Hey guys, just got my note 3 few days ago.
The device is getting warm in the back after some light usage (browsing, some casual games, etc). no heavy gaming.
I wouldn't say hot, but its noticeably warm when you hold it. Specially in the camera area.
Is it normal? anyone else have this issue?
Yes it is normal.

Happens with most phones when you start to use a lot of apps, might not seem like much to the user but it definitely puts some stress on the cpu which is near the top of the phone

Thanks for the answer.
Just wondering if anyone else have the same issue.
Its quite annoying really,
I had some experience with note 2 and it didn't have any heat issue at all.

note 2 was very cool, note 3 is like note 1, heat as fcuk when you use the processor at full speed
Well, we are talking about a 2.3Ghz Quadcore. (Or a 1.9+1.3Ghz Octa). Run a CPU like that on a laptop and they'd have to stick a large fan and heatsink on top of it just to keep it cool.
On your phone it only has plastic (which is a terrible heatsink), no cooling gel, no air flow and no fan. Of course power like that is going to cause the phone to get hot.
Not to mention if you're holding it, what little heat the plastic dispenses is going to bottle up at your hands.
My n900 exynos (fake) octa doesn't get hot as my friend's 4g n9005 gets. I think it's because it has a bit slower clock speed. I noticed some warm in initial setup, when my google account was transferring back all data and apps at same time, and occasionally while playing Real Racing 3 at maximum graphics setup via RR3 Graphics app.

Mine was warm when i get it at first..warm coming from my kingston micro sd card..until the sd card can not be use anymore..i thing its already damage the sd card..then i change it to samsung micro sd card..no more heat coming from it..you better check your sd card..it might not compatible n better make backup first..

Is it just me or when you play the phone gets ridiculously hot??
Try playing avatar...download it from the game center...after 5 minutes of playing, apart the battery going flat in seconds, the display becomes so hot it almost burns!! The battery temp was 42°!!!
Anyone noticed the same?

Anybody has notice it?

Think 42c is ok, it does get quite hot but the phone will have its own threshold to don't worry bout it. Top left is where cpu/gpu is.
yes the phone do heat up when i try to torture the CPU, especially near the rear camera, but I still find the temperature level acceptable
Watching videos long period of time over wifi makes the screen almost untouchable.! Ditto the hottnes to from the rear of phone by camera.!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
for me display is not main concern, the area around the camera is getting too hot to touch lol. And it wasn't even a 3d game! It was the game cyberlords....
Although i can say not all games have this. I also played Baseball superstars 2011 for over an hour with no problems with heating.... very weird!
I have had the same issue, But only while it was in a case and charging...
Getting it out of the case helped enough, didn't become untouchable at any point
Sgt dutchy Try a Samsung official vented case there 7.95 on ebay
Mine also gets very hot around the camera and sim card area. I usually take my gel case and battery cover off and stick it in front of the a/c for a few mins. That brings its temperature down
Cpu's get awfully hot when running games..........

Got my SGS2 2 days ago... and played Avatar a lot. What exactly do you guys expect from a dual core 1.2ghz CPU squeezed in a 8.9mm case??? You either have NO IDEA about technic or your hobby is to complain.
Ok, it gets warm... but it's far away from being hot or even "untouchable".
Why don't you try to use SetCPU and set down CPU volt ? I think it may make the phone work cooler. :d
Before you guys are quick to jump, I thought this was some fluke as well, but I experienced this for the first time last night. Only had my browser running, was viewing a fairly graphics intensive site, and boom, I could barely hold my phone anymore.
Now, keep in mind, I've had the device since 5/4, and have done just about everything on the phone, including lots of gaming and web browsing. Not sure why it went hot potato this one time... could be the rogue process theory... but it got so hot that I could no longer hold the device. Just keep a lookout for this, especially if you have a cover on the device.

And judging from your signature you run the latest firmware (WKE2)?
I think downplaying the heating issues is not a good idea. The atrix doesn't heat up much while on 3G or playing 3d games. It seems while being great looking, the thinness of this phone is the Achilles heel. Maybe some people are okay with it being hot but samsung should not be allowed to get away with it while we are at it.
I also think there's some process making phones very hot as well. I noticed 2 months after jailbreaking my iPhone 4 that it got extremely hot to touch after using wifi for a couple min. Also some 3d games started to make it hot while they never did before. After a week of that I simply restored it to stock and the heating was gone..
I know it's a different phone and os but my point is the issue can be fixable probably. I would like this to be solved or else the sensation is looking better slowly.
this is disappointing, so we got a crappy camera and now the screen heating up to a point its unconfortable to touch it? :\ im having second thoughts now

