I have my Galaxy Note for 10 weeks and after using it always with 100% brightness there are aging effects.
Specially at blue backgrounds, but also at white and gray I can see the home screen icons, the clock and some buttons from jelly defense (I played jelly defense 3 weeks daily 2 hours) shining darker. (you can see it on the photo)
Now my Galaxy Note is in service for screen changing.
But what can I do in the future to avoid this aging effects? 80% brightness, 90% brightness?
Samsung didn't know this problems (I'll not believe it).
Has anyone practical experience with this problem?
Typically Blue pixels age the fastest. So pick a warm/red background. Avoid 100% brightness. Use auto if possible. Avoid leave screen on for prolonged period. Avoid static text or icon on the screen for too long. Basically the same care you would do to a Plasma TV except even the plasma TV screen(around 80,000 to 100,000 hrs) lasts 10 times longer than the AMOLED screen (estimated around 10,000 to 20,000 hrs).
Looks like you've discovered amoleds dirty little secret. I avoid pixel burnout by using launchers that auto hide the notification bar as well as browsers that allow you to hide the navigation bar such as opera. Opera let's you browse in fill screen mode.
I often refrain from using apps that show static images for long periods of time. I try to use the browser for everything that can be done through the regular Web portal of a site.
There is no way of getting around static images in apps unless the Dev accounts for it. Some devs are aware of amoled burn out and have options to hide navigation bars.
Ultimately you have to be mindful of static images and make sure to either avoid them on your screen for prolonged periods of time or remember to rotate your screen.
This is why I'm not looking forward to virtual buttons on ICS. It will destroy amoled screens for sure. Hopefully Samsung will retain physical button(s)
10 weeks is a pretty short life time, My friend's Nexus One (1yr++) does not have the very slightest hint of screen aging why my the galaxy S2 that I used for just 2 months already had the AM/PM burned in.
Its normal for OLED screens to age but it should not be this fast, this is probably why apple is not looking into OLED screens as the quality and or lifespan could be problematic.
There are some manufacturing defects. Some screens are just fade faster than others. But in general, if you know how to take good care of your screen, it will last a long time. My old Galaxy S lasted over a year without any noticeable burn-in. My new Galaxy S2 has been 4 months w/o any problem.

like the part where you say "noticeable"
no matter how much you try to take care of it. It will happen. Its already there. (Depends to which degree)
My advice apart those ones about hiding the element that are always present.
Do not look for a screen burn in. Or do not look at the ****ty quality of the AMOLED. When you would look on for example on grey/ brown background easiest to spot when going to the marker you would notice the differences between the different parts of the screen. Its not perfectly even from the time its build. The color is displayed in different shades usually presenting itself in "lines".
Had my Note for 1 hour and I noticed it. Brand new.
But then again I know what to look for (proud owner of Galaxy S) and where to look for it.

When I say 'noticeable', I meant to use screen test patterns. Last time I did that with my Galaxy S, I don't see any burn in with the test patterns at all. But I agree one should not purposfully sort after the burn in. It will always be there. But I also don't need live in panic. The great contrast of the screen (or infinite black) outweights any shortcomings it has. Side by side with an iPhone 4/4s, I simply can't stand the foggy looking screen of the LCD on iPhones. Every iPhone owners I encounter liked my SAMOLE screen better.

Hello fellow Galaxy S owner, This is the phone that brought up my standards and expectation for a SAMOLED device. I never saw any lines/uneven screen brightness and other garbage on my Galaxy S, even on greys. So this has brought up my expectation for a very high level which was crushed by the Galaxy Note's screen.

Good for you, I bought the device as a while package with the top concern about screen build quality and as an HD playback device which it does not meet the purpose
Just a quick tip I picked up from someone else on this site (I forget now who it was, sorry). Change your clock from 12 to 24 hour every now and then (and visa versa), it shifts all the icons along a little
This is both an interesting and depressing post to find. I was so excited to order my International Note soon, but now I'm super paranoid about screen aging. I've read so much conflicting information about it online, I don't even know what to believe anymore.

In terms of lifespan, LCDs still trump amoleds. That's a fact you'll have to live with.
No screen technology is perfect. SAMOLED for the moment has the problem that pixels decrease in brightness with ussage. So try to minimize the amount of light you get off the screen. That will also give you more battery life.
Try to use black backgrounds, and white text on black background if the application allows it. Of course if you spend 3 hours a day on a game with static icons and menus, that will wear some pixels more than others and you'll end up with something like the OP.
If you go looking for small variations of color, you're going to find them. But the superior brightness and contrast of a SAMOLED screen wins me over. Even when I know its effemeral and will degrade with time. But anyway, who keeps a phone more than 2 years?
Yeah, but I just found this information for the first time today, which is why I'm so depressed. I'm a digital artist so having a nice little on-the-go sketchpad has me super excited, but also worried because of the screen. Expansys tells me there's a 2 year warranty, but I don't know how that would work on an international phone if the screen goes bad...

