GMAIL notification? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, just got my G2.. still playing around with it before I decide to keep it or exchange it for a Note 3 (i previously had a note 2).. anyway one thing i noticed is that i am not getting any notifications of me getting any emails from gmail.
I have checked to make sure that the notification alert is checked, uninstalled, and reinstalled the app but I do not seem to get anything while my note 2 on wifi still gets notifications.
any ideas?

I dont have that issue. Do you have sync app data on? try with just gmail and a factory reset. Also do you have an app which could be obstructing?
Never checked but can also imagine having same account on two phones could be obstructing

Did you go into label setting and enable notification for all message?

notifications - phone + tab

Anyone know a way to have Gmail notifications removed from tablet once I remove them on phone, or vice versa? Same for Facebook too. I feel like all I do is clear notifications for the same things.
Thanks!
Than you are not using your Tab enough.
But I agree, I wish they could sync. Sometime I check my phone, some times I check my N7. :silly:
On my HTC Legend running Gingerbread, if you read an email message on the desktop, the unread notification would automatically disappear. I saw this happening a few times.
Try it!

I have no problems with the notification being dismissed if I read an email on any of my android devices or PC. Same goes for Google talk as well.

Thanks, all; I'll keep working with it. It worked fine for me too PC vs phone, but adding Nex7 seems to have complicated things.
I think I'm just going to turn off FB notifications on both. Don't really care about them anyway.

No Facebook Push Notifications on Nexus 4

Has anyone had issues with no push notifications appearing from the Facebook app on their Nexus 4? I've reinstalled many times, but no dice.
Nope; I get Facebook notifications just fine. Not sure what to suggest might be causing your problem.
That's a good thing! I turn my Facebook notifications off anyways.

i'm having this issue too. Email notifications are also absent. Under settings it shows "sync on" as well as in the actual apps, notifications are turned on.
Both my N4 (cellular data) and Vibrant (on wifi only) are next to each other on my desk and i get every email and fb notification on the vibrant but not the N4. Setting within the apps are identical to each other. This is rather annoying
Ditto...no notifications for me either...I think it's a 4.2 bug because I don't get them on my nexus 7 either

Email and Facebook push notifications have been working for me all evening. 4.2 here...
Use friendcaster, its better. I was having issues with the Facebook app as well.

just uninstalled and reinstalled... Problem solved. I get notifications now
Did you, by chance, restore from a TiBu backup? If so, it broke my notifications for Twitter and Facebook. It was corrected by uninstalling and reinstalling.
Push notifications work just fine on my stock N4... are you using any task managers by chance?

Ugh, I just threw up in my mouth a little. Don't even suggest such a thing.

Go to Facebook. Hit the button with a vertical ellipsis and check your Refresh Interval. Change it to the frequency you prefer (Never is good for me
If that doesn't solve the problem, or you were already not on Never, go to our Sync quick tile from the notification bar. I'm on ParanoidAndroid, and can enable a Sync tile, but it may be different for you. Anyway, make sure you have"Auto-sync app data" enabled.
If none of these work, and you are receiving push notifications from other apps, then go to Settings>Apps>Facebook and clear data. Relogin to Facebook and make sure the refresh interval is not Never.

no backup up. pure stock.
Have you wiped data from "Google framework services"? If you did, that's the reason notifications are not getting pushed in.
Reinstalling the apps or re logging to them should solve the problem. Or just doing a factory reset works too.

I had this fixed with a blackberry emulator. Just google it

[Q] Gmail not working

Starting last night Gmail does not push any email to my phone. Any ideas what happened? Could I have stopped a process that it needs(not Gmail app)?
Did you check your settings? Not trying to be am a$$. Only reason I ask is cause Ive run the root process twice on my Note 3 so far. First time everything was fine. Second time I had to sign in tp google twice, and sync for gmail and other sync options weren't checked

I had this issue. I turned on WiFi and it started to push my emails. I turned it off and it seemed to work fine.
I tried it but it did not seem to work although I was not connected only had WiFi on.
I had this happen too. I had to go into gmail settings, and then click on my email addy. On this page go to the "manage labels" button and make sure your boxes are set to sync and notify. I use like 5 different inboxes so I had to enable sync for each one. It took me forever to find this and I was going insane trying everything to enable sync. I still have no idea what causes this activity.
I've had this happen on galaxy devices. I usually go to Gmail and clear and restore defaults then that usually fixes it. If not then go to accounts and sync and disable sync then re-enable it. One of those should work

I saw that the notify flag was off so I turned it on. I will see if that fixs the problem.

Double Gmail notifications

Cracks the lcd screen on my S4 so was forced to replace it with a new S5
First couple days were spent getting it set up the way I wanted. Seems that while tweaking setting I changed something that has caused me to start getting two sets of notifications for gmail. Strange thing is, they never quite track. One shows 4 new emails and the other 3. If I go into Gmail and turn off notifications both go away.
Anybody have any idea why this would occur or how to fix it.
is there any chance you set up your email using 2 different mail client app?

