App/tweak that adds the steps for auto brightness? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I'm looking for that tweak that adds the small adjustments for auto brightness, so you can lower/raise the auto settings without losing the automatic part. Some Roms have it cooked in, but unfortunely the one I'm using does not!

I have never seen it in any MDL of MF3 rom. If you want that feature I would suggest installing a international rom. For some stupid reason Samsung doesn't use it in the US version of their phones.

Infact you can use it. Install the xposed framework and then Wanam Exposed. Among other things there's an option for it.

Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.velis.auto.brightness

Or maybe give this a go.

I use and like the pro version of it.
The app lets me choose a preferred brightness level for various night or day brightness.
Such as if I'm next to the dim lamp next to my bed, I tell Lux how bright (or dark) I want my phone and everytime my phone gets to that level of light, it will automatically adjust to my preferred backlight level.

Backlight problems, keeps changing settings.

With no other apps installed, useing bare rom and latest mox it up kernal.
Backlight seems to set it self to self to lowest setting, then toggle to a normal setting, very annoying.
Any one have a soultion for this, thanks.

Auto brightness on?

Also, you know about the Notification Bar swipe for brightness feature, right? ..just to make sure. I thought my brightness was all screwy the first few days I had the phone.. then figured out what the prob was.
If none of those, I had brightness issues (with autobright on) with the 10/17 mixedup kernel. I'm pretty sure GeniusDog's new version addressed these sensor issues, but haven't tested it out yet.
Auto brightnss on, on the lastest kernal released today.

Brightness in the dark

I have turned off auto adjust from the main notification menu and I have my phone set to standard on the display settings and my phone still dims when their is a lot of white on the screen, when I load google chrome and in games (emulators). Has anybody had the same issues? I've seen also, but I'm not sure, that the processor still run at 1,458 Ghz, not at 1,89.

There's still a setting you need to turn off in the display options, it's just above the high sensitivity checkbox that let's you use the phone with gloves (I don't remember how it's named in English but it basically means auto tone).

It's the "auto-brigthness" and it's uncheck. Perhaps it's a problem of my rom. I'm on stock rom, just root. Or the solution may be to change Kernel. Those who have custom rom/Kernel, have you this "problem"?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Is under display settings , something with "tone"

I don't think it's a problem with options. Many users have this problem. I've try many and many options but still have bad results. But you, have you also this problem or not? If yes, changing Kernel must be the solution or not?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I think this happens if you've enabled Adapt Display in display settings. Try switching it off.
Has anyone got a solution to this, I have had this phone 2 days and the screen jumps up and down in brightness and I am sure I have turned off all the auto settings.
One minute the whites are nice and bright next they turn grey or cream then back to bright white.

Many custom roms allow you to customise the auto brightness, but I prefer to use lux auto brightness app - it is brighter by default. I'm not sure about the HTC one, but using one of those two solutions (and colour calibration if necessary using a custom kernel) it will improve

I strongly recommand you to actually upgrade to full version of lux.
The auto profile is amazing, during night time it automatically dim out more than the day profile. Best 4 bucks I've ever spent on play store
I will definitely buy the full. For now I will run it as much as possible. I'm having good battery life and this app seems no effect on it.

[Q] Auto-Brightness Confusion

Can someone please explain how the auto-brightness works on this phone it seems to act a lot weirder than my galaxy nexus did. What does it mean when it talks about setting the baseline brightness and in what context? Do you use it? If so what brightness do you have it set to?
This phone has the worst auto-brightness of any device I've used.
I need to read the manual. I'm assuming the baseline is the minimum brightness, but it never seems to change when expected.
I chose to use a 3rd party app to manage it. Lux auto brightness works really well, and you can calibrate it any way you'd like.

I have mine set to 40% on auto. I found the best way to decide the minimum brightness was to set it at a comfortable level in a dark environment.
To test this, set up your minimum brightness, then point the screen (ambient light sensor) at a light source, keep your eye on the screen and it'll gradually brighten. I've found mine to work pretty well and rarely have to manually override it, but the change is a lot slower than my note 2.

Get lux lite from the play store. It works great

Comfortable in a dark room for me is about 5%, unfortunately even in the brightest of sun it seems like the phone never turns its brightness up at all when on auto like this. Anything less than 50% seems to break auto brightness for my device and that is just sad. Even when it works when set above 50%, it takes 5 seconds or so to adjust which is just terrible and the brightness seems to still act funny about how and when it decides to change. It really is the worst auto brightness ever.
Whoops!

Thanks for the recommendation guys that app seems to work sooooo much better than the stock auto brightness so far. The stock auto-brightness is garbage on this phone. Seems like the stock setting either doesn't get bright enough or doesn't get dark enough.
I don't agree, either I have a working phone or others are broke, but this is the best autobright performing phone I've every used, after the hd2, galaxy nexus, note 1 and note 2. Its perfect according to the ambient light situation and is really fast acting

I noticed this as well when I firstt got my G2. I use Lux for autobirghtness needs. There's also a lite/free verison available for you to try. hope this helps....
Stock is completly idiotic about this. You set the brightnes and then the auto setting will adjust just a couple % arround that value. Useless