Camera works great, no idea where you're getting crappy camera from. Plus, the negativity is completely unwarranted. This is still by far the BEST phone I've ever used and has exceeded all expectations... and mind you, my expectations were high.
But, that doesn't mean there aren't going to be bugs. With a dual core running at 1.2GHz + 1 GB of RAM, what you have is basically a complete computer system in your pocket. I remember back in the days, there were programs even on my PC that would cause the system fan to kick in and make the CPU go bonkers... it happens. I seriously believe this is a software bug... either with the rogue process issuing a device call that is causing that particular chip to overheat... or it's just a flaw with the current driver controlling the hardware. All things that I firmly believe will be fixed over time.
Good news is, I've been using this phone nonstop since I got it almost 2 weeks ago, and it's only happened once. I'm personally not too worried.
Hi guys,
I currently own a Galaxy Note N7000, but am planning an upgrade. To the Note 2. Yay!
My Note gets really hot when playing games like Arcane Legends, especially if I plug in the charger (of course). Some times, it gets so hot that the top side of the screen burns my thumb!!! And that even when playing Arcane Legends alone, not charging at the same time!
I wanna know. Are there people who have owned the original Note and switched to the Note 2? If yes... those are the people I want to talk to. They know best how to compare the two.
Never had the N7000 but I can tell you that the N7100 never gets that hot. A little warm yes, hot no.

I wouldn't say it gets too hot, but if you play the right games it can get toasty. Not too shabby though. Any mobile device these days can get up there in temps. It is the nature of the beast. Getting smaller and more robust and trying to keep the temperature down is all part of the challenge. I wonder how well the a15/mod'ed a9's will run in the next year or two. Eager to see how well Samsung's exynos CPU pairs together with imagination technologies GPU. Exciting times for the android gamers as they might see more games and many of those ported from iOS or more time put into them. I really would like science to take advantage of our smartphone gpu's much like distributed networking on PC's.

I'm not gonna sit around and wait another year. I'll get the Note 2, as soon as I sell this Note. My alternatives are... the HTC One, which I doubt will shine development-wise, the Xperia Z which has poor speaker performance and cr*ppy screen and the S4, which will also suck development-wise.
Yeah, definetly not gonna sit around to wait for the A15-powered devices.
I hate my Note right now for the following :
- poor battery performance (despite its 2500 mAh battery)
- screen sucks so bad (plus, black clipping)
- overheating like hell
At least the first two are better on the Note 2 . Enough for me to upgrade.

I am sure that the HTC One will get great dev development seeing as how that codeworx is getting the device, as for S4, it should also get great development as it is going to be a very popular device and most of the S4's are going to be Qualcomm not Exynos.

Oh yeah. At least the Qualcomm variant will definetly receive some love. Too bad Krait 300 is Cortex-A9, not Cortex-A15. But it's powerful enough. Way powerful than the cores in the Note 1, that's for sure.
*reconsidering options*
Won't have enough money for neither the One nor the S4. So, it's gonna be the Note 2. It's a powerful enough little tiny beast, anyway

Thank you for your input.
Battery life and power is exactly why I was considering the Note 2. Otherwise I could go for the S3, which has the same ammount of RAM (not really good for long term) and pretty much the same battery life as my Note. Not really worth paying 150 extra bucks for that... Better pay 200 extra bucks for a Note 2 :silly:
The screen is also an important factor for which I am considering the Note 2 over the S3. Screw pentile. RGB for the win!
Also, I know the Note 2 comes with a 2 amp charger. That's awesome! I will be able to play AND charge at the same time :silly:

Well, i had an n7100 which is on my mothers hands right now and i switched to the n7100.

Rest assured that you wont burn your thumb ever again with newer generation phones. Also, battery life on n7100 is brutal.

I did join the Note 2 club last week
I have to admit I was tempted to go for the cold metal beauty of the One, but delayed deliveries to Polish carriers took that option away. And wasn't that impressed by the Z. Not regret it much. That large screen is just beautifull. Who needs FullHD when it's already so sharp and amazing. Seems to be the perfect size too. Well, put it in a case and it gets too big for me. But having the extra screen estate over the lesser phones really is great!
Was initially put off by the horrible look of TouchWiz (have been using CM on my Galaxy S for a long time), but after customizing it a bit (inspired by coldfustion YouTube videos), I'm pretty happy with the results. I now mostly only see the ugliness of TouchWiz during calls and sometimes in the dialer (when it appears from a system call, rather then is brought up manually). Guess I'll proably eventually get rid of that too with a custom ROM, but I'm not in a hurry.
Coming from Galaxy S, I can really appreciate the GPS speed and accuracy. The volume of the loudspeaker is also very nice, even if clarity is nothing to write home about. Browsing and reading/writing e-mails is a real pleasure on this beast!
It does get a bit warm during gaming sessions, but it doesn't seem very hot and I hope its nothing that can cause an actual burn!
The smoothness is not that amazing too me though. I guess partially because I use MultiPicture Live Wallpaper and it always reloads the wallpaper during switching landscape/portrait mode. The default lockscreen was laggy as hell too (tried various fixes suggested here). But I turned that off and am now using the lockscreen from Go Launcher Ex, which is much faster (well, actually that and some icon packs are the only functionalities of that launcher I use... otherwise it's way too laggy, especially compared with Nova). But I'm sure the speed can easily be fixed with a custom ROM.
Just wish I could scale the keyboard down, cause it wastes too much screen estate (using Swype). And Multiwindow... the menus take way too much space... it should scale the content down as well, because as things are, very little actual content is displayed in each window.
^ A little off topic, but just wanted to say that all your wishes can be fulfilled with a rooted stock rom and simplistic and or xposed frameworks, including theming and dpi change, when you're ready for it

