3 and wait for the dust to settle a bit.

Ran same more amateur radio testing side by side with wife's note 3. This time it was in the bedroom. LOL. Her db figures were higher slightly but showed two bars where as mine showed one bar.
I'm thinking the AT&T phone is set to display signal better.

you are correct. the at&t displays a better signal when in reality, the differences between the two versions are insignificant.
I remember comparing the htc one developer edition to the at&t htc one and observing similar conclusions.

You are definitely right about priority on the network. That is still true today.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5

By priority, I presume you guys mean when there is congestion?
With all those who are running T-Mo on ATT, I presume this would become prevalent during peak times or heavy congestion?
I think a good test would be a side-by-side ATT/T-Mo during peak hours to see if the ATT gets faster data...
At the same time, the SIM is an ATT SIM, which is an ATT account. I just wonder how the switch makes the decisions if in fact it prioritizes: Is it based on hardware IMEI or foreign accounts (roaming)?

I'm not sure how it's prioritized. But it would be in times of congestion. I can't explain how he gets less service than his wife.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5

Lets not forget that AT&T fakes signal as well. Its been known when you run an AT&T ROM over a 3rd party ROM. Just some food for thought.

It may fake the bars but it can't fake the dB. That's the issue with the OP.

If that is still the case then I will need a much better case to go out and buy other network phones to use on AT&T's network. My experience was pretty bad with the HTC HD2 during that time.

I believe one of the triggers was the IMEI because AT&T already have database of all the AT&T IMEI. When your IMEI does not match on their database, they normally don't know what kind of device you have. Essentially the network look at you as a step child and put you in the not an AT&T device bucket. I would presume if would definitely take effect during peak congestion time but I think it also play a role in other scenarios too. Again I am speculating on these scenarios but I recall my experience was not good. This was around the time where we did not have any LTE available. Either way, time will tell how they foreign devices with LTE on their network.

AT&T Note or Int

posted this in i717 forum but would also love input from international note owners as well
i currently have the AT&T LTE version of the note
and someone is trying to trade with me for their international version (they have t-mobile) and i'm currently stuck at a crossroads,
i do love the home button on the international and the development they have going on in their forum. However, i feel like development here will start to pick up also (running saurom with holo kernal) i live in San Francisco where LTE is pretty strong for me but the exynos processor does also sound nice. So this is my dilemma, any advice would be appreciated!
Note: yes i did search the forum and have read all the posts regarding at&t vs international but they all go back and forth without solid opinions =/ that is perhaps why i'm stuck right now lol.
I actually have both. There isn't much difference other than processor and LTE so i suggest pick what's important to you and run with it. I've only have the international version for about a day now so i can't comment on battery life as opposed to AT&T's version but then again your in a actual LTE Area where as i am not so that wasn't a factor at all for me. I will probably get rid of my AT&T version soon.

LTE won't be in my area for so long that it just didn't matter and to be honest 6 or 7 mbps down and 1.5 to 2mbps up is sufficient enough for me.

What's more important to you? If you like the different ROMS, development, and possibly getting faster upgrades to the latest OS, then the International Note. If you like better performance, then the International Note. If you like data download speeds on LTE or the ability to use your phone on either AT&T OR T-Mobile, then the AT&T Note.

No need to think. Just get the International. It will have more diverse dev support than the AT&T version will ever get just because of the processor.
Unless you need LTE.

I have an international and I love it BUT I since anyone on this forum uses and abuses their devices, I would seriously consider the AT&T due to the fact you will have no manufacturer service for the international here in the U.S....a 600 brick is far more painful than a 200 brick....

Int note all the way. even stock.. <--better for me anyway. to me it pointless to have LTE with capped data... do you really need that much speed to check facebook and emails lol <----for me no.. plus i use wifi 9 times out of ten at home.. now if we had true unlimited data. then LTE would rock. streaming movies and music etc. but alas capped data you will chew that up in no time..
other points for me. home button.. faster updates vs att.. no lag what so ever compared to the att..( preordered the att note but sold it too laggy and battery life was low ) <---batt life is awesome can go an 8 hour day. normal ,,facebook, emails, text etc, and still have like 80% left.. auto sync is off of course.. as well as gps and bluetooth..