Not consciously. I only have the gmail app and aquamail set up on my phone. And aquamail only has my home email. Both of the notifications are showing gmail. If I tap the notifications they both take me to gmail.
go to application manager and clear data of gmail, then run it again to see if it fix your problem

Delayed push notifications

Hi all,
Has anyone else noticed a significant delay with push notifications (namely with gmail)?
I've got my old iPhone and the Nexus 6P side by side, and at best the push notifications come in 10 seconds later than the iPhone (sometimes it can take up to 10 minutes). I've tried the push notification fix as suggested for other phones, but got no love there.
Any suggestions?

Set to push, otherwise I'd understand the large delay.

I just realized gmail only does push.
I just tested it on my Nexus 6p and it pushed a few seconds after the email was sent. At first however I had to manually refresh for the first test email, then the second test email pushed to the device.
I tested by sending a email from a icloud account on my macbook and sending to my gmail account on my phone.

It's almost as though there's some power saving feature going on once you lock the screen (this is where the delay happens, when locked).

Same here, seems strange that it's taking so long then...
Also, when deleting an email from the notification, it just keeps popping back up (i.e. not deleting). There's obviously some strange sync issue going on with gmail and exchange
I've had the same problem and haven't found a solution either. Glad to see that I'm not the only one! I posted on Reddit, but it didn't get much play. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3seyj6/delayed_gmail_syncnotifications/
To try and fix the issue, I've (in no particular order):
Removed my Google account and readded
Gone through Gmail settings to make sure that notifications are on, sync is active, managed labels
Gone through the Google account to make sure that Gmail sync is on
Restarted
Uninstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Reinstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Force Stopped Gmail
Cleared data from Gmail
Cleared cache from Gmail
Removed it from optimized apps
Changed my password on computer, then waited for phone to ask to reinput
I'm on a 64 GB Aluminum, unlocked, MDB08M. I do not have my SIM card yet (only Wi-Fi). Perhaps that's the issue?
I'm getting to the point where I'm going to factory reset, but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to, and I'm not optimistic it would help.

Yeah I've done the factory reset already and can confirm it does nothing. I'm beginning to think its the Gmail app, as the rest of my push notifications are faster or the same speed as iOS. Really crap by the Gmail devs if that is the case.
Any decent replacement email apps out there? The Samsung email app was quicker, but not sure if we can get that without rooting and flashing an apk (and even then not sure if it requires touchwiz to function).
With my 6P Hotspoting to tablet and pc email arrives on 6P a minute or 2 after them.
I don't know if this is the same or not. I have this issue with both the Yahoo mail app and the Outlook app. My gmail notifications seem to be showing up reliably, but I never get any Outlook notifications, and Yahoo's are sporadic--one our of every three or four. When I open either app, it then seems to go fetch the incoming emails. On my previous phone, when I open the app, they're already there. I don't believe I have anything set differently in the apps. I would love to figure this out.
So, I did a factory reset and installed nothing but Outlook and Yahoo mail. Then I sent two notes to my Outlook, Yahoo, and Gmail addresses, and all three of each note arrived almost simultaneously. I guess, now, I'll start re-installing essential apps and testing.
Was looking around and saw someone posted on the official Nexus forums; if anyone here is still having the issue, please head over and +1/reply so Google can escalate the fix.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/Ayd_1TOemSE
I'm having the same issue and I've also noticed that IMs on Hangouts are ridiculously slow. You would think that Google would make sure that at least their own apps worked smoothly on their flagship device.
I think I may have solved my sync issues. In the WiFi advanced settings, I switched the WiFi frequency band from Auto to 2.4Ghz. Ever since I did that I've received notifications on my Nexus 6P just as quickly as I do on other devices.
Wow, glad I saw this thread. I've been noticing gmail is slow lately. I thought it might have been my ROM/Kernel combo. I use Inbox and it was fine up until lately. Guess it's a bug for Google to fix. I even spent time last night reflashing stock and starting fresh out of box state.
This is happening to me too..happens on gmail and as well as Google opinion rewards. It's been happening for a little over a week now...hopefully will be fixed soon..
Is it happening to everybody or just a select lucky few?

Lots of users having this issue
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...syncing-issues-in-gmail-inbox-and-other-apps/
I see that lot of people are only discussing about Gmail and other mailing or hangout apps.
I on the other hand am seeing overall notification push delay across all the apps including Whatsapp, Gmail, Facebook etc. I am unrooted and no changes made whatsoever to my android marshmallow. It is also on latest OTA build.
I receive all notifications as soon as I unlock the device, but if my device is lying on a table (even when not in doze mode which means lying for less than 30 minutes) I still don't receive any notification. As soon as I unlock and turn on screen it seems like data connectivity resumed and all notifications starts to flow within 5-10 seconds without even opening those apps to refresh.
I also have not modified any other notification setting and I even tried to keep whatsapp to priority mode + no battery optimization, still Whatsapp is having hard time receiving notification if screen is turned off for more than 5 minutes..
If you are experiencing this kind of an issue and have successfully resolved it, kindly help me.
I've lost email notifications but I have read that Google know about the problem,