Hey there guys,
I'm from the UK and have a 3 (Three) variant of the LG G2 16GB. While the phone is mostly really fast and speedy, I have really sensative eyes that can detect a bit of lag. Now while this may not really bother many people, it sometimes bothers me as the phone is a 2.3ghz phone. I mean c'mon. I don't get the feeling the CPU clocks itself higher when i'm actually using it to do something.
I.E. Watching HD video on youtube. It runs buttery smooth every 10s or so and then "pop" a little lag occurs (btw it's not buffering, the video is like fully loaded). I don't want that to happen, it just ruins the viewing experience. This also happens in some games (i am aware that games load n stuff during gameplay sometimes) but i've been playing Vector on the highest settings; I came onto this level where there are now 3 characters (2 A.I and me) on the screen. The fps drops and then smoothes out then drops again. This is very weird! Why?!
Please someone help me get this really annoying lag outta ma brand new phone! It would be MUCH APPRECIATED!! <3 (lol)
P.S ( I have read a thread by Stefan063 and he stated
If you are experiencing some of annoying LAG on your G2,here is how to get LAG away (works with my G2) :
1. Type 3845#*802#
2. Scrol down to High Temperature Property OFF,and select
3. Turn it ON...
4. Turn G2 fully off...
5. Wait at least 10sec...
6. Turn it back on and wait about 30sec. when Screen Lock shows...
LAG-FREE G2
I don't know if this'll work for my phone. I have the LG-D802 version
Moreover, I have noticed a couple of days back a very small (quite unnoticable at first) black line on my screen. It's not a scratch, and is behind the glass screen; I think that the pixels or whatever in the that part of the screen have COMPLETELY shutdown. Like, it's gone! Completely black, i'll try and get a screen shot of it. I think I should go back to Three and get a replacement.
Why does the phone also ridiculously overheat when playing games? I get 40 degrees C while gaming according to CPU Z. Can anyone confirm this?
Thank you
Ok, from the top, i think. The YouTube lag has been reported by a few people, but most say that it does not affect them, so I am not sure what the cause is. I play games regularly including Madden 25, Shadowgun Deadzone, and Riptide GP. Even at length, 1+hr straight, I do not get lag or heat build up.
I run my phone in a case. The Ballistic SG case, which I am sure is not good on ventilation. The highest temperature I have gotten gaming with that case on is 98.2F. The highest I have gotten with the case off, when I use my Moga Pro is 93F. I have definitely never had the phone get above 100F and I am fairly certain that the 100F mark is a major point of throttling. If your phone overheats abnormally, this could cause the lag you describe. By the way, I too use CPU-Z for temperature readings.
Also, I believe those instructions turn off thermal throttling, which may make the phone smoother, but since yours may be overheating already, is definitely not advised.
And in the case of your screen, I would definitely get a replacement as that is not normal.
Hope this helps somewhat!!
Hmm....this is very weird indeed. This must mean there's something wrong with my G2. I spoke to LG and they said that the phone should operate between 0c and 40c which is above 100F. And this lag bothers me because this phone is not cheap and is ment to be top of the line.
Might I ask what model and variant of the G2 you are using?
This has helped a lot. Thank you very much. I will go to my carrier ASAP.

Sad but true! EVERY android phone lags! EVERY ONE OF THEM! Who says otherwise is simply a liar or a blind!
I have not owned but android devices from HTC, Samsung, LG, Nexus etc.. and they all lag to a certain level! Of course Nexuses are the smoothest but still stutter sometimes! It's inherited in Android OS!
Life Engineer, you maybe right. But it's just very weird. I just ask why to these big ass companies, can't you refine your damn devices!
Anyone know if Stefan's trick will work for my phone? I am due to return it tomorrow to my network-carrier but if they don't give me a replacement or help me out, I will try out this trick.