I wonder what the long-term outlook is for the life of these screens anyways. Does anyone know the mean-time-before-failure for them?
I would also try using black backgrounds or dark themes on as many apps as possible also. Like tapatalk or k9 for instance.

I think there are some references how long the pixels "live". You should google. Even though Samsung said that they used new materials to build the displays.
I can tell you one thing you get used to the inferior screen in time.(Few rants not and then) So I wouldn't worry about that. If it really fails you. Meaning someone else will notice something wrong on the screen no just you. Claim warranty
Also to pointing out. There is shor-term memory effect as well. I think I already posted some bad quality pics here about that from my SGS. > http://goo.gl/URYzm I do not remember if this is a burn it or just the memory effect. I think its the memory bla bla. Second pic is best.

I'm mostly worried about the screen quality as I plan on doing a lot of sketching on it, which kind of sucks because it'll most likely be using a light-colored background then. :\ I wonder if the AT&T version will have the exact same screens or if they'll be a slightly updated version. I guess not considering AMOLED is still AMOLED.

You worry too much. And you do not even have that phone yet.
First of all not sure how its in your country, but here you can return in if you dont like it in a week I think.
Also if it becomes really apparent you really can go to a service center. I do not remember someone saying that samsung refused to change the screen.
Also I was ranting here already a year ago about the Galaxy S. I hate SAMOLED soo much since I got the SGS (18 months ago). I own an iPhone 4 and love retina and SLCD. And yet bought the Galaxy Note as well (despite the fact I knew how faulty it will be and how I will hate it )

I'm in the US and am debating ordering through Expansys (USA), and I've heard they have I believe it was a 2 year warranty, but I have a feeling I'd have to send it to Expansys and have them take care of it if something went wrong. I can't see Samsung handling an international phone's repair in the US?
Aren't we strange with how we buy our gadgets? We know we will hate something and yet still buy it.

All oled displays suffer from amoled burn out. Not much you can do.

Here you can see my homescreen. There is already white text on black background.
But I can see the shadows of the big clock and all icons. The shadows are the white parts of the homescreen; for example the "S" of my S-Banking-App is very visible as a black shadow in all other apps with lighter background (Internet-Browser, ebook-Reader etc..).
And the homescreen is visible only for a few minutes, because when I want to use an app I directly start the app. I don't look so much time to the homescreen and my Galaxy Note goes after one minute in standby mode.
That means only 10 minutes/day homescreen with 100% brightness is enough to damage the screen visible after 10 weeks?
Okay, playing Jelly Defense 2 hours a day at 100% brightness is not so good, but the problem is not the time, because a few minutes looking to the homescreen has nearly the same aging effect.
I just got a new Galaxy S4 a few days ago, and I noticed there are faint vertical and horizontal streaks on the screen that don't go away. It's not that bad unless you pay attention to it, but a normal screen still shouldn't do that.
Anyway, I went to a Verizon store to exchange it, and at first the managers insisted they couldn't see anything, but there was a lot of lighting so one of them went into a dark closet (lol) and he did see it on a grey background. But he compared it to two other S4's on display and they also exhibited similar streaks, but to a lesser degree, so he refused to exchange mine and said it was just a feature of the S4's screen.
To be fair, those S4s had a similar problem to mine, but doesn't that just mean all 3 phones are defective? Expecting a screen to have no kind of burn-in, streaks, or any other unintentional artifacts on it doesn't seem all that picky to me, and its pretty disappointing this issue seems so widespread on the S4. I suppose I could just live with it, but my concern is that if it's doing this 4 days in it'll only get worse over time. But since they refused to exchange it, what are my other options now? And does anyone else's phone have this same problem?
Trynto contact a Verizon manager or higer up. Make as much email stink as you possibly can without being rude.
Simply put... you have to make the managers uncomfortable or get in touch with their boss.
If not throw the law at them with a consumer watch group.