If you are going regular ATT you will have to give them another phone IMEI. I have seen the S3 mentioned but I don't know which would be best. If you are going to ATT through Straight Talk you will not need to do this.

Yes, if you want the best speeds for your nexus you'll have to convince them to change your imei number to an lte device. And then you'll have the highest possible speeds on your device as long as you add the right apn settings. You should be good.

Any aussies on XT905 and Optus 4G?

Any Aussies here with a Telstra XT905 but on Optus and with 4G active?
I'm finding with 4G active I get intermittent signal dropouts - it will go from even 5 bars to none then re-connect shortly. This is intermittent and random, I don't know how often its really happening unless I just happen to see it when I've got the screen on. I started noticing it as it seems to drop voice calls when it happens, normally doesn't kick in on a voice call until >5 minutes.
If I turn off 4G all is fine.
I tried freezing modem fast dormancy and modem stats service as it seemed to be triggering lots of wakelocks, but that didn't affect it.
I'm feeling dumb now signing up for another year and enabling 4G, could have kept trucking on my cheaper non 4G plan lol (and be coming out of contract around now!).
Note I'm on Optus, i have no idea if this happens if I am Telstra. The problem is too intermittent for me to pop in a temporary Telstra SIM and notice it (as I don't want my 'real' number to be offline for more than a short duration). I'm hoping it is indeed carrier related (i.e. so problem is fixed if I go back to Telstra, as opposed to hardware issue). Its intermittent enough so that its impossible to demonstrate in a store, and further I've unlocked/rooted so there goes my warranty anyway!
I'm the only one? Even if you don't have any issues w/ Optus 4G pls let me know so I can distinguish between a phone issue and a general Optus 4G compatibility issue.
3G appears rock solid, switched back to it (battery life FTW) and no issues again.

Not sure if I agree. We've all purchased this "niche" phone so it has a market, but Motorola phones are generally not anywhere near as popular as say SG3 or the like.
Personally I've always used Moto phones since I had the Moto Z6, what a beast! Best sound on a phone ever (ok may of that generation!).
A lot of ppl got put off by the allegedly crappy screen and price.

Bad antenna? Horrible signal and Wi-Fi

Am I the only one that has bad signal with this phone? My Wi-Fi cuts out and I barely get signal in places where I got 4 bars on my iPhone. Is there a fix to this?

Having the same issue with my note 3. Seems to have gotten slightly better the past few days, but still poor compared to my note 2. Thinking about taking it back to Verizon this week. Anyone know how the return/exchange process works? If I exchange it and still have problems then what are my options? Or if I return it do I get my upgrade back? Can I then repurchase it and have another 14 days to test and potentially return it?
This is my only complaint about my phone. No problems on WiFi, but 4G reception is inconsistent and I often find the phone switching to 3G in places my Note 2 wouldn't. In that situation, I can use Tellinfo to force LTE only and I often have reception. The only problem with this is in places where 3G would actually be appropriate, I obviously then have no service.
This leads me to conclude (and hope) that it's a software/modem firmware issue rather than a hardware issue--the device is switching to 3G when staying on LTE would be appropriate. As such, we might hope for a fix.

Mine has a build date of 10/02. I'm hoping this is just a software issue. The signal is not horrible by any means. But it seems to be slightly worse than my note 2. I had a few dropped calls the first few days I owned it(never had one with my note 2) and areas where I would at the very worst have 1 bar of 1x I now have no signal(fades in and out constantly). Sometimes I even struggle to send texts in areas that it was never an issue with the note 2. Now you've got me scared that I'll get an even worse one if I exchange it. Did you get your replacements through Verizon? How painful is the process? Also any experience getting Samsung to fix an issue like this under warranty? I'm not sure what my best option is but I only have two more days before my 14 day exchange period runs out. Fwark.
Not sure of the build date of my first Note 3 , but my second Note 3 has a build date of 10/2 and both have wifi stability issues

