I noticed this as well when I firstt got my G2. I use Lux for autobirghtness needs. There's also a lite/free verison available for you to try. hope this helps....
Stock is completly idiotic about this. You set the brightnes and then the auto setting will adjust just a couple % arround that value. Useless

I debating on just leaving my screen brightness in high. When I had my hd2 it was always set to high and I really liked the way it looked with my background pics which is full of color.

i have mine set at 35 but im thinking of taking up to 50
I usually leave mine at about 75%-80%. When my battery gets low I scale it down to 50%
I have switchpro set to 30%-70%-100%, but its on 70% 99.9% of the time.
I leave mine at 100%

Mines on auto, it adjust when there is sun so I don't see the point on leaving it on high plus its a battery drainer.

I noticed that as well, even in the dark it is ultra bright. When I had a Cliq it let you set the brightness and it worked auto from there. Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the range brightness/dim that the auto uses?
I use auto because tge screen looks nice an it does save battery. I had my g1 in 10% because of battery life

I'm rooted running stock with no mods flashed and I'm not sure why but sometime over the past few days my brightness adjuster has disappeared from my notifications. I enjoyed having it there and if it's just a setting I've hit that's be awesome. Otherwise I might just flash a rom to fix it.

You can see if it is turned on.
Click on settings
My Device
Display
Notification Panel
Then click Brightness Adjustment
If it unchecked that is why you don't see it. Unfortunately I have no clue why it turns off if you are not doing it.

Thanks lol. I looked for a setting but evidently I didn't try hard enough.
No problem, Samsung had to move all the settings around in 4.2, making it harder for everyone

It disapears when your battery hits 5%
Comes back when you are at 6% or higher

please help *my brightness adjuster has disappeared,
I have it enabled in the settings
Yeah mine has disappeared too, this is the second time I reset my phone once and it came back now it has happened again. No one seems to know why...
Night Mode
If you have the app Night Mode. Turn it on (start) then turn it off (stop). The slider should appear again, as long as you have it checked in the settings.
I'm looking for that tweak that adds the small adjustments for auto brightness, so you can lower/raise the auto settings without losing the automatic part. Some Roms have it cooked in, but unfortunely the one I'm using does not!

I have never seen it in any MDL of MF3 rom. If you want that feature I would suggest installing a international rom. For some stupid reason Samsung doesn't use it in the US version of their phones.

Infact you can use it. Install the xposed framework and then Wanam Exposed. Among other things there's an option for it.

I use and like the pro version of it.
The app lets me choose a preferred brightness level for various night or day brightness.
Such as if I'm next to the dim lamp next to my bed, I tell Lux how bright (or dark) I want my phone and everytime my phone gets to that level of light, it will automatically adjust to my preferred backlight level.

Can someone please explain how the auto-brightness works on this phone it seems to act a lot weirder than my galaxy nexus did. What does it mean when it talks about setting the baseline brightness and in what context? Do you use it? If so what brightness do you have it set to?
This phone has the worst auto-brightness of any device I've used.
I need to read the manual. I'm assuming the baseline is the minimum brightness, but it never seems to change when expected.
I chose to use a 3rd party app to manage it. Lux auto brightness works really well, and you can calibrate it any way you'd like.

I have mine set to 40% on auto. I found the best way to decide the minimum brightness was to set it at a comfortable level in a dark environment.
To test this, set up your minimum brightness, then point the screen (ambient light sensor) at a light source, keep your eye on the screen and it'll gradually brighten. I've found mine to work pretty well and rarely have to manually override it, but the change is a lot slower than my note 2.

Get lux lite from the play store. It works great

Comfortable in a dark room for me is about 5%, unfortunately even in the brightest of sun it seems like the phone never turns its brightness up at all when on auto like this. Anything less than 50% seems to break auto brightness for my device and that is just sad. Even when it works when set above 50%, it takes 5 seconds or so to adjust which is just terrible and the brightness seems to still act funny about how and when it decides to change. It really is the worst auto brightness ever.
Whoops!

Thanks for the recommendation guys that app seems to work sooooo much better than the stock auto brightness so far. The stock auto-brightness is garbage on this phone. Seems like the stock setting either doesn't get bright enough or doesn't get dark enough.
I don't agree, either I have a working phone or others are broke, but this is the best autobright performing phone I've every used, after the hd2, galaxy nexus, note 1 and note 2. Its perfect according to the ambient light situation and is really fast acting

Is anybody have solution for it??
Can our developers @dhacker29 , @arrrghhh , @timpohladthomas , @Somber73 or anybody else fix it?
I can't believe that those problems annoys only me! ))
Maybe it has something to do with automatic brightness being on? Not exactly sure

I was going to ask a similar question.
Keep in mind, I do not actually own a xt907. I do not seem to have any sort of brightness issues on my xt897...

I was think about automatic brightness... But I have thee same issues without it...
I have this problems with brightness only on KK ROMs.. And all my friends, who use KK on XT907 have the same issues... :crying:
I also have this issue on KitKat ROMs. It not an auto brightness issue because it does it at all brightness settings even max.
Screen will light up dim at first and about 10-15 seconds after it will finally adjust to the level it's set it.

When I first used gravity box on 412 it had same bug. But now the updated gb no longer does it. Try installing gb? Then enable the brightness slider.