Unfortunately you are right! It's so frustrating to see my friend's iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s smoother then my quad-core beast or my other friends' octacore's beast!
But despite all that I can never imagine myself with an iPhone! I dunno why!
Maybe when they make quadcores with 2GB RAM and real multitasking and 5"+ screens with some logical prices I might!
I hope that this can become some kind of reference for potential buyers, and I don't care how it stacks up to the nexus family. I know it's fast, i know the gpu is 72 cores, I know the front camera sucks, I know it's 1280x800, and I know that it has a stylus. I just have a few questions.
DOES IT GET HOT? - I have had an atrix 4g and an optimus 4x HD (tegra 2 and 3 respectively) and I need to know, from a USER, will I get overheat followed by godawful thermal throttling if I play, let's say, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite or N.O.V.A. 3 for 45 minutes plus? 2 hours? And how hot DOES it get? The 4x hd would reach 65 to 70 degrees (cpu) and as much as 56 degrees (battery). To the point where touching the back of the device instilled a feeling of alarm. This is my biggest point of hesitation on the note 7.
THE RAM - I know the ram has insane speed. (1600 ddr3l) Even so, it's still only 1gb. I will often Skype or hangouts while playing my games, maybe even swap back and forth between a couple browsers and craigslist, still during the games and Skype. That all happens on just 2 gigs of 440mhz ram on my note 2. Will this be possible on my evga note 7? Or will I have to adjust my multitasking?
I/O (storage speed) - Friend's generic Chinese quad core tablet (irrelevant model) gets awful storage speed, which will bottleneck his relatively nice quad core CPU when he runs intense emus, like Drastic DS or ppsspp. Emulators like this, as well as games that take up extra large amounts of internal storage like Modern Combat 4, are pretty much all I play. Do I have anything to worry about? Will this be a point of disappointment for the tn7?
Thank you all for your patience for a new and nooby user..
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
As you can see from the screenshot the I/O is just a bit faster then your note 2. I'm not sure about it getting crazy hot and start throttling because I don't play those kind of games. If your worried about heat you can set it into power save mode which will limit the fps to 30 and use only 2 cores which can reduce heat and keep decent performance. The multi tasking seems pretty decent and I've been able to switch between chrome and YouTube pretty easily, except sometimes Google search gets killed and I'll have to wait for the launcher to come back up. If your worried about ram you could try a swapper app to give it some virtual ram to use which can help.

Thank you, I'm relieved that they didn't put cheapo nand in this thing, and low power sounds promising. I'll have to look into bench performance on that. Still need someone to tell me about heat when running all 4 cores, though.

It doesn't get hot! I too was scared of this. As for the RAM, multitasking is amazingly quick. But it does fill up pretty quick but I haven't ever experienced lags when it fills up a lot.

Oh god thanks man! Ordering tomorrow. Do you get that terrible "creaking" when you press anywhere? Or was that just in the earliest models?

I've had mine a week tomorrow, upgraded from 2012 Nexus and would say it was more solid than the nexus. No complaints here

It does get hot man on the bottom left of the back (while you look at it) but nothing really too bad. There's no creaking on the screen when you press but it does creak a little its not the best build in the world. But nothing that will make you feel like it wasn't worth the purchase. Am on my second advent one first one was dropped by my two year olds and the speaker bust on one side. Apart from that nothing else to say =)

Max temperatures????
The max temperature that the device needs to hit is 102°c for it to automatically shutdown, contains alot of thermal throttling for safety, nvidia know what they are doing this device can definitely accept good heat
Dear God, I'd definitely fly into an panic if it got that hot. 73'c on the 4x HD was close to a smidge painful. My PC doesn't even get that hot. Mobile processors ftw

I'm due to get an S5 on the UK release date next Friday. One of the issues with the Snapdragon 600 powered S4 is overheating. I can barely do anything with my current S4 without it ending up uncomfortable to hold in a matter of minutes, especially 3D games like Minecraft. Even underclocking and undervolting doesn't appear to make a difference.
Can anyone confirm the Snapdragon 801 on the S5 improves on this?
i'd like to know as well. my GS4 got pretty damn hot up near the camera and ear piece...would get hot doing random stuff that wasn't even games (i don't game on phones) and using the camera.
Did the S4 really get that hot?. After like 20 minutes of web browsing on my Xperia Z, the back becomes almost too hot to touch.
I used my friend's S4 for like an hour, doing the stuff i usually do with my Z, and i found that it didn't even get warm :S

801 is cool right out of the box ( except for 1st run unfortunately as it updates quite a lot of shjt stuff)

So there are no issues with the phone heating with activities like game playing, browsing and movie playback etc?

Nope, not a big 1. Phone just warm, thats all. I will try an intense game 2mo then ill report How about doing Antutu like 10 times in a row ( same as playing 30 mins game ). Let see how it goes. Haha. My fone will die before new S5 is delivered to your house due to heavy testing lol
By the way if the fone is hot, u can put it under the water tap to cool it down. I tested it ( seriously). It worked lol.

I think, this has been one of the main problems of the new smartphones that has been released nowadays.