Tested my note 3 tonight side by side with my girlfriend's S4 and they had about the same signal strength(note was about 10dBm worse at first but quickly adjusted and was actually better for a short period). But after watching them for about 10 minutes they seemed to be almost identical. My signal seems to be a bit better more recently than it was previously(did a soft reset last night and cleared cache as well). The only time the poor performance is really noticeable is in my living room at home where I now have no service 90% of the time making it very hard to send texts and mms. Previously with my note 2 I had at least one bar of 1x most of the time and rarely lost service completely. Hoping this will improve with a software update. I don't plan on taking mine back since it seems likely to get the same or worse performance from a replacement
My wifi is strong 50mbps, its the 4g thats my issue this radio sucks compared to my 3 year old droid bionic.
I wonder how much of the signal issues has to do with the power management. The radio and s800 provide

I am in downtown San Francisco and at best have only 1 bar showing on 4G. I spoke to VZW service, the rep told me it's counter intuitive: yes San Francisco is saturated as best as VZW can as far as LTE is concerned, but because there are so many people using LTE in such a small area, connectivity is virtually "0".
Is this horse manure?

Signal increase or modem upgrade?

Does anyone know how to boost signal or increase power of antenna!
Here is my problem:, I have a rooted Sprint Galaxy S4 and I work at Atlanta Airport.. My meter shows I have 3 bars and 4 g is connected but I have miserable speeds not even 1meg a second..... My coworkers have Verizon and t mobile and there's be there incredible!
Does anyone know of any fixes or tweaks that I can do to boost my power to my antenna? I do not mind if it uses too much battery because my phone is plugged in most of the day . I have flashed mf9 and now on mja hoping that the baseband would change something for me but nothing works. Anybody know anything that will help? Thank you all in advance.
Sincerely, hopeless

If it's stock, you can just go into settings and update all of your settings. Restart the phone and see if your signal has increased.
If not, you can flash a new model via Odin.

That's the answer to your question. But seriously, there is nothing you can do to improve on an issue that is on Sprint's end, without changing carriers. Don't waste your time flashing modems. The price we pay for unlimited data is Sprint's crappy network. To give you an idea, I can't get 4G in downtown Manhattan.

Some phones have (had anyway) a jack under the battery for a real external antenna. If your phone has that you could get a little microwave antenna from a local radio shop clip it on and put them both on your desk. A bit cumbersome but this is your only real solution unless a new tower is added by your carrier.

What are you getting on 3g op?

I realized that flashing different modems is a waste of time a long time ago, back when I had my Evo and S2. It doesn't do anything significant regarding network speeds or signal strength (that can't be attributed to network load or latency). Anything you do to your device will not fix Sprint's crappy network. While I have seen speeds similar to what you posted (and better), I average less than 10 Mbps on LTE, and that is assuming I get LTE in the first place. This has not changed through the various baseband updates that my phone received.
For the record, I am on NAE, and have been trying to get 4G in parts of downtown Manhattan since I got my device a year ago. Still waiting. If not for unlimited data, I would have dumped sprint years ago. My GF has the same phone on AT&T, and gets LTE practically everywhere. There are places that she has LTE where my phone struggles with 3G.
I never seem to be in 3g...it always shows 4G and 3/4 bars. I've purchased the force roaming prl helper and it does not help data. Nor do I think it is supposed to. I was only doing it so I could put a lot of roaming data on the account so that sprint would try and kick me out of my contract!
I think I will go with T Mobile.

I had flashed MJA and mk2 with no help. I tried NAE but could not get wifi working on it so I gave up. I just don't believe that NAE will be any better than the other ones so I gave up!

Seriously. You are pathetic to force roam your phone so Sprint would kick you out for excessive roaming. Grow some and pay your ETF if you are serious about leaving sprint or trying out a different company.
Just based on that sentence I personally refuse to help you out at all.

With two phones it is close to $650! You pay it for me smart guy! Why should I have to pay, when Sprint is not providing a service that I am paying for? Would you not be upset if you are paying $150 a month or something that sucks?

You know what you signed up for. If you didn't know Sprint was crap in your area I have to say that is your own fault for not doing some research to see what provides the best and most affordable service before you signed the contract. Since you signed it suck it up and deal with it. I have 5 lines with Sprint so it would be over $2000 to pay ETF if I planned on leaving , which I dont. And I'm paying almost $80 more a month. Yeah sometimes the service does suck and 3G data speeds can be horrific at times. But I know Sprint provides me with the most reliable service for texting and making calls (the true function of a phone) for the cheapest price. So I deal with it.
You can sell the two phones and that will cover most of the ETF. Then move on to another company. Did you even think or consider this option?