My S4 has exactly the same issue.
This is in fact my third replacement, all 3 have had horizontal and vertical banding at low brightness.
the store I bought it from have also declined another replacement so I'm stuck with this one too.
It's not on for a flagship device that costs a lot of money!
Bought 2x LG G2, one T-Mobile, one AT&T, different panel color temperature/brightness
I bought 2 LG G2's over the past 2 days. The first one was an AT&T certified refurb D800, the second one was a "new but without box" (factory film still attached) T-Mobile D801. They were purchased from two different cell phone shops.
I inspected each phone carefully in store at the time of purchase. Both phones were in flawless conditions. Not a single scratch anywhere.
However, upon returning home with the second phone, and placing them side to side for comparison, I noticed that the two phones' panel look significantly different. To eliminate the brightness slider differences, I put both at 100% brightness. Made sure all power saver related features were disabled. The AT&T (D800) version looks cooler (blue) and brighter, while the T-Mobile (D800) looks warmer and dimmer. I then tried adjusting the brightness sliders on each phone, trying to see if it can match the other at any given level, the result was negative. Those were two different-looking panels, period.
So I'm confused at this point. Could it be that one of these phones had its panel replaced by a non-OEM part? I assume the only way to tell would be to find yet a 3rd, real brand new phone from an official store for comparison?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
You could always go to an official at&t or t-mobile store check to see if they have it on display and compare or ask if you can view one, anyways I have the at&t one and I can agree that it is really bright, I have also already broken the screen and replaced it myself and did not notice any differences compared to original

Both phones are running the their stock JB rom. Haven't got to rooting/flashing yet. Can the AT&T and T-Mobile ROMs have different color temperature settings?
Well like I said I own the at&t variant so wouldn't really know I have not played with the T-Mobile one in person

Some time ago I bought 2 SGS+ from same shop/carrier. Both have similar s/n. Both have diffrent panel colors - same as you wrote, one is cooler (blueish) and other is warmer (dimmer). its normal, you dont have 100% that panels will be the same I had to decide which version is mine and which my wife and from then I didn't put them side-to-side and didnt saw difference
Thanks. That makes me feel better. But isn't the screen a major part of a phone that defines its characteristics/specs? I mean we see reviews about a phone's screen color etc all day, if it can vary this much phone to phone, makes me wonder what's the point of those reviews.
By the way, is there really such a thing as bad quality/fake/cheap replacement panels for a phone like the G2?

it's called panel lottery and all devices with the main component being screen suffer from it, especially tablets. too many things factor in this from quality control to bad factory calibration but the point is, exchange until you're fully satisfied with how the screen looks to you. my t-mo d801 has absolutely perfect whites and brightness, with a perfectly even screen.

I have the AT&T G2 and the screen is bright and does have a blue tint. I did not notice this until I bought a Nexus 5 and had them side by side. For me I prefer the bright but cool LG panel over the warmer but dimmer N5 panel. After playing for with the N5 for a week I returned it
I'm contemplating returning the G3 but need to ask everyone who owns the model if your units suffer the same issue or if this is just an LCD issue in general. I'm comparing on white backgrounds this noise/textured pattern reminiscent to a digitizer somewhat that literally for me defeats the purpose of having a QHD screen since it's the only thing I notice. When looking at my S4 AMOLED there is no such issue, and I just checked out the HTC One M8 with its Super LCD 3 in store and it doesn't seem to have the issue. The Xperia Z2 does also have this effect as well. Can anyone comment on this, and tell me how does it not distract you if it is there since for me it is a deal breaker!

I just realized this. I don't think a replacement will help. Seems like a panel problem. Until LG acknowledges this and ships out a fresh batch, I think I'll hold off on a replacement.

I've seen this on every G3 so far that I've looked at. It's not the digitizer because you'd see that when the screen was off.
My AT&T variant doesn't have any visible digitizer pattern

Its very hard to see. It can be seen on a white or light grey background. It almost looks like pixelation. Hard to explain.

It's not a digitizer pattern, definitely has to do with the lcd. Just reminded me of a weak digitizer annoyance. You have to look for it though but once you notice it you'll never unsee it

Seems like a vague statement. With the incredibly powerful cameras and even microscopes that can be done to really see these screens in detail, where is a picture of this 'visible screen texture'?
I can put the display all the way up against my face and can not see any texture you speak of. Please help to explain or at least show what you're talking about

OK do you have your G3 rooted? Probably you've got G3 with JDI panel, why don't you try to find it out and vote in that thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/g3-display-manufacturer-t2824310 ? Sony has also such patterns because they also use their own JDI panels.

I have this problem as well. I actually thought it was a real problem and went to get a replacement about 4 times. After the fourth one, I gave up after noticing that a lot of the G3s have it. I looked at a lot of display models (best buy and att stores) and looked at a lot of G2s as well. At first I was really annoyed by it, but now I've gotten used to it
I can see it on mine in certain conditions, but most of the time it's not visible. Same with any other device I've had, really.
I think I see what you're talking about, I just don't know how to explain it. I can only see it on a bright white area, and I'm guessing it's a result with the panel and how high the resolution is. I don't mind seeing it though... I don't see it as a defect since others are reporting it. MUCH less of an issue (if one at all) compared to a yellow screen area or something. Comparing this display to 1080s which never did this isn't fair. The technology is too new and doesn't have anything to compare to.
Not everyone can be expected to see it or notice it, especially since near sightedness is going to vary amongst people. Uncorrected, I can see extreme detail on objects within a 1-2 feet, but I can't see any details past 20 (signs are unreadable, etc). When I am using corrected vision though, my near vision gets slightly worse and the effect is less pronounced.

Yep, I noticed this as well. However, it is mostly only visible when the screens shows only a single color. E.g., it's really visible if you use an app like Dead Pixel Test. Under normal conditions, I've only seen it a few times, which is fine with me. The real problem still is the oversharpening.
I have seen maybe about 30 different G3s now, all of them have it but with varying levels of visibility.
It's one of those issuses there is probobly no point worrying about. All G3's probobly have it, nothing we can do about it (at the minute). If it bothers certain people that much, get a different phone

Done and done! Switched to the M8 and the super LCD screen is fantastic, Crystal clear. Love the G3 and I'll miss it but once I noticed that issue it was basically game over for me.

I agree with others that it's only apparent in unique moments, typically where black text is on a light background. After a bit of thought, I've decided that certain apps are not able to display the high resolution that the G3 can produce...so dithering artifacting occurs.
Its not an issue. I have seen it on every single lg g3 and its only visible on high brightness with a white background. And it seems like some models show it more than others, but most are acceptable.

Read it Carefully: Truth is Oneplus 8 Pro Display issue is pretty solid. And there is literally nothing they can do to fix that issue via software as that is the Hardware problem.

NB: Oneplus is trying to hide the display issue via software update by reducing the capability of dimming the brightness at low level I mean you can't lower the brightness like other phones or like the previouds unit of OP8 Pro where you could previously see those issue clearly. See that video by SuperSaf for better understanding. That's why people who got the device recently are not complaining about that but yet you can see those issue with replacement unit. And after zooming the video and photo you can clearly see a horizontal wide line through punch hole Camera. It is hardware issue literally as they could not master the Laser cut tech like Samsung. So, spend your money wisely!

I hope most people with an effected screen makes a fuss to OnePlus so it hurts them in their pockets. I hate when the consumer takes the hit when OnePlus should be addressing the problem and being honest. I am lucky I feel in my unit but if OnePlus doesn't act transparent, this will be my first and last product I purchased.
My first unit had this problem too. I really loved the phone but couldn't stand the tint so I got a replacement unit. My replacement unit at first had the same problem on greys, but I wasn't interested in shipping it back because I had to import my phone to Australia (no official Oneplus store). So I decided to get rid of the grey in the system ui by using a pitch black substratum theme, and I never saw the problem again, even on grey. I even went looking for it the other day and still couldn't see anything worse than what I see on my galaxy tab s6 also with an amoled display. Either recent updates fixed the issue, or I just got charmed by the otherwise gorgeous display. I am not too salty about it at all personally.
My screen is great, no issues.
No issues on mine.
In fact not had any of the issues ever mentioned about the 1+8pro
Apologies to the OP, but I have to join the chorus here. I got my 8 Pro on the second, "pre-launch", and one of the first things I did upon receiving it was inspect the screen for the noted problems. Couldn't find one flaw and the display itself is simply beautiful. Best Android on the market, at the moment, imo.

Got mine on launch and it's the best android phone I've ever owned.
I had mine pre-ordered and been using since day one. Not a single problem with the screen. In fact it's the best one I have ever had on a phone. Looks amazing. No issues here.
Got mine at launch. Tried all the tests I read here and had no problems. Beautiful display. The people that have problems are always the loudest. That doesn't mean it's everyone or even particularly widespread

Anyone having the black crush issue? I can see it when watching movies. Dark areas tend to go all black losing the detail. I can see more detail on my 3yr old samsung s8. Plus front cam looks softer than my s8 too. Any thoughts?

I think it's HW. I don't think there is a perfect panel either, I think people just aren't looking for it or testing for it.

Why is it hard to believe people actually have a great screen?
I have had my 8pro since release day and haven't noticed any issues, I use dark mode on everything, I have wallpapers of all colours including greys, now, if you tell me I haven't look hard enough, then that's your problem. I absolutely love my phone and the screen. Best I've ever owned.
The phone is not without faults, but comments like yours assume that everyone has experienced the same things as you... Could it be the light receptors in your eyes are faulty? Cos my 20/20 vision has yet to see any green tint, and crushed blacks on my handset.

How can OP release FW updates that affect every phone to try and fix the display, but your phone is fine? They even admitted it to Android Police. There's literally commits in the source altering the gamma levels!
